The clouded leopard is the first cat that genetically diverged 9.32 to 4.47 million years ago from the common ancestor of the pantherine cats. Cousins like cougars

Jaguars

lions

tigers

snow leopards

and other leopards.

They live from the foothills of the Himalayas into southeast Asia and China. They are vulnerable, with probably fewer than 10,000 animals left in the wild, in fragmented populations. They are solitary, arboreal, and nocturnal, preferring dense forest habitat.
