And don’t forget about the Royals pitchers’ curse being broken. Sunday night, Ryan Yarbrough was hit in the face by a 106 mph line drive, and Monday night, Amir Garrett vomited on the field.

Not only am I still hoping to recover from the radio interview I did with him in 1979 in which HE PRETENDED TO BE SOMEBODY ELSE, but even in the birthday stories nobody mentioned that after establishing himself as a budding big league superstar Mays missed nearly two full seasons when he was drafted into the army — while all the young white players WEREN’T. That clearly cost him a shot at breaking Babe Ruth’s career Home Run record.
