Here’s the CBS segment to introduce them, and then I’ll add some videos from their own channel. Now I really want to go to their store, and their cafe! [7:30]

This short intro, from before the 2020 renaming, is a photo and video montage with captions but no speaking. [2:29]

This is a longer history with some interesting detail, told in part by the former owner, a descendant of one of the original 18th-century partners. [7:51]

Here, we learn about an organic farm that grows wheat, among other crops, from the young couple who are working toward becoming its owners. The farmer had no one in his next generation to take it over, and these former chefs happened to be the right people at the right time to step in and give that farm a future. [3:28]

Homeboy Industries is a Los Angeles program that accepts gang members and others formerly involved in crime, and offers them training, support, and job placement in commercial baking. King Arthur is a supporter of theirs, and made this video to spread the word. [6:21]

Bake for Good: In 2014, King Arthur invited a bunch of bloggers to gather there and learn to make breads and pies, with the stipulation that they pay it forward by serving a meal at a local homeless shelter. [2:08]

Then there’s Bake for Good: Kids, a traveling program that visits schools, teaches kids to bake, and helps them donate their homemade bread where it’s needed. [1:58]

This is the King Arthur video from Pride last year. They’ve assembled a very diverse group of employees and associates to meet us, and I really wish those who fear anyone different from themselves could all be sat down in front of this video to see that everyone’s just people. [6:21]

This video is from February 2021, and I can’t describe it better than the YT page:

To commemorate Black History Month, King Arthur commissioned a Black independent filmmaker named Kamari Bright to create a short film inspired by the intersection of baking and being Black.

[4:52]

It seemed like we should see some of their many videos that teach baking, while we’re here. We met Martin in the CBS video — here, he walks us through from square one to making the easiest possible loaf of bread. Written recipe here. [12:40]

If that is too tame for you, maybe you’ll like these lovely Roman cream-filled brioche buns. Written recipe here. [12:25]

I will close with the 2023 “Recipe of the Year”, which is apparently awarded at the beginning of the year. Not that I quarrel with their selection! It’s a cinnamon-crumb coffeecake with a ribbon of cocoa/cinnamon filling in the middle. Written recipe here.

Now I need to figure out what excuse I can make to myself to make this! [13:53]

Women of the World: Bread and Roses. [3:57]
