I figured it was time to make a tutorial for setting up a Daily Bucket diary. Many of these steps will seem automatic for seasoned diary writers, but, I hope these hints will make the process smoother.

Step 1 = When you start a new diary.

The title should include “The Daily Bucket” before your subject label.

Step 2 = Add your tags.

Type each of these two “tags” into the space provided. Hit the enter key to set the tags; include any others you may want that are pertinent to your article.

Step 3 = Say what you have to say.

Or both, with photos, links, music, etc.

Step 4 = Include our boilerplate information in your diary. A “cut and paste” method works best. Use my example as a template if you’d like.

The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns. We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.

Step 4 a = The process I use. Step 5 = Enter your article and content before or after the template above. I suggest saving your draft often. Step 6 = Now that you have your message intact, here’s how to get it into the queue for scheduling. This will be seen to the right of your draft. Step 7 = Choose the group appropriate for your article. Step 8 = Once selected, do not enter a scheduling date or time and do not hit the Publish key. Here is a similar screen you should see. Hurrah! You now have a diary in the queue of Back Yard Science. NOTE: A copy of this tutorial will remain in the Backyard Science queue for reference.

PART II will guide you through the scheduling process.
