Future Product Announcement: NetDOS, a Z-System SCSI LAN.
Do you have more than one Z-System? Wish your Z-Systems could share files
without swapping floppies or connecting RS-232 ports? ...then NetDOS is for
you! NetDOS will provide file sharing between any Z-System SCSI equipped
computers. Ampro host adapters may be used to provide a SCSI bus to an
existing Z-System. NetDOS will require NZCOM and knowledge of SCSI port
addresses, ... for the latest information, become a NetDOS Supporter.
NetDOS Requirements and Features:
OVERVIEW:
NetDOS is a network operating system that will allow Z-Systems
to share files, and perhaps in a future version to perform
multi-processing. Basically, a user's system will appear to be a
CP/M compatible OS, in particular a ZCPR3.4 CCP and a modified
ZRDOS. The network will be achieved thru the use of the SCSI
8-bit parallel bus, therfore all Z-Systems wishing to connect
must have a SCSI bus, in particular this is an arbitrating SCSI
with all computers capable of being both initiator and target.
Consult a SCSI reference for further information, Adaptec
controller card manuals are excellent. Since standard SCSI is
limited to 8 devices, initially NetDOS will be a cluster of 8
SCSI devices, probably 1 hard disk controller card and 7
computers. Ampro has defined an extension that allows additional
devices, and should the need arise an extnsion should be
possible. One computer needs to be designated as the mass
storage controller, commonly referred to as the file server.
This requirement is necessary to prevent file overwriting caused
by multiple disk allocation vectors existing on different
computers. All files controlled by the server are available to
the networked computers. All such global files are available
with read permission, even when opened by another user computer.
The first system to access a file also will have write
permisssion. Accessing global storage will 'appear' to be
indentical as accessing local storage to most programs,
exceptions are programs in the DU category which can only be run
from the file server itself.
REQUIREMENTS:
NZCOM - to load the various NetDOS segments, thus it's for
Z80 processors and equivalents.
SCSI - arbritrating, initiator and target. Note that the SCSI
length limitation of 6 meters is unimportant if you use
RS-232 terminals, as RS-232 cables can be run for very
long distances.
FEATURES:
Storage - local or global.
Devices - devices connected to the server can be global,
i.e. a printer or modem.
Welcome to X-Node (The Experimentors Node { XN }), Home of NetDOS.

NetDOS Supporters will be entitled to purchase any final product for $90,
otherwise the price will be $120. No refunds of Supporter funds will be made
if the project fails due to unforseen technical difficulties, i.e. a Supporter
is an invester in the project and assumes all usual risks. Supporters will
