2) Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the first, and as time may tell, only Sneak King FAQ on the
web.
Those of you looking for a Sneak King FAQ are likely playing on a 360,
and this FAQ is focused on getting A-Rank on all challenges so that you can
more quickly achieve all 200 points. If you are reading this and are playing on
an XBOX, please email me your reason. I honestly can't think of one myself.
I have written this FAQ not out of love for the game, but more to help
those of you out there who, like me, have trouble bringing themselves to leave
a game unfinished after starting it; particularly when achievement points may
be involved. In fact, I considered quitting quite a few times throughout the
guide when I accidentally got an A-rank on my first try and had to replay
multiple times to get a B-rank so I could record what the cut off was for A.
The motto of this FAQ is "I played more so you don't have to."
Some challenges in Sneak King are graded by time and others by points.
If you have played the game, then you may know that one of the most time
consuming problems is that you are not notified of the A-Rank requirements
until after you have completed the challenge; even then, only if you have
already achieved B-Rank. This leads to often having to play a challenge
multiple times, given that you were striving for the wrong goal. Or, you may
have surpassed the requirements without knowing it, and end up spending a lot
more time than necessary waiting in a hiding spot, or for hunger levels to
change.
I have not included walkthroughs of each individual challenge, as paths
are random and there are many ways to complete a challenge even if they
weren't. I have however provided some general tips that should help with all
challenges, and most helpful to finishing the game quickly will be the
challenge summaries.
Combining the basic simplicity of the game, my time saving techniques,
and the foreknowledge provided by the challenge summaries, you may very well
cut your Sneak King time in half by using this FAQ.
The controls are very simple, you will usually be pressing (A), and onscreen
cues are generally present as well.
Left Stick or Directional Pad -Move
L Stick Button -1st person mode. (You can't actually move in
1st person, so I am guessing this is just a
novelty, put in to let you see the world from
inside the mask. You can hear the King's
unsettlingly heavy breathing as well.)
A Button -Surprise/Flourish/Accept
B Button -Cancel
Y Button -Hide/Unhide/Special Action
Right Trigger -Sneak in free play mode (Useless) or
Run in Challenge Mode.
Right Stick -Move camera
R Stick Button -Change zoom level
Start -Pause
Tips-
*****
Be very careful to always select "Continue Game" on the starting menu. It is
not selected by default, and I highly doubt you wish to have your progress
overwritten.
I would not risk signing in to play under a different profile if you have
completed any significant amount. Just in case it clears out the old
information. I have tried it and it worked just fine, but with all the bugs in
this game, and having heard of this happening on other games, I would just
choose to err on the side of caution.
Camera-
I was surprised that reviews did not scream in frustration at the camera.
You will be fighting it throughout the whole game.
It is y-inverted, so pushing right rotates the viewpoint counterclockwise
around the King and vice-versa. It is quite a dizzying experience until you get
used to it, as it can move rather quickly as well. There is no way to change
this setting.
The zoom level is essentially useless. The three options are very much the
same. The default is perfectly acceptable throughout the game.
***************************************************
Pay attention here!! These tips will save you time:
***************************************************
After making a delivery, the camera almost always reverses. So, if you are
trying to complete a number of deliveries within a time limit, you can shave
seconds off your time by pushing the left stick in the opposite direction from
which you would like to move. While running you can correct the camera and
proceed.
You may find the mini-map useful during this time as well, as you will not
necessarily be able to see where you are going for a second or two.
Occasionally you will jump in a hiding spot and not be able to see the
civilian you are trying to feed. You can often push the camera up or down to
adjust your view, but sometimes not, and in any case, your prey may have moved
by then. Instead, use the mini-map to tell both where someone is, and what
hunger level they are at.
The mini-map is really useful throughout the rest of the game as well. It can
help you plan your attack, overcome the camera's shortcomings, and overall
improve your control of the game. Don't forget about it.
People are completely oblivious outside of their vision cones. You may walk
right on top of someone, but as some people make abrupt turns, it may be
better to stay back a bit.
On missions that require you to feed every person without anyone passing out
there will only be one person hungry at a time. This means that you can feel
free to go slowly and build up points when that is the goal.
*******************
Pointers on Points:
*******************
If you need a lot of points, the following tips may be helpful. Keep in mind
that time and situation may not always allow for their use, at least not
throughout an entire challenge.
-Flashing red is the hungriest person. This is hunger level 5. The rate of
flashing will increase before a person faints, but this does not raise your
bonus.
-Chain counts are obviously useful, and in levels that specify "any" number
of deliveries may be made, or a minimum number, feel free to do a few quick
ones to raise your multiplier. Sometimes this will be the only way to obtain
the A-rank point requirement. ("Big Surprise" achievement can also be obtained
this way.)
-Delivering from a hiding spot provides a huge bonus. Especially when
combined with the other bonuses. The game doesn't provide a hiding multiplier,
instead raising your base rate from 100 to 500 points. Looked at the other way
though, this is a 5x bonus. If you have to choose between waiting for a persons
hunger level to increase or jumping out at them from a hiding spot at a lower
level, definitely choose to jump out.
Hopefully you found this guide helpful; if you have any questions or
constructive comments, feel free to use the email I provided at the top. Of
course, please make sure you have read the whole guide before asking a
question. I would probably still respond, but it is more courteous and saves
us both time if you make sure that what you are asking is not already covered.
If I get a lot of requests for it, I may add walkthroughs for some of the
more difficult missions (cd15 is a toughie, but covered pretty well on xbox.com
forums) and good questions will likely be added into a Q+A section. Otherwise
this is the final version, and all you should really need.
My gamertag is UliUdo; give a shout out if you see me online. Mention the
guide if you send a friend request so I know who you are.
If you feel the time you saved using the guide was worth money, you can paypal
me at the same email above as well. All is appreciated, and maybe I'll even
make back my $4 ;-)
Honestly, it wasn't -that- bad for a $4 game.... And the achievements
were definitely legitimate; much more so than any EA game.
(That doesn't mean I'm not very, very happy to hang it up.)
these are the only sites I have given explicit permission to host and display
this guide.
first.
Otherwise, fair use to the readers out there, don't copy it and pass
it off as your own, but feel free to download/keep/print/modify, for your own
