Alright guys, this guide is totally about how to hunt a rathalos.
The strategies listed here may not be to your liking but are found
to be the most effective for any type of player. If you are an
experienced hunter who has killed many rathalos, then why are you
even looking at this? This guide is basically for beginners and
people who have trouble killing the rathalos.

| What is a Rathalos? |
=============================
So what exactly is a rathalos. Well according to this game the
rathalos is a large wyvern. Although most of you that have seen
the rathalos for the first time probably think " RUN AWAY FROM
THE GIANT DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!! ". That is the reaction that most
people have when they first see the Rathalos in the first Wyvern
Egg carrying quest. Since we are going by game standards, we must
refer to the rathalos as a wyvern, not a dragon.

| When can I start fighting a Rathalos? |

Alright well, you can start fighting a rathalos as early as the
lvl 1* elder quests in the " Raid the Wyvern's Nest " quest. But
most people just fight the rathalos in the missions were you
only need to kill the rathalos. You can kill the rathalos in the
list of missions below:

Alright well the basic strategy on finding out what a wyvern is
weak to is by testing different elements on the wyvern right?
WRONG! The easiest way to find out what a wyvern is weak to is by
looking at the wyvern's armour. Any resistant stat that is in the
negative zone is the wyvern's weakness. Rathalos armour has -1
water resistance and -4 dragon resistance. Seeing this shows that
rathalos is weak to water and dragon. Knowing this, pick the
weapon that seems right to fight him with. Mabye a weapon with
dragon or water attribute.

- Rathalos is a wyvern
- he has a few different forms
- the weakest part of his body is his head
- his claws, head crown and tail can be broken
- he is weak to water and dragon
- he can poison you
- he likes to run away
- he likes zone 9 in FnH..don't fight him there due to camera
angles
- when you cut off his tail, you get to carve it
- carving the tail is the only known way to get rathalos plates

Equipment & recommended items:
- Armour of choice
- Weapon preferably with dragon or water attribute
- flashbombs
- pitfall trap
- 2 trap tools
- any number of nets [ ivy + spiderweb = net ]
- 2 large barrel bombs
- 1 small barrel bomb
- 10 potions
- 10 herbs
- 10 antidote
- Combination books [ so you don't fail making traps ]
The Fight:
Grab your stuff out of the blue chest, eat 2 rations then exit
the camp. Hunt down the rathalos. The zones he goes in are:
zone 3
zone 4
zone 5
zone 6
zone 9
zone 10
When you find the rathalos, paintball him unless you have the
auto-tracker skill then you don't need to look for him and paint
him. If the rathalos is in zone 9, leave the zone after you paint
him and wait in zone 3. Waiting in Zone 3 gives you easy access
to all the zones that he might go to. When he is in one of your
preffered zones, dodge his attacks until he does one of his
charge attacks. When he charges at you, get out of the way and
set a pitfall trap. By the time the rathalos gets back up, the
trap will be set. Stand on the opposite side of the trap from
the rathalos and wait until he charges into it. When the rathalos
falls in the trap, set 2 large barrel bombs down then put out
your small barrel bomb and run. When the explosion is finished,
run in and get as many attacks as you can on the rathalos before
he gets out. When the rathalos gets out of the trap, put away
your weapon and dodge his attacks while you combine a net
with a trap tool to make another pitfall trap. Use the same
strategy to trap the rathalos again except this time, just attack
him with your weapon because you are out of bombs. Once all three
of your pitfall traps are used up he should be pretty beaten
down. Remember to heal when needed. Since all of your traps are
gone, dodge his attacks and run in and get in a few hits before
rolling out. You can also start to use your flash bombs if you
feel that they are needed. Throwing a flash bomb in front of his
face will basically stun him and allow you to get in alot of
hits. Breaking off his head crown, wing claws and tail
will do damage to him. Once the rathalos is limping, he is almost
dead. Follow him around to zones and just keep on going in,
getting a few hits and rolling out. Eventually he should die
and you can get your three carves. Just a warning though, when
the rathalos is in zone 9 and zone 5 he can heal. Zone 9 doesn't
heal much though so it isn't really a big deal if you have a
good weapon attribute.

Equipment and recommended items:
- armour of choice

- flute
- pitfall trap
- 2 trap tools
- any number of nets [ ivy + spiderweb = net ]
- 2 large barrel bombs
- 1 small barrel bomb
- 1 cool drink [ blue box supplies you with 2 ]
- 10 potions
- 10 herbs
- 10 antidotes
- combination books [ so you don't fail making traps ]
The Fight:
Grab your stuff out of the blue chest, eat 2 rations and
1 cool drink [ remember to re-drink one every time you
get the message that your cool drink wore off ] then exit
the camp. Hunt down the rathalos. The zones he goes in are:
zone 2
zone 3
zone 6
zone 7
Once out of camp, head to zone 3 and kill all the bullfango.
Wait here for the rathalos as this zone has a few things to
help you kill the rathalos. Once the rathalos is in this
zone, paintball him and start to dodge his attacks. Alright,
do you see those white rocks all around the area? those
are explosive and act like barrel bombs, except they are
triggered when the rathalos hits them. So get on the other
side of a rock from the rathalos and have him charge into
them. When all of the rocks in this zone are gone, go to
zone 2 and wait for him there. Have him charge into all the
rocks there as well. Once all the rocks are gone, now is
the time to start using your pitfall traps. Basically the
strategy from here on in is the same as the forest and
hills were you get the rathalos in the pitfalls, barrel
bomb him the first time then just attack him the other 2
times. Then going in, getting a few hits then rolling out.
Theres only one catch to this plan. When the rathalos goes
to zone 7, he's going there to sleep. The only thing is,
you can't reach him while he's sleeping. The rathalos
sleeps on a rock island that is surrounded by lava.
To wake him up and get him off his island, you can
either throw the throwing knives givin to you in the
blue box at him or use your flute. When he wakes up, he
will charge off his island and you can continue to fight
him. Eventually the rathalos will die and you can get
your 3 carves.
