I always like to start off a peice of writing with an introduction so here it
is. This guide is a Battle/combat guide for Lord of the Rings: ROTK. I am
known as casanova973 here at GameFAQs, but my real name is Dominic Smyth.
I watched the Return of the King film, and I thought "man, this would make a
really great game...", and boy was I right. This game is brilliant! I have
long wanted to write a walkthrough for it but I just can't find the time, so I
will write quite a few in-depth guides for it, this being one of them. This is
a battle/combat guide. I will give you lots of tips for when you're in the
battlefield, I will give you the best strategy to beat bosses, and I will
just basically explain the basics of the game.
I hope you enjoy reading this guide as I will enjoy writing it! On with the
guide!

Version 1.00 - 30/07/04 - This is the very first version of my guide. It has
the main part of the guide in it, but I have this feeling that I missed out
quite a lot, so I'm waiting for Emails to put in my guide.
Version 1.10 - 09/09/04 - Complete spellcheck throughout the whole guide. I
added some more to the missile section and changed a few more things in the
guide. If I feel that I've got something wrong, or I've missed something out,
I will try and add it to the guide as soon as possible.
Version 1.15 - 13/09/04 - Changed the ASCII art at the top of the guide so it
actually looks a bit like the logo. Try comparing it to
www.
http://www.salespromo.com/ROTK_StackdLogo.jpg to see how I've done. If you
want this ASCII you have to ask me because it took me AGES to write that up.
Other than the artwork, no more updates.

3I: Controls
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speed attack = X button (X) - Use speed attacks to defeat unshielded enemies.
It is useless against shielded enemies.
Fierce attack = Triangle button (T) - Very effective on shielded enemies. It
usually defeats an enemy in three hits.
Parry (block) = Square button (S) - Use the parry button to protect yourself
from arrows. You can block any enemy attack except for Trolls.
Kick = Circle button (O) - Use the kick button to kick down enemies. It's not
very helpful, only when you are kicking down ladders. When you purchase a
combo with Circle in it, your character will glow in purple and charge
forwards.
Action Command = (R1) button - Use the action command button when you see an
object with a purple ring around it. Your character will do a cool action.
Killing Move = (R2) button - The killing move kills any enemy knocked down but
it is not dead.
Special Move = (L1+R1+L2+R2) - Each character has their own special move.
Gandalf is protected by a magic shield, Sam and Frodo go invisible and Aragon,
Legolas and Gimli glow in red and it allows you to reach perfect mode quicker.
Ranged Attacks (L1+X) button(s) - Every character has a different ranged
attack. Aragon and Legolas shoot arrows, Gimli throws his axes, Gandalf shoots
laser projectiles and Sam and Frodo throw knifes.
Dodge (Jump back) = (L2) button - If there are enemies charging at you, press
the L2 button to jump back five yards. It will give you more time and space.
~~~~~~~~~~~
3II: Tips
~~~~~~~~~~~
- When you see a crowd of shielded enemies, block their first attack, then use
fierce attack to break their shields. Now you can just use speed attacks to
kill them.
- Trolls do have a weak point and it is war pikes. Around levels, you will
find some war pikes (spears), press and hold R1 to aim your war pike, and
release R1 to fire.
- Your characters special ability always helps you in battles. It will get you
into perfect mode quicker so it will be easier to kill enemies.
- When you are aiming your ranged attacks and war pikes, the enemy that you
are aiming at will be highlighted in green.
- When purchasing your upgrades, always get fellowship upgrades if you can. It
will help other characters who you are using for the first time.
- After you have completed a level, you can replay it straight away if you
want. When you are purchasing your upgrades, go left and select replay.
- Only refill your ammo (for ranged attacks) when you have about 10 missiles
left. The reason you should do this is because when you collect a bundle of
missiles, you get 20. You can only carry 30 missiles, and the items are quite
rare, so only get them when you really need them.
- Do not panic when you have little amount of life, just play as you would do
normally but parry a bit more and be aware of your surroundings. You should
also notice that more health jars will appear when you have less life so #
that's another reason not to panic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3III: Experience Metre
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This section will explain the experience metre. it is still not clear to some
of you so hopefully this section will clear it up.
The experience metre is the memory card that holds how many points you have.
You can only get four types of xp points (fair, good, excellent and perfect).
The experience metre itself is the cirlce thing in the left-bottom corner of
the screen. Sometimes you will notice it changes colour when you are killing
a lot of enemies, and it is blank when you are far from killing any enemies.
You need Experience points (xp points) to buy upgrades. You really need
upgrades to complete the game because some levels are impossible without basic
attacks such as Ork Hewer and final Judgement.
You want to know how to get points? Kill enemies quickly using moves you
purchase through upgrades. If you just kill an orc using speed attacks, you
will most likely to get a rating of fair. Say if you use a basic move you
might get a rating of good. But say if you were surrounded by big enemies like
Easterlings or Uruk-hai, killing them with fierce and speed attacks won't only
take you ages but you won't get much points. If you use a more advanced or
even just basic moves you are more likely to get an excellent or even a
perfect!
Perfect mode, man it's cool when you're in the zone. All you need to do is
find yourself a nice big group of enemies, or even two or three and try a Bane
or anything else and check your xp metre. When your metre is less than a
quarter full, you will get a rating of fair. Between quarter and half is a
good, between half and three-quarters is and excellent, when it is full you
are in perfect mode.
When the metre is full and you are in perfect mode, your character glows in a
white coloured smoke. Not only that, but your character is quicker, stronger
and imaginitive. Not only that, but in perfect mode, it only takes about one
single speed attack to kill a weak enemy. Killing enemies quicker will be a
lot easier in perfect mode, and you get much more points for killing an enemy.
After every level, you are usually shown an ending movie... but after that you
are always shown a screen. This screen shows four bars: fair, Good, Excellent
and Perfect. fair is coloured in stone, good is bronze, excellent is silver
and perfect is coloured gold. I will explain what this means below:
Say if you killed about 30 enemies in a level. Not all of them are going to be
one rating (e.g all killings were excellent) so they split up your score. On
average, you would have 15 fair, 10 good, 3 excellent and 2 perfects. For more
points, you better stop getting fair ratings, because the big points only
count when you have excellents and perfects.
There, I think I have told enough. If you find anything that I missed, you
want to add on anything I've already said or you have anything to say at all,
contact me at:
[email protected].
Thank you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3IV: Health
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Health plays quite a big part in this game, because without it you would be
either dead, or invincible. I will explain your health metre and what you
should do with different amounts of health below:
Your health metre is just above your experience metre. It is the long bar of
colour that goes down when you get hurt. The health metre is very similar to
other EA games. The health bar starts off green with full health, then it
slowly goes down to red, and that is where you are in most danger.
Let me just explain the different amounts of health:
Green/full - This means you have full health. You have nothing wrong with your
character and you are perfectly fit for battle.
Yellow - You have been affected by a couple of attacks from enemies. This
really is nothing to worry about. You can take more than a few more hits so
your character should be able to carry on in battle.
orange - A few more hits and your character will be hanging off a cliff -
holding on to his life. Be a bit more careful when in battle.
Red - This is not good. Try and kill more weaker enemies because more health
jars appear when you have less life. Don't get too cocky, though, because a
couple more hits and your character will be dead.
Flashing red - This is not good, not good at all. This is the very worst
condition you can be in before you die. This could mean that one single attack
against you will kill you.
These are the health items:
Red health jar - These seem to appear more when you have less health. They do
not seem to respawn you much health, but they work affectivly when you are
REALLY low on life.
Green health jar - These don't seem to appear as much as red health jars, but
they are much better than the red ones. They give you a lot more health than
the red ones but they are not as common. Pick them up when you have average
health.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3V: Missiles
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Missiles are your ranged attacks. Most characters have different ranged
attacks but missiles fill up 20 of any ranged attack. Every character can hold
a maximum of 30 missiles each.
To shoot your ranged attacks, hold L1 and press X. For more powerful ranged
attcks, you can just purchase missile upgrades, but you can also hold L1, then
hold X until your bow or missile shooter is stretched all the way back, then
release X. You will notice that each ranged attck is much more powerful when
you use this strategy to shoot missiles.
You will find missiles in every level in the game. They look like three arrows
rolled into a ball with a white light shining out of them.
The different sets of characters all have different missiles. Aragorn, Legolas
and Faramir shoot arrows out of their bows, Gimli throws small axes, Gandalf
fires laser projectiles out of the end of his staff, and the four hobbits all
throw small daggers.
The different types of missiles are almost the same. Other than the looks,
they are all as powerful as each other, but Legolas' arrows are more accurate
than any of the other missiles. This is just a hidden feature in the game
because in the story, Legolas is a master bow-man.
When you hold down L1 + X, you might not know who you are aiming at, here I
will explain. If you are not near any enemies, your missiles will just shoot
in the direction you are pointing at. However, if you are around quite a few
enemies, the enemy you are aiming at will be highlited in green. You will not
be able to aim elsewhere because your character will aim automatically aim at
the nearest enemy.
If you have any tips on missiles, or locations, please get in contact with me.
In this section you will find the list of enemies throughout the game. I will
tell you what they are called, where they are found, there description and how
to kill them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Orcs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Normal Orcs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Normal Orcs are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: Speed attack usually kills them quickly enough, but you can use
any attack to kill them. Normal Orcs are good enemies to try out your new
combos on. Use Orc Hewer if you are surrounded by loads of normal Orcs.
DESCRIPTION: Normal Orcs are the little ugly creatures that follow you
everywhere. The carry little swords that don't really hurt you that much. They
are bigger than Goblins, but they are smaller than the Uruk-hai. They hate
sunlight, so you will find them in most levels that are dark. They wear basic
armour sometimes, but sometimes they just go into battle wearing no armour at
all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Orc Archers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Orc archers are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: Ranged attacks will kill them in two shots, and speed attacks
will kill them in one hit.
DESCRIPTION: The Orc archers are just the same as normal Orcs, except they
fire arrows at you instead of hacking you to death with miniture swords. They
have quite good accuracy so you will have to dodge there arrows a lot. If you
are surrounded by Orc archers in levels like Palantirs, it might be best for
you to just parry until you find an opening to come out and hit them with your
sword. They tend to back away if you run at them, so you have to keep running
at them until they stop. Your characters ranged attacks will usually kill them
in two shots.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shielded Orcs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Shielded Orcs are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: Wait for them to run at you, then block there first attack. After
there first attack, they usually wait about five to six seconds before hitting
you again. Use that time to brake their shields with one single fierce attack.
Once their shield is out of your way, just use speed attacks to finish them
off.
DESCRIPTION: Juat like the normal Orcs but they carry shields and they are a
bit taller. They carry the same sword - well at least I think they do - but
they are just armed with a large heavy shield. They have the same bloodfirsty,
pale black faces, bbut they are not found as much as the normal Orcs. They
wear helmets as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Orcs With War Pikes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Mainly in the path of the Hobbits.
HOW TO KILL: Use Fierce attack to break there shield, then use an easy combo
like Orc Hewer to finish them off.
DESCRIPTION: These are the Orcs with the shields and the massive war pikes in
their hand. They have helmets on, so you can't really see their faces. They
are found mainly in the Cirith Ungol level, but sometimes they appear in other
levels.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Orc Champions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Orc champions are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: Use the same tactics to kill an Orc champion as you would to kill
a shielded enemy. They are more stronger than shielded enemies so you might
need to use fierce attack twice to break their armour completely. Once their
armour is down, use effective combos to finish it off. If you are playing as
the Hobbits, turn invisible and press R2 behind it for a quick and instant
kill.
DESCRIPTION: The Orc champions are the most powerful force of the Orc race.
The Orc champions are the ones with the life metre above their head. They
sometimes come out to attack you when you are in levels with a lot of other
enemies. You don't really see them that much, you only really get to see them
in the Palantirs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Uruk-hai
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Normal Uruk-hai
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Normal Uruk-hai are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: Kill the Uruk-hai with quick combos and speed attacks. They
usually die if you hit them three times with fierce attacks, or they die if
you hit them four times with speed attacks.
DESCRIPTION: The normal Uruk-hai are the big monster looking things. They are
about the size of any normal man; they are much bigger than Orcs. They have
much darker skin than Orcs, and they have white crosses across there chest.
They are found in every path and they can easily be killed by every character.
Normal Uruk-hai are found to be one of the most common enemies in the whole
game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uruk-hai Archers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Uruk-hai archers are found in the path of the Wizard mainly, and in the
path of the King. They are not found in the path of the Hobbits.
HOW TO KILL: You can shoot them with your ranged attacks, but you have to
parry whenever you see an arrow coming towards you. It's harder to dodge when
you are shooting missiles. Or you could just run up to them going left and
right and they will die with one speed attack.
DESCRIPTION: These are the ones with the crossbows. Don't you remember the one
that shot three arrows into Borimir, well he was an Uruk-hai archer. They look
just like normal Uruk-hai but they just carry crossbows instead of swords.
They don't back away as fast as the Orc archers do, but they still move back
if you run towards it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shielded Uruk-hai
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: The shielded Uruk-hai are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: Break their shields with a single fierce attack, then kill them
with speed attacks. They usually attack straight after you hit them, but if
you just stand still they'll hit you about every five seconds.
DESCRIPTION: The shielded Uruk-hai are the ones with the massive shields. They
are the excact same creatures as the normal Uruk-hai, but they carry shields
instead. They aren't found as much as the normal Uruk-hai, but they are still
found quite regulary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uruk-hai Champions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Uruk-hai champions are found in every path.
HOW TO KILL: You can kill Uruk-hai champions with loads of different moves.
You can use a powerful combo like Shield Cleaver that takes away about half
its life, or you can just break its armour with fierce attacks, and just
finish hime off with speed attacks. There are lots of other ways of beating an
Uruk-hai champion; powerful combos are deadly. If you are playing as a Hobbit,
turn invisible and sneak up behind it and press R2 for an instant, one-hit
kill.
DESCRIPTION: These are the really big Uruk-hai things. They carry two spike
things, one in each hand, and it hurts a lot if you get hit by one of them.
The Uruk-hai champions are really rare, but you will find them a lot in the
Palantirs. They are not as dark skined as other Uruk-hai enemies but you can
tell it's an Uruk-hai just by looking at it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Easterlings
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Normal Easterlings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King.
HOW TO KILL: Orc Hewer usually knocks down or even kills an Easterling. If you
knock one down just press R2 for the finishing move an it will be dead in no
time. If you are afraid of messing up a combo and losing life, just keep
tapping speed attack until it is dead.
DESCRIPTION: The Easterlings where once men, but now they have joined in the
great forces of evil. The Easterlings are the enemies in a red costume. The
wear gols helmets to cover their face and they have golden gloves. They are
really annoying because they keep on coming back for you even though you think
that you've already killed it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shielded Easterlings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King.
HOW TO KILL: Shielded Easterlings are a lot faster than other shielded enemies
so break their shield whenever you get the chance. Once there shield is down
they become normal Easterlings with war pikes instead of swords.
DESCRIPTION: Shielded Easterlings look excactly like normal Easterlings, but
the carry shileds and war pikes instead of swords. They are a lot more harder
to find than normal Easterlings, I don't know why.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dual Pike-wielding Easterlings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the king.
HOW TO KILL: Use the same tactics fo the shielded Easterlings.
DESCRIPTION: These Easterlings seem to be more stronger than other Easterlings
(not champions). Dual pike-wielding Easterlings are the ones with two war
pikes in their hand. They look excactly like normal and shielded Easterlings,
but they are a bit taller.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Easterling Champions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: These Easterlings are REALLY annoying. They follow you, then
circle you about five times, then they do this attack that knocks you down.
You can parry these attacks so do. Break their armour with a couple of blows
with speed attacks and use powerful combos on them. If they keep on reversing
your combos, use speed attacks when they have no armour.
DESCRIPTION: The Easterling champions look like the other Easterlings but
with nice big golden armour and a life meter above their head. The Easterling
Champions come in all different shapes and sizes, but none of them are
stronger or weaker than the other ones. The really big ones have the same
amount of health as the really small ones.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ghost Soldiers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Normal Ghost Soldiers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: The normal ghost soldiers are probably just as weak as miniture
Orcs. They have no armour what so ever, so speed attacks will do. You come
across the dead soldiers very early on in the path of the king, so you don't
need any combos or anything to kill them. Just keep with the speed attacks.
DESCRIPTION: Normal ghost soldiers are found on the very first two levels with
the Path of the King. They do NOT wear any type of armour, but they do carry
two swords. They look like skinny old skelletons but have the surroundings of
a ghost. They float above the floor and are always covered in a light blue
smoke.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shielded Ghost Soldiers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: Treat the shielded ghost soldiers just how you would treat any
other shielded enemy. Block their first attack, then break their shield with
a single speed attack. Finish them off with a few speed attacks.
DESCRIPTION: Instead of the traditional blue smoke covering the ghost
soldiers, this time it is covered in a yellow smoke. All of them float above
the ground, and if you find one that doesn't please tell me! They carry tall
shields and a single war pike in the other hand. I think that they wear this
hat on their head or something but I'm not sure. The Shielded ghost soldiers
are just as annoying as the other shielded enemies so DON'T under estimate
them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ghost Soldier Archers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: Arrows and missiles are probably your best defence against them.
The ghost soldier archers are much quicker and swifter than the other archers
in the game. They move backwards quickly when you run towards them, but when
you catch up to them, one or two speed attacks will kill them.
DESCRIPTION: Normal ghost soldiers with bows instead of swords. Everything
else is exactly the same.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ghost Soldier Champions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: The easiest way to kill them has to be to just use speed
attacks. They carry no armour, so there is no need to use fierce attacks
unless you are in a hurry. They have a life meter above their heads, and they
look really tough and strong, but they are the weakest champions in the game
to kill.
DESCRIPTION: Well, you can tell yourself. They look just like normal ghost
soldiers, but a bit taller, and they look like they carry armour. They carry
two much larger sticks than the normal ghost soldiers. They have NO armour at
all but it looks like they do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous Enemies
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~
Mumakil
~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: Just shoot them with missiles. You have to hit all three of the
explosives and then shoot the main part of the back to blow it up. About five
missiles are needed to blow it up.
DESCRIPTION: The Mumakil are the massive elaphants from the north. They are
almost identical to normal elephants but they have two horns on both sides of
its trunk. It carries about 100 Orc archers on its back. It marches slowly
and it doesn't stop for anything. Nothing can get in the way of a Mumakil,
only your own missiles.
~~~~~~~~
Trolls
~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King, path of the Wizard
HOW TO KILL: War Pikes. That's the simplist, most efficiant and quickest way
to knock down Trolls. When you come across a Troll and the only way past it
is to kill it, there will almost always be a war pike nearby. Another way is
to shoot missiles. If you charge up each missile, the Troll will be down in
about three hits, depending on how many upgrades you have for your ranged
attacks.
There is another way to kill Trolls if you're out of war pikes or missiles.
This is probably the hardest way to do it so only do it if you have quite a
lot of life energy. You can just use hand-to-hand combat. Use your most
quickest but most powerful combos on the Troll. After you do your combo, the
Troll will swing at you and knock you down on the floor so don't say I didn't
warn you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
baby spiders
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the Hobbits
HOW TO KILL: This is a tough one. If you are fighting spiders with a lot
of time on your hands and you are looking for xp points, you should probably
just use speed attacks. Speed attacks will probably get you in perfect mode
before you kill the spider so that's probably a good choice to use.
If you do not have much time like in the fight against Shelob, you should use
Fierce attack. A single Fierce attack will knock the baby spider on its back.
When it is on its back, press R2 to do a killing move. The spider should die
in about two attacks this way.
DESCRIPTION: Baby spiders look just like spiders. They are your average size,
and they have eight legs. I don't understand how you can get this enemy mixed
up with any other enemies, it's a spider?
HOW TO KILL: This is a tough one. If you are fighting spiders with a lot
of time on your hands and you are looking for xp points, you should probably
just use speed attacks. Speed attacks will probably get you in perfect mode
before you kill the spider so that's probably a good choice to use.
If you do not have much time like in the fight against Shelob, you should use
Fierce attack. A single Fierce attack will knock the baby spider on its back.
When it is on its back, press R2 to do a killing move. The spider should die
in about two attacks this way.
DESCRIPTION: They're just the same as the baby spiders but just much more
bigger and larger.
ringwraiths
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOUND: Path of the King
HOW TO KILL: At the very beginning of this fight, where the Ringwraiths appear
on Nazguls, they will all split up and go after one of your three companions
each. You have to take notice of your three companions life meter at the top
of the screen, and you must take notice of where all of them are standing.
None of the Ringwraiths go for you, which seems you're off the hook, but if
one of your companions die, then you all lose, and you start the fight again.
The first thing you should do is go to the war pikes nearest to the camera,
which are the ones you start by. Gandalf will shout out "You know their
weakness! Use it against them!". It's best if you listen to him. I am not
100% sure what their weakness is but I'm pretty sure that their weakness is
fire.
The war pikes have fire or some sort of hot thing on there pointy bit. Throw
one at each Ringwraith first, which should take off a tiny bit of life, but
that's enough. It's very weired in this fight because it seems that the
Ringwraiths lose less life when their life meter is green. If you throw a war
pike at one of them when they have full health, you will only get rid of a
tiny bit of life. But if you throw one when their life meter is yellow or
something, you will take off more life. Weird, or what?
The best thing you can do once a war pike is stuck through each war pike is
to shoot missiles. It is best to power up each missile because it is more
powerful when you charge it up. Also, when you are shooting missiles, shoot
a missile at one Wraith, then shoot another one. Do NOT keep on shooting
missiles at one wraith until it is dead because your other companions will
die. They should die in about five shots if you power up each missile,
depending on what upgrades you have for your missiles.
Another option other than just shooting missiles is to use close combat. This
is probably the hardest and longest way to doo it but it works if you are out
of missiles. The Ringwraiths have some sort of metal armour underneath their
cloaks because you can hear the sound when you hit them. Use powerful attacks
on them for the best results. Remember that you can easily parry their
attacks without losing any life, so parry a lot here.
Another method I picked up when I was playing this fight is the buckets of
fire. I figured it out when I was trying the fight out using close combat. I
lured a Ringwraith over to a Brazier (or whatever they're called, those
buckets with fire), then pressed action (R1) and spilled the fire over them.
It took off quite a lot of health when I spilled the fire but it didn't kill
them. Try it out yourself while fighting them in close combat.
This fight is not just about you, you know. You don't just have to kill the
three Ringwraiths, but you have to make sure that they don't hurt or kill
your three companions. If you see one of your companions life down, go over
and help them before they die. Your companions life will slowly go back up
because they have Strength of the Fellowship or something like that. Make
sure that you keep them alive, otherwise you have to start the fight again.
DESCRIPTION: Remember the Ringwraiths from the first film? Well, there back! The
Ringwraiths are the tall things that wear all black and a black hood which
you can't see through. They were once all great kings of men, but Saurons'
forces of evil turned them into the "darkside". They carry these quite long
swords and they have these silver metal gloves. They ride Horses and Nazguls.

Shagrat
~~~~~~~~~
Found: Cirith Ungol - Path of the Hobbits
Character: Sam
Difficulty: 6/10
Description:
Shagrat is the Orc champion in this game. You will only come across him once
in the whole game. He lives at the top of the tower of Cirith Ungol. He looks
just like any normal Orc, but he is much bigger and more built. He has nasty
marks on his face. He carries a sword and a shield and he has an infinite
amount of both shields and swords in his tower.
Attacks:
Shagrat slashes his sword at you like normal Orcs. His attacks are powerful
and they're hard to block. He blocks with his shield himself.
How to kill:
This battle starts straight away after you run across the stone bridge and
enter the tower. You will see a short cut-scene of Shagrat flying-kick an
Uruk-hai. Shagrat will take notice of Sam's appearence as soon as the cut-
scene ends. As soon as the fight starts, run towards the camera and go right.
Shagrat will run over to his sword and shields on the other side of the arena.
Where you are on the right of the arena, you will find some war pikes. Pick
them up with R1 and hold down R1. When you see that Shagrat has his shield in
his hand, aim your war pike at him. He will be running at a speed towards you
so be quick when you are aiming. If you hit him, you will brake through his
shield and he will stop running at you for about a second.
As soon as his shield brakes, turn around and grab another war pike and aim it
at him just like you did last time. Release R1 and your war pike should hit
Shagrat. If you miss here, you're dead. He'll catch you off guard, because Sam
takes so long to get his sword out again. You should hit him, and if you do,
he will drop his sword and stand still. You will notice that he looks dizzy
because his head is going round in circles. This is your only chance to
attack. You should have some decent upgrades by now because this is the third
level with Sam. Use a good, powerful combo like Shield Cleaver or Helm's
Hammer. Whatever combo you decide to use, Shagrat will drop on the foor for a
very short while, here's your chance to attack once more. Use the killing move
(R2) and you should take off some more of his life.
Shagrat will then get up again quite quickly and run back to his shield place.
You have to get to the war pikes near the camera before he reaches his sword
and shield. Use the same strategy as before to knock down his shield and
attack again. It is MUCH easier to get the war pikes near the camera because
you can see the whole arena from there and you can hit Shagrat from further
away. If you use the war pikes on the left of the arena, you will only be
able to see yourself. You will only be able to aim at Shagrat when he is quite
close to you, which is harder because you have less time to aim and throw.
You must take note that the camera angel is really bad for this fight and
well, you're just going to have to get used to it.
When you take off all of Shagrat's life, the battle is won. You will see a
short cut-scene of Sam talking to Frodo, and the Uruk-hai taking Frodo's
Mithril vest. You MUST remember that you can only take off Shagrat's life when
he is dizzy. You can't hurt him at all in just normal battle. Pleas remember
this because it will save a lot more time than just going straight for Shagrat
and noticing that he hasn't lost any life.
Shelob
~~~~~~~~
Found: Shelob's Lair - Path of the Hobbits
Character: Sam
Difficulty: 8/10
Description:
Shelob is the massive spider that lives in Shelob's Lair. She looks just like
the little spiders found in Shelob's Lair, but just a bigger version. She has
eight legs and a poison stinger. She also has some fangs ready to dig into
Sam's chest.
Attacks:
Shelob never gets out her stinger I don't think, well at least I've never
experienced her stinger. She does have a vary of different attacks though,
which seem to get harder to deal with throughout the fight. At the beginning
of the fight, she just tries to hit you with her front legs which you can
easily block and attack back. When she has stopped hitting you with her front
legs, she will run up on a ledge. She will just sit there, and all of her
little baby spiders' will come out. She will jump down once you have nearly
finished with her babys, and she will try to hit you. She will then try and
hit you with her front legs again, and here you have the chance to cut off
one of her legs. If you do cut off one of her legs, she will run around the
arena like mad and if she hits you, there's nothing that you can do about it.
How to Kill:
You start off coming out of a tunnel, and Shelob will be wrapping Frodo with
her web. Shelob hasn't noticed you yet, so you now have the advantage of a
headstart. Hit her big stinger bit from behind with a powerful combo. You can
use whatever combo you like. It is best to use your newest combo. She will
fall flat on top of Frodo, and she will turn around quickly and try and knock
you over. She will start poking you with her front legs, you can parry these
attacks easily. But you nead a good start for this fight, the best thing to
do is use speed attack when she is not attacking. You should see a very short
cut-scene of Sam sticking his sword right in her eyes. If you do that,
quickly run towards the camera because Shelob will try to knock you over. She
will run up onto a ledge somewhere in the arena, and she will sit there in
the dark, and all you will be able to see is her red eyes.
Whatever you do here, DO NOT throw missiles at Shelob. If you do, she will
jump down to the arena, meaning that you have to deal with the little spiders
and her!
Little spiders will come out of holes in the walls. You don't have much time
here so I will tell you the fastest way to kill them all. Block their first
attack, then use a fierce attack to knock them over. They should be on their
back, so you have to use the killing move to finish them off. If you want a
high score for this level, you can just use speed attacks to get you in
perfect mode which makes you more vulnerable to the baby spiders, and it takes
longer. If the speed attacks don't work for you, don't blame me that Shelob
jumps on top of you in the middle of fighting the baby spiders. trust me, you
don't want to fight Shelob and the baby spiders at the same time. They will
somehow hit you when you are about to attack Shelob, and if you go for the
little spiders, Shelob will attack you. So really, the best way to do it is
to use fierce attack, then the killing move.
If all goes well with the little spiders, there will be none left for now.
Shelob will jump into the arena, trying to hit you. You don't want her to hit
you because it will take away some of your health and she will catch you off
guard. You can avoid her by just running out of her way. If you dodge her then
great. She will miss you, and she will be on the floor in pain because she
missed. You want her on the floor. Use a strong attack like you did at the
very beginning of the fight. Get out of the way when you attack her because
she will try and knock you down.
She will get back into her stance again like she did at the beginning of the
fight. She will try and attack you with her front legs again, and you can
easily block them. If you do hit her with your sword here, you will see a cut-
scene of Sam cutting through Shelob's front leg. Now quickly get out of her
way. She will be running around in circles very quickly and if she hits you,
you cannot block her, and it will hurt. It's probably best to stay in the
middle of the arena here and try and get behind her. Or you could try and
follow her in case she hits you, but that is very hard because Sam is slow.
Eventually, she will run up on the ledge again and call out more little
spiders. You will see the little spiders jump out of the holes in the walls
again, but this time, you will notice that there are more of them. There will
be about two or three little spiders more than last time. They're obviously
trying to make this battle harder the longer it goes on for. Kill them using
the quicker way which is fierce attack then the killing move.
After about a minute of killing the little spiders, Shelob will jump down
again and try and hit you like last time. Use the same strategy as before,
parry her attacks, then attack her with speed attacks. Try and finish her off
here because the fight does get harder and this is your first chance to
finish her off. If you don't kill her here, she will run up on to the ledge
and even MORE spiders will come out of the holes in the wall.
When you kill her, you will see a short cut-scene of Sam sticking his sword
into Shelob's stinger. Shelob will run back into her lair, while Sam runs over
to Frodo. Two Orcs will come down the steps, and take Frodo back to Cirith
Ungol. You have now finished the level.

King of the Dead
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found: King of the Dead - Path of the King
Character: Aragon, Legolas or Gimli
Difficulty: 8/10
Description:
The King of the Dead is the massive ghost soldier found at the beginning of
the level, the King of the Dead. He floats an inch or two off the ground, and
he is covered in dark yellow smoke. He is really tall, and his face is like a
skeloton and he wears a crown. He carries a reddish glowing massive sword.
Attacks:
At the beginning of the fight, the king starts attacking you with three sword
slashes which you can block. Then, when he stops hitting you with three sword
slashes, he moves onto five. He also calls up his fellow ghost soldiers to
defend him. Near the end of the fight, he gets this powerful wind attack that
you can't block. You have to get behind a rock to avoid it. After three wind
attacks, he starts again.
How to Kill:
You will start off this fight with a movie. Aragon asks the king to fight for
him, so the king challenges him to a fight. Whatever character you decide to
use, the movie will still have Aragon in it. The best character to use is the
character that you used for the previous level. I recommened Legolas because
he will have powerful arrows now, which you need in this fight.
You start off facing him, and he will start attacking. Parry his three-hit
combo, then attack him with an attack of your own, like Orc Hewer. As soon as
you attack him, go back into your parrying stance, because he will attack you
like he did before. He will stop after his third attack like last time, so
attack him again. He will then sink into the ground, and then appear back on
the other side of the arena, on top of the ground. Then, four normal ghost
soldiers will come out. Charge up an arrow, and shoot it at one of the normal
ghost soldiers. Now, attack the remaining ghost soldiers with a series of
speed attacks. Once all of them have gone, the king will sink back into the
ground, and appear back where he was before.
He will use the same three-hit combo again so use the same strategy as
before. He will sink back into the ground again, but this time, use the
killing move (R2) when he is sinking into the ground. Doing that will take
off some of his health. He will go back to the other side of the arena again,
but this time, two normal ghost soldiers, two shielded ghost soldiers, and
two ghost soldier archers will appear. The strategy I found easiest was to
take out the two archers first with arrows. The ghost soldier archers are
on a ledge high up on the right of the screen. Next, once they are down, take
care of the two normal ghost soldiers with speed attacks. Now, you should
only have two more shielded ghost soldiers left. Let them attack you first,
and block their first attack. They will stop for a bit, so here's your chance
to attack. Use a single fierce attack to brake their shields, then finish
them off with speed attacks.
The king will come back again using underground transport and appear back at
the centre of the arena. He will attck you this time with five slashes in a
row, not three. Also, he stops for a second after the fourth attack, so keep
on parrying until he attacks the fifth time. Attack him back, and you will
see a cut-scene of a spirit coming out of his chest. He will then stand by
his throne, and he will breath in, then breath out, creating a lot of wind
that can damage your health. You start off behind a rock which protects you
from the wind attack so don't worry about it. Stay behind the roack until his
next wind attack. Here, you run towards the camera, and hide behind the large
rock, where the missiles are. After his third wind attack, he will run over
to you, and attack you with five attacks. Use the same strategy as before
and try and finish him off now.
If you don't win the fight here, he will keep bringing out more ghost
soldiers and become more stronger. So, just keep to the basic strategy as
before and he will die eventually. When you kill him, he will bring down the
cave and you will then have to escape the city of the dead.
IMPORTANT! MUST READ!!!
In the King of the dead battle, only you are fighting the king. Your two
companions are trapped behind the rocks so you will only meet up with them
once you win the fight.
Witch King and Mumakil
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found: Pellenor Fields - Path of the King
Character: Aragon, legolas or Gimli
Difficulty: 7/10
Description:
The Witch King looks just like Sauron did in the first movie, the fellowship
of the Ring. He wears that same Nazgul cloack and the same cool helmet. He
rides on a Nazgul, and he carries a sword and a spiky think on a chain.
The Mumakil is just a massive Elephant with horns and a house on its back. It
carries Orc and Uruk-hai archers on its back who shoot arrows at you. You
only see them a few times in this level.
Attacks:
The Witch King orders his Nazgul to swoop down and pick up or "poke" their
enemy. He only goes for Eowyn and Merry on this level, not you.
The Mumakil just marches across the fields, not taking any notice of what
it's stomping on. The Orc archers shoot arrows a lot from the Mumakil's back
but all the Mumakil does is march.
How to Kill:
You should go for the Mumakil first as it appears first on the level. You
need to go up the path to get on the ledge, then just fire missiles at them.
The archers shoot back at you too so you have to parry at the same time. You
have to aim at the explosive part of the Mumakil in order to blow it up.
There are three parts of explosives on the Mumakil's back so you have to
shoot them. Each one blows up in about one or two shots. Once all of them are
down, aim at the main part of the house of archers and if you charge up your
missiles it should blow up in about two shots, depending on how many upgrades
you have for your missiles.
If you are not confident on shooting missiles, then that's OK. You should
notice the catapults on the ledge that you are standing on. When the Mumakil
walks past the catapult, fire a catapult and if it hits the Mumakil, it
should get rid of one explosive part. To get rid of the rest of the
explosives, keep following the path in line with the Mumakil and you should
see some war pikes somewhere. Chuck them at the Mumakil until it blows up.
This is probably the hardest way to do it though, because you are chucking
war pikes and catapults which means you don't have time to parry.
You must remember that the Mumakil's explosives are only on one side of the
house on its back. That means you have to go onto the ledge nearest to the
explosive part to blow it up. In order to get to the other ledge, you must
cross the field again. Go down the path you are on, and run past the
battlefield. Ignore the enemies just run past them, even if they attack you,
just keep on running until you are on the other ledge (you have to run up the
other path). Keep on using this strategy until you see the Witch King.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can only kill the Witch King when its life meter appears on the top right
corner of the screen. It will be slowly hurting Eowyn and Merry and you have
to keep them alive. You can find the Witch King at the end of each ledge,
floating over Eowyn and Merry. You have to fire missiles at it in order to
kill it. Charge up your missiles all the time because they are more powerful
charged up.
Orcs and Easterlings will be attacking you while you shoot the Witch King so
watch out for them. The Witch King eventually will die, he will die even
quicker if you don't get caught up in a fight between the Easterlings and
Orcs. The level is complete once you have destroyed the Witch king.

Massive Trolls
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found: Minas Tirith- Courtyard - Path of the Wizard
Character: Gandalf
Difficulty: 6/10
Description:
In case you don't already know, the massive Trolls are the massive green
things that don't brush their teeth. They carry that spike thing on a chain
like the Witch King, but the massive Trolls walk on foot. The massive Trolls
are the really big ones. There are other sizes of Trolls, but I'm only
talking about the massive ones in Minas Tirith- Courtyard.
Attacks:
The Trolls swing there spike thing around, hitting anyone that gets in its
way. It also sometimes slams its spike thing into the ground, squashing you
or an Orc into the ground. That's all they really do, but they do have
different swing attacks.
How to Kill:
For this level, the most easiest, simplist, and quickest way to kill a massive
Troll is to just throw a war pike at it. War pikes are big and sharp. Somehow
they kill any sized Troll in one shot. So all you really have to do to get
down a Troll is throw a war pike at it.
There are different ways of taking a Troll. You can charge up your missiles,
then fire about three missiles and the Troll will be dead. This might be
easier than throwing a war pike for some people because if an enemie is
attacking you, you can just drop your missile by releasing L1 and parrying.
If you have a war pike in your hand then you have to drop it and it takes
ages to come back again.
You could just try close combat if you have a lot of life. You can just run up
to the Troll and use some powerful combos. This is risky, because if you use
a combo on a troll, the troll's just gonna hit you down. After a combo,
Gandalf stops for a second, then he gets back into action. In that second,
the troll will hit you. You can always attack again after you've been hit
because the Troll will be down after about two powerful combos.
Remember that there is more than just one massive troll in this level. The
Trolls never stop coming in until you have saved 200 people so that they can
flee to the inner-walls.
Sauron's Lietenant
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found: The Black Gate - Path of the King
Characters: Aragon, Legolas, Gimli or Gandalf
Difficulty: 6/10
Description:
Sauron's Lieutenant looks just like the Witch King and Sauron himself. He
wears the same cool mask, and the same cool Nazgul cloak. He carries one big,
long sword that is very sharp, but unlike the Witch King, he doesn't have
that spike thing on a chain.
Attacks:
Well, he has this really cool attack that is unblockable and you can't escape
it. He bends down, then springs up out of camera view, and lands in the
center of the arena. You cannot block this attack or get out of his way
because it creates a mini earth-quake. He also does these really basic sword
swings which are blckable and even if you get hit it doesn't hurt that much.
How to Kill:
This is a really easy fight. The best character to use for this level is
Gandalf. You should have a lot of upgrades for him now as you have done three
levels with him now. You should really use a character that is higher than
level five or six. You don't have to use Gandalf, I just asummed that he
would be your best character at the moment.
You start off this fight in the center of the hilltop (the arena). Sauron's
Lieutenant starts off with his 'unblockable spring attack'. There's nothing
you can do about this attack, so just don't be surprised when you are on the
floor. Now, he will try and do more of those attacks but you can tell when
he's about to do it when he bends down. When he bends down, quickly hit him
with a speed attack and he'll just go back to his fighting stance.
He will start swinging his sword at you, but you can parry against these
attacks. When he stops attacking you, you can just hit him back with a single
fierce attack. That will take away some of his life, and make him angry. From
now, use powerful combos instead of fierce attacks. Shield Cleaver or Helm's
Hammer are good combos to use when he's off guard. Now, the rest is easy. All
you have to do is just make sure he doesn't do that attack that's unblockable
and keep to the same basic strategy.
Sauron's Lieutenant will have a life meter above his head so you will no when
he's nearly dead. When he loses all of his life, the fight is over and won
but you still have to go on with the level. You will have to create a
diversion on the same hilltop, and defeat six waves of sauron's army. When
you have completed six waves, you have to kill three Ringwraiths. See my full
FAQ/Walkthrough for more details.

Three Ringwraiths
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Found: The Black Gate: Path of the King
Characters: Aragon, Legolas, Gimli or Gandalf
Difficulty: 7/10
Description:
Remember the Ringwraiths from the first film? Well, there back! The
Ringwraiths are the tall things that wear all black and a black hood which
you can't see through. They were once all great kings of men, but Saurons'
forces of evil turned them into the "darkside". They carry these quite long
swords and they have these silver metal gloves. They ride Horses and Nazguls.
Attacks:
Well, the three Ringwraiths just use these really basic sword attacks that
are blockable. They don't really do anything other than that, they just try
and hit you with their swords.
How to Kill:
At the very beginning of this fight, where the Ringwraiths appear on Nazguls,
they will all split up and go after one of your three companions each. You
have to take notice of your three companions life meter at the top of the
screen, and you must take notice of where all of them are standing. None of
the Ringwraiths go for you, which seems you're off the hook, but if one of
your companions die, then you all lose, and you start the fight again.
The first thing you should do is go to the war pikes nearest to the camera,
which are the ones you start by. Gandalf will shout out "You know their
weakness! Use it against them!". It's best if you listen to him. I am not
100% sure what their weakness is but I'm pretty sure that their weakness is
fire.
The war pikes have fire or some sort of hot thing on there pointy bit. Throw
one at each Ringwraith first, which should take off a tiny bit of life, but
that's enough. It's very weired in this fight because it seems that the
Ringwraiths lose less life when their life meter is green. If you throw a war
pike at one of them when they have full health, you will only get rid of a
tiny bit of life. But if you throw one when their life meter is yellow or
something, you will take off more life. Weird, or what?
The best thing you can do once a war pike is stuck through each war pike is
to shoot missiles. It is best to power up each missile because it is more
powerful when you charge it up. Also, when you are shooting missiles, shoot
a missile at one Wraith, then shoot another one. Do NOT keep on shooting
missiles at one wraith until it is dead because your other companions will
die. They should die in about five shots if you power up each missile,
depending on what upgrades you have for your missiles.
Another option other than just shooting missiles is to use close combat. This
is probably the hardest and longest way to doo it but it works if you are out
of missiles. The Ringwraiths have some sort of metal armour underneath their
cloaks because you can hear the sound when you hit them. Use powerful attacks
on them for the best results. Remember that you can easily parry their
attacks without losing any life, so parry a lot here.
Another method I picked up when I was playing this fight is the buckets of
fire. I figured it out when I was trying the fight out using close combat. I
lured a Ringwraith over to a Brazier (or whatever they're called, those
buckets with fire), then pressed action (R1) and spilled the fire over them.
It took off quite a lot of health when I spilled the fire but it didn't kill
them. Try it out yourself while fighting them in close combat.
This fight is not just about you, you know. You don't just have to kill the
three Ringwraiths, but you have to make sure that they don't hurt or kill
your three companions. If you see one of your companions life down, go over
and help them before they die. Your companions life will slowly go back up
because they have Strength of the Fellowship or something like that. Make
sure that you keep them alive, otherwise you have to start the fight again.
Golum
Found: Crack of Doom - Path of the Hobbits
Character: Frodo ONLY
Difficulty: 6/10
Description:
Golum is the evil, greedy, ring-wanter we all know and hate a lot. He is
obsessed with the one ring of power as he once owned it but lost it and
through generations it came back to Frodo. Smeagol, who is now called Golum,
used to be one of the River Folk because you can tell from the sound he makes
from the back of his throat to speak. He wants the ring, and now he has it,
because he bit off Frodo's finger. He is very small and boney, meaning that
his bones stick out, it really is disgusting. He is a greenish colour, and
he has very thin threads of white hair at the top of his head.
Attacks:
He sometimes does this spinning kick where he puts his weight on his hands,
then he springs out his legs to kick you when you are close to him. He also
does this attack when he stops on his knees and growls and raises his hands
slowly. He then jumps onto you from a distance which hurts quite a lot if you
don't parry. He also just punches you and kicks you but they can be easily
parried.
How to Kill:
The easiest way I find is to stand by the edge of the cliff (you can't fall
off). Wait there with Sam and Golum eventually will come up to you and do
that jumping attack. Get out of his way and he will be at the very edge of
the cliff. Hit him with a speed attack, and he will be balancing at the very
edge of the cliff. Hit him again with a fierce attack and he will be hanging
onto the cliff with his hands. Use the killing move to knock him off. He will
hang on to the side of the cliff, and climb back up.
Part of the cliff will come down here, and you will see a cut-scene of lava
and rocks falling from the top of Mount Doom. You have to avoid getting hit
by the rocks and the lava because it takes away quite a lot of health. The
rest of the fight is plain and simple. You only have to repeat the same
strategy until he dies. More rocks and lava falls down from the top of the
mountain, and Golum does get stronger. But you only have to knock him off
the cliff about four more times until he actually falls into the flames of
Mount Doom. And the ring is destroyed. And the game is complete.
I will just quickly explain how you should send me Email messages:
=======================
What you SHOULD tell me
=======================
- How good my guide is. If you enjoyed reading this guide, you got a little
out of it, or you just liked reading it, please tell me. I always like
positive feedback. You don't have to tell me, it is completely up to you,
you and you only.
- If you found something like a hidden level that is NOT covered in this
guide. Say if you beat all the levels in about 30 minutes and you unlock a
secret something, please tell me. If it is not true, you will be completely
ignored.
- If you have a better strategy than me for one of the levels. I would be
happy to post any strategy that YOU wrote up on my guide. If you feel that
my strategy is weak or yours is better than mine, please submit your
strategy.
============================
Things you SHOULDN'T tell me
============================
- How bad my guide is. If you don't like my guide, I don't care, and I don't
want to know. There is another guide for this game, and another one if you
can speak dutch. Tell the world if you don't like this guide. In fact, tell
everyone you want EXCEPT for me. I really don't want to be dealing with a
lot of junk mail.
- If you found a green character with purple hair and gold eyes. Why? Why
would you tell me something like that that is completely a lie? Well, you'll
be surprised at the amount of people that do send me junk like that.
- Don't send me any attachments. Most of them contain viruses, and some just
slow my computer down. If I try to open any attachments, my computer just
rejects them and most of the time I have to restart my computer. Only very
few times have I opened attachments. If you have to send me an attachment,
compress your file, then, and only then will I consider opening it.
If you apply by those rules, you can send your Emails to:
