Intro [02INT]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This guide is about the preset storyline characters that join your
party during Soul Calibur 3's new mode: Chronicles of the Sword. They
have quite a few differences compared to any normal Created Character.
Some good, some bad, and others just interesting. This guide does not
cover actual specific game play tactics, just guidelines and stats to
help with more general info.
If you would like to contact me about this guide, or some other matter

Parallel Fighting Styles [03PFS]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Each of the chracters use a weapon and discipline of a particular Bonus
Character; in fact three of them even are Bonus Characters. If you
liked using certaint characters in Quick Play or Versus mode, you might
like or dislike using a corresponding party members. Here is a list
of which CotS characters are like which Bonus Characters:
Aeneas - Girardot
Riese - Revenant
Meiga - Arthur
Abelia - Herself
Eurydice - Strife
Girardot - Himself
Ailian - Aurelia
Kanon - Valeria
Leraje - Amy
Jinkai - Miser
Xiaoxin - Hwang
Tina - Greed
Yuilin - Demuth
Luca - Chester
Feofan - Abelia
Rudiger - Girardot
Luna - Herself
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Character Attributes [04CAT]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlike the rest of SC3, CotS uses (or at least shows you for once) many
RPG like stats to determine the power and durability of the fighters.
in this sense, CotS is almost like a SRPG and a Fighting gameat the
same time. Here is a list of the Attributes/Stats that make up a
character-
Alignment: Determines the Characters Voice and lines. There are 4
different Alignments based on two factors: Good & Evil, and Light
(Aggressive) & Dark (Passive). Good and Light makes Fire, Good and Dark
makes Wind, Evil and Light makes Water, and Evil and Dark makes
Lighting. Interesting enough, some characters (Such as Aeneas) have
Alignments they wouldn't have if you made them in Create a Character.
Job: Determines how much Health, STR, VIT, and AGI the Character will
get on Level up. For normal Created Characters it determines what
disciplines the character can use, but the Characters that join your
party only have one.
Weapon: The discipline and weapon the character can use. The characters
in this guide are unique and only have one disipline. An example is
that all other Samurai can use Katana, Katana and Shurkien, Sickle,
Soul of Mitsurugi, and Soul of Yoshimitsu, but Meiga is restricted to
just Katana.
Level: Determines how much Health, STR, VIT, and AGI gets based on
their Job. It increases with certaint amounts of EXP.
Experience: Or simply EXP. The numerator is the current amount and the
denominator is the amount needed to level again
Health: Or HP. The amount of over all punishment the character can take
before they are forced to retreat. It also buffers you from Ring Out
damage. Yes, in CotS if you have enough health when you Ring Out you
can still continue to fight during Encounters.
Strength: Or STR. Makes you do more damage both on the field and in
an encounter. The effect in the field is much more minor than during
encounters. One with high STR should still stick to being an Infantry
unit. I'm not sure, but it probablly also helps destroy bases, so it
might be good for Bandits too.
Vitallity: or VIT. Lowers the amount of damage you take both on the
field and during an encounter. The effect in the field is much more
minor than during encounters. Good for everybody.
Agility: Or AGI. Raises movement speed, and maybe even attack speed,
during encounters. You won't notice much of a difference until you
have alot of AGI (150+). I stil haven't figured out what it does in the
field.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Job Comparison [05JOC]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As stated in the last section, the Character's Job determines their HP,
STR, VIT, and AGI gained for each level. This section is to look at and
compare which class excels and what and what role they should take in
the party.
The party members you gain in CotS make use of 10 of the 13 Jobs, and
14 of the 17 Create a Character disiplines. You gain no Barbarians,
Dancers, or Sword Masters; and no one that can wield Staff, Tambourine,
or Nunchaku. Consider making your Main Character one of these missing
Jobs, or able to use one of those disiplines.
Anyway, the Jobs the special characters possess-
Monk (Kanon 1st Job)-
High HP and STR, but very low VIT. Uses Grieve Edge.
Thief (Luca, Riese 1st Job)-
Very high AGI, but other stats are lacking. Uses Wave Sword or Dagger.
Saint (Yuilin)-
Decent amount of HP and VIT, with its lowest stat AGI not too far behind.
Depending on your point of view, its well balance is either very good, or
makes it a mediocre Job. Uses Steel Fan.
Ninja (Jinkai 1st Job)-
High AGI with also good STR, but VIT is lacking. Uses Katana and
Shuriken.
Gladiator (Abelia, Feofan, Kanon 2nd Job)-
Excels at STR, followed by HP; AGI is low and VIT is bad. Most use Sword
& Shield, but some use Grieve Edge.
Pirate (Xiaoxin, Eurydice 1st Job, Leraje 2nd Job)-
Excels in HP, followed by STR; VIT is low and AGI is bad. May use
Chinese Sword, Iron Sword, or Rapier.
Sage (Luna)-
Fairly nice VIT, follwed by STR and HP; AGI is a bit behind. Uses Chinese
Blade.
Assassin (Tina, Riese 2nd Job)-
High STR and AGI. Pretty much outclasses a Ninja in everything but a
few minor HPs. Uses Kunai or Wave Sword.
Knight (Aeneas, Girardot, Rudiger, Eurydice 2st Job, Leraje 1st Job)-
Some of the best VIT possible and good HP, but bad AGI. Most use Lance,
bith some others wield Iron Sword or Rapier.
Samurai (Meiga, Ailian, Jinkai 2nd Job)-
The best STR, but every thing else is pretty meh, especially AGI. Uses
Katana, Sickle, or Katana and Shuriken.
Personally, I like the specialization from Knight's high VIT and
Samurai's high STR. An Assassin's combo of both STR and AGI is very
nice, especially in bases with the Seperate effect. I really don't like
Thief.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mandatory Characters [06MAC]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
These characters show up and join your party at different points during
the story. They typically have the most dialouge and interaction.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
AENEAS [MCAEN]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Tutorial
Alignment: Water
Job: Knight
Weapon: Heavy Lance
Level: 1
EXP: 0/300
HP: 260
STR: 81
VIT: 120
AGI: 91
At Chapter 18
Alignment: Water
Job: Knight
Weapon: Heavy Lance
Level: 38
EXP: 25820/27360
HP: 424
STR: 137
VIT: 174
AGI: 107
The first member who joins your party. You have him right from the
start. Being a Knight and Lance user, Aeneas is very powerful and handy
in both field battles and encounters. With a high VIT rating he makes a
good Knight, but Infantry and even Calvary are good if you want to make
him move faster. He leaves your party after Chapter 12, but can be
re-recruited after Chapter 17. He actually joins your party regardless
if you defeat him or not.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
RIESE [MCRIE]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 1
Alignment: Water
Job: Thief
Weapon: Wave Sword
Level: 1
EXP: 0/300
HP: 241
STR: 75
VIT: 71
AGI: 106
At Chapter 18
Alignment: Water
Job: Assassin
Weapon: Wave Sword
Level: 36
EXP: 22950/24350
HP: 328
STR: 156
VIT: 129
AGI: 153
Your second character that joins during Chapter 1. I'm not really a fan
of Wave Swords but some might like her. Riese's low stats make her easy
prey in field combat, so start an encounter if she meets the enemy.
Bandit or Calvary are good unit types for her. Like Aeneas, she leaves
after Chapter 12, but rejoins if you defeat her in Chapter 17. She
changes from Thief to Assassin, which I'd say is a step in the right
direction.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
MEIGA [MCMEI]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 3
Alignment: Fire
Job: Samurai
Weapon: Zantetsuken
Level: 4
EXP: 930/1260
HP: 253
STR: 128
VIT: 100
AGI: 81
At Chapter 18
Alignment: Fire
Job: Samurai
Weapon: Zantetsuken
Level: 35
EXP: 21610/22950
HP: 338
STR: 208
VIT: 133
AGI: 98
Joins at the start of Chapter 3. Being a Samurai Meiga's a very
powerful fighter with high STR. Useful both in the field and in
encounters. I leave him an Infantry so that he can crush the enemy in
the field. Another character who leaves at Chapter 12, and can be
fought in Chapter 17 in order to get him back on your team.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ABELIA [MCABE]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 5
Alignment: Fire
Job: Gladiator
Weapon: Gladius
Level: 8
EXP: 2310/2680
HP: 277
STR: 121
VIT: 79
AGI: 89
At Chapter 11
Alignment: Fire
Job: Gladiator
Weapon: Gladius
Level: 21
EXP: 8450/9100
HP: 337
STR: 140
VIT: 85
AGI: 96
At Chapter 13
Alignment: Lightning
Job: Gladiator
Weapon: Gladius
Level: 38
EXP: 25820/27360
HP: 414
STR: 167
VIT: 93
AGI: 105
First joins you in Chapter 5. Abelia joins and leaves your party more
than any other character. Each time she comes back she's more powerful
than before, though. Her Alignment and Costume even change. Sword and
Shield makes her deadly during encounters. You should keep her as
Infantry, and if she's not the target have her keep pounding the enemy
while on the field; if the enemy starts attacking her start an
encounter.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
EURYDICE [MCEUR]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 5
Alignment: Fire
Job: Pirate
Weapon: Great Sword
Level: 8
EXP: 2310/2680
HP: 276
STR: 115
VIT: 84
AGI: 85
At Chapter 18
Alignment: Fire
Job: Knight
Weapon: Great Sword
Level: 37
EXP: 24350/25820
HP: 420
STR: 136
VIT: 172
AGI: 106
Another character that joins at Chapter 5. Eurydice is one of the best
characters you can get. Iron Sword is a powerful class of weapons, and
she has the stats to pack a punch. Infantry and Calvary are good
choices for her. She leaves after Chapter 12 like other members, but
can be fought in Chapter 17 and will rejoin afterwards. She comes back
as a Knight, but keeps the Iron Sword.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
GIRARDOT [MCGIR]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 7
Alignment: Fire
Job: Knight
Weapon: Heavy Lance
Level: 15
EXP: 5170/5650
HP: 323
STR: 102
VIT: 140
AGI: 96
He's pretty much a second Aeneas, at probablly a higher level, which is
of course a good thing. Don't get too attached to him beacuse once he
leaves after Chapter 12 he never returns to your party. You might want
to not even use him, so that the rest of your party's levels don't
suffer. Later, you can recruit his son who fights just like him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
AILIAN [MCAIL]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 9
Alignment: Lightning
Job: Samurai
Weapon: Sickle
Level: 17
EXP: 6150/6680
HP: 280
STR: 128
VIT: 103
AGI: 123
At Chapter 17
Alignment: Lightning
Job: Samurai
Weapon: Sickle
Level: 39
EXP: 27360/28970
HP: 351
STR: 219
VIT: 136
AGI: 101
Ailian fights as a NPC in chapter 8 you can save, but don't worry about
her as she joins up no matter what. She joins at the start of Chapter
9. Samurai is a good Job, but I don't really like the Sickle weapons.
Infantry is a good unit type for her, and I keep her in field fights
since I don't really like her in encounters. She leaves after Chapter
12, but comes back right at the start of Chapter 17.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TINA [MCTIN]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 13
Alignment: Fire
Job: Assassin
Weapon: Kunai
Level: 25
EXP: 11290/12100
HP: 301
STR: 140
VIT: 123
AGI: 144
One of the three new characters you get at the start of Chapter 13.
She has quite a bit of dialouge now that your other vocal members
aren't with you. Kunai is one of my favorite weapon styles, so I
found her useful, and is over all the best of the three new chracters.
Infantry and Bandit are good unit options.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
YUILIN [MCYUI]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 13
Alignment: Fire
Job: Saint
Weapon: Steel Fan
Level: 27
EXP: 12950/13850
HP: 332
STR: 118
VIT: 130
AGI: 107
Another new character who shows up in Chapter 13. I didn't find her too
useful since Fan is kind of not my style. I'd probablly make her a
Knight.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
LUCA [MCLUC]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 13
Alignment: Fire
Job: Thief
Weapon: Jambiya
Level: 26
EXP: 12100/12950
HP: 303
STR: 88
VIT: 84
AGI: 119
The third character you get in Chapter 13. He's the worst of the three.
Though I like Daggers, Thief has some rather poor stats that will wind
up in Luca ending up dead pretty quick. Keep him a Bandit and out of
field fights.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
LUNA [MCLUN]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 19
Alignment: Water
Job: Sage
Weapon: Heisheng Jian
Level: 51
EXP: 51850/54450
HP: 466
STR: 143
VIT: 149
AGI: 127
Your last character and a former foe at that. She's quite strong, even
if you can only use her for 2 Chapters. Infantry and Knight are both
good unit options. I used her as my main tank while making it over to
Strife.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Optional Characters [07OPC]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
These characters don't join your party automatically. Instead they have
to be saved before they come over to your forces.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
KANON [OCKAN]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 9
Alignment: Wind
Job: Monk
Weapon: Kick Edge
Level: 12
EXP: 3850/4270
HP: 301
STR: 117
VIT: 71
AGI: 91
At Chapter 18
Alignment: Wind
Job: Gladiator
Weapon: Kick Edge
Level: 32
EXP: 17950/19110
HP: 387
STR: 157
VIT: 90
AGI: 103
One of the Halteese soldiers you can save during Chapter 8. Unlike
Ailian, you must save Kanon before she is killed, or she won't join
you. Problem is that she's behind a Maletta base and several troops are
charging at her fast. The best way to get her is to make 3 Bandits and
place them near the node closest to her. Break down the base quickly,
and run to Kanon to save her. Ailian will probablly get killed during
this, but don't worry about it. She leaves after Chapter 12, but can
be fought in Chapter 17 so that she rejoins. Shegoes from Monk to
Gladiator, which I guess is an ok trade.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
LERAJE [OCLER]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 9
Alignment: Wind
Job: Knight
Weapon: Schweitzer
Level: 15
EXP: 5170/5650
HP: 323
STR: 102
VIT: 140
AGI: 96
At Chapter 18
Alignment: Wind
Job: Pirate
Weapon: Schweitzer
Level: 37
EXP: 24350/25820
HP: 403
STR: 158
VIT: 114
AGI: 99
Another Halteese Soldier you can save during Chapter 8. Though Maletta
soldiers are charging at him too, no bases are blocking him. Send a
Calvary to his aid and he'll join after the battle. Like pretty much
everyone else he leaves after chapter 12, but can be fought so he'll
come back in Chapter 18. I really don't like that he gos from Knight to
Pirate, beacuse it really lowers the amount of punishment he can take.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Either/Or Characters [08EOC]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
These characters come in sets. You can have one or the other, but never
both in the same play through. You can choose the other one in a New
Game+, though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
JINKAI [EOJIN]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 9
Alignment: Fire
Job: Ninja
Weapon: Onimaro and Tobikage
Level: 21
EXP: 8450/9100
HP: 291
STR: 134
VIT: 104
AGI: 126
At Chapter 17
Alignment: Fire
Job: Samurai
Weapon: Onimaro and Tobikage
Level: 38
EXP: 25820/27360
HP: 348
STR: 216
VIT: 136
AGI: 100
You can only get him or Xiaoxin, and since I like Katana and Shuriken
more than Chinese Sword, I typically get Jinkai. Though he joins at
Chapter 9, getting him matters on what you did during Chapter 2. During
that chapter you faced off against a number of enemies, two of them
being Jinkai and Xiaoxin. If you killed Jinkai first, then you get him.
You'll most likely get him your first time anyway, as you'll probablly
run in to him first, as he charges a base closer to your Main base. He
leaves after Chapter 12, but comes back at the start of Chapter 17.
He goes from Ninja to Samurai, which I'd say is good.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
XIAOXIN [EOXIA]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 9
Alignment: Water
Job: Pirate
Weapon: Qing Long
Level: 20
EXP: 7830/8450
HP: 329
STR: 132
VIT: 89
AGI: 91
At Capter 17
Alignment: Water
Job: Pirate
Weapon: Qing Long
Level: 37
EXP: 24350/25820
HP: 403
STR: 158
VIT: 114
AGI: 99
The other chracter you can get in place of Jinkai. During Chapter 2
defeat him before Jinkai and he'll join at Chapter 9. Like Jinkai and
Ailian he leaves after Chapter 12, but returns during the start of
Chapter 17.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
FEOFAN [EOFEO]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 16
Alignment: Wind
Job: Gladiator
Weapon: Gladius
Level: 34
EXP: 20330/21610
HP: 396
STR: 160
VIT: 91
AGI: 103
You can only get him or Rudiger. I'd rather get Rudiger as a Lance user
to take Girardot's place is alot more useful. Plus Feofan looks really
weird. It's more likely you'll get Feofan, though. Just like with
Xiaoxin and Jinkai, whoever you defeat first joins your party, however
Feofan is really close to your Main Base, while Rudiger is on the other
side of the map. He gets overshadowed once you get Abelia back.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
RUDIGER [EORUD]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-Stats-
At Chapter 16
Alignment: Water
Job: Knight
Weapon: Heavy Lance
Level: 38
EXP: 25820/27360
HP: 424
STR: 137
VIT: 174
AGI: 107
You can only get him or Feofan. I go with Rudiger as he uses a Lance,
looks really cool (And also unlocks his cool gear for Character
Creation), and is also Girardot's son (This is only mentioned on the
SC3 Website and not really in game). Problem is getting him, though.
You have to defeat him before Feofan, which can easily put your Main
Base at great risk, possibly failing the Chapter. Make sure you have
enough gold to spare so that you can foritfy alot. First foritfy your
base to the south, then take out the minor Rebels standing around.
Now you'll want to take out the two bases north of Voldo out at
around the same, the far north one being the more important. Once
any of the Rebel bases are taken out, eight powerful enemies will
charge right for your Main base, among them being Rudiger and Feofan.
If you do it right you'll trap Katina and Fengyu, and if you're lucky
Rudiger and Mayura will split up. When Rudiger is out in the field
charage him and start an encounter with a character you know can take
him out. Now just clean up the rest so your Main Base stays in shape.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Job Change and New Game+ [09JCN]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As you've porbably noticed, some of the characters' Jobs change around
Chapter 17 or 18. Some of these are good, and others can be a bit bad
for their stats. Jinkai for exmaple loses alot of AGI, but gains STR.
Here is alist of changes:
Jinkai: Ninja > Samurai
Riese: Thief > Assassin
Eurydice: Pirate > Knight
Kanon: Monk > Gladiator
Leraje: Knight > Pirate
Since Jinkai joins you at the start of the Chapter, you can't avoid
this change. The other 4 are enemies during Chapter 17 and if you
defeat them they rejoin. If you leave them alone they won't come back
to your party and won't change Jobs. And why would you not want them
back in your party? New Game+. When you beat Chapter 20 and save a
New Game+, not only do levels carry over, but so do these Job class
changes. So once Eurydice becomes a Knight you can never turn her back
into a Pirate. If you want to avoid fighting them you'll have to fight
through Sophitia and Tira, which isn't too hard by the time you get
there.
Oddly enough Kanon and Leraje are enemy characters even if you didn't
save them back in Chapter 8. They won't join you if you defeat them
here, though.
Another note about New Game+ is that even though Abelia's alignment
rests to Fire, she keeps her Lightning voice. She's now Evil from the
start of the game!
