Here are the character attributes and the skills learned at each level. For
these tables, all attributes are natural values, unaltered by seals or
equipment. This means NO seals were used on any of the characters in the game
used to document these attribute tables.

* Yuri *
********
Yuri's special skills are a bit different from the other characters since he
is the only playable character that can transform. The attribute he needs
in order to transform into more powerful fusion souls is SP, so let's see how
this works before displaying his attribute table.
After Yuri defeats a fusion monster in the graveyard, he acquires that soul
and he can equip up to 3 souls from the menu. Note that only 2 souls will
appear until you scroll down the list of acquired souls. More powerful souls
consume more SP. Just how does this work?
First, to determine when Yuri can use level 2 and 3 fusion souls, we need to
do a little math. (Similar math can be used to see when Yuri can fuse to
Amon and SeraphicRadiance.) A level 2 soul requires 32 SP, and a level 3
soul requires 48 SP. If you want Yuri to be able to do something useful
(like attack) without going Berserk immediately afterwards, he will need to
have at least 1 SP after the fusion process and doing an action. So, he will
need at least 2 more SP than the "SP consumed" by fusion. If he is at or
close to these marginal levels, either he or another character can then use a
Pure Leaf, Seed, Root, or Extract to keep his SP above zero.
Second, consider two situations: with and without equipping the Flare Brooch.
** Without the Flare Brooch, he needs 34 SP (Yuri at Level 14) to safely fuse
to a level 2 soul, and 50 SP (Yuri at level 30) to safely fuse to a level
3 soul.
** With the Flare Brooch equipped, he needs 20% less SP. 80% of 32 is 25.6,
so this value +2 and then rounded down gives an SP of 27 (Yuri at Level 7)
for a level-2 soul. 80% of 48 is 38.4, so this value +2 and then rounded
down gives an SP of 40 (Yuri at Level 20) for a level-3 soul.

How does Yuri get each type of soul?

For levels 1-3, he needs to earn elemental soul energy for each type of
soul (fire/water, wind/earth, light/dark). For souls other than level 1,
you (also) need to complete other events to trigger acquiring the fusion
soul.

* Q2: What are the special skills and how do they work? *

These are some of my favorite tables. I keep a copy of these within reach
whenever I play so I can select characters and skills for each location.
While most of this should be self-explanatory, a few terms are new and need
some discussion:
-> "Ring+" shows the number of target areas and adds a + if the last target
area adds a narrow section for a perfect-hit.
-> "on?" shows whether the skill applies to 1 or ALL members of your party.
-> "Level" shows the level at which the skill is learned.
-> "Ring complexity" is the sum of the target areas for all skills. This is
one measure of how challenging it is to use each character's special
skills. (Another measure would be the width of the areas, but there is no
easy way to quantify this.) Without considering Yuri's rings yet, Alice
has the lowest ring complexity (11) while Keith has the highest (18).
-> "Total MP consumed" provides a way to compare the (mana) resources required
to use each character's skills. Overall, Alice requires the least amount
of resources (356 MP) while Keith requires the most (476 MP).

important? This allows you to select a balanced group of characters depending

Here are some conclusions. (You can find a lot more if you look at this table
for a while.)
1. Water-based attacks are the most common (5 skills) while
light-based and non-class attacks are the least common (2).
2. Keith and Zhuzhen are the most versitile (covering 7 and 6 elemental
classes), while Alice is the least versitile (only 1 class).
3. While the strongest skill for some characters is the same as their
elemental class (e.g. Alice/light has Advent/Light, Zhuzhen/fire has
Flames of Fudo/Fire, and Keith/Dark and Gift/Dark), the strongest attack
for Margatete/water is NOT water-based, but Fire-based!

Conclusions:
1. Y and A alternate for the highest and lowest HP, MP, SP, Str & Int.
2. K has the highest Vit and the lowest Pow and Lck.
3. Z has the lowest Vit and Agl, but the highest Pow!
4. M is the luckiest, and K is the least lucky.
5. H is a middle-of-the-road, rather balanced kind of guy.
General comments:
1. All characters share the same experience-point table. In any game, the
characters are at different levels because they play as active characters for
different amounts of time.
2. After Yuri (who always starts at level 3) meets Alice (who always starts
at level 1), each subsequent new character starts at an average level of the
existing party. So, in order to try to discover when each character learns
early skills, it was necessary to avoid gaining experience whenever possible!
3. The lowest level shown for each character was therefore obtained in a game
intentionally played with as little leveling up as reasonably possible. All
BOSSes are mandatory battles, so some experience must be gained in order to
progress in the story and meet all characters. I escaped (R1, then X) some,
but not all random monster battles to avoid increasing experience whenever
possible. Some of these were also found to be unavoidable, usually when they
back attacked, and this usually happened soon after each time the game was
saved.
4. When characters disappeared from the story for periods of time, they were
found to level up to the group average when they reappeared. This means that
in a normal game, each character does not progress through every level. So,
in order to build character tables that included all levels, I needed to keep
at least 2 versions of the game going simultaneously, so I could go back and
level up characters before they disappeared. I then continued playing the
low-level game until Halley joined the group.
******************************************************************************
* Q4: What do these attributes really mean? *
******************************************************************************
HP - Hit Points is a measure of resistance to enemy attacks. Higher HP means
more damage can be received. When HP drops to 0, the character is
unconscious and can not participate in battle unless resurrected by an
appropriate item (such as a Talisman) or a skill (such as Resurrection).
If a character has 0 HP at the end of a battle, that character is revived
with HP = 1. HP is increased permanently by Seal of Life.
MP - Magic Points is a measure of how much magic or special skills the
character can cast. Using a skill consumes magic points. If these are
not replenished by an item (such as a Mana Leaf) or a skill (such as
Drain Wave), that character can not perform the magic or special skill.
MP is increased permanently by Seal of Aura.
SP - Sanity Points is a measure of how long a character can be controlled
during battle. Typically, a character's SP value decreases by 1 after
each turn in battle, whether the character attacks, uses an item, or just
defends. When SP decreases to 0, the character goes berserk and can not
be controlled until the end of the battle or until someone (typically an
allie) uses a sanity-restoring item (such as a Pure Leaf). Some
accessories (a Jug and Yuri's Flare Brooch) can affect the rate at which
SP decreases during battle and Anne's Cross gives a character a second
chance to extend their sanity a bit longer. SP is increased permanently
by Seal of Soul.
Str -Strength is a measure of how much damage can be done by a physical
attack, or P-Atk. Higher STR means more damage is be done by a P-Atk.
STR (and P-Atk) are increased permanently by Seal of Strength.
Vit -Vitality measures a character's stamina and defense against P-Atk.
Higher VIT means less damage is received by a P-Atk, so P-Def is higher.
VIT (and P-Def) are increased permanently by Seal of Vitality.
Agl -Agility measures coordination and reaction speed. Higher AGL means a
higher hit rate (less chance of missing) and an increased chance of
avoiding an attack (higher P-Avd and S-Avd). AGL (and P-Avd and S-Avd)
are increased permanently by Seal of Speed.
Int -Intelligence determines the effectiveness of magic and special items.
Higher INT means magic will be more effective (do more S-Atk damage) and
less chance of missing. (Magic and Items can miss if INT is too low!!).
INT (and S-Atk) are increased permanently by Seal of Wisdom.
Pow -Power is a measure of defense against magic or special attacks, S-Def.
Higher POW means less damage is done by magic attacks. POW (and S-Def)
are increased permanently by Seal of Force.
Lck -Luck determines how well attacks are given or are avoided. Higher LCK
means an increased chance a P-Atk will be critical (for 50% more damage),
a death weapon or skill will actually kill an enemy, and a higher chance
of avoiding damage, supposedly both physical and special although this
does not directly change P-Avd and S-Avd since the effect is random
rather than certain. Luck is increased permanently by Seal of Luck.

* Q5: What is the best way to develop character attributes with Seals? *
******************************************************************************
So, what's the best way to use the VERY FEW Seals you've got?
1st, avoid wasting Seals on less important characters. This is very much a
personal choice, but pick your favorite 2 characters other than *Y* (who you
will select to fight the final battles with *Y*). Limit your use of Seals to
these 3 characters!
2nd, use your Seals in battle (preferably against a very weak enemy that you
can ignore, like at Blue Castle) so you can try to get the maximum effect.
Never use a Seal in the field or you'll get the minimum effect (+3 for HP and
MP, and +1 for the rest). In battle, a successful hit (in the green area)
gives a mid-range result (+4 for HP and MP, +1 for SP, and +2 for the rest),
while a perfect hit gives the maximum result (+5 for HP and MP, +2 for SP,
and +3 for the rest).
3rd, use equipment (Iron Clogs) and/or items (Bronze Daggers, and Gold
Hourglasses) to increase your chance of getting perfect hits. (Don't bother
with Silver Hands since you'll only get the mid-range results.) This is not a
time to be proud or macho, so don't be afraid to use some accessory and item
help with the ring. The number of Seals is very limited, so go after the
maximum effects!
4th, work on one character at a time. While you can attempt to boost all
characters in a single battle, it is wisest to devote a bit of time to this
and adjust the attributes of one character at a time. Use the other two
characters to keep the ring wide and slow, and defend when they are not
needed. You should use Seals with your Lottery strategy by saving and
reloading if you don't get a perfect hit.
5th, decide on your goals for each of your favorite characters. If you want
more balanced characters, use the seals to boost the weaker attributes.
Alternatively, if you want super attributes in some characters, you can boost
the strongest attributes even further.

So, what character development can be done? This depends on the number of
Seals you have. There are 3 ways to get Seals:
(1) Find them
=> During normal gameplay, you can find 3 Seals of Life and 2 of each of
the other Seals.
(2) Win them in a lottery
=> If you use only 1 ticket per lottery and get every red prize, you
should have at least 3 or 4 tickets remaining. You *CAN* get up to 9 more
Seals and still play all of the lotteries by skipping the red prizes and
getting Seals in lotteries 8 to 0! It may seem to be a questionable choice
to skip some of the red prizes, but is it really? Many of these prizes can be
obtained elsewhere. There are a few unique items, but you should be able to
get about 5 more Seals this way without too much pain, meaning you use the
lotteries to get the unique items and other ways (buying, finding, or winning
in battle) to get the other items. If you want to play at all of the
lotteries, you'll need to get a different seal at each of the last 9 lotteries;
but, what might happen if you're willing to focus on one attribute (like SP or
Agl)?
(3) Win them from the four masks while clearing Malice.
=> Particularly after you reach Europe, you can increase the probability
that the masks will reward you with a rare item (like Seals) by overkilling
the various Evil monsters! (See my Trigger Guide for a bit more info on
this.) Here is another reason to avoid beating the masks too soon: the more
times you fight the masks, the more chances you have of getting rewarded with
a Seal!!!

So, now you can see the rather limited character development possible under
typical (i.e., Balanced) and atypical (i.e., Super Speed) gameplay. A valid
question might be, is it even worth worrying about since the effects are
small. Only you can answer that question, but hopefully this guide can help
if you do decide to do a little character tweeking.
