METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY - PAL CASTING THEATER FAQ
Created by MWOJM (

=====================================================================
The PAL (european) edition of Metal Gear Solid 2 contains extra
features not available in the US or Japanese versions of the game (I
don't think it is in the Japanese version - If it is I apologise).
One of these features is the Casting Theater mode. Here I am to tell
you about it. Yipee.

1. FAQ VERSION HISTORY
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1.0 - Created: 8th June 2002
Finished: 9th June 2002
File Size: About 60KB
Well this section sucks...I just wrote what's here!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
2. THE MADE UP FAQ BIT
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. How do I unlock it then?
---------------------------
All you have to do is complete the Tanker and Plant chapters once,
and it doesn't matter what order you do it in.
The Casting Theater option will then appear in the 'Special' menu.
Q. And how does it work again?
------------------------------
You choose a scene from the game, and you get to change the
characters in that scene around. For example, when Vamp attacks the
SEALs, you could make it Ocelot attacking lots of Raidens.
Alright! Emma getting stabbed, here I come!
-------------------------------------------
Err...not quite. You can only choose from 8 cut scenes from the game:
Demo 1: Stealth Snake from Bridge to Tanker
Demo 2: Snake watches soldiers landing on Tanker
Demo 3: Olga meets Snake
Demo 4: Ocelot steals Ray
Demo 5: Vamp eliminates SEALs
Demo 6: Fortune Vs SEALs
Demo 7: Solidus Vs mass-produced Rays
Demo 8: Solidus Vs Raiden: The final battle
Q. Can I at least pick Emma?
----------------------------
*sigh* No, you can't. You can only choose from the following
characters:
Raiden - The blonde boy who looks more than slightly like a girl.
Solidus - The Chief baddie with the tentacles. Comes in 2 forms;
'Regular' and 'Pumped'.
Snake - The gruff hero, Solid Snake. Carries his cigarettes
everywhere.
Ocelot - The guy who's really old, with a pistol and a possessed arm.
Vamp - The...vamp. Comes in two forms; 'Regular' and 'Shot and
shirtless'.
Fortune - The girl in the swimsuit, carrying a gun the size of a
hatchback. Fear her.
Rose - Raiden's lovely Codec operator...but is she real?
Snake (MGS1) - The Solid Snake from the first game, in all his few-
polygons glory.
Ocelot (MGS1) - Ocelot's model from the first game, and he's not very
detailed either.
Office worker (male) - Used in the ending sequence...a guy in a suit
with a shoulder bag.
Office worker (female) - Also in the ending sequence. A woman in a
suit.
Lady (middle age) - I haven't seen her anywhere in the game. A large,
grey-haired woman in a blue dress.
Soldier (hi-tech gear) - The russian soldier that comes for you in a
clearing. Wears grey camo reinforced armour.
Soldier - The 'normal' russian Gurlukovich troop, complete with
orange camo suit, black balaclava and AK.
SEALs - The doomed SEAL team US soldiers, with their grey suits and
black balaclavas.
Ninja - Not the Gray Fox Ninja unfortunately... this is the MGS2 one.
Pliskin - You know who, in his SEAL team lieutenant disguise.
Scott - Scott Dolph, the guy who gives the 7-minute speech at the end
of the tanker mission.
Olga - Her of the hairy armpits, in her tanker costume.
Sergei - One of the big guns from Shadow Moses, Sergei Gurlokovich is
Olga's dad and Ocelot's comrade.
Even then it's not that simple. You can only use certain characters
in certain scenes - Raiden and Snake are available for just about
everything, but Rose is only available for Demos 7 and 8. You can see
who can be replaced with who in the in-depth scene section.
So I can pick Snake. What about the soldiers in the tanker, can I...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
No, you can't turn all the marines into Snake. You can only change
certain 'roles' in a scene, and the marines are not one of them. More
on that later.
It's not fair! I can't do any of the scenes I wanted to!
-------------------------------------------------------
True, true. You get what you're given and that's it. You can't unlock
bonus characters through dog tags either. Hey, now there's an idea
for Substance...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
3. THE IN DEPTH SCENE ANALYSIS BIT
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, I'm going to go through the scenes one at a time. I'll list
the following:
CAST:------ I'll put the name of who the character is supposed to be,
then list the characters you can select to take that role.
FROM: ----- A brief description of when the scene starts
TO: ------- A brief description of when the scene ends
NOTES: ---- Any extra, things I can think of to do with the scene.
Here are a few general notes that apply to every scene:
* The voices remain the same. If you put Fortune in place of Ocelot,
when she opens her mouth she will talk like an old man.
* The casting theater has no gore. this is particularly noticeable in
Demo 5: Vamp eliminates SEALs.
* Not everybody is the same size. The easiest way to see this is to
select OCELOT (MGS1) in place of SEALS in Demo 6. Notice how the ones
lying down float? That's because they are shorter and thinner. This
also makes people hold guns oddly.
* As well as selecting characters, you can also set a role to
SHUFFLE. This will make the PS2 choose someone at random for you.
There is a button to set every role to SHUFFLE.
* You can't equip anyone with any items. You cannot have Raiden with
the Orange Wig, or Snake with a clean shaven face. The 'sunglasses'
and 'boxer shorts' situations are also sadly excluded.
* The Office workers and the Lady are not major parts, and are made
up of less polygons to save PS2 power. This simply means that they
can't open their mouths. I think if you put someone in place of
someone who wears a mask (e.g. you use Ocelot as a SEAL) their mouth
won't move - Why waste time programming a mouth to move if no-one can
see it?
Understand? Good.
--------------------------------------------------------------------\
Demo 1: Stealth Snake from Bridge to Tanker
--------------------------------------------------------------------/
FROM: The George Washington Bridge fades into view, as a crackle of
thunder is heard...
TO: Solid Snake, safely on the tanker, kneels down behind an

tentacles, and his muscles are the normal size.
* The role of 'Snake under the cloak' stays the same - No one else
appears under that cloak. Your choice kicks in once he gets rid of
the cloak and turns his stealth Camo on.
* The stealth is selective about hair - You can still see Raiden's
hair, as well as a little bit of Fortunes.

4. THE END (ALL THE THANKS & STUFF)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's it. Thanks to Konami for a great game, thanks to me for
filling a gap in the FAQs, and thanks to AstroBlue, who wrote the FAQ
that I used to see how to lay mine out.
One last thank - An honourable mention to Shankis for telling me how
to post this.
Metal Gear Solid is a copyright of Konami hem de lay la la la, oochie

should know all the copyrights, and if you don't, check them in
another FAQ. No-one reads this bit anyway.
