3. INTRODUCTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

While playing Gran Turismo 3 A-spec, I noticed that the game had an
amazing amount of information on each individual car. Thereafter, I noticed
that no FAQs or walkthroughs covered it. So I took matters into my own hands
and made the Car Information Database that you see here.

The descriptions of each company and car are taken directly from the
game, and the cars are sorted as they are in-game. As of now this guide
doesn't have any of my own notes or strategies for each car. Could that be in
the future? Possibly. I may even include some charts comparing the cars. As
of now, enjoy what information I have included. So far.

Feel free to send in any information that I don't have to my e-mail
address ([email protected]), but before you do, make sure that it is 100%
correct. If you send me information I don't yet have, I'll credit you in the
credits section. If you decide to contribute something, please tell me what
car it is by using the numbered system in my guide. For example, if you
wanted to provide information on the Jaguar XJ220 Road Car, you'd say 22-2.
22 being the company, Jaguar, and 2 being the car, XJ220 Road Car. The
numbers of each car are listed to the left of their names.

Acura was created in 1986 as Honda's luxury division in North
America. It sells vehicles ranging from the sporty Integra to the prestigious

sport-luxury coupes with the 3.2 CL Type S. It combines
luxury with technological sophistication with serious power,
and, if it's a little softer than an Integra Type R, it has
               no lack of preformance ability.

8. ASTON MARTIN

Combine the name of company founder Lionel Martin and the Aston
Clinton hillclimb where an early car had success, and you get Aston Martin.

       8-1. DB7 Vantage Coupe (2000)
The distinguished British car manufacturer Aston
Martin positions the DB7 Vantage at the top end of their
models based on the DB7, which was introduced in November
1994. "Vantage" is a traditional Aston Martin name given only
to their high performance versions, and this one, although
based on the DB7, has been given a considerable performance
               boost over the normal DB7.

been the desire of BMW to create the ultimate driving machine, products of
unmistakable identity, which has been no problem in the past eight decades.

model at the time of its debut, a two-door coupe was added
for 2000. It has the 'Ci' designation, BMW way of indicating

Cruiser is both and neither. It's truly an original

minivan. The PT Cruiser hides minivan-like versatility and
an amazing amount of space under its street rod retro-chic
exterior. It's more about style than absolute speed, but the
PT Cruiser is quick enough to be fun and handles much better

The Dodge brothers started the company in the early 1900s, and
Chrysler bought it in 1928. Muscle cars like the Charger gave it fame in the
1960s. It is still the performance part of DaimerChrysler, with Vipers to
prove the point.

legendary American sports car, the Cobra, participated in the
development process, hinting at the character of this car.

the SVT Cobra has independent rear suspension (IRS) for
significantly improved handling, especially on bumpy roads.
This is a first in the "pony car" class, and also makes the

20. HONDA
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Honda was already the world's biggest motorcycle manufacturer when it
turned to four wheels in 1962. Now it has a hugely successful car operation
with manufacturing plants in the UK and the US as well as Japan.

       20-1. CR-X Del Sol SiR (1995)
While the previous generation CR-X was a front-wheel
drive sports hatch with a "peaky" personality, the version
which appeared in February 1992 got the nickname 'Del-Sol'
appended its CR-X designation, and a greatly changed image.
It became a fashionable open top two-seater. Although it
remained with a front-engine, front-wheel drive layout, it
had the look of a mid-engined car.

celebrates Honda's heritage in auto and motorcycle racing,

The first Type R, it was considerably more powerful than the
Integra, Accord, and Civic models that followed. But, like
those cars, the NSX Type R focused on increased performance

front-wheel drive, but upon entering the rally arena, Lancia
made a 180-degree turnabout and introduced a 4WD weapon. This
is the HF Integrale which appeared in 1988.

There can be no more doubt that the Eunos Roadster (Mazda
Miata in the US) carved out a unique niche as the car that
revived the sports roadster. It has now become the open
sports car by which all others are judged. The Eunos Roadster
made its appearance in March 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show
under the name "Miata/MX-5" for the US market, and went on
sale in its "hometown" of Japan in September. At the time,
lightweight two-seater convertibles seemed extinct. The few
that were still in production were relics of the 60's and
70's. But suddenly, Mazda of Japan put this car in the ring
               and forever changed automotive history.

Based on the Silvia S15, the first Japanese
four-seater convertible with a motorized metal roof appeared
in July 2000. This model was called the Silvia Varietta. The
Varietta is not exactly a convertible sports car. It should
more properly be called a convertible specialty car.

       30-2. Skyline GTS-t Type M R32 (1991)
The Skyline R32 that appeared in May 1989 completely
revived that sports image of the Skyline, which had been in
danger of being diluted. Think of sports and the Skyline
together and the GT-R will inevitably come to mind, but even
the regular Skyline was so capable that it can be said to be
the best rear-wheel drive car of its day.

36. RUF
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although some may argue that RUF simply modifies the products of a
famous German sports car maker, the transformation of its road cars is so
complete that the company is an offical car maker in its own right.

       36-1. 3400 S (2000/Arcade)
The company Ruf GmbH founded by Alois Ruf is easily
mistaken for a simple tuner that modifies cars built by other
manufacturers. But it is a full-fledged automaker, having
acquired its certification as an automobile manufacturer from
the German government. The 3400 S model produced by Ruf is a
complete machine based on a famous sports car manufacturer's

37. SHELBY

Racing driver Carroll Shelby built his first cars in 1962. They were
British AC chassis with 4.2-liter Ford V8 engines - the legendary Cobra. He
then moved on to tuning Mustangs until 1970. Subsequently, Shelby worked with
several other manufacturers, running racing programs or making
high-performance versions of their cars. He is currently building the Shelby
Series 1 sports car.

Fewer than 400 were built from 1965 through 1967; replicas
abound today. The 427 Cobra is legendary, and for good

46. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here I will answer any questions that you ask me. More to come.

Q. WHAT CAR SHOULD I START WITH?
A. This is the question I get asked the most by far, but it has a simple
answer: you choose. Don't ask people how to play the game or what to buy.
If you want a '97 Honda NSX, go for it. If you'd rather have a Volkswagen
New Beetle, fine. Don't ask people how to play your game, play it
  yourself.

Q. HOW DO I GET THE LAMBORGINI DIABLO/NOMAD?
A. You can't. It's only it the Japanese version of the game.

Q. CAN YOU ADD THE INFORMATION FOR (INSERT CAR HERE) TO THE DATABASE?
A. Sure. Just tell me which car(s).

Q. CAN I TYPE UP SOME OF THE CAR SPECS FOR YOU TO INSERT IN YOUR DATABASE?
A. By all means! Do as many as you want. Do all of them. Saves me work and
gets the database completed quicker.
