I.  What's new

After each dialogue choice there are values being subtracted and/or
added.  In the Dojo, there are values for each promotion and some
choices get you points towards getting into that promotion.  After
every choice, there are values for:

H - Hotbloodedness
A - Ambition
B - Babyface

In addition to what your wrestler's most used move type is, these
three values could play a major part in where your wrestler goes
as well as what he does.

Also, as you wrestle through your route, you gain Popularity points.
This is based on what is done during the match.  Playing the crowd
an ideal number of times, doing your finisher and specialties enough,
and having match lengths suitable to your promotion all increase
Popularity.  Having a high Popularity means getting the good endings.

Check the Deep File FAQ ( plug, plug ) for specific information
regarding Popularity.

II. Foreword

This document may be distributed freely as long as it is not done for
profit.  All other rights reserved.

This is a translation for the dialogue that occurs during the Fighting Road
mode.  It's an ongoing project, which I plan to update frequently until
I run out of things to translate (which as of now is a ways off).

I've decided to use the game's fictional names for now.  I don't know or
recognize all of the wrestlers and certainly can't put real names to faces
for everyone.  Maybe down the road, I will.

The default name for the player's wrestler is Yuji Yamashita, "The Hope of
a New Star."  He's going to be referred to as YY here.  All names will be
in Given-Family name format so as to avoid confusion with Japanese names.

Things that are being thought by the main character are enclosed in
brackets [like this].
Things that happen but not explicitly shown in story mode are enclosed in
parentheses (like this).
Special notes about what is going in are enclose in curly braces
{like this}.
If any dialogue or monologue is longer than one line, a line that ends
where the player is prompted to push a button to continue will end like
this. |

Parameters next to a dialog choice mean how it affects your wrestler's
personality, Fighting Road score, and/or leanings toward a particular
promotion.  The three main personality traits are Hotblooded (H),
Ambitious (A), and Babyface (B).  Having a high score in certain
personality trait may take a wrestler down a different path.

If you have corrections for something you feel was mistranslated, please
let me know (and try to be descriptive in your correction).  I'm not
fluent in Japanese and this project was born not just from a curiosity
of what was going on, but to strengthen my current knowledge of the
language.  Therefore, I can't guarantee that this is a 100% accurate
translation, but I can say with confidence that it is pretty accurate.
Comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

III. Fighting Road Translation

A. The Dojo
[ I... have won... the glorious championship belt is in my hands...] |
[ The cheers of the crowd reaches my ears... Many people are coming to
 congratulate me...] |
[ The moment I've dreamed of has arrived...] |

?:
Hey!  Hey you!

[ ? ]

?:
Hey, do me a favor and wake up.  Otherwise, the coach'll yell at us.

[ The coach? ] |
[ ... ]

?:
You awake?

YY:
Ah, man... it was just a dream.

?:
"Ah, man" is it?  Hurry up and maybe he won't notice.

YY:
Got it.  I'm getting up.

?:
That was quick.

[ That's right... Yesterday, I became a student of this dojo.] |
[ For the sake of fulfilling my dream of becoming a great wrestler...]

(Flashback)

Coach:
Fine.  I'll train you.  But you better be willing to work to the point of
exhaustion. |
We'll see if you've got heart.  Someone with heart can push himself to his
limits, to outlast his opponent until that opportunity to win. |
Show me what you're made of!

(End Flashback)

YY:
Alright, then.  This is the beginning of my new life!

(Dialogue Prompt #1)
(A. I'll do it!)
       { VJP +1, OJP +1 } { H +2 }
(B. I'll surprise the coach with how strong I'll become. )
       { IW +1, USA +1 } { H +1, A +1 )
(C. I have to approach this calmly. )
       { UWH +1 } { H -2 )

(Prompt 1, Response A)
(Sound of the coach's bamboo sword smacking YY)
YY:
Ouch!

Coach:
Hurry up and get ready!

YY:
Yes, coach!  Sorry, coach!  I'm hurrying!

?:
Did you get overexcited and say something wrong?

YY:
No, it's nothing.

(End 1A)

(Prompt 1, Response B)
Coach:
Thinking of tackling me already?  Need to learn to walk before you can
fly.

YY:
Ack! |
Coach...

Coach:
Quit fooling around and get ready!

YY:
Yes, Coach!  Sorry, Coach!  I'm hurrying!

?:
What was that all about?

YY:
Nothing, it's fine.

(End 1B)

( Prompt 1, Response C )
Coach:
Yes, that's a wise approach.

YY:
Woah!  Coach, don't startle me like that.

Coach:
Come see me when you're done. |
And hurry it up.

YY:
Yes.

?:
Hey, I'm ready.

YY:
Okay, give me a minute.

(End 1C )

[ This is Koichi Sakagami.  Even though we met just yesterday, we talk like
 we're old friends. ] |
[ He was applying to enter the dojo at the same time that I came here.
Eventually, we were both accepted in the same entering class of students
and we help each other out. ]

Koichi:
What is it?

YY:
Nothing.  I'll be going in a little while.

Koichi:
Weird guy...

(Fade out, then back in)

Coach:
Done warming up?

YY:
Yes.

Coach:
Mmm.  We'll begin immediately with a training session. |
What's the first thing you want to work on?  After the development of
physical strength, what do you think is the next most important thing?

YY:
Hmmm...

(Dialogue Prompt #2)
(A. Defensive positioning) { OJP +1 } { H +1 }
(B. Back-grappling) { VJP +1, UWH +1 } { H -1 }
(C. Ropework) { IW +1, USA +1 } { H +1 }

(Prompt 2, Response A)
Coach:
Defensive positioning, hm? |
To have good defensive positioning can only be a benefit to you
in pro wrestling.

(End 2A)

(Prompt 2, Response B)
Coach:
I see. |
It will be the foundation of your training.

(End 2B)

(Prompt 2, Response C)
Coach:
Mm. |
It's surprising, the tendency to neglect this essential aspect of
wrestling.

(End 2C)

Coach:
Fine, let's start. |
We'll work on this relentlessly for maybe about a week.

[ The coach smiled for just an instant.  That sent a chill down my spine.] |
[ I really didn't know much up until I came here, but now I'm learning
from one of the best coaches there is.  Nearby, Koichi was also learning,
as we began preparing for our new way of life. ]

( Fade out, then back in )

[ Eleven months have passed. ] |
[ Koichi and I would occasionally take a
break from our training at night and hang out.  All in all, it was a
great time in my life. ]

Koichi:
I'm here!

[ He had a pretty intense look.  I imagine I had that look as well. ] |
[ Eleven months of training has brought us up until now. ]

( Sound of a car pulling up )

[ The sound of brakes caused us to snap to attention ]

YY & Koichi:
Morning, Coach!

Coach:
Mm.  You two are pretty punctual today, eh?

YY & Koichi:
Yes sir!

Coach:
Mm.  Ah, yes... |
Today, you two are going to spar in the style of a real match.

YY & K:
Wha?

Coach:
What's the matter, you don't want to?

YY:
No, no!  We'll do it!

Koichi:
A-absolutely!

Coach:
Really. |
Before, we'd just stop when we said so.  On the pro level, you compete
until the match is done. |
It's something you need to acquaint yourselves with, since all wrestlers
compete this way. |
So when I tell you to spar like a real match, my intention is to start
getting you used to that. |
Think of this as a big step towards becoming pro!  Pay attention as you
spar!

YY & K:
Yes sir!

( Match 1: Yamashita vs. Sakagami )

( If Yamashita def. Sakagami )

Coach:
Well, now you two have really begun. |
It probably wasn't what you were expecting. |
It's almost time for the public sparring match.  You'll spar again then
just like this.  You two still have a number of flaws to work out, so spend
the rest of the day working on them so that maybe you won't have them next
time.

YY & K:
Yes sir!

YY:
Phew!

Koichi:
As usual, yet another tough evaluation from the coach.

YY:
Yeah, but...

(Dialogue Prompt 3)
(A. ...his opinion will change in time!)
       { OJP +1, USA +1 } { H +2, B +2 }
(B. ...it seemed like a good match to me.)
       { VJP +1, H +1, A +1, B +1 }
(C. ...it was a bit too harsh.)
       { IW +1, UWH +1 } { H -2, A +2, B -2 }

(Prompt 3, Response A)
Koichi:
So it doesn't bother you?  You must be used to it, which means you hear it
from him alot.

YY:
Very funny.

(End 3A)

(Prompt 3, Response B)
Koichi:
Yeah, I thought so too. |
But he was only being harsh because of judging at the pro level.

YY:
That's true.

(End 3B)

Koichi:
Heheheh. |
I may have lost this time, but next time I'll win.

YY:
Heh!  I'll just put you down again.

Koichi:
I'll remember that.

YY:
Well, time to work until we drop.

Koichi:
But... |
Didn't the coach say something about a public sparring match?

YY:
Now that you mention it, he did.  Who do you think will show up to it?

Koichi:
Student hopefuls, maybe?  They'll come to see our match to help them
decide whether or not to join.

YY:
That's probably it.

( Fade out )

[ But it would turn out to be quite different from what we were thinking.
Three days passed relatively uneventfully, until... ]

( Fade in, followed by sound of approaching car )

Koichi:
That's probably the coach pulling in now.

?:
Hey.  What's up?

YY & Koichi:
What?

[ We were more than a little surprised when we saw that Hurricane Rikimaru
 had shown up! ]

Rikimaru:
What's this?  Wakamoto hasn't shown up yet?

Masa:
We're a bit early, aren't we?

[ Behind him was Zombie Masa. ]

Koichi:
W-w-w-w-why are they here?

Rikimaru:
Ah.  Your class.  A demonstration from two of your class.

YY & Koichi:
What?!

Rikimaru:
Today's the public sparring match, right?

YY:
U, uh...

Coach:
Ah, you made it.

Rikimaru:
Hey.  Didn't you tell these two about this?

Coach:
I told them they were involved. |
I didn't tell them anything else or they might have worked
themselves up into a panic and chicken out.  So I only told them
that there was a public sparring match.

Rikimaru:
Haha... Harsh as ever.

[ Then the whole thing got bigger as more people showed up.] |
[ Tommy Bomber from Olive Japan, ] |
[ Rocky Tsuji from New IW, ] |
[ Blade Hayate from Yukiguni Pro, ] |
[ Akira Saeba from the UWH, ] |
[ and a reporter from the mass media all arrived. ] |
[ We felt sheepish as the look at us in askance and then turned their
 attention towards the ring. ]

Coach:
Get started you two.

YY:
..

Koichi:
..

Coach:
This is no time for this foolishness!  Everyone is watching!  You can
act like statues later! |
You two have made it this far through my regimen.  That says a lot.  Now
show them how you did it!  Now get going!

YY & Koichi:
Y-yes, sir!

Koichi:
Alright, let's go Yuji!

YY:
Yeah, we'll show them what we're made of!

( Match 2: Yamashita vs. Sakagami )

{ Note: It doesn't seem like it matters who wins. }

[ Our sparring match was over. ] |
[ Surely our match must have made some impression on the pro scouts. ]

Rikimaru:
Later, Wakamoto.  We're outta here.

YY:
Uh, what?

[ Everyone left in a hurry, which made Koichi and I very uneasy. ]

Koichi:
W-what?  Why did everyone leave so quickly?  Were we that bad?

YY:
I don't know...

Coach:
Relax. |
They didn't leave because they thought you were terrible.  They saw
that the match was over and they left. |

Koichi:
Man...

Coach:
They squeezed this into their schedules, and had to leave when it was
over.

YY:
Pretty impatient...

Coach:
Just keep that in mind.

Reporter:
Mr. Wakamoto, can I have an interview?

Coach:
About this organization?

Reporter:
This place cultivates talent with the potential to make it big. |
From this Wakamoto Dojo, a hopeful can expect to graduate in maybe seven
years?

Coach:
Eight years. |
A little extra time is needed to be safe.  Overstepping one's ability
early will lead to trouble in the long run.

Reporter:
I see.  Would you mind leaving me to myself for a while?

Coach:
.. Okay, fine.  I'll leave for a bit.

Reporter (to Koichi):
Can I be alone for a bit?

Koichi:
Ah, sure, fine with me.

Reporter:
This is sudden, but... |
Hmm... Yuji Yamashita isn't it?

YY:
Yes.

Reporter:
If you don't mind I have a question for you.  What made you decide to
become a wrestler?

YY:
Well, now...

(Dialogue Prompt 4)
(A. I wanted to be an admired, star wrestler. )
       { VJP +1, IW +1 } { H +1, A -1, B +1 }
(B. I wanted to become the strongest there is. )
       { UWH +1 } { H +3 }
(C. I liked everything about pro wrestling. )
       { OJP +1, USA +1 } { H +2, A +1, B +1 }

(Prompt 4, Choice A)
YY:
When I was a kid, I'd watch the famous wrestlers on TV and I
wanted to be just like them.

Reporter:
I see. |
It was you dream as a child to become a famous wrestler.

YY:
Right.

(End 4A)

(Prompt 4, Choice C)
YY:
I liked everything about pro wrestling.

Reporter:
I see. |
The simple appreciation of pro wrestling is what drew you to it.

YY:
Right.

(End 4C)

Reporter:
So, what do you think of pro wrestling itself?

YY:
Hmmm...

(Dialogue Prompt #5)
(A. An athletic pro sport. )
       { OJP +1 } { A -1, B +2 }
(B. An integrated hand-to-hand combat art. )
       { VJP +1, UWH +1 } { H +1, A +2 }
(C. Sports entertainment. )
       { IW +1, USA +1 } { H +2, A +1 }

(Prompt 5, Choice A)
YY:
The disciplined athlete giving his all in a challenging
match, that's what pro sports is all about, I think.

(End 5A)

(Prompt 5, Choice C)
YY:
Charming the audience, getting them to chant your name... a
great entertainer can achieve this.

(End 5C)

Reporter:
I see, I see.  Simply put, what is your mindset for
achieving your goals?

(Dialogue Prompt #6)
(A. Whatever happens, I will overcome it! )
       { OJP +1, IW +1 } { H +2, A +1 }
(B. I've got my sights set on the top! )
       { VJP +1 } { A +2, B -1 }
(C. Steadily, step by step, I'll make it! )
       { UWH +1, USA +1 } { H -1, A -1, B +1 }

(Prompt 6 does not appear to produce different dialogue with
different responses)

Reporter:
So your desire is to be the most recognized athlete in the
business.

YY:
Hm?

Reporter:
A little while ago it was said that it takes about 8 years
for someone to complete the regimen of the Wakamoto Dojo,
wasn't it? |
It must mean that Ittetsu is admitting praise of you. |
If people in general take that long, it means something that
you're already here as part of a demonstration in front of
scouts, doesn't it?

YY:
..

( Smack of the bamboo sword on the reporter )

Coach:
That's why I didn't want anyone to talk to the students!

Reporter:
I-I'm sorry...

Coach:
Honestly, you're annoyingly persistent.  If all you're going
to do is waste time with needless chatter then I don't want
you around here!

Reporter:
Okay, I'll leave...

Coach:
Sorry... Well, I do have hopes for you, and you better make
sure that you don't disgrace those hopes.

YY:
Yes, sir!

( Fade out )

[ That honest admission was unexpected. ] |
[ His harsh and demanding criticisms have pushed us up to our
 current level. ] |
[ For him to actually praise is amazing ... ]

( Prompt #7 )
( A. I'll live up to those expectations no matter what! )
       { OJP +1 } { H +1, A +1, B +1 }
( B. It's only fitting. )
       { VJP +1, IW +1 } { H -1, A +2, B -2 }
( C. It's probably best to keep it to myself. )
       { UWH +1, USA +1 } { H -2, A -1, B +2 }

( Prompt 7, Choice A )

[ I'll train harder than ever! ]
( End 7A )

( Prompt 7, Choice B )

[ It's probably because I've done my best up to this point.  He'll
really be impressed when I make it big, then. ]
( End 7B )

( Prompt 7, Choice C )

[ Seems like him saying far from good is actually good, then.
I'll take that compliment, and it's certainly encouraging. ]
( End 7C )

( Fade in )

[ It's been a week since the public sparring was held. ]

Coach:
The results of the public sparring will come to pass tomorrow.

YY:
..

Koichi:
..

Coach:
You two seem pretty nervous.  An organization's representative
will come to meet each of you.

YY & Koichi:
Really?!

Coach:
Mm.  But don't get overly relieved and happy.  I'll be the final
judge of your abilities and whether or not you'll meet with them. |
So tomorrow, you may be graduating from the dojo.

YY & Koichi:
What?!

Koichi:
Did you say graduating?

[ Koichi and I must have had weird looks on our faces, as the
 coach laughed. ]

Coach:
You should see yourselves.  You two held out pretty well, growing up
from being hatchlings.

YY & Koichi:
Someday you'll be standing amongst the top of the first rate
wrestlers. |
They'll say that Ittetsu Wakamoto made them who they are. |
You've endured a year of my strict training regimen.

[ The coach's words sounded cold, but the expression on his face was
mild, and was betraying what he was thinking. ] |
[ Koichi also got that impression.  At that moment we were getting a
 little choked up. ]

Coach:
But we're not done yet.  I'm going to give you your final exam.

[ What the coach said snapped us back to attention and we
 straightened ourselves. ]

YY:
Final Exam?

Coach:
Wakamoto Dojo Final Exam.  You will have a match with me!

Koichi:
Wrestling with the coach...

YY:
A match...

Coach:
Yes!  You must get past me.  Then you will truly be graduates!

YY & Koichi:
Yes, sir!

Coach:
Right.  I'll get ready for the match right now.  I'll wrestle
each of you in turn.

[ For the coach to wrestle both of us in turn while not being
an active wrestler for so long, it'll be surprising if he
has any energy left afterwards. ] |
[ I was going up against him first. ] |
[ During an American tour, he was in a feared team known as the
 Honda Brothers. ] |
[ Koichi and I were thinking the same thing.  An all or nothing
situation, and it was the moment of truth. ] |
[ I must win. ]

( Match #3: Yamashita vs. Wakamoto )
( If Yamashita def. Wakamoto )

[ The match is over. ] |
[ I won. ] |
[ And the coach... ] |
[ The reason for the match wasn't just whether we won or lost,
but the skills, the knowledge, and the heart we displayed. ] |
[ I felt that I had truly inherited his knowledge. ] |
[ The coach looked at me with the hint of a smile on his face. ] |

Coach:
Ha, ha.  Well, done, Yamashita.

YY:
Tha, Thank, you, very, much.

[ The coach told Koichi to give him ten minutes as he went off
 into another room. ] |
[ That's when I realized... ] |
[ Just now, that was the first time the coach used my name. ]

( Fade out )

[ I was exhausted that night. ] |
[ One of the organizations will come to make me an offer.
Tomorrow, my life in the Wakamoto Dojo will really be over. ] |
[ I wonder where I'll go from here... ] |
[ Then, the fateful morning arrived. ]

( Fade in )

Koichi:
Finally, eh?

YY:
Yeah, finally.

Koichi:
I wonder where I'll be called to.

( Car pulls in )

Koichi:
The coach.

Coach:
Hey, Yamashita.

YY:
Yes!

Coach:
You have a visitor.

{ At this point the representative that shows up depends on
your dialogue choices, and your wrestling style.  Except for
Junior Heavyweights, in which case I believe Blade Hayate
 will always show up. }

( Zombie Masa visit )
YY:
Zombie Masa! |
An offer from View Japan...?

Masa:
That's not it. |
You might not have heard, but I am VJP's overseas scout.

YY:
I see.

Masa:
I helped bring Star Saber and Flash Burton over here.

YY:
So, perhaps...?

Masa:
So, what do you think about going to America?

YY:
America...

Masa:
To be exact, the WWC in America.  Have you ever thought about
going to America?

YY:
No...

[ America?  This is certainly a bit confusing.  I've always
thought that I'd be wrestling in Japan. ] |
[ Still, this seems like a great opportunity. ]

YY:
I accept your offer!

Masa:
I see.  Right, I'll begin the preparations immediately.

[ And so my path to America was set. ]

( Screen transition to black )

[ As my contract was being made up, someone had come to talk
 to Koichi. ]

( Fade in )

Koichi:
Hey, you did it, huh?

YY:
So where are you headed?

Koichi:
Me?  I'm going to... |
View Japan.

YY:
Wow, nice going! |
VJP is a major promotion!

Koichi:
While you're in America, I'll make my way to the top of the
Japanese wrestling world!

YY:
Going to rise to the top just like that?

Koichi:
By my skill, I won't lose to anyone except maybe you!

( End Zombie Masa visit )

( Blade Hayate visit )

YY:
Blade Hayate!

Hayate:
Will you join our Lucha Libre organization?

YY:
Lucha Libre...

Hayate:
In Mexico, Lucha is in its pure form.  Here in Japan, we are trying to
faithfully recreate the style. |
Will you join us?

YY:
Yes, please allow me to join!

Hayate:
Wonderful!  Well, we'll begin right away.

YY:
Huh?

Hayate:
Come on, come on!

YY:
W-wait, I have a few things to wrap up here...

Hayate:
Hm?  Well, once you're done then.  I'll be at the Tokyo Metropolis
Hotel.

YY:
Okay.

[ And so I became a member of Yukiguni Pro. ]

( Akira Saeba visit )

YY:
Saeba!

{ Note: Akira Saeba speaks with what is known as a Kansai accent
for those of you who know about things like that.  For
those who don't, it's sort of like a regional accent, like
       America has in some states. }

Saeba:
It seems like you'd fit in my promotion's Ideal Fight.

YY:
UWH, The Ideal Fight...

Saeba:
How about it?

YY:
Yes, I'd be glad to join! |
The Ideal Fight, the strongest pro wrestling is something I'd like
to be a part of!

Saeba:
Right!  It's decided!

[ And that's how I became a part of the UWH promotion. ]

( End Akira Saeba visit )

( Screen transition to black )

[ As my contract was being made up, someone had come to talk
 to Koichi. ]

( Fade in )

Koichi:
Hey, you did it, huh?

YY:
So where are you headed?

Koichi:
Me?  I'm going to... |
America it looks like.

YY:
America?

Koichi:
Right. |
For the time being, I'll be going to the WWC.

YY:
I see.  So I won't be able to pin you if you're over there.

Koichi:
Well, that's why I'd have to come here to beat you. |
Once I've fufilled the American dream, I'll return.

YY:
Well you'll have to do your best so that comes true.

Koichi:
That's true...

( End Akira Saeba visit )

( Screen transition to black )

[ As my contract was being made up, someone had come to talk
 to Koichi. ]

( Fade in )

Koichi:
Hey, you did it, huh?

YY:
So where are you headed?

Koichi:
Me?  I'm going to... |
View Japan.

YY:
Wow, nice going! |
View Japan is a major promotion!

Koichi:
Heheh... does this mean I have a one step lead?

YY:
I was going to say that.

Koichi:
Heheh, it's fine though.

( End Hayate visit )

( Tommy Bomber visit )

YY:
Tommy Bomber!

Tommy:
So then, how about coming to work for Olive Japan?

YY:
Absolutely!  Please sign me up! |
It'll be an honor to start on King's Road!

Tommy:
Hahaha.  You're ambitious, Yuji.

YY:
Yes, I hope this will be a success!

[ And so, I was recruited into Olive Japan. ]

( Screen transition to black )

[ As my contract was being made up, someone had come to talk
 to Koichi. ]

( Fade in )

Koichi:
Hey, you did it, huh?

YY:
So where are you headed?

Koichi:
Me?  I'm going to... |
View Japan.

YY:
Wow, nice going! |
We're both going to major promotions!

Koichi:
We're on the verge of making the "Dream Match" come true.

( End Tommy Bomber visit )

YY:
All our hard work has paid off.

Koichi:
It sure has... |
But... now...

YY:
..

Coach:
What's wrong?  Have your preparations ended?

YY:
Coach... |
Getting to this point... I couldn't have done it without your
help!

Koichi:
Thank you very much!

Coach:
Hahaha... You did well, you two. |
That's why yesterday I told you that you'd gotten strong enough
to leave the nest. |
That strength will be important from here on.  You're taking
your first step alone on Fighting Road. |
It'll be something!  You'll enscribe your names in the history
of pro wrestling!  One by one you'll win the hearts of the
fans! |
When you're in the ring and the fans surround you, don't forget
what I've told you. |
That's all I have to say about that.

YY:
I won't forget what you've said.

Koichi:
I will remember.

Coach:
I'll be busy in my room reorganizing.  We part ways here. |
You're welcome to visit any time.

YY & Koichi:
Thank you very much!

[ As he walked away the coach raised a hand in response without
turning back, and then he was gone. ] |
[ We continued to bow in salute until he went into his room. ]

YY:
..

Koichi:
So...

YY:
Hm?

Koichi:
Now that I think about it, this means we'll be parting ways as
well.

YY:
That's true, we are about to go separate ways.

Koichi:
Someday... |
Someday, we'll both make it big, and we'll have a huge main event
match together. |
It will be the greatest event in the history of pro wrestling.

YY:
Ah... |
Someday, no doubt about it, we'll both hit it big, and we will
have the greatest match ever.

Koichi:
Yeah! |
Heh, before that, though, you're going to have to make it big.

YY:
I'm more worried about you!  By that time, I'll be so used to
that status that I might have to come down a bit for you!

Koichi:
Heheheh... well, this is it.

[ He offered his hand. ] |
[ I offered mine in return. ] |
[ And we raised each other's hand like two competitors with
mutual respect after a big match. ] |
[ Afterwards, we went on our way.  I gathered my baggage
 together and left. ]
[ I was excited. ]

B. America
 1. WWC

{ One thing to keep in mind is that the angles and gimmicks
parallel the real-life American promotions as they were
 back in the autumn of 1998 }

{ Start American path }
( Sound of plane landing )

[ This is the first time I've stepped foot on American soil. ] |
[ It was different from what I expected, but now that I'm here, I'm
ready to make it for sure! ] |
[ As I thought this, I lifted my eyes to take in the unfamiliar sky. ]

Masa:
Taking time to think about things is good, but could you hurry it up
a bit?

YY:
Ah!

[ I had forgotten that I came here with Masa. ]

YY:
Sorry about that...

Masa:
Well, you seem pretty excited.

YY:
In America, with your help, I'm sure to hit it big.

Masa:
Absolutely.  This is a good time.  In my time, in America, Japanese
wrestlers were usually portraying heels, or bad guys. |
In the minds of the fans, heels escape from the ring when things go
bad, and ask for mercy after taking a big manuever.  They surround
their enemies and make surprise attacks, then run away quickly.

YY:
S-sounds cowardly.

Masa:
Compare that to these days, where now a Japanese wrestler who wrestles
well and is recognized more for his ability can become a babyface,
which is the role of the good guy. |
Now, get ready to fulfill the "American Dream."

YY:
Right!

( Fade out, in )

Masa:
Hope it wasn't too much trouble for him to come.  Hello, we're here!

YY:
Hello!

Azteca:
Be right there!

YY:
Ah, you're...

Masa:
It's been a while!

Azteca:
Thanks for waiting, Masa.  Now is this the young talent you called me
about?

Masa:
This is him.

YY:
Hello, my name is Yuji Yamashita!  Nice to meet you!

Azteca:
My name is Musei, known as the Azteca Dragon.  I've taken a lot of
trouble to be here, so please make it worth it!

YY:
Yes, sir!

Azteca:
The sleeping quarters are upstairs, and over there is the bathroom.

YY:
Thank you!

[ And so I began my association with Musei's gym. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ From that point, Musei taught me things about America and
wrestling, and that's how things have progressed up to now. ] |
[ Finally, it was time for my WWC debut match. ]

Azteca:
Your debut match at last, hm?

YY:
Yes, thanks for all your help.

Azteca:
The impact of your entrance is important.  Once you get in the ring,
make an appeal to the fans.

YY:
Okay.

Azteca:
Your opponent, Kiryu, follows the fundamentals of a Japanese
heavyweight, but his speed and technique are exceptional. |
Don't take him lightly.

YY:
I understand.  Here I go!

( Match 4: Yuji Yamashita vs. Kiryu )
( If Yamashita def. Kiryu )

[ My debut match is over, and I returned to the waiting room. ]

Azteca:
Well done.

YY:
You thought so?

Masa:
You really pretty impressive in your debut.

YY:
Masa!  You made it!

Masa:
I figured I could at least stick around for your debut, couldn't I? |
I was late for my flight, so I decided to return and watch your match.

YY:
Thanks for coming!

Masa:
But it's too bad I didn't catch the whole thing, judging by the how
the crowd was reacting to the match.

YY:
Yes.

Reporter:
Excuse me! |
Can I get an interview?

YY:
Hey, you're that guy who was asking me questions back at the dojo!

Reporter:
You've got a good memory, don't you?  Well, how about an interview?

[ As he spoke he handed me his business card. ]

YY:
Nakaoka, is it?

Nakaoka:
Actually, I have a residence here in America. |
So then when I heard you were having your debut match today I came
to talk to you about it. |
So then, how was your American debut?

(Prompt 8 )
(A. At any rate, I was pretty tense. )
       { H +1, B +1 }
(B. I'll remember it as an impressive first step. )
       { H +1, A +1 }
(C. It helped me get settled in. )
       { H -2, B -1 }

(Prompt 8, Choice A)
YY:
It was what I expected a pro debut to be.  Nevertheless, I was
nervous. |
The atmosphere in the arena was totally different than what it is in
Japan.  The fans reach out to you if they admire you. |
From here on, I'll work to attain that.

(End 8A)

(Prompt 8, Choice C)
YY:
All of my worries and nervousness turned out just to be
overexcitement.  The match got me settled in. |
Seeing the reaction of the crowd makes me want to look into finding
out what they want to see.

(End 8C)

Nakaoka:
I see. |
In America, Japanese wrestlers have tended to end up portraying heels.
Along those lines, will you also portray a heel?

(Prompt 9)
(A. Being a heel is fine with me. )
       { A -1, B -1 }
(B. I'm going to be a babyface. )
       { A +1, B +1 }
(C. Either one is fine.  I just want to make it big. )
       { A +2 }

(Prompt 9, Choice B)
YY:
I think I'll go as a babyface. |
It'll be challenging, but worthwhile, don't you think?

(End 9B)

(Prompt 9, Choice C)
YY:
I think that will be determined by circumstances and also by the
fans... At any rate, I'd like to get up to the big dances, the main
events as soon as I can.

(End 9C)

Nakaoka:
Hoho... so have you taken a liking to American pro wrestling?

YY:
Yes.  I think it'll be good once I can blend it together with my own
Japanese-style skills.

Nakaoka:
Sounds good.  To be successful in America, a Japanese wrestler will
need to mesh well. |
Yes.  I think you'll be able to manage it.

YY:
You think so?

Nakaoka:
Keep at it, and you're sure to succeed.

YY:
I will!

( Fade out, in )

[ Today, I'm preparing for another match at the arena. ] |
[ What?  What's this? ]

YY:
Good morning!

Azteca:
Oh, have you heard?

YY:
Heard what?

Nakaoka:
That your opponent today will be Terry Nevero.

YY:
Terry Nevero?

Nakaoka:
He came in from VJP.  He was known there as the Black Kaiser.

YY:
Oh, okay.  I'll get to see what he looks like without a mask. |
Then, I'll be wrestling another Japanese Heavyweight-style wrestler?

Azteca:
He may be a heavyweight type wrestler, but he is very experienced.
Don't forget that.

YY:
Terry Nevero may be a veteran of the ring, but being a heavyweight
myself, I think I can match up well with him. |
He may underestimate me as just another "lumbering heavyweight" and
no trouble at all.

Nakaoka:
That's the spirit.  I'll be watching your struggle from the press
area.

Azteca:
Win or lose, be precise out there.

YY:
I will!

(Match 5: Yuji Yamashita vs. Terry Nevero )

[ I was training in the gym like any other day. ]

?:
Hey, aren't you...?

YY:
Ah...

[ It was the voice of none other than WAKA Yukiguni of the WFW. ]

WAKA:
You must be Yuji Yamashita, right?

YY:
I am.  And you're WAKA right?

WAKA:
Yeah.  Have you seen me here before?

YY:
I don't think so...

Azteca:
WAKA and I are sparring today.

YY:
Musei, you're never without your mask, are you?

WAKA:
What, you only now just realized this?

YY:
Is this okay, though?  You're from different promotions, and you're
training together...

Azteca:
During company time it would be an issue, but on our own time it's
not.

WAKA:
Whenever I have some free time I try to come here to do a little
sparring, which is why you might see me here.

YY:
Oh, I see.

WAKA:
To tell you the truth, though, today you're the reason I came by.

YY:
What?  Me?

WAKA:
What would you think about joining me in the WFW?

YY:
What?

Azteca:
Hey, now, going off on your own like that, you're going to get me
into big trouble with Masa!

WAKA:
Don't worry about it. |
With a little polish, he could really shine.  I'd love to get him
to join Seirentai EX by any means.

Azteca:
Oh, man...

WAKA:
Later, Yuji!  Think about it, won't you?

YY:
Sure...

( Fade out, in )

[ WAKA's offer once again has me at a crossroads.  After this match
I'll make my decision.  Who will my opponent be? ]

Azteca:
You've arrived at this point quickly...

YY:
Good luck!

Azteca:
Right, let's go!

( Match 6: Yuji Yamashita vs. Azteca Dragon )

{ At this point, YY will make a decision whether to go to the WFW,
or stay in the WWC.  If the Hotbloodedness and Ambition ratings
are both 5 or higher, then he decides to jump to the WFW.
 Otherwise, he stays in the WWC. The WFW path starts at B2. }

[ I've politely refused WAKA's invitation. ]

Azteca:
For now, it looks like you'll be with us for a while.

YY:
You think so?

Azteca:
Personally, wherever you go is fine with me, but you have Masa
and your agreement to consider.

YY:
That's right.  I owe it to Masa, but... |
There's also still a lot to learn here!

Azteca:
That's true. |
By the way, your opponent today is Syscos, right?

YY:
Yeah.  He looks a lot like Choshin Thunder Kaiser to me.

Azteca:
Hahaha.  Now that you mention it, he sort of does.  The class
of match seen here could have an affect on the company's
evaluation of you.

YY:
Yes, I'll do my best out there.

( Match 7: Yamashita vs. Syscos )

Azteca:
Starting today, he'll be staying here a while for training.

Handen:
I'm Yushiro Handen from View Japan.  Nice to meet you.

YY:
Likewise.  I'm Yuji Yamashita.

[ I wasn't used to seeing other competitors training here
and it turned out to be Handen. ]

Handen:
I've heard of you from Sakagami.

YY:
Sakagami... is he doing well?

Handen:
Yes, he is.  Being of about the same we have matches often.

YY:
Is that so...

[ I felt a bit bad.  He was in Japan and already in the
class of an accomplished wrestler. ] |
[ As for me... am I on the same path?  Would my ability be
 a match for his? ]

Azteca:
Well, well, so the report on his ability is that he's young
but still an equal.  I hope this exchange proves interesting.

Handen:
Right.  Let's make this successful!

YY:
Right.

( Fade out )

[ After our conversation we got down to training and sparring. ] |
[ I wanted to give the impression that I was also close to his
lever after the past year. ]

( Fade in )

Handen:
I didn't think my first match here would be against you.

YY:
Neither did I.
Altough it'll be interesting to see if I am in your class,
this won't be the most enjoyable way to find out. |
Let's go, all out!

Handen:
Time for talk is over.  Let's go!

( Match 8: Yamashita vs. Handen )

Handen:
I almost don't know where I am... I'm in America but it felt like
a battle in Japan.

YY:
Compared to Sakagami, how was it?

Handen:
Hard to say but it was the same kind of heated battle as the ones
I've had with him.

YY:
Really...

[ Coming here alone from Japan, worrying about communicating well,
hearing that put me at ease. ] |
[ If I just keep at it, someday when Sakagami and I meet, I'll be
more than a match for him... ]

( Fade out )

YY:
Ah, Musei.  Is it time?

Azteca:
Yes.  After my match it'll be your turn.

YY:
Well, my strength isn't quite where I want it to be but I'll be
ready for my next opponent.

Azteca:
Who is it?

YY:
Ritz Joweko.

Azteca:
Oh, him.  He's gotten very popular recently.

YY:
Seems that way.

Azteca:
Watch yourself.  When the tides turn against him, he loves to
use sneaky underhanded tactics.

YY:
Got it.  I'll look into what he does.

Azteca:
.. What does that mean?  Sounds like a turn.

YY:
You think so?  Hmmm... what do you mean?  I don't think I
fully understand what you said.

Azteca:
Hahaha, I see. |
Well here I go.  Good luck in your match.

YY:
Thanks!

( Match 9: Yamashita vs. Joweko )

{ The patch in WWC branches here.  If your Babyface rating
is 3 or higher, The Spike approaches you.  Otherwise, if
your Babyface rating is lower than 3, Axe Duggan will
 approach. B2a if Spike approaches. }

B1a. The Red FWO

?:
Hey!

[ Suddenly, a man with a large physique approached me, looking
like he was ready to fight... looked like he was calling for
 someone. ]

?:
Hey you!  Didn't you hear me?!

YY:
Eh?

Spike:
Didn't you hear my voice?

YY:
M, me?!

[ Spike was trying to get my attention... what did the promotion's
top start want with me? ]

Spike:
No one else around is there?
I came here to talk to you.

[ He grabbed me by the arm and pulled me into the Waiting Room. ]

( Transition )

[ He couldn't be dragging me in here for an ambush would he?  What
 did I do wrong? ]

YY:
What do you want with me?

Spike:
I don't know what you're so nervous but it's not bad so listen.

YY:
Eh?

Spike:
You know about the feud between the Red FWO and the Black FWO,
right?

YY:
Well, yes...

Spike:
Will you join the Red FWO?

YY:
Wha?!

Spike:
You're a diamond in the rough.  You're going to be a good fighter
with some experience and I'm going to see to it that you get there.

[ I couldn't believe that the top star actually paid attention to
my progress, and what's more scouting me out! ]

YY:
Really?! Me?  Are you sure I'm not the wrong one?

Spike:
Would I be here if I wasn't? |
Answer me, yes or no.

YY:
Yes!  Yes, yes!

Spike:
Is it common for Japanese to answer a question more than once?

YY:
Well, no, hahaha...

Spike:
Well, okay.  We'll have a quick meeting.

( Fade out, in )

[ I was standing behind the scenes, watching over things. ]

Spike:
Hey, Duggan!
Aren't you going to run away like you usually do?

Duggan:
I don't know what you're talking about, Spike.  I'm not running
away, brotha, I'm staying right here.

[ As he said that the other memebers of the Black FWO came out. ] |
[ Spike led the Red FWO in a counterattack but there were too many
 of them. ] |
[ Duggan raised his hands and I felt it was up to me to do
 something... ] |
[ Now! ] |
{ I flew out of the gate and ran in at full speed and nailed Duggan
 with all I had. ]

( Duggan gets nailed )

Duggan:
Woah!

[ I knocked him down and started stomping like crazy. ] |
[ The tides turned and the Red FWO began a comeback.  The Black
FWO turned tide and ran. ]

Spike:
Everyone, listen up.  From now on, he's one of us!

( Crowd cheers )

Spike:
His name is Yuji Yamashita, and we can depend on him.

[ As Spike said that everyone came and patted me on the back,
 appealing to the fans. ]

YY:
Black FWO!  I'm coming after you!

[ The crowd cheered.  At the time I didn't care how strong my
opponents were.  At that time I felt that with the fans behind
me, I could face anyone. ]

( Fade out, in )

Spike:
Well done!  This is the first blow.

[ However... ]

Duggan:
Hey, Spike!
You got lucky before but this time it won't happen again! |
And you rookie!  Trying to make a name for yourself over Duggan?
You're on borrowed time.  Get out here!

Spike:
Let's go, Yuji!

YY:
Right!

Spike:
Here we are!

Duggan:
Good.  I've got your opponents right here!

Burton:
Woooooooah!

[ It was Flash Burton and Small Steiner ]

( Match 10: Yamashita and Spike vs. Burton and Steiner )

Azteca:
I was totally surprised and amazed.

YY:
You and I both...

Azteca:
You've joined the Red FWO.  I really couldn't believe it. |
But now that it's happened, you need to become stronger.

YY:
You're right.  I'm going to do my best to do that.

( Fade out, in )

Budo:
Haaaaaaaaaaah!

[ My first opponent as a member of the Red FWO was The
 Greatest Budo. ] |
[ An alter ego of View Japan's Ken Goto, he acts as if he's
a totally different person when in this guise. ] |
[ He's unpredictable.  I'll have to be careful. ]

{ The Japanese characters amidst the paint are Wind and Water
 on his face, Fire, Earth and Heaven on his body. }

Budo:
Haaaah!  Fucking Red FWO!  Fucking Yamashita!

{ Note: That's what he says folks, and he says it in broken English
 spelled in Japanese characters used for foreign words. }

YY:
I'm not putting up with this!

( Match 11: Yamashita vs. The Greatest Budo )

[ After arriving at the arena, I began warming up in preparation
 for my next match. ]

Spike:
Ready?

YY:
All set!

Spike:
I see.  From your fight with Budo alone I see that you haven't
stopped showing the potential I've seen in you.

YY:
As your teamate or alone, whatever the case I'm giving my all!

Spike:
Right.  Your best is all I'm asking.

YY:
Today I have a singles match with Small. |
In Japan he was in a class by himself but in America he won't
have that to his advantage.

Spike:
Hahaha.  You're really going to enjoy this, aren't you?

YY:
No I'm not!  This is big.  I won't enjoy it!

Spike:
I think you're more than capable to face him.

( Match 12: Yamashita vs. Small Steiner )

Handen:
By the way... From VJP Kouno and Amamoto have come for a short
tour.

YY:
Really, now...

Handen:
They're here to have a match with the WWC tag team champions.

YY:
I see... I'll see what I can do to be there.

Handen:
Right.  It'd be an interesting match if you were involved.

YY:
Hmmmm... you think the company would count on me?

( Fade out, in )

Spike:
Hey, Yuji!
Today, I've got some big news.

YY:
Big news?

( Transition )

[ Spike's big news was... ]

( Transition )

Kouno:
We've gone to a lot of trouble to come here!  Ayy! |
We're going back with the belts!  Ayy!

Amamoto:
Yo, Yamashita!  Just what I expected of a friend of
that loser Sakagami.  Oh! |
We're going to do to you what we did to him!  Prepare
yourself!  Oh!

YY:
So you've come to America.  We'll take your challenge
and take those belts! |
You're going home without them!

Spike:
That's right.  We'll take this chance and without a
doubt get those belts!

YY:
OK!

( Match 13: Yamashita and Spike vs. Kouno and Amamoto )

[ We won but we were not yet the WWC tag team champions. ]

Spike:
Nice fight, Yuji!

YY:
Thanks, Spike.  I couldn't have done it without you!

[ Just as we were playing the crowd... ]

( Spike gets blindsided by Duggan )

YY:
Ah!

( Burton blindsides Yamashita )

Burton:
Wooooooooah!

Duggan:
Sorry to disappoint you, but you're not the champs. |
These belts belong to Duggan now.

[ Duggan hit us with a surprise attack and left with our
 tag belts. ] |
[ I slowly came to and saw that Spike was down. ]

YY:
Gah...

Duggan:
Hahahahah!

[ The Black FWO left with the belts. ]

( Fade out )

[ The theft of the tag belts brought the feud between
the Red FWO and the Black FWO to a boiling point. ] |
[ Not only was this a matter of our group, it was now
 personal. ]

( Transition )

[ I went into the ring and grabbed the mike. ]

YY:
Everyone, listen up!  You guys may have beat me down
but now I'm back!

[ I paused to play the crowd. ]

YY:
You're brave in numbers but you're all gutless!  Burton!
That includes you!

[ I was calling him out, making him look bad so that he'd
have to come out to save face. ]

Burton:
Hey Yuji!  Who you calling gutless!

YY:
That time you attacked from behind!  But now we're face
to face!

Burton:
Fine!  Now that I'm here I'll destroy you!

[ I wasn't sure what I was expecting to happen, but now
I got myself into this match with a formidable opponent. ]

( Match 14: Yamashita vs. Burton )

[ Spike and I were entering the ring as usual when the Black
 FWO confronted us. ]

Duggan:
Hey, Spike.  You guys think you're the champs?

[ As he said that he lifted a belt in the air. ]

Duggan:
Why don't we have ourselves a little match?

Spike:
Duggan!  You think just holding that belt makes you a
champion?

Duggan:
Oh, you didn't know?  The tag champions are me and Bight,
brotha.

Spike:
What?!

[ That's the kind of thing I've come to expect of Duggan. ]

Spike:
Fine.  We'll beat you and then there will be no doubt in
anyone's mind!

Duggan:
We're going to be the winners, brotha.

Spike:
We can do it, right Yuji?  We can beat him and Bight. |
Bight may be a giant, but we should be able to hold our
own against him.

YY:
OK, Spike!

( Match 15: Yamashita and Spike vs. Duggan and Bight )

( Post-match brawl )
( Duggan hits Yamashita )

YY:
Gah!

( Yamashita hits back )

Duggan:
Muh?!

( Duggan hits Yamashita )

YY:
Damn it!

( Yamashita again hits back )

Duggan:
Uwo?!

[ After the match Duggan and I would not stop fighting. ] |
[ We had to be pulled apart by our respective groups. ]

Spike:
Calm down, Yuji.

YY:
..

[ I was pulled away. ]

Duggan:
Hey, Yamashita!
You thought you could take on Duggan? |
On the next Pay Per View, you and I are going to have a
match, one-on-one!

YY:
..

( Transition )

[ Pay-per-views ( PPV ) are different from the regular
shows.  They are longer events and people pay to see
 them at home. ] |
[ So a PPV is a big deal.  Sort of like a match in the
 Nihon Bukodan Dome. ] |
[ And that big match will be a match with Duggan. ]

Spike:
Yuji.
What's wrong?

YY:
Nothing, just... |
Thinking about the big PPV match.  I was thinking that
I'd come a long way.

Spike:
Hahahaha... is that it.  But you've earned it with your
hard work.  You've always believed in yourself and by
that way of course you get results.

YY:
.. Right!

( Fade out, in )

Azteca:
Your entry into the Red FWO was surprising, but your match
with Duggan tops even that. |
You're on a totally different level than me now...

YY:
I couldn't have done anything without your help, Musei.
Please don't say things like that.

Azteca:
Really?  Hmmm... Well, that's what I thought. |
There's not much time before the event is there?  You should
get some sparring and practice in.

YY:
Thank you.

( Fade out )

[ With Musei as my coach, I prepared for the PPV. } |
[ Then... ]

( Fade in )

[ Duggan and I faced off. ]

YY:
..

Duggan:
So Masa's prospect gets this far, eh?

YY:
?!

Duggan:
You've grown up.  I'm glad to have you as an enemy.

YY:
..

[ At first I wasn't sure what to think.  There was
no laughter in his eyes. ]

Duggan:
In America we have our pro wrestling.  There are plenty of
gimmicks and storylines. |
It's been my lifeblood.  You've come in with the spirit of
Japan. |
I feel I owe Japan a debt of gratitude and in that way,
I've done what I can to make you a fighter in the spirit
of this area. |
Come at me with all you've got and I'll put every trick
in the book into the match.  After the battle we'll see
how you do.

YY:
Duggan.

[ He was more like the peson I saw on TV as a child,
 Superstar Axe Duggan. ]

[ He offered his hand and at that time I wasn't thinking
about the whole Red FWO-Black FWO affair. ] |
[ I was only thinking about what Duggan said. ]

YY:
Let's do this!

( Match 16: Yamashita vs. Duggan )

[ The match with the Superstar is over. ] |
[ However, that wasn't the end of it.  The members of
the Black FWO began to emerge. ]
</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
Burton:
Uwaaaaaaaah!

[ In return the Red FWO emerged and gathered around me. ]

Spike:
Everything alright Yuji?

YY:
Thanks, Spike.

[ But nothing happened.  Not like before. ] |
[ The members of the Black FWO and Red FWO shook hands. ] |
[ Then Spike and I were attacked. ]

Will:
Uwaaaaaah!

[ It was Will Goldbach that appeared. ] |
[ He has an undefeated streak of 160 matches. ] |
[ And he is the WWC World Heavyweight Champion. ] |
[ He chased off the newly reunited Black FWO. ]

Goldbach:
Uwaaaaaah!

[ Just as suddenly as he arrived and attacked, he left. ]

( Fade out, in )

Spike:
Sorry.  I didn't think that would happen.

{ Ed note: Big surprise there,'Spike.' }

[ Except for the two of us, the Red FWO and the Black
 FWO rejoined. ] |
[ As a result of the attack, Spike's head and legs were
injured.  He was going to be out of action for a while. ]

Spike:
I won't be able to back you up.  What's more our enemies have
increased in numbers.

YY:
Don't worry.  I'll be able to take them on.

Spike:
Is that so...

YY:
First, I'll deal with the traitors.

[ First beginning with Revin Gash.  I'll take him on
 one-on-one! ]

( Match 17: Yamashita vs. Gash )

[ The man who made the save during the FWO attack on Spike
 and myself, Will Goldbach. ]

Goldbach:
Uwaaaaaaaah!

[ He really seemed strong. ] |
[ But I... I wanted to challenge him! ] |
[ I gathered my strength and grabbed the mike. ]

YY:
Will Goldbach!  You and I, right now!

Goldbach:
..

[ Will Goldbach turned to look at me. ] |
[ We stared at each other for a while, then he beckoned
 me with his hand. ]

Duggan:
Now wait a minute, brotha! |
Who do you think this is?  This is the WWC World
Heavyweight Champion. |
If anyone gets a title shot, they to get past me.  You
are not getting that shot.

YY:
Fine!  You and I in a Number One Contender match!

Duggan:
Fine with me.  I'll put you down and take it, brotha!

( Fade out )

[ So to get to Goldbach I must fight Duggan. ]

( Match 18: Yamashita vs. Duggan )

Spike:
You did it.  Now you get a title shot.

YY:
I've really come a long way...

Spike:
This match with GG Gigas before the one with Goldbach.
Is this okay?

YY:
I think so.  I'm going to take the match.

Spike:
So you have a plan of attach?

YY:
If I can keep him off his feet he won't be able to do
his attacks!

[ Match 19: Yamashita vs. Gigas ]

Azteca:
Well then, you ready?

YY:
Yeah.  I feel I'm on top of my game.

Azteca:
I see... Now it's time for your first challenge for
your first major title!

YY:
Right!

( Transition )

Goldbach:
..

YY:
..

[ We stared at each other for quite a while. ] |
[ If I could keep his shoulders down for the three count,
I will be the champion! ]

YY:
Let's go!

( Match 20: Yamashita vs. Goldbach )

[ I won.  He was said to be invincible but when the time
came I was able to win. ] |
[ The fans accepted me, a Japanese wrestler, and cheered
 loudly. ] |
[ I was more than happy with the win.  Being accepted and
successful here in America was important to me. ]

Goldbach:
You're really strong.  I may have lost but I'm glad that
I've got a great rival to compete with. |
I look forward to more hard fights with you!

YY:
Yeah, I feel the same way!

[ We shook hands and he left. ] |
[ And then, the WWC World Heavyweight Championship Belt was
 presented. ]

( Fade out, in )

Masa:
Well then, how about it?

YY:
..

[ I never imagined how well things would turn out. ]

Masa:
Hey, what's wrong?  Second thoughts?

YY:
Of course not!  Please, by all means!

Masa:
I see.  Well, let's set it up. |
The next event at the Dome, you and Sakagami will have a
match.

YY:
Yes!

[ VJP has invited the WWC to participate.  I was going to
 represent the WWC. ] |
[ Masa was making the necessary preparations as usual.  I
was returning to my homeland. ] |
[ The press ran details of the backstory of Sakagami and
myself, as well as our history and played it up to our
 big match. ] |
[ I had no doubt that it was Nakaoka who broke the story.
He was there back then. ] |
[ That and our achievements were used to hype up the match. ]

Masa:
Well then, I leave it to you.

YY:
Yes

Masa:
I also am eager to see this match come about.  Please provide
a fantastic match!

YY:
Yes!!

( Fade out, in )

Koichi:
..

YY:
..

Koichi:
You look totally different.

YY:
You too.  I didn't recognize you at first.

Koichi:
Heheheh...
Same here, I almost didn't recognize you.

YY:
Yes.  In this very arena, amidst the 60,000 fans,
our dream is being realized.

Koichi:
We can't get too caught up in the moment, though.

YY:
True.  There will be time for that later.  Give me
120%!  Fight me with all your might!

Koichi:
Right.  Let's go!

( Match 21: Yamashita vs. Sakagami )

[ The cheers of the fans were non-stop.  The capacity
crowd shook the arena with their applause in
appreciation of the very core of pro wrestling that
 they witnessed. ]

Koichi:
I lost.  You were really strong.

YY:
It's okay. |
But it was close.  I wasn't sure how it was going to go.  "This
three-count bout will be fun" is what I originally thought, but I
really had no idea.

Koichi:
Well said. |
But this means I've officially got one loss against you.  I'll have to
quickly even things up or I'll feel weak.

YY:
Haha, I see.  But then that will be two losses for you as I'll be
getting stronger in the meantime as well!

Koichi:
Alright then.  I'll get even strong and you may say "I'll win again"
but if you start being to sure in that you'll start to lose!

YY:
Well.  Oh yeah.  Next time, why not come to America?  We'll have
another match for the American fans.  I'm sure they'll enjoy it!

Koichi:
I see.  Sounds good.  Right, we'll do that someday soon.

YY:
Yeah!

[ The cheers of the fans lasted long after even when the two of us
 left. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ Our match that day was incredibly well-received.  It was widely
considered Best Match of the Year. ]

( Fade in )

YY:
Get out here Duggan!  We're going to decide this right now!

[ Spike, Goldbach and I joined forces as a team to face them.
 The FWO emerged. ]

Duggan:
You've got guts, Yamashita.  But you think that you three are enough
to stop the FWO?

YY:
Now that you mention it, it's not just us three.

( Duggan gets hit )

YY:
Everyone, meet my strongest rival.  Koichi Sakagami.

[ Soon after our match, Sakagami decided to stay with the WWC for
 a while. ] |
[ I was hapy to introduce him to his first WWC match,  I wanted to
tag up with him. ] |
[ We were in agreement that we were unstoppable. ] |
[ After his tour ended and he returned to Japan, I went to tour
there, and we were an incredible force there as well.  A
 legendary tag team. ]

Koichi:
Yuji, here they come!  The FWO!

YY:
Right.  Let's go Koichi!

Koichi:
Got it!

[ And the curtain was raised on our new battle. ]

[ End of America - WWC path ]

B2. WFW

( If YY decides to make the jump to the WFW from WWC after his
 match with Azteca Dragon )

[ I've decided to take WAKA up on his offer. ] |
[ Between the two, the WFW has built up overwhelming momentum, and I
can picture myself amidst the glamor and the appeal. ] |
[ However, considering what Musei and Masa have done for me, the
 decision pains me. ]

YY:
And that's why.  I'm very sorry.

Masa:
I'm disappointed that we're losing you, and the promotion is in a
quandry about it, from what the president of the organization said.

Azteca:
Is this really alright?

Masa:
It should be fine.  I'll get View Japan to be his backup just in case.

YY:
I understand.

Masa:
Once you leave, you'll be on your own.  Are you absolutely sure of
yourself?

YY:
I am!

Masa:
I understand.  Then there's nothing else to say.

[ As he said that, he offered his hand to me. ]

Masa:
Good luck.

[ I gave mine in return and we shook hands. ]

YY:
Thank you very much!

Masa:
Keep my motto in mind, as I think it applies. |
When all else fails, go for broke!  That is the spirit of America.
Remember that.

YY:
I will!

Masa:
Take care.

Azteca:
I'm glad.  I'm happy for you.

YY:
Yes.

Azteca:
Well, the doors of my gym are always open to you.  It doesn't matter
which promotion you belong to, we're all the same in here.

YY:
Thank you very much!

( Fade out )

WAKA:
Boss, this is the one I told you about.  Yuji Yamashita.

Dick:
Hm.  I'm the owner of the WFW, Dick K. Cochracon Jr.

{ Note:  Those of you who can read katakana will notice that I
changed the romanization from 'Dink' to 'Dick.'  Dink just seemed too
 awkward to me. }

YY:
Pleased to meet you.  I'm Yuji Yamashita.

Dick:
Take off your shirt.

YY:
Hm?

Dick:
Whatever, just get on with it.  I need to see what kind of shape
you're in.

[ I was taken aback by his straightforwardness, but I did what he
 asked. ]

Dick:
Hm.  First he'll need to bulk up a bit.  I've only seen videos of him
so far, so I'll also need to see him in a real match so I can get a
sense of his abilities. |
I've got it... WAKA why don't you have a match with him?

WAKA:
Ok, boss.

Dick:
After which, I'll let you know what I think.

( Fade in, out )

WAKA:
Alright, don't hold back!  My physique might not seem like much but
I'll give you all the fight you can handle!

YY:
Alright, no holding back!

( Match 7: Yuji Yamashita vs. WAKA Yukiguni )
( If YY wins )

Dick:
Well... My honest opinion is that he gets a passing grade, and there
is something interesting about him that I can't put into words.
That being said, I object to him joining Seirentai EX.

WAKA:
Why is that?

Dick:
Yuji is a heavyweight, and therefore doesn't match well with
Seirentai's image. |
Which is why I'm going to make arrangements to have a gimmick made
for him.

WAKA:
Ack...

Dick:
The creative team will work on it, and in two weeks time, we'll have
it ready for your first match, where we'll brief you.

YY:
I understand.

( Fade out, in )

WAKA:
I wonder what your gimmick will end up being?

YY:
I hope it isn't too weird.

WAKA & YY:
Good morning!

Dick:
Sorry to keep you waiting.  Yuji, your gimmick has been decided.

YY:
O-okay!

Dick:
You're going to be a UFC-style fighter from Japan.

[ The role didn't seem too bad to me. ]

Dick:
Kain Harlock is the reason you've come to the WFW.

YY:
Okay.

Dick:
You want to fight him most of all. |
However!  The WFW is run by heels and says "The audience might as
well forget it, because we won't sanction it!"

YY:
Do you want me to fight exactly like a UFC fighter, or simply
wrestle?

Dick:
Here is what I have to say about that.  In the WFW, the most
important thing is that the fans accept what they see, whether it be
a match or a gimmick. |
If the audience doesn't go along with something, we stop using it.  We
watch for what does and doesn't work for getting someone over.

YY:
I see.

Dick:
Also, be alert as to where the arena's cameras are. |
The fans in the arena doesn't comprise all of our audience.  There
are millions of viewers out there watching on television as well.

YY:
..

[ I felt my heart leap to my throat.  I realized that I hadn't thought
 about the cameras before. ]

Dick:
And today, your opponent will be Silvergust. |
Give it your all.

WAKA:
Hey, hey, you okay?  You look totally overwhelmed.

YY:
I won't be able to keep track of the cameras... I hadn't even thought
about it until now.

WAKA:
American and Japanese broadcasts have cameras in generally the same
places.  Anyway, this is going to be your first time out there, so
don't worry too much about it.  Just keep it in mind for the future.

YY:
Well, okay...

WAKA:
He said your opponent was Silvergust, right? |
Take care that he doesn't crush your balls.

YY:
My balls?!

( Match 8: YY vs. Silvergust )
( If YY wins )

WAKA:
Your first match went well, didn't it?

YY:
You thought so?  I did my best, but I don't think I came across well
with my accent.

WAKA:
I guess...

?:
It's been a while!

YY:
Eh?

Nakaoka:
Ah, and you too WAKA!

WAKA:
Well if it isn't Nakaoka.  I haven't seen you in a long time.

YY:
It has been a while.

Nakaoka:
I was surprised!  I didn't think that you'd switch to the WFW.

WAKA:
I invited him to join me, and so he came over.

Nakaoka:
Well then, what do you think of the WFW?

YY:
Well... It's been one surprise after another.  From the vast
audience, to handling speaking on the mic, and amidst the
nervousness, I hope I can fit in.  It's the "world leader" after
all, isn't it?

Nakaoka:
I see, I see.

YY:
I understand that we must continue to win the battle for ratings
on Monday nights.

Nakaoka:
That's true.  Did the WFW's success in this battle influence your
decision?

YY:
I'd say so.  I want to hit it big, and here one can truly become a
superstar.

Nakaoka:
I see.

?:
Hey!  You're that Japanese newcomer, aren't ya?

YY:
Ah!  Steel Gold Steam Odin!

[ He's the WFW's biggest superstar.  He and the owner, Dick Cochracon
Jr.  are always clashing. ] |
[ He would never give into the owner and would beat on him with no
mercy.  He even pretended to be a "salary man" at one point to get
 at him. ]

Odin:
I saw your match, son.  I thought you fought pretty good.

YY:
Thanks!

Odin:
Well, later.  Keep it up and you'll probably get pretty far.

YY:
I will!

[ He gave me a wry grin. ]

Odin:
Shu, shu!

[ He did a karate pose like Danger K with a few fake attacks, then
 he left. ]

YY:
What was with the karate pose?

WAKA:
No doubt Steel Gold had a Japanese opponent that used something like
it.

YY:
Is that so?

WAKA:
He's done that with me too.

YY:
So a Japanese person instantly has an image as a karate expert?

WAKA:
Yep.

YY:
..

Nakaoka:
Oh yes, I forgot.  Have they told you today that your opponent is
Bit Bahn?

YY:
Ah, I saw that.

Nakaoka:
Did you know that he got a KO over Steel James in a boxing match?

YY:
It'll be an interesting challenge!  I'm definitely looking forward to
the match.

Nakaoka:
Hahaha... you're always talking big, with bravado.

WAKA:
It's time.

Nakaoka:
Well do your best!  I'm rooting for you!

YY:
Okay!

( Match 9: Yuji Yamashita vs. Bit Bahn)
( If YY wins )

Dick:
You're getting quite a following.

YY:
Eh?

Dick:
You've gotten over with the fans pretty well.  Probably because you
seem like a good match for Harlock and his grappling style.

YY:
Really?

Dick:
No joke.  From here, you'll be fighting Harlock and Dadan each. |
Here's the booking for this side story.  Look it over well.

YY:
Yes, sir!

( Fade out, in )

[ And so the plan was to have a Gruesome Fight challenge match
 after this one. ]
[ I'll have to watch out for stretch attacks during these matches. ]

( Match 10 : Yuji Yamashita vs. Dan Dadan )
( If YY wins )

YY:
I've been waiting for this moment.  You've been ducking me, haven't
you!

Harlock:
Hey!  What a coincidence!  That's exactly what I thought about you.
Why don't you step over here?  I've got a challenge for you.

YY:
Why not right here, right now?

Harlock:
No.  This is my match, my rules and since they won't allow it in the
ring, I'm challenging you to a Tiger's Den match!

[ The Tiger's Den is another name Harlock is using for the cage used
 in Gruesome Matches. ] |
[ The desire for a Tiger's Den match means he's aiming for Gruesome
 style fighting. ]

YY:
Let's do it!

[ We both got into the octagon surrounded by chain links and we
 turned towards each other. ]

( Match 11: Yuji Yamashita vs. Kain Harlock )
( If YY wins )

WAKA:
That fight with Harlock... you're really soaring to the top!

YY:
Not yet, I still have a ways to go.  There's still a chance of
stumbling so I can't let up!

WAKA:
Oh-ho, you're psyched.  So who's it going it going to be today?

YY:
You bet I am.  Today, I go up against Steel James.

WAKA:
Don't you think you might be biting off more than you can chew?

YY:
I saw that he was only just restored.  He can't be at 100%. I'm
disappointed. |
But it's his decision.  It'll still be tough.

WAKA:
Right.

(Screen Transition)

James:
If you're from Japan, then have you seen me in action?  How stiff do
you want to go?

YY:
Of course I've seen you!  It's an honor to be having a match with
you.  Give it all you've got!

James:
Hahaha!  Good, good.  I like your answer!

( Match 12: Yuji Yamashita vs. Steel James )
( If YY wins )

[ My match is next, and I'm preparing in the waiting room. ]

?:
Hey!

{ At this point, either Harlock or James approaches you.  Harlock
will approach you if any of the following types are your wrestler's
most used then Harlock approaches: Shoot Strike, Strike, Stretch,
Submission, Rough, Performance.  Otherwise, Steel James will
 approach you. }

Harlock:
Nice fight, Yuji.

YY:
Thanks...

Harlock:
To be honest, I came to talk to you.

YY:
Talk to me?

Harlock:
I've been impressed by how you're handling your work as a mainstay
of the company.  Think I could be as successful if I went all out?

YY:
Maybe.

Harlock:
Hahaha, thanks.  I've seen you work hard since you've gotten here
and how it's paid off.  With that drive in mind, I think I may
have a match that might result in good things.

YY:
A match the results in good things?

Harlock:
With the Road Blasters.

YY:
I see!  Perhaps by defeating them in a no nonsense manner, going all
out, the fans would find it appealing.

Harlock:
Sounds good.  So then, shall we give it a shot?

YY:
Give it a shot?

Harlock:
Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you? |
I can't exactly go up against them by myself, can I?  I'm asking
you to be my partner.

YY:
Partner... hmm...

Harlock:
Right.  So what do you say?

YY:
..

Harlock:
What's wrong?

YY:
Nothing, just lost in thought. |
Let's do it!

Harlock:
Okay.  See you after I let the owner know about it.

YY:
Right!

( Fade out )

[ I've seen the Road Blasters on TV when I was a kid, and now I'm
going to have a match with them. ]

( Fade in )

Harlock:
Right!  Those guys will probably go after you first.  Watch out
for being hoised onto their shoulders.

YY:
Okay!

( Match 13: Yuji Yamashita and Kain Harlock vs. The Road Blasters )
( If YY and Harlock win )

WAKA:
That was great, your match with the Road Blasters.

YY:
I expected it to be tough from the outset, but their strength was
tremendous, and their power was impressive.

WAKA:
Heh... |
But now, maybe after that match, you and Harlock's status has
improved.

YY:
Could be.  Once I got to know him, he's not a bad guy.

YY:
Ah, thanks.

Harlock:
Thank you, Yuji.  Thanks to you, my opportunies have improved
quite a bit.

YY:
Not a problem!  After all, our other match helped me much the same way.

Harlock:
True, true.  They're giving me a new angle by putting me in Team
Company.

YY:
Team Company?  Isn't that the top heel group?

Harlock:
You're right.  I guess, though, that it means we won't be able to team
up anymore since we'll be on different sides.

YY:
True.  Our tag match was fun, and if we should do it again
if we ever get the chance.

Harlock:
Okay, it's a promise.

YY:
Right!

[ After we shook hands, Harlock left. ]

WAKA:
I see now.  The match was to help Harlock become a main eventer.

YY:
That was it.

WAKA:
So who do you fight today?

YY:
Mein.

WAKA:
Aah... Mein you say?  He was the WFW Heavyweight Champion at one
point. |
Looks like you're becoming a main eventer as well.

YY:
Seems like it.  However, I'm not at the peak just yet, so I'm still
going to go all out!

( Match 14: Yuji Yamashita vs. Mein )
( If YY wins )

[ After the match, Team Company came out one by one. ]

YY:
Harlock!  You traitor!

[ As expected, a storyline between myself and Harlock has
 begun. ]

Harlock:
You got it all wrong.  I didn't betray you.  I'm just being paid
very well to be here, that's all. |
Team Company is great, and I'm no fool.

YY:
Team Company?  You're buying into that shit?

{ Note:  That wasn't something I put in there to make it seem like
a broadcast from the show of the real-life counterpart.  He uses
a swear word, and that's the closest English equivalent.  Blame
 Human for making it seem more like the real life show. ;) }

?:
No, no, no, no.  It's useless, Yamashita.

Dick:
Harlock has made the right choice.

YY:
Sure, if he wants to be your little lapdog!

[ The crowd began chanting insults at Dick, and he gave a scowling
look as he slowly looked back and forth at the crowd. ]

Dick:
You can talk to him all you want, but you see, he knows exactly
where he stands. |
Harlock, you know what to do.

Harlock:
Right, boss.

( Match 15: Yuji Yamashita vs. Kain Harlock )
( If YY wins )

Dink:
You did very well with that.

YY:
Thank you very much.

Dick:
In case you haven't heard, Cole Bight has come to our promotion from
the WWC.

YY:
Ah, he's that giant, isn't he?

Dick:
Hahaha... you know your stuff.  To make a big impact for his debut,
we're going to make him a member of Team Company.

YY:
Ah... will I be feuding with him as well?

Dick:
Good guess.  You're getting a really good sense of the business.
You'll start out with a singles match.

YY:
I understand.

( Fade out )

[ It should be a good match with that giant of a man.  Facing an
opponent of that size though made me worry. ] |
[ I spent most of the day worrying up to the time of the match. ]

( Match 16: Yuji Yamashita vs. Cole Bight )
( If YY wins.)

[ It was just as I entered the arena. ]

Odin:
Shu, shu!

[ Once again with the karate pose, it was Steel Gold Steam Odin that
 greeted me. ]

YY:
Morning!

Odin:
Welcome to the big time, son.  Looks like you're a main eventer now.

YY:
Thanks...

Odin:
Gonna be a tag match shodown with Lock today?

YY:
Yeah.  Don Hound is going to be my partner against Lock and Bight. |
It's not quite a main event though.  Was there something you wanted
to tell me?

Odin:
Yeah.  Watch out for the neck.

YY:
The neck?

Odin:
Pain in the ass, isn't it?  I make sure to remind wrestlers who become
main event material in case I face them.

YY:
I see...

[ My jaw dropped as I realized what he was implying. ]

( Match 17: Yuji Yamashita and Don Hound vs. Lock Reipia and Cole Bight )
( IT DOESN'T MATTER if YY and Don Hound win )

Dick:
Now you've done it.

[ The owner seemed angry. ]

YY:
I'm sorry...

[ During our tag match, I got a bit carried away, and one of my
manuevers wasn't sufficiently held back.  It hit too hard, and Lock
 lost consciousness. ]

Dick:
Overeagerness is not a good excuse.  Granted, it was a free-for-all at
the time, but you still should have been more mindful.  Instead, what
happened to Lock happened.

YY:
How is he?

Dick:
Truth be told, only his pride was hurt. |
Afterwards, he insisted on challenging you to a match with his belt
on the line.

YY:
Really?

Dick:
Don't you look happy?  It won't be a title match, though.

YY:
Eh?

Dick:
There's a big title match already scheduled between Odin and Lock.
Our biggest event has it as the main event.  The fans have been calling
for it and we've been building up to it.  It can't change. |
Now is not the time.  Take what just happened for example.

YY:
..

Dick:
That's why we'll start by making it seem like a title match, but then
I'll say that because of that unfortunate incident, I'm going to make a
change.  So then it'll be?

YY:
.. a non-title match.

Dick:
Don't you seem depressed?  Just keep at it and you'll get your shot as
well.  And it's not because of what just happened that you're not
getting it now. |
It's all about timing.  A wreslter's selling is all about timing.  The
presentation of an event is all about timing. |
Getting a grasp of such timing is very important.  To a greater extent,
a sense of timing is vital to one's way of life.

YY:
..

[ I didn't say anything, but I realized what he was saying. ]

Dink:
Do you understand?

YY:
Yes.

Dick:
Alright.  Then it's going to be a non-title match between you and Lock.

( Fade out )

[ I was depressed and angry at myself after our conversation, but I
 wouldn't acknowledge it. ] |
[ Towards that end, winning was my first goal, and I wouldn't let
anything get in my way. ]
[ I directed my renewed spirits towards a victory over Lock. ]

( Match 18: Yuji Yamashita vs. Lock Reipia )

[ It was right after my match with Lock. ] |
[ The lights of the area went out and it was pitch black.  Then a
wrestler's theme music began to play. ] |
[ That theme music ... ]

YY:
Woah!

[ After the music finished and the lights returned, The Underground
was standing right before my eyes. ]

Underground:
.. You will be the next member of the Dark Disciples ...

[ By that he means he wants me to join his group. ]

YY:
You've got to be joking!  To think that I...

( Beatdown ensues. )

[ While I was giving my reply, the members of the Dark Disciples
attacked me from behind. ] |

( Fade to black )

[ My eyes closed as I blacked out from the vicious beating at the hands
of the Dark Disciples. ] |
[ It was the price paid for the first person to refuse to join him. ]

( Fade in )

YY:
Hey!  Underground! |
You and me, right now!  If I lose, I'll join your Disciples.  However!
If I win you'll keep out of my business! |
Well!  How about it?

[ Once again his music played, and he emerged and approached. ]

Underground:
.. Fine ... Your challenge ... It is accepted ...

[ So then it was to be a match between myself and The Underground,
 one-on-one. ]

( Match 19: Yuji Yamashita vs. The Underground )
( If YY wins )

[ I defeated the Undergroud. ] |
[ But I was not to be left alone. ] |
[ He broke the deal. ]

( Beatdown again. )
( Fade out )

[ And eventually the Dark Disciples descended upon me for another
assault, forcing the garb the wear upon me. ]
[ It was terrible. ]

( Fade in )

Dick:
So then, a Dark Disciple brainwash, and you become a member.

YY:
Brainwash you say...

[ Their brainwashing involves an evil looking ritual upon which I
 would be taken... ]
[ Dick knew what I was thinking. ]

Dick:
We're going to film it ahead of time.

YY:
Just as I thought...

[ So I was going to be made a member. ]

Dick:
It won't the only thing.  The Underground will give you an order to
attack Odin.

YY:
What?!  One-on-one?

Dick:
That's right.  So it won't be all bad.

YY:
Hm... so now what?

( Fade out, in )

YY:
Odin ... I am to deliver you to The Undergroud ...

Odin:
That just ain't gonna happen.  Why? |
Because Steel Gold said so!

( Match 20: Yuji Yamashita vs. Steam Odin )
( It doesn't seem to matter if you win or lose )

Dick:
Have you heard of Will Goldbach of the WWC?

YY:
Yes, I know of him.  He has a 160-match win streak right?  His
catchphrase is "Who's Next?"

Dick:
Right, that's correct.  You do know about him.

YY:
What about him?  Is he coming to this promotion?

Dick:
Are you kidding?  That guy made a public challenge to Odin.

YY:
A challenge?!

Dick:
Right.  And for it to take place in a WWC ring. |
I think they're doing it because they're losing the battle for
ratings.

YY:
So what will be done about it?

Dick:
That's the problem.  They really want Odin.

YY:
Maybe I could call him out, then?

Dick:
Oh, ho!  You think he'll go for it?

YY:
Only one way to find out...

Dick:
So if he can beat you, then he gets to fight Odin.

YY:
So I'll go to fight him in WWC territory.  So if I lose, would he
fight Odin?

[ Dick looked at me fiercely. ]

Dick:
What are you, a mind reader?

YY:
No, just that I want to know what would happen.  My credibility would
be destroyed, wouldn't it?

Dick:
Right.  Your best option at that point would be retirement into a desk
job.

YY:
Besides the money, will I be getting anything for going?

Dick:
Yes.  But for now forget about that and concentrate on the match. |
If you beat him, I'll give you a world title match.

YY:
Really?

Dick:
A reward equal to the risk, wouldn't you say?

YY:
Yes!  That's what I've been hoping for! |
Actually, there is one other thing...

Dick:
Yes?

YY:
Can I leave the Dark Disciples?

Dick:
No problem.  We'll have you leave that group next week.

YY:
Ah, okay.

[ What a strange conversation. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ And so, both organizations worked out the meeting.  Dick's thoughts
and feelings were passed on. ]

Will:
Woooooooooooooah! |
I'll put you down!  I'll put Odin down!  Who's the strongest wreslter
in the US, no the world?  Watch the proof!

YY:
You're certainly the loudest.  But without a doubt, I will return
victorious.

( Match 21: Yuji Yamashita vs. Will Goldbach )
( If YY wins )

[ I did what I set out to do.  At the same time, I put an end to Will
 Goldbach's win streak. ] |
[ The loud cheers broke out... the fans of WWC were acknowledging my
 achievement here. ] |
[ When I thought about the significance of both achievements I gave
out a loud yell to the sky. ]

YY:
Wooooooooooooooooah!

( Fade out, in )

[ And now, I'm getting into the ring for my title match. ] |
[ The Goldbach match was my big break. ] |
[ And now, my challege for the WFW World Title is set. ]
[ My opponent.. ] |
[ The man who beat Lock for the championship, Steel Gold Steam Odin. ]
[ For a match between two wrestlers of our caliber, the tickets were
bought up at an amazing rate and the fans were pushing to get into
the arena in anticipation for this moment. ]

Odin:
Well, you finally made it big just like you always wanted to.

YY:
I'm amazed, but still, without a doubt I'm going to win.

[ And so I did. ] |
[ And thus my own dream came true. ] |
[ And as for the dream my friend and I share ... ] |
[ Expect me soon, Koichi.  The World Title is in my hands... ]

[ End of America - WFW path ]

C. Junior Heavyweights

[ Yukiguni Prowrestling. ]
[ The organization's goal is to recapture the spirit of Lucha Libre.
 here in Japan. ]
[ However, in recent years it has been on the brink of folding, and
they've made alliances with more violent promotions to get the
prowrestling fans to continue to come. ]

( Fade in )

YY:
Excuse me.

?:
Oh, you're here.

YY:
Good morning!

Hayate:
Ah, morning.  Please excuse the place.

YY:
Yes.

Hayate:
Well then, are you ready?

YY:
I'm always ready!

Hayate:
I see, I see. |
Well, I think we'll get you going on your debut.

YY:
Really?!

Hayate:
Of course, really. |
When we put together our next series, we'll put you in.  We'll get to
work on it.

YY:
Yes, sir!

[ And then the next series started... ]

( Fade out, in )

[ I'm waiting for my debut match. ] |
[ While I consider that, I also help in getting the place prepared. ]

?:
Oh, Yuji!

Dolphin:
Waiting for your debut?

YY:
Yes, I am!

Dolphin:
I see, good.  Well, do your best and certainly you'll achieve all of
your goals.

YY:
I will.
I'll do my best to quickly get a grasp of my ability in the ring once
I get started shortly.
Dolphin:
Keep your spirits up!

YY:
I will!

?:
Hey, Yuji!

YY:
Ah, Mr. Wakabe!

Bat:
Good luck on your debut.

YY:
Thanks!

Bat:
You may be nervous but once you get out there take care.  It's easy
to forget yourself and do something that'll result in injury.

YY:
True.  I'll be careful.

Bat:
I will be the referee for your match.

YY:
Really?!

Bat:
I'm usually pretty strict but I'll secretly share this bit of advice
with you.  When you get really nervous, take a deep breath.  It'll
help you calm down.

YY:
Thanks for your help!

Bat:
See you later.

YY:
Right!

( Screen transition )

[ I'll try not to let the excitement of my debut overwhelm me. ] |
[ Then I thought about how helpful everyone has been and wondered
what I could do in return. ]
[ Towards that end even doing my best in this match wouldn't repay
it.  I continued to think about that. ]
[ My debut opponent was Hanma Shingoku. ]
[ I can't let myself be taken in by his speed. ]

( Match 4: Yuji Yamashita vs. Hanma Shingoku )

Hayate:
Well, you did pretty well in your debut, didn't you?

YY:
Did I?  I was trying not to think about it while I was out there.

Hayate:
Well, you did very well.  You'll get over your vexation with how you
look out there in time. |
No one is a master when they first begin.

YY:
That's true.

Hayate:
At the same time, such a person has youth and alertness on his side.
Bringing that and experience together will result in mastery. |
Then one can truly connect with the crowd by putting feeling into
his matches.

YY:
Putting feeling into matches you say... |
I'll work towards that!

Hayate:
Right. |
Oh, by the way.  Your opponent today is the type to go all out.  Is
it too much too soon?

YY:
Who is it?

Hayate:
Kyosawa.

( Transition )

Kyosawa:
I cannot wait for my debut.  I'll come at you with all I've got.  No
hesitation, you've got to do the same!

YY:
Right, a contest of wills!

( Match 5: Yuji Yamashita vs. Jikihiro Kyosawa )

Boy:
Hey, Dolphin!  Have you seen this guy?  It's terrible.

Dolphin:
That's what you think!  I came to make sure that there is no trouble
here in Yukiguni Pro! |
Having fun at the expense of Yukiguni Pro is not to be tolerated!

Boy:
Hey you, what would you say if I told you I was going to beat you? |
Beat you badly, beat you so badly that you will have to hide in
shame!

( Transition )

Dolphin:
Those guys... we'll get them, we'll get them.  Well, Yuji shall we
go after them?

YY:
Yes.

Dolphin:
Having fun at the expense of Yukiguni Pro is unforgivable.  Bullying
the children is unforgivable.

YY:
Right...

Hayate:
I got here as fast as my legs could take me.

YY:
..

[ Seirentai EX and Dolphin included, the fight was high in
 intensity. ] |
[ I wanted my intensity to match theirs as I believed it would make
 me stronger. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ Today, I am once again lending a hand in setting up. ]

?:
Hey!

YY:
Good morning!

Hayate:
Morning!
Today it's going to be Mask de Panther IV isn't it?

YY:
It is.

Hayate:
I see.  Well it'll be good to help you learn quite a few things about
a sense of temperment.  His patience in waiting for a turning point is
extraordinary.

YY:
Yes.

Hayate:
Ah, there's something else.

YY:
Yes?

Hayate:
Today is the last day of the series, right?  Please come see me in my
office tomorrow.  I'll be there all day.

YY:
I understand.

( Match 6: Yuji Yamashita vs. Mask de Panther IV )

[ The following day, I went to his office as he asked.  ]

YY:
Good morning!  It's Yuji.  I came as you asked!

Hayate:
Ah, you made it.

[ We sat down on the sofa. ]

YY:
Umm, what did you want to see me about today?

Hayate:
To tell you the truth, I've been thinking about sending you away for
some training.

YY:
Training?

{ I believe the place Hayate decides to send you may vary depending
 on your style. }

Hayate:
I've thought a lot about it, and I've decided to send you to the WWC
promotion.

YY:
The WWC?!

Hayate:
That's right.  Musei will be your contact once you arrive. |
Musei is known as Azteca Dragon. |
Make your rounds for a while, and absorb all you can before you
return. |
I have already spoken to him.  Contact him should you run into any
problems.

YY:
But, umm...

Hayate:
What is it?

YY:
I'm glad to be going to the WWC, but in case another battle with
Seirentai EX breaks out will it be okay if I'm gone?

Hayate:
There will be enough hands around to help.  It's just that I want you
to accumulate more experience.  After that, I believe your fortune
will be made. |
From the standpoint of Yukiguni Pro, it could be a great benefit.
It's an investment.

YY:
Yes...

Hayate:
Relax.  Until you return, our troop will protect Yukiguni Pro. |
Go without worry.

YY:
Yes, sir!

( Fade out )

[ And so, I was to go to the WWC for training. ]

( Plane landing )
( Fade in )

Azteca:
So then, have your preparations gone well?

YY:
Yes.

[ Musei has been looking after me, hosting me in his gym and giving
 some training. ] |
[ Now I was to wrestle my first match in a WWC ring. ]

Azteca:
Focus on the match.

YY:
Right.

Azteca:
Afterwards, the audience will respond to the energy you give into
the match.

YY:
Right!

[ My first WWC opponent was to be Rei Mysterious Jr. ] |
[ His speed and technique are at the level of a master luchador. ] |
[ I took a deep breath. ]

YY:
I'm ready!

Azteca:
Alright, now get out there!

( Match 7: Yuji Yamashita vs. Rei Mysterious Jr. )

[ My first match with WWC was over. ]

Reporter:
Yuji!

YY:
Uh, yes?

Reporter:
How was your first match with the WWC?

YY:
Well it was as demanding as expected.  It was my first time in America
and besides that... |
The large ring was very different from what I am used to and was my
biggest problem.  I didn't get used to it quickly.

Reporter:
What did you think of your opponent: Rei?

YY:
He was as much of a genius in the ring as I've heard.  His manuevers
was amazing, and they took me by surprise.

Reporter:
From here on, how will you fight to achieve your goals?

( Prompt 8 )
( A. Whatever happens, I'll do my best. )
       { H +1 }
( B. My mind is set on winning. )
       { A +1 }
( C. I will strengthen my fundamentals. )
       { H -1, A +1 }

( Prompt 8, Response C )

YY:
With success in the near future in mind, right now I'm absorbing all
I can so that later more of my strength and ability will emerge...
That is my mindset as I fight!

( End 8C )

Reporter:
I see... Well then, I hope you achieve your goals!  Do your best!

YY:
I will!  Thank you very much! |
Phew...

?:
What's wrong?  You look down.

YY:
Ah, Mr. Musei! |
Thank you very much for looking after me.  My first match is done.

Azteca:
I'm glad.  It must have been difficult though.

YY:
It sort of was.  As expected, I'm worn out.

Azteca:
The large ring size was a problem for you, wasn't it?

YY:
Yeah.  I want to work on that in your gym.  Though it's a subtle
aspect, I want to become accustomed to it.

Azteca:
But even being a top class wrestler doesn't mean one can be
nonchalant.  Giving 100% in the ring is what being pro is all
about.

YY:
You're right.  I'm not there yet, so I'll work hard!

Azteca:
Right.

( Fade out, in )

[ Today, Musei is going to be my partner in a tag match. ] |
[ Our opponents are Black Kaiser and Syscos. ] |
[ Black Kaiser was a competitor in VJP as a junior and
 accomplished many things. ]

Azteca:
Right.  Watch our opponents well.  Their style of lucha is
distinctive.  They keep a good sense of what their opponent is
trying to do and are good at responding to it. |
Try to keep up your rhythm in the match and don't let them
disrupt it.

YY:
Right!

Azteca:
The fans' way of seeing that is they focus more and more on what
will happen.  The fans in America approve of a match less when there
is no flow. |
Alright, let's go!

YY:
Yeah, let's go!

( Match 8: Yuji Yamashita and Azteca Dragon vs. Black Kaiser and
 Syscos )

[ And now comes the WWC's greatest wrestler, that being ... ] |
[ Ah, Wild Phantom. ] |
[ Amongst the Japan juniors he achieved the highest accolades.  His
power is easily a match for any heavyweight.  He is a fantastic
 wrestler. ]

Phantom:
It's been a considerably long time since I've had a match with a
Japanese wrestler. |
I hope that since I'm not familiar with you, this turns out to be a
nice fight.

YY:
It is an honor and a privilege to have a match with you. |
But that's why, even if I'm still green, I'll come at you with all
I've got!

( Match 9: Yuji Yamashita vs. Wild Phantom )

[ My time in WWC was over and I've returned to meet with Hayate in
 his office. ]

Hayate:
It's been a while.

YY:
Yes, it's been quite some time since we last talked.

Hayate:
And now, how about this time going to Mexico for some more
seasoning?

YY:
Eh?

Hayate:
Well, how about it?

YY:
Will everything be okay if I go again?

Hayate:
Am I going against your wishes?  If it is your wish to go I will
not hold you back.

YY:
Well then, by all means, please.

Hayate:
I understand.  This time D.Silver Jr. will be your contact. |
Do your best!

YY:
I will!

( Fade out )

[ And now I fly off to Mexico. ]

( Plane landing )
( Fade in )

[ I'm stretching in preparation for the match. ]

D.Silver:
Well then, are you ready?

YY:
Ready.

D.Silver:
For you, we have a special big match in mind.

YY:
.. Really?

[ I had the feeling I was being the butt of a joke. ]

D.Silver:
It's a really Super Big Match.

YY:
Super Big Match?

D.Silver:
You're a lucky guy.  They just happened to be here at the same
time as you.  It's really great.

YY:
Who are "they"?

D.Silver:
Who indeed.

( Fade out, in )

[ And now D.Silver is my partner for this "big match." ] |
[ So who was he talking about ? ] |
[ What?  Hermanos de Mascaras! ]

Condor:
How many years has it been since a match with a Japanese wrestler...

Eagle:
You're a wrestler from Hayate's place aren't you?  How is he doing
these days? |
The power bomb to the outside shelved him for quite some time.  I
haven't seen him since... |
Hey, you.  This is Mexico, so if you're careless... Just be
mindful.

Yuji:
If there is a debt to repay by Hayate then I will take it up!

[ And so a dream match turned into a grudge match. ]

( Match 10: Yuji Yamashita and D.Silver Jr vs Mascara Condor and
 Mascara Eagle )

[ Our match with the Hermanos de Mascaras was over.  I returned to the
 waiting room. ]

D.Silver:
So what did you think of the match with the Hermanos de Mascaras?

YY:
Yes, well it was everything I would have expected it to be.  But it's
hard to believe that they would just happen to be here...

D.Silver:
Hahaha, no need to thank me.

YY:
No really, I really appreciate it.

?:
Hey!

YY:
What?!

Hayate:
What's wrong?  You seem pretty surprised.

YY:
But... when did you get here?

Hayate:
I have many business matters to attend to and had something to take
care of in America.

YY:
America?

Hayate:
I was working on an exclusive contract deal with the WFW.  I planned
to come here directly after the conference.

YY:
Heh... that's great!

Hayate:
And we are also close to a deal with EXW.

[ EXW is to America what New IW is to Japan. "Hardcore" is their
keyword and their fights are unorthodox. ]

YY:
Really?  But then why all the trouble to send me to Mexico?
Considering our situation isn't this bad?

Hayate:
That's not all.  I have business for you as well.

YY:
Business?

Hayate:
Hurry up and get your things together.

YY:
Okay...?

Hayate:
I'm taking you with me.  We're having matches with the WFW and EXW. |
It'll be good experiece.  Hurry, here's your plane ticket.

YY:
Eh?!  Um, got it! |
Well then D.Silver.  Thank you very, very much.  I hope we meet again
someday.

D.Silver:
Okay.  Have a good trip.

YY:
Thanks!

( Fade out )
[ So then, we set out to fly to America. ]
( Plane landing )

[ And as Hayate said, I am to have matches with EXW. ] |
[ I'm first having a match with one of their aces, Rog Random. ]

Random:
Hey bro, you gotta go over the top.  The fans came to see
hardcore wrestling and that's what we gotta give them.

YY:
I won't hold back!  Give me your best shot!

Random:
Hahahah!  Got it, bro.  However, let's see if you live up to
what you say.

( Match 11: Yuji Yamashita vs. Rog Random )

Hayate:
Your skills are maturing very well.

YY:
I guess they are...
I owe it to the training I've undergone.  I learned quite a bit. |
Speed, skill, training... I've seen many examples of each, another
thing I owe to the training.

Hayate:
Hahahah... so would you say the investment paid off?

YY:
Yes.  It paid off quite well!

Hayate:
That's truly encouraging to hear.

YY:
Thinking about that and another thing makes me pretty happy.

Hayate:
What's the other thing?

YY:
That I'm getting to be your tag partner for the first time!

Hayate:
Ah, I see.  Soon we'll see the results of your training. |
But our opponents are formidable.

YY:
True.

[ Our opponents are Rog Random and Tatoo. ] |
[ EXW's premier tag team. ]

Hayate:
If we push ourselves to our limits it should be enough to win.
I'm counting on you!

YY:
Right!

( Match 12: Yuji Yamashita and Blade Hayate vs. Rog Random and Tatoo )

[ After our time in EXW, we went to meet with the WFW in New York. ]

Hayate:
Over there.

( Transition )

Dick:
Ah you made it Hayate.

Hayate:
Well, let's begin.

Dick:
It's sudden but I'd like to go with some test matches against
Seirentai. |
Once I see how the fans respond to it, we'll discuss the deal at
length.

Hayate:
Understood.

[ So then it was agreed between the two that there would be two
matches.  Hayate versus WAKA and Yamashita versus Funegoe. ]

( Transition )

Hayate:
I'm counting on you.  These two matches will determine the fate of
the contract. |
We must amaze and captivate the American fans!

YY:
Yes, sir!

( Match 13: Yuji Yamashita vs. Eiichi Funegoe )

YY:
What was the final decision on the contract?

Hayate:
I have not gotten a reply yet.  Perhaps they are still considering. |
I will return to Japan in the meantime.  I'll continue to work on our
situation from there.

YY:
I see.  So are we returning together?

Hayate:
No.  In truth, I think I'll leave you here with Seirentai.

YY:
Eh?

Hayate:
Okay, over there.

( Transition )

Hayate:
Hey!

WAKA:
Alright, what is it now?

Hayate:
May I speak with you?  I'd like you to look after this fellow for a
while.

WAKA:
Shit... Fine, have it your way.  I'll do it.

Hayate:
Well, I leave it to you.  I will return now to Japan. |
Yuji, until I get in touch with you, continue to have matches here.
Do your best!

YY:
..

WAKA:
Same as always, that guy.  He the same way with you?

YY:
Eheheh... we-well I guess I've gotten used to it.  I suppose... |
By the way, where is the rest of the group?

WAKA:
The others are still in Japan from when they left recently.  That's
why there's only me right now.

YY:
I see...

WAKA:
I've seen your face before but this is the first time I've spoken
to you.

YY:
Oh, yeah.  My name is Yuji Yamashita.  Nice to meet you.

WAKA:
Man, how formal.  Are you ready for a match?  You've got one today.

YY:
Eh?  I heard it the first time, but...

WAKA:
.. That Hayate, what the hell does he think he's doing?  Why didn't
he tell you about it? |
Kerry Boy is coming tonight.  He's your opponent.

YY:
Okay, got it!  For the sake of that contract, I'll do my best!

WAKA:
Yeah, yeah.

( Match 14: Yuji Yamashita vs. Kerry Boy )

Dick:
The decision has been made on your troupe.

YY:
Really?!

Dick:
However, I'd like to see another test match.  With a match of
significance, I'd like to see how generous the audience response will
be.

YY:
I see...

Dick:
The issue is the competition you'll provide.  Most with your physique
have not become superstars. |
So that's why we'll start you two as the remaining members of
Seirentai then shift to a dispute between you two.

YY:
Ah!  I see.

Dick:
Within the scope of the Lightheavyweight division I want it to provide
buildup but that will be all for now. |
Between the two of you, I'm hoping for a tremendous match.

YY:
Yes, sir!

( Transition )

YY:
WAKA, you haven't said anything at all.  What's wrong?

( WAKA hits you )

Ouch!

WAKA:
You can talk to yourself all you like.  I have no interest in talking
to you!

YY:
What did you hit me for?

WAKA:
You like the showdown in our group too much.  Way too much.

YY:
But it'll provide buildup for the division.  That's what he said, why
not wait and see.

WAKA:
Aren't you the optimistic one?  Would it surprise you if I told you
remind me of Hayate?

YY:
Really?

WAKA:
Yes, really.

( Fade out )
[ So that day, WAKA and Funegoe, NATO and myself were all to have
singles matches with each other. ]

( Match 15: Yuji Yamashita vs. NATO )

[ It was like any other day as I entered the arena to meet up with
 WAKA. ]

YY:
Woah!

Odin:
..

[ Before me was a large man.  When I asked if I could get passed him
he turned to look at me. ]

Odin:
Shu, shu!

[ He responded with a Danger K style karate pose! ] |
[ I must have had a stupid look on my face in reaction because he
 grinned and laughed. ]
[ What on earth is going on? ]

WAKA:</pre><pre id="faqspan-3">
What are you doing here?  Oh, it's you Odin.

Odin:
Hey, you know this guy, WAKA?

WAKA:
Yeah.  Did you just do what you always do when you see me?

Odin:
Of course.  It's what you guys call Karate right?

WAKA:
Hahaha, yeah that's right.

Odin:
Well hey, what's your name, son?

YY:
Ah, wh-who me?  My name is Yuji Yamashita.  Pleased to meet you.

Odin:
Yuji is it?  I'll remember it.  Later.

YY:
Huh... who was that?

( WAKA hits you. )

WAKA:
That's the WFW's ace, Steel Gold Steam Odin, of course! |
Don't forget that while you're around here!

YY:
O-okay...

( Fade out, in )

WAKA:
Now then, today is the big match for the higher ups.  So I'm not
going to drag my feet.

YY:
Time for talk is over.  I'm going all out!

WAKA:
Yeah, yeah, I know.  Well, here we go.

YY:
Right!

( Match 16: Yuji Yamashita and WAKA Yukiguni vs. NATO and Kerry Boy )

Dick:
The research is complete.  WFW and Seirentai will form a contract. |
The exclusive deal with Yukiguni Pro will be discontinued.

YY:
What?!

Dick:
However, we will still offer individual contracts.

YY:
The deal with Yukiguni Pro... is no good?!

Dick:
It's just business.  Just a judgement call.  That's all.

YY:
..

Dick:
Yuji, what about you?  How about an individual contract as a member
of Seirentai?

YY:
I, I...

( Fade out, in )

WAKA:
It may seem cold, but that's the way it is.  As the owner said, it's
just business.

YY:
Yeah...

WAKA:
Well then.  Does Hayate know?  Should I break the news to him?

YY:
No, I'll go back.

WAKA:
I see... Well, have it your way.  It's probably better if you told
him anyway.

YY:
His spirits were up.  He was so optimistic but...

WAKA:
Well, it was alright what I said, but that...

( Fade out, in )

WAKA:
In Japan, did you ever have any matches with him?  You should have
at least one match with him if you haven't.

YY:
Thanks.  I'm glad to be having a match with you.

WAKA:
But here the story says that we're friends turned into enemies and
that you're supposed to hate me, and decide to return to Japan. |
For the time being, get that into your head for the match!

YY:
Okay!

( Match 17: Yuji Yamashita vs. WAKA Yukiguni )

Hayate:
You made it.

YY:
Yes.

Hayate:
The WFW told me the agreement was over.

YY:
Did they... It's very disappointing.

Hayate:
Well, yes but you've gotten experience so in the end it's okay.  I'm
glad you've returned. |
Dick told me that he tempted you with an offer, but you still came back
didn't you? |
You were practically offered the world, yet you still went through the
trouble of returning to Yukiguni Pro.

YY:
As I thought, I'm only human, but I owe everyone here a debt of
gratitude.  Not only that, I really like it here!

Hayate:
Thank you.  Hearing your say that means a lot.  That contract would
have been nice, but everyone here will continue to work hard!

YY:
Through all our efforts, we'll make Yukiguni Pro prosperous!

Hayate:
That's right. |
By the way, VJP is sponsoring a big Junior match. |
It's actually nothing but big matches.  It is the Junior All Star
Battle.

YY:
Heh... that's great.  "Jump Up the Hyper Junior"... will it be their
roster in a three round tournament.

Hayate:
No, OJP will also be participating.

YY:
Really?  Then it really will be an all-star event!

Hayate:
Right.  The tournament will have 16 entries.  Each organization is
allowed a certain number of participants.  We are allowed 2. |
Some have reserves and are allowed 3, but they have to select early. |
Of course, these promotions are sending their best.  Of course they
won't be sending anyone weak out to represent them.

YY:
Well, we'll also have to stake out our best for that reason, won't we?

Hayate:
Right.  We must not be too hasty.

YY:
I... would like to be in the group.

Hayate:
Eh?  What are you saying?  You're needed to help around here.

YY:
But, if I win as a memeber of our representative group, it would help
Yukiguni Pro even more.

Hayate:
I suppose so.

YY:
It will be a real challenge for me.  Among all of those great juniors
to be exposed to...

Hayate:
True... Well then, by all means!

YY:
Alright!

( Fade out )

[ And so I was the third selection submitted. ] |
[ A few indies unknown to me had representatives, as well as
mysterious participants from abroad, as well as our group and other
 Japanese wrestlers. ]
[ Should the rest of my group lose, I must win. ]
[ I noticed that VJP had selected a wrestler named Koichi as one of
their participants.  I wondered if it was the same one I knew. ]
[ I wanted to gather all of my strength and keep a clear head. ]
[ Then... ]

( Fade in )

[ The greatest of all events, "The King of World Juniors" tournament
 had begun. ]
[ As one of our group it was time for my first match.  My opponent was
 to be... ]

YY:
It can't be that my first opponent is Hayate...

Hayate:
It is disappointing but this is how it must be.  We must still give our
best match. |
However, I think this will work out for the best.

YY:
Eh?

Hayate:
Win or lose, either way still gives me hope.  If I win, we're still
represented.  If I lose it means you have learned enough to surpass me.

YY:
Hayate.

Hayate:
So the winner here must win the tournament.  Am I wrong?

YY:
Right.  That's right. |
I will win, Hayate.  Then I will win the tournament! |
Then I will begin to pay back my debt of gratitude.

Hayate:
Well said! |
But still, I am just one wrestler.  I must avoid losing at all costs.
That is why I must fight with all my heart!

YY:
And I will do the same!

( Match 18: Yuji Yamashita vs. Blade Hayate )
( If YY wins )

[ The second day of the "King of World Juniors" tournament.  This
is my second match. ] |
[ I defeated Hayate, so now the responsibility of winning the
tournament is on my shoulders.  And now my next opponent is... ]

Azteca:
The young, green fellow that I met from back then.

YY:
Musei...

Azteca:
But now he has come to be my rival in the tournament.  I will not
let sentimentality get in the way.  I will not hold back. |
I will become the top junior in the world!

YY:
I am indebted to youj from that time but...
I am on a mission for Yuki Pro...
My own feeling...
Is to come at you at full strength!

Azteca:
Come on!

( Match 19: Yuji Yamashita vs. Azteca Dragon )
( If YY wins )

[ The third day of "King of World Juniors."  I have reached the
 semifinals. ] |
[ I defeated Azteca, and I am one step away from the finals.  My next
 opponent... ]
[ Hosen Yagawa of Olive Japan. ] |
[ His technique and inside work enable him to hold his own even
 against heavyweights. ] |
[ Many fans consider him the most skilled Junior in Japan. ]

YY:
This dream match has suddenly come to pass.  I believe this to be an
honor. |
However, I cannot let you advance.  I must win.  I won't hold back!

Yagawa:
.. |
Likewise... |
I believe this match with you will be great.  I share in your desire
to win. |
For the sake of Olive Japan. |
I offer my hand.  As hard as you squeeze during our handshake, I will
respond with the same strength. |
Until the sound of the bell.

( Match 20: Yuji Yamashita vs. Hosen Yagawa )
( If YY wins )

[ The deciding day of the "King of World Juniors" tournament. ] |
[ My opponent defeated Dolphin in round one, Phantom in round two, and
Kaisen in the semifinals. ] |
[ His name... ] |
[ Koichi Sakagami!! ]

YY:
I knew this day would come.  This is untouchable. |
Are you really the same Koichi I know from back then?  You seem like
him to me.

Koichi:
As you said... As I was that day way back when we first met, you
wouldn't think it was me looking at me now.

YY:
From that point, you've done quite well for yourself.

Koichi:
I guess I have...

YY:
..

Koichi:
.. |
Listen to the tremendous ovation. |
Look at the vast audience. |
On this great stage, we have arrived from our start in the Ittetsu
Dojo to achieve our mutual dream. |
It really has come true.

YY:
I hear and I see. |
Our dream from back then, is here and now. |
And now they'll witness our match of matches ! |
We will bring them to their feet ! |
Let's shake hands and once the bell rings, we will make it all happen.

( Match 21: Yuji Yamashita vs. Koichi Sakagami )
( If YY wins )

[ The "King of World Junior" tournament is over. ] |
[ A group of people are entering the ring. ]

Dolphin:
What a great match!

Phantom:
What an outstanding fight you guys put on.  My heart is pounding!

Kamamoto:
Yeah, it was great.

Ogai:
Great rivalry!

WAKA:
The American fans would love this.

Korosawa:
A tremendous bout.  Maybe someday I'll have a match of this caliber as
well.

Azteca:
Truly a match the world will admire.

Kaiser:
I still don't want to give up just yet, but seeing the fight you two
put on sets my mind at ease for the future.

Hayate:
You've really... you've really made it big!  I too can say that my mind
is set at ease.

Koichi:
Yuji, this match... I'm honestly happy to be part of it.

YY:
I definitely feel the same, Koichi.  I consider you to be my greatest
rival.  Up to this point and from now on.

Koichi:
From the Jakugen Dojo to... hey!

YY:
?

Koichi:
Look, inside the entranceway...

YY:
The coach... Ittetsu...

( Transition )

Coach:
Hahaha... |
Those two have really come into their own. |
I will take no more students.  Now that you two wrestlers have
gotten where you are I cannot bring myself to. |
Hahaha....

( Transition )

[ As we watched him leave we bowed.  Just as we did that day we
graduated from the dojo. ] |
[ After that, everyone began to carry us on their shoulders, and
tossing us into the air in triumph. ] |
[ Even well after we left, the cheers did not die down. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ After that big match, Koichi and I began touring the world. ] |
[ We wanted to see the styles of different countries, different
 people. ] |
[ And then, we will show the world some truly amazing wrestling.
 That's what I believe. ]

( Transition )

[ And of course, I wanted every part of Japan to see our wrestling. ] |
[ Even those who had never seen it before. ] |
[ Even those who looked down on it. ] |
[ The many fans of pro wrestling. ] |
[ All of those so that in the future there will always be people to
watch pro wrestling wherever it may be. ] |
[ With that goal we continue. ] |
[ The path we have taken, our Fighting Road... ]

{ End of Junior Heavyweight path }

D. Olive Japan

[ Of the two major promotions in Japan, Olive Japan is the oldest. ] |
[ Great Shiba founded the organization in 1972. ] |
[ "Brilliant, Entertaining, Fierce" was the slogan for "King's Road"'
pro wrestling and continues to captivate many fans. ]

YY:
Excuse me!

( Fade in )

[ On this big day on which I join the promotion I am to meet with Mr.
 Shiba. ]

Shiba:
So then.  Are you ready?

YY:
Yes.  I've trained hard and have a great desire to begin.  My
condition is good.

Shiba:
Is that so?  Then if it's not too soon, can I see you in your debut?

YY:
R-really?!  By all means!

Shiba:
Right then, during the next event we'll put you in.

YY:
Yes, sir!  I'll do my absolute best!

( Fade out, in )

[ And then the day of my debut came... ] |
[ My match was next.  I suddenly became very tense and anxious.  I
 froze up. ]

Tommy:
So your debut is today?

[ It was Tommy Bomber. ]

YY:
Y-yes!

Tommy:
You must be pretty nervous.  But it'll be no worse out there than it
was for your sparring match, will it?

YY:
But I'll still see it as my debut...

Tommy:
Hahaha... Well, I was pretty nervous for my debut, myself.  But I
didn't tell anyone.

YY:
You were nervous?

Tommy:
Yes.  What I'm saying is straight from the heart.

YY:
Is that so?

Tommy:
But one's final battle is with oneself.  It's a battle you'll
fight again and again in your career, as a human being and a
wrestler. |
Shiba has high hopes for you.  Those hopes may be a burden, but for
the sake of those hopes you'll do your best, right?

YY:
Absolutely!  I'll go out there and give it all I've got!

Tommy:
Right, that's the spirit.  I'll be watching the match.

YY:
Thank you very much!

( Tommy leaves. )

[ Thanks to Tommy, my fears have been alleviated. ]

( Fade out, in )

Akisato:
I need to have a match with this new person in his debut. |
I'll stop whatever you throw.  If you get too scared out here and
freeze up, I'll hit you hard when you hesitate.  It will be
explosive!

YY:
Let's do this!

( Match 4: YY vs. Akisato )

( If YY wins )

[ After my debut, I hurried to present myself at the office.  At the
same time, my hope was that he would acknowledge my performance. ]

Kobuchizawa:
Hey, are things going well?

YY:
Yes, things are going great.

[ Kobuchizawa.  Retired from the World Junior Heavyweight Championship.
He held that title longer than anyone. ]

Kobuchizawa:
Hahaha... I guess you'll be in good spirits for the rest of the day. |
Later on, let's have a match.

YY:
Eh?!

Kobuchizawa:
How about it?

YY:
Sure, by all means!

Kobuchizawa:
Okay, I'll tell the president about it.

YY:
A match with the Junior Heavyweight Champion.  This should be good!

Kobuchizawa:
Haha.  Yes, I think this will be interesting.

Akisato:
You didn't get nervous out there, did you?  You've got guts.

YY:
Heheh...

Akisato:
However, Kobuchizawa is scary.  Watch out.

[ I thought he was making a joke, but I almost didn't believe it
when I saw he was being serious. ]

( Fade out, in )

Kobuchizawa:
..

YY:
?!

[ My heart leaped.  Instead of the Kobuchizawa I was speaking to
earlier was a stern and fierce competitor. ] |
[ Is this what Akisato meant? ] |
[ However... I could not let it get to me.  Otherwise, he might
 seem totally insurmountable! ]

Kobuchizawa:
What's wrong, Yamashita?

[ Kobuchizawa had a wry expression. ]

YY:
Nothing.  Let's get started.

( Match 5: Yamashita vs. Kobuchizawa )

( If YY wins. )

Tommy:
Tired out?

YY:
Tommy, you made it!  Did you watch the match?

Tommy:
I did.  I was surprised by your match with Kobuchizawa.

YY:
Really?  I had to work really hard.

Tommy:
I see, I see.  Heheheh... this will be interesting.

YY:
Eh?

Tommy:
Nothing.  Just thinking out loud. |
Oh yes, I almost forgot.  Mr. Shiba wants to see you in his office
tomorrow morning.

YY:
Got it.

( Fade out, in )

YY:
Good morning!

Shiba:
Oh, you're here.  Have a seat. |
The reason I've asked you here is that I'm thinking of the Subaru Cup
exhibition in the next series. |
For the Subaru cup tomorrow, the younger wrestlers will be entering. |
The entrants will all want to win the tournament, as it will be a big
step for them if they do win. |
In addition to broadening their horizons, it might lead to them getting
their big chance. |
The entrants will be Ohbayashi, Honma, Sentani, and yourself.

YY:
Akisawa will not be entering...

Shiba:
True.

[ It got me to thinking about Akisawa.  It seemed like Ohbayashi and I
would be shooting for the same target, but I wanted to be the one
 getting the jump ahead. ]
[ He will be competing in the Subaru Cup with the same desire. ]

YY:
..

[ The president grinned and laughed as he watched me.  I snapped to
 and felt embarassed. ]

Shiba:
Ohbayashi had that same look on his face when I told him about this.

YY:
Ohbayashi?

Shiba:
Bring that fighting spirit with you to the contest.  I'm counting on
you all to make the Subaru Cup a success.

YY:
Yes, sir!

[ I was lost in thought about the Subaru Cup. ]

( YY gets hit )

YY:
Ouch!  Oh, Kobuchizawa.

Kobuchizawa:
"Oh, Kobuchizawa" is it? |
When I invited you to a match, I had no idea.

YY:
Eh?  Really?

Kobuchizawa:
But don't get too overconfident going into the Subaru Cup.  And don't
get caught up in your surroundings, either.

YY:
Yes.

Kobuchizawa:
Especially in today's match against Luis, right?  He likes to target
the legs.

YY:
Yes.  I'll be careful.

Kobuchizawa:
Right.  Well, I'll be pulling for you.  Good luck.

YY:
Right!

( Match 6: YY vs. Tony Luis )
( If YY wins )

[ With the things Kobuchizawa warned me about in mind, I wasn't
supposed to be too preoccupied with the Subaru Cup. ] |
[ Still, I was walking along, thinking about it. ]

( YY bumps into someone )

YY:
S-sorry!  I was lost in thought.  Ah man, it's Akisawa.

Akisawa:
"Ah, man" is it?  "Ah, man?"

YY:
My bad.

Akisawa:
Well, what were you so lost in thought about?

YY:
Maybe it has something to do with you.

Akisawa:
Why are you so angry?

YY:
I'm going to win the Cup, and then chase you down and pass you!

Akisawa:
.. Is that so?

YY:
Hm?

Akisawa:
What you just said.  Just a little while ago Ohbayashi came up to
me and said almost the exact same thing.

YY:
..

[ I was at a loss for words. ]

Akisawa:
I see.  But you both can't be successful at what you're trying
to do, can you?

YY:
Fine.  Whatever.  I'm gone.

Akisawa:
By the way, about your goals.  I'm not the only one you'll have to
be worrying about.  There are in line beyond me.  The age of the
Four Lords of Heaven has not yet ended.

YY:
.. I suppose not.

Akisawa:
Your match with Ohbayashi should be interesting.

YY:
Feh.  He wasn't even fazed.

[ But there was still Ohbayashi to worry about. ] |
[ If he's really of the same mindset as I am, then he'll be rolling
up his sleeves for this match, so to speak.  Maybe he'll be a
 bit careless. ]

( Transition )

Tommy:
Finally time to start, eh?

YY:
Yes.

Tommy:
Good luck!

( Tommy gives YY a "pat" on the on the back. )

YY:
Ouch!!

[ He gave me a pat on the back that almost knocked me to the
 floor. ] |
[ By the heavy hand of Tommy Bomber, it was the most painful
 encouragement I've ever received. ]

YY:
That hurt...

Tommy:
Hahaha... sorry, sorry.

[ He laughed.  Must have done it on purpose. ] |
[ I'd hate to think how it'd feel if he struck with full force. ]

YY:
That's scary...

Tommy:
Hahahah!

[ He laughed as he left... ] |
[ A big red welt from that "pat" lingered.  No doubt the audience
will get a laugh out of it. ]

Kobuchizawa:
Hey, it's your turn.

YY:
Y-yes.

( Transition )

Kobuchizawa:
What's wrong with your back?

YY:
Nothing, um...

Kobuchizawa:
Let me guess.  It was Tommy.

YY:
Yes.  What was that about?

Kobuchizawa:
Right.  Let me see your stance.

YY:
Eh?

Kobuchizawa:
Whatever, just do it.

[ I got in my stance like he asked. ]

Kobuchizawa:
Just as I thought.

YY:
What is it?

Kobuchizawa:
It's not bad, but an opponent can power their way in.

YY:
Ah...

[ He told me and demonstrated how to adjust to prevent someone from
powering their way in. ] |
[ A little flexibility in the stance to help go with the flow of an
attack as opposed to trying to clash against it.  He helped get
 the form set. ] |
[ All as a result of the big red welt Tommy left on my back.  I
 wonder if he knew. ]

Kobuchizawa:
Now get going.

YY:
Right!

[ Sentani was my opponent. ]

( Match 7: Yamashita vs. Sentani )

( If YY wins )

YY:
Tommy!

Tommy:
Hey.

YY:
Thanks.

Tommy:
Hm?

YY:
That "pat" on the back.

Tommy:
Oh.  I always do that.

[ He laughed happily. ]

YY:
It's totally fine.  I have a feeling you knew what would come of it.

Tommy:
Well, it was worthwhile wasn't it?  The results were interesting.

YY:
Yes.

[ I bowed as he left. ]

( Transition )

[ Today my opponent in the ring was Honma.  His defense against being
 thrown seems low. ]

Akisato:
Hey, it's your turn!

YY:
Right, here I go!

[ I paused to gather my strength, leaving when I felt ready. ]

( Match 8: Yamashita vs. Honma )

[ Ohbayashi and I both have two wins in the Subaru Cup.  The event
comes to a climax in a tiebreaker between us. ] |
[ The deciding match is to be held in the Nihon Butoukan between
Ohbayashi and myself to determine the fate of the tournament. ]

Reporter:
Yamashita! |
The deciding match of the Subara Cup, right?

YY:
That's right.

Reporter:
With the contest at a draw, no doubt both of you will do all you can
to defeat your rival, which should make for a heated battle, shouldn't
it?

YY:
No doubt that'll be a big part of it.  Winning a big battle like this
will be a huge step.

Reporter:
Thank you for your time.  Good luck!

( Fade out, in )

[ Soon it will be time to decide the Subaru Cup. ]

( Transition )

Akisawa:
Finally, hm?

YY:
Yeah.

Akisawa:
I'll be watching your match.

YY:
Then you better watch well!

( Match 9: Yamashita vs. Ohbayashi )

( If YY wins )

Reporter:
Congratulations on winning the Subaru Cup!

YY:
Ha, ha, I did it.  I knew I could.

Reporter:
From here do you think you can now take on Akisawa, maybe even the
Four Lords of Heaven?

( Prompt 8 )
( A. Absolutely )
       { A +1 }
( B. I still have a ways to go! )
       { H +1 }
( C. As always, I'll take things at my pace. )
       { H -1 }

( Choice C )

YY:
Step by step is the approach I took to get to this point, and step
by step will be the approach I will continue to take. |
That's how I will get to the belt.

( End 8C )

Reporter:
No doubt the fans will take to you.

YY:
I hope they continue to support me!

( Fade out )

[ I had a long meeting with President Shiba. ]

Shiba:
I've asked you here because Steel James has decided to go to the WFW.

YY:
Oh, really?

Shiba:
On the 29th in Osaka, there will be a sendoff match. |
Also, the ace of the New IW, Ranmal, will be participating.

YY:
Ranmal...

Shiba:
On the 3rd in Rakuen Hall a tag match, and a singles match on the 29th
is the way I want to go. |
I think I'll put you in for the sendoff match on the 29th. |
As for Akisawa and yourself, one way or another, during the series, I
will watch the situation and make a decision. |
Be well prepared so that you don't falter.

YY:
I understand.

( Fade out, in )

James:
You're my last opponent, huh?  What a letdown.  There won't be much
satisfaction after I win.

YY:
I'm going to have to do something about your attitude.

James:
Just what a rookie would say.  At best you'll be a nuisance.

YY:
Let's go!

James:
Come ooon!

( Match 10: Yamashita vs. James )

( If YY wins )

[ Right after, I found myself preparing for a new battle. ] |
[ It was the tag team champions, Akisawa and Ohbayashi in a nontitle
 match. ]

Akisawa:
We have become three-time champions.  We will hold these over
everyone.

YY:
Oh, ho.  So you've come to the ring.  Why don't you prove that to me
if you can.

Akisawa:
Oh?  Ohbayashi seems quiet about that.  It's not the reason.

YY:
So it seems.  But you're here aren't you?

Akisawa:
Yes.  Both of us are here because of you.

YY:
Heheh.  Come on, then.

( Match 11: YY and Honma vs. Akisawa and Ohbayashi )

( If YY and Honma win )

[ The tag match heated things up and we progressed to a singles
 match. ] |
[ The status of being the fifth man was at stake.  I cannot lose. ]

Akisawa:
And now our battle truly begins.

YY:
Yeah.  This fight can bring me one step closer to the Four Lords of
Heaven.

Akisawa:
Just as you fought Ohbayashi that time, you better come at me with
all you have!

YY:
It's how I've gotten this far.  Now you'll see firsthand!

( Match 12: YY vs. Akisawa )

[ It was a hard fought battle.  But now through this conquest of my
own limits, the Four Lords of Heaven are in sight.  I was in high
 spirits, but... ] |
[ Although I wasn't sure how I would do against them, I was certain
that I would perform well. ]

Akisawa:
Well fought.  To be quite honest, I never thought you'd bring that
level of intensity to the match. |
Now I have a new rival.  Keep that intensity throughout!

YY:
I will!  Thanks.

Akisawa:
I look forward to the time when we'll be competing like this for the
Triple Crown.

YY:
No doubt about it!  We'll have infiltrated the Four Lords.

Akisawa:
Right!

[ We shook hands and left. ]

( Fade out )

[ Once again, I was summoned to Shiba's office. ]

( Fade in )

Shiba:
You've been working quite hard, as was evident during your last match.

YY:
Thank you very much!

Shiba:
And by your efforts... during the next series you'll be getting an
opportunity.

YY:
Opportunity?

Shiba:
The opportunity I'll be giving you is this.  The Five Match Gauntlet.

YY:
Five Match Gauntlet?!

Shiba:
Of course, you should prepare for any type of opponent.  As long as
you keep winning, you'll still be in it, and if you don't lose...
you'll take the next step.

YY:
Yes.  I'll give everything I've got.

Shiba:
Right.  I'd like for you to produce fruitful results from this.

( Fade out, in )

[ I wonder who my opponents will be for the Five Match Gauntlet ]

Reporter:
Yamashita!  So you've been assigned the Five Match Gauntlet!

YY:
That was fast.  How did you hear about it?

Reporter:
I asked President Shiba about it a little while ago.

YY:
I see.

Reporter:
So then, what are your feelings about going the distance?

YY:
Well, my first opponent has not been decided yet so it's hard to say.

Reporter:
This will result in a shot at the Triple Crown Championship if you win
all wouldn't it?

YY:
Well, I can't think about that too much yet or I may get overexcited.
But... |

( Prompt 10 )
( A. I will win them all without fail! )
       { H +1 }
( B. One by one, I'll do my best in each match. )
       { H -1 }

{ Reporter responds the same way to both }

Reporter:
Do your best in the Five Match Gauntlet!  Good luck!

( Transition )

[ I began preparations for the Gauntlet, quietly training. ]

Tommy:
Right, good luck!

YY:
Tommy!  You came by to visit.

Tommy:
This Gauntlet is a great opportunity.

YY:
Yes!  I'm putting everything into it.

Tommy:
I believe that Mr. Shiba is also hoping that you'll emerge on top. |
Towards becoming the ace of Olive Japan, don't give up.

YY:
Thank you very much!

( Fade out, in )

{ The opponents during the Gauntlet can vary.  It not only depends on
wrestling style, but there are also number of dialog prompts during
 it. }

[ My first opponent has been decided.  It's Ohbayashi. ] |
[ First I have to prove the first match I had with him was no fluke
and fight him with the same intensity now that I had then. ]

Akisato:
It's Ohbayashi today, isn't it?

YY:
Yeah.

Akisato:
Two evenly matched competitors with the same goals usually results in
a great bout.

YY:
True.  It'll be a match with many repercussions.

Kobuchizawa:
Yamashita!  You're up!

YY:
Yes!

( Match 13: YY vs. Ohbayashi )
( If YY wins )

Kobuchizawa:
Are you ready?

YY:
I'm always ready!

Kobuchizawa:
No matter how tense you get during the Gauntlet, you need to keep your
spirits up.

YY:
I'll keep that in mind.

Kobuchizawa:
Otherwise, you won't get to the top. |
Did you know about that?  The Gauntlet would place you at the very top.

YY:
You think so?

Kobuchizawa:
Tommy, Hikawa and Togashi all think so.

YY:
Wow...

Kobuchizawa:
They said that you have a great deal of potential, and this is a way
of testing it!

YY:
I see!

Kobuchizawa:
On the other hand, if you don't make it, it could be the beginning of
the end of your ascension to the top.

YY:
That can't be!

Kobuchizawa:
Well, do your best to prevent that.

YY:
Right.

( Kobuchizawa leaves. )

[ ... A turmoil of emotions after his visit ... ]

( Fade out, in )

[ My second battle in the Five Gauntlet Match was Bright.  The UWH
 Integral's Suplex Monster. ] |
[ He has won 100% of his matches when he executes his Full Nelson
Suplex.  I have to avoid taking that at all costs. ]

( Match 14: YY vs. G.O=Bright )
( YY wins )

Reporter:
Yamashita!

YY:
Ah, thanks.

Reporter:
Good morning!  Um, can I have a few quick comments?

YY:
About them?

Reporter:
It will just take a moment.  What's your impression? |
He withdrew from View Japan and came looking here for new faces to
fight. |
He is both an assemblyman, a member of the National Diet and a
wrestler both at the same time.  He's quite the gifted person.

YY:
Yes... his ability as a member of the Diet while maintaining a career
as a pro wrestler is amazing.  What's more he keeps his condition
finely tuned. |
His ground work is based on an amateur wrestling background and also
he doesn't give up easily.  This should be an interesting experience.

Reporter:
Admiring praise.

YY:
Hahaha, I guess it is.  But it's true he really is exceptional, but...

Reporter:
But what?

( Prompt 11 )
( A. I can't lose to someone who wrestles only part-time. )
       { H +1, A +1 }
( B. It should be a heated battle. )
       { H +2 }

( Choice 11B )
YY:
When we face each other, I will tell him that if I win "It's only
because you do this on the side and don't concentrate all your energy
here."

Reporter:
Yes.

YY:
I don't think I could say that "I'm not losing to a part-timer." |
It should be a heated battle!
( End 11B )

Reporter:
Today, you're facing two wrestlers.

YY:
That's right.  I'll be coming at them like a man on fire!

Reporter:
I hope you succeed!

( Fade out )

[ Then it was time for my match. ]

( Match 15: YY vs. Hiroshi Date )
( If YY wins )

[ The second match of the day.  I thought about my next opponent, John
 Peace. ]

Togashi:
Got a match with John today?

YY:
Ah, Togashi.

Togashi:
Should be fun to watch.  Good luck.

[ He gave me a pat on the back and left. ] |
[ He went through the trouble to make time to watch the match.  Was
he rooting for me? ] |
[ ... I'll have to do my best. ]

Peace:
I'm going to make The Movement of foreign wrestlers a success!  I will
not lose to you.

YY:
Wrong.

Peace:
What?!

YY:
I understand what you're saying, but all the talk, all the insisting,
and all the promising won't get it done. |
If The Movement only does things halfway like this, no one will follow
it!

Peace:
God damn!

( Match 16: YY vs. John Peace )
( YY wins )

Reporter:
Tomorrow is finally the last phase.

[ So, Seibo was to be my last opponent. ]

Reporter:
Will this result in consistent matches with the Four Lords of Heaven?

( Prompt 12 )
( A. At any rate, that's the result I'm going for after this. )
    { A +1 }
( B. Win or lose, it's very important )
    { H +1 }

( 12A )
YY:
This time, all I'm thinking about is that I cannot lose this match.
If I lose I have to start from scratch. |
I expect that if I don't reach the Four Lords of Heaven, it's over. |
I've got to make the most of this chance!
( End 12A )

Reporter:
I'll be rooting for you in your match tomorrow.  Good luck!

YY:
Thank you very much!

( Fade out, in )

[ The last match of the Five Match Gauntlet.  A match with Seibo ]

Seibo:
Wellll, now.  Let's get started, eh?

YY:
.. Yes.

Seibo:
Alright.  Now how should hellohellopoppa go?

{ Note: I had absolutely no idea what he was saying here.  I'm not
that familiar with his real life counterpart so I didn't have
much to go on.  Apparently, YY had no idea either.  If anyone out
there knows, drop me a line.  The romanized Japanese was
 "heroheropappa." }

[ He-hellohello?  What's he talking about? ] |
[ I'm not exactly sure what he's saying, but I'm pretty sure that he's
trying to say that he's going to beat me down.  I think. ] |
[ I took a moment to get myself mentally prepared. ]

YY:
Let's go!

( Match 17: YY vs. Ro Seibo )
( If YY wins )

[ The last match was over and I wearily headed back to the waiting
 room. ]

Hikawa:
Exhausted?

YY:
Hikawa...

Hikawa:
You had a really good match.  The audience really enjoyed it.

YY:
Th-thank you very much.

[ I was totally shocked.  For Hikawa to be here much less paying me
a compliment.  But here he was and that was what he was doing. ]

Hikawa:
That class of match is part of the reason that the chance to eventually
become a maintstay was given to you. |
That same hunger and desire you've shown up to now is what we want you
to keep displaying.

YY:
I will!

( Fade out )

[ I finished wrapping up, and left down the hall. ]

Reporter:
Yamashita! |
I have a message from Koichi Sakagami.

YY:
Did you say Koichi?

[ My voice raised in surprise. ]

Reporter:
He says, "For the sake of our match, I'm also working hard, and I'm
also moving upwards."

YY:
So, Koichi...

[ So that was his message.  It made me really want to know just how
 far he's gotten. ]

YY:
What has he done recently?

Reporter:
Although he lost, he made his first challenge for the IGP title.

[ So he really was working hard... ]

YY:
..

( Fade out )

[ As I was also on the way to the championship, I thought about the
realization of what we planned. ]
[ The following day I spoke to President Shiba about it. ]

( Fade in )

Shiba:
..

YY:
Please grant my request!

Shiba:
Well, I understand your feelings.  My own feelings are to work it
out. |
But you do know that you're a member of Olive Japan, while he is in
another promotion. |
There are many reasons why it normally wouldn't happen and that's
just one of them.  As long as this promotion has existed it has very
seldom happened.

YY:
Yes.

Shiba:
.. |
Well, we'll see.  I'll think about it.  Maybe contact them and see
what they say.

YY:
Thank you very much!  Please, by all means!

( Fade out )

[ After they met and talked about it, they came to a conclusion. ] |
[ In the View Japan dome, a match between the team of Yamashita and
Ohbayashi against the team of Sakagami and Amamoto. ] |
[ I was disappointed that it wouldn't be a singles match, but it
still answer a lot of questions about Koichi and the fact that it
was happening at all was a great thing. ]

( Fade in )

[ The dome was completely filled to capacity and a big ovation erupted
as the four of us got in the ring. ]

YY:
Are you Koichi?  You look like him, but changed.

Koichi:
I could say that same about you. |
This tag match is the result of something you requested, isn't it?

YY:
Right.

[ With intense demeanors, we shook hands. ]

( Match 18: YY and Ohbayashi vs. Sakagami and Amamoto )
( If YY wins )

Koichi:
Yamashita... Today's match was the greatest.

YY:
Yes, it was.

Koichi:
But don't think that we're done.  From here on our battle truly
begins.  Someday, we'll go one-on-one.

YY:
Definitely!

( Fade out )

[ And so this big match drew to an end.  It was a big success and was
talked about for quite some time. ]

( Fade in )

Shiba:
Well done.

YY:
Not at all.  You were the one who made the match possible.

Shiba:
Haha.  It did turn out to be quite worthwhile. |
Well, while we're on the subject.  In the next series, in the last
bout, the challenger for the Triple Crown has not yet been decided. |
Considering your hot streak and what you've done, and considering your
latest achievements, you two will have a match to determine who will
be the number one contender.

YY:
Number one contender's match...

[ If I win, I will get a shot at the Triple Crown!  But... ]

Shiba:
Should you win over Togashi, I don't think anyone can rightfully claim
that you wouldn't deserve it. |
So he will be your opponent, and if you win... |
What's wrong, are you backing out?

YY:
No!  I'll fight hard to get to the Triple Crown match!

Shiba:
Right.  Do not make the rookie mistake of being too cautious.  Going
full force is the way to do it.

YY:
Yes, sir!

( Fade out, in )

Togashi:
You've made it this far, Yamashita.  You and I on this stage,
one-on-one.  This should prove to be very interesting.

YY:
Today, I absolutely won't quit... I will emerge the winner!

Togashi:
Likewise, I will not hold back either.  We have the same thing in
mind... let's go!

( Match 19: YY vs. Keiji Togashi )
( YY wins )

[ They would later refer to the match as "The Battle to The Death" and
rightfully so.  However, I eventually came out on top. ]

( Fade out, in )
[ I went back to the waiting room.  I was physically and emotionally
 drained. ] |
[ The price of victory was high. ]

( Fade out, in )

Reporter:
Yamashita! |
At last, a Triple Crown Title Match!

YY:
That's right. |
I've made it this far, and I had to get past Togashi to do it. |
There is no doubt in how strong Mikawa is, but I must not lose.

Reporter:
Good luck!

( Fade out )

[ Mitsuhide Hikawa.  Acknowledged amongst his peers as Olive Japan's
 ace. ] |
[ This will be the fight of my life. ]

( Fade in )

Hikawa:
You've come a long way to get this far.  You have matured to be quite
the competitor.  You must fight fiercely.  Fight lightly and you will
lose.

YY:
I have made it this far.  I remember all of the veterans I've met and
known along the way. |
I owe a lot to them.  And to show them what it has mean I must go even
further!

Hikawa:
That is what I like to hear.  We've always put obstacles in your path
so that you'd work harder and get stronger each time. |
We wanted you to get up to this point, the highest battle for the belt
so that the heart of Olive Japan will continue to beat.

YY:
Here I go!

Hikawa:
Let's go!

( Match 20: YY vs. Mitsuhide Hikawa )
( YY wins )

Reporter:
That was a tremendous bout.  Congratulations on becoming the Triple
Crown Champion.

YY:
Thank you very much.  I couldn't have done it without the support of
the fans.

Reporter:
What has brought you to this standpoint?

YY:
Winning the Triple Crown.  I'll do my best to be a credit to Olive
Japan by representing it as the champion. |
I really want to thank the fans for today.

( Fade out, in )

[ I returned to the locker room to be alone for a moment.  The title
was really in my hands.  My childhood dream has come true. ] |
[ Coach Jakugen, I hope I made you proud...  Koichi, I hope this
 encourages you... ] |
[ At that point, someone patted me on the shoulder. ]

Akisawa:
You've really overtaken me.  To be quite honest, it's pretty
mortifying. |
On the other hand, I realize that you will truly be a great rival,
which makes me happy has it gives me a goal to overtake you in return.

YY:
Akisawa.

Togashi:
You were pretty strong, Yamashita.  You were able to beat Hikawa. |
There's no mistaking that you are OJP's top wrestler.  Congratulations!

YY:
Thank you very much!

Togashi:
From here on out, you'll be facing a great number of challenges for
what you now hold. |
You'll defend the championship who knows how many times, but no matter
what, always keep the mindset that you will not lose!

YY:
Right!

Akisawa:
No doubt I will be one of the challengers, and you better do your best
to defend it! |
To get where you are is the main goal of us all.

YY:
Yes, I'll do my best to defend.

( Fade out )

[ Two days later I manage to successfully defend against Toshiie Kazama.
Shortly afterwards I was summoned for a meeting. ]

( Fade in )

Shiba:
I've called you here to tell you about the upcoming pro wrestling summit.
View Japan will also be going.

YY:
I see...

[ I didn't think anything was out of the ordinary. ]

Shiba:
We're thinking of putting you in for the main event.

YY:
A singles match?  Against who?

Shiba:
Whoever the IGP Champion will be at the time in a non-title singles
match.

YY:
At the time?  We don't know who it will be?

Shiba:
There's a title match going on tonight.  The card is... |
Crusher Hatamoto versus Koichi Sakagami.

YY:
!!

[ I was totally overwhelmed by this tremendous news.  Shiba grinned
 and laughed. ]

Shiba:
Against their champion, their representative, it will make for the
greatest of matches.

YY:
Thank you very much!

( Fade out )

[ I was really stunned.  For the pro wrestling world, for the first
time, VJP and OJP were having a cross-promotional match between
 champions. ] |
[ And then I realized that this greatest of matches could be between
 Koichi and myself... ]

( Fade in )

[ I'm hoping to get word of the results of the IGP title match. ] |
[ You have to win, Koichi!  You have to make our dream match happen! ]

Reporter:
The result is in!

[ I was holding my breath. ]

Reporter:
At 27:45 into the match... |
Sakagami wins by pinfall!

[ He did it!  I lept to my feet as I heard the news. ]

Reporter:
The match is set!  You'll go up against Sakagami.

( Fade out )

[ I don't remember much about what was talked about after that. ] |
[ My mind was completely on training for the match. ]

( Fade in )

Hikawa:
Finally, hm?

Akisato:
Get out there, Yamashita.  Get out there and do it.

Kobuchizawa:
Give it your best.  This is your big moment, right?

Akisawa:
You've got to dig deep.

Hikawa:
We'll all be watching.  For the fans, the audience and us,
the wrestlers, give it everything you've got!

[ I gathered my strength. ]

YY:
Here I go!

( Fade out, in )

Koichi:
..

YY:
..

Koichi:
It's really... coming true.

YY:
Yeah.  The dream we had back in the Jakugen Dojo.

Koichi:
Heheh, on this great stage I'll beat you and be the best in Japan.
Not bad, eh?

YY:
Don't be ridiculous.  I'm the one who's going to win.

Koichi:
Heheheh...

YY:
Heheheh... |
Everyone watch well.  We are bringing into being the wrestling of the
next millenium.

Koichi:
Watch the beginning of a new age!

YY:
Let's go!

Koichi:
Right!

( Match 21: YY vs. Koichi Sakagami )
( YY wins )

[ The fans broke out into a non-stop cheer.  This was the very core of
pro-wrestling, and the chorus of cheering resounded throughout the
 arena. ]

Koichi:

YY:
Ah, but even though I don't know when we'll lock up again, we
definitely will sometime.

Koichi:
Absolutely!  I won't let you get away that easy!

( Fade out )

[ The cheers were neverending, even long after we left the ring... ]

( Fade in )

YY:
It deserved an award as Match of the Year, don't you think?

Shiba:
Yes, and an award for Wrestler of the Year, too.  The formal award
is why I've asked you here.

YY:
Wrestler of the Year award you say... what?!

[ The Wrestler of the Year honors is awards by the votes of the press
and the fans.  Every year it is given to the best wrestler in their
 view. ]

Shiba:
You have really done well.  The award agrees with my own opinion of
you.

YY:
Thank you, President Shiba...

Shiba:
I must be getting a bit too old.

YY:
I don't think so... what I have accomplished is thanks to you, to
Tommy, to Hikawa and everyone else. |
I owe all of you a great debt, and in regards to that debt I will
continue to do my best!

Shiba:
Yes.  I'm counting on you.

( Fade out )

[ The names of Yamashita and Sakagami would go down as greats in the
world of Japanese pro wrestling.  We would continue to have
 matches. ] |
[ Our matches raised the bar and breathed new life into the Japanese
 wrestling word. ] |
[ And then... ] |
[ It brought about a third, golden age of professional wrestling. ]

E. View Japan

[ In 1972, Victory Musashi begun the promotion pursuing a Strong
Style as its basis. ] |
[ It is one of the two major Japanese promotions, and continues to
 achieve great success. ] |
[ Pro wrestling is not the only style.  There are many different styles
blending together, and the promotion has many fans. ] |
[ I'm very fortunate and very happy to be a part of such a first rate
 organization. ]

( Fade in )

[ I began work in the group.  My debut match is against Shizuka. ]

Hatamoto:
Today's your debut, eh Yamashita?

YY:
Y-yes!

[ Crusher Hatamoto had come to speak to me in the waiting room before
 the match. ] |
[ Hatamoto has pushed his way into becoming View Japan's ace. ] |
[ The lethal Crusher, a heroic figure who possesses more than enough
deadly strength, has naturally risen to the top. ]

Hatamoto:
Finally time for your debut.  Well then, how's your state of mind?

YY:
W-well, I feel a bit overwhelmed but I'll do my best.

Hatamoto:
That's what you'll need to do.  It's going to be different from
sparring from here on.

YY:
.. It'll be in front of an audience.

Hatamoto:
Come on, now, get yourself up for this.  If you don't you'll regret
it later!

YY:
Y-yes.

Hatamoto:
Otherwise, you won't know what winning is! |
You've got to make your opponent well aware of your confidence!
Got it?

YY:
I'll, I'll do it!

Hatamoto:
Now that's what I'm talking about!  Now focus that as you go!  Get out
there!

YY:
Right!

[ Thanks to Hatamoto, I now had the spark to get out there for my
 debut! ]

( Fade out, in )

[ Just as I expected of a major promotion, the seats are packed with
spectators.  I've got to do all I can to be at the peak of this. ]

Shizuka:
Debut match, I hear.  I will not hold back my hand against you here,
though. |
So you've got to do the same!

( Prompt 8 )

A. I won't do anything less! ( A +1 )
B. Let's make this a success. ( H +1, A -1 )

( Choice 8A )

Shizuka:
Well said!  You've got guts.

( End 8A )

( Choice 8B )

Shizuka:
Yeah, let's.

( End 8B )

( Match 4: Yamashita vs. Shizuka )

[ Today's opponent is Suiko. ] |
[ Although his physical strength has weakened his skills as a
technician are as strong as ever. ] |
[ Boasting overwhelming power, Keisuke was able to beat him once,
 but not twice. ]

Shizuka:
Oh, today your opponent is Suiko is it?

YY:
Yeah.  I have to watch out for his Wakigatame, I think.

Shizuka:
Haha, well keep a very close eye on his movement for that very
reason. |
You can steal one from him if you're careful.

YY:
Yes!

( Match 5: Yamashita vs. Suiko )

[ I'm going to be facing Raging Hiro today. ] |
[ The general consensus is that he has good inside work and
is support for a tag team. ] |
[ However, as an individual he has won the Junior World Championship
so he is no pushover. ]

Hatamoto:
Hey, how are you Yamashita?

YY:
Not bad, thanks for asking.

Hatamoto:
Looks like you've been doing quite well lately, hasn't it?

YY:
I'm working with all my might.

Hatamoto:
Well, keep it up.  At this rate the promotion will think well of you.

YY:
Think well?

[ Hatamoto left before giving an answer. ]

YY:
Wonder what he meant...

( Match 6: Yamashita vs. Hiro )

[ Amidst the many matches I've had since my debut, I've come to be
regarded as a young tiger in the organization. ] |
[ And then, one day, I was called to the office of Rikimaru. ]

YY:
Overseas tour, hm?

Hatamoto:
Right.  Your recent efforts have led us to organize this venture.
Will you go?

YY:
Of course, I'd be more than willing!

[ VJP's wrestlers are sometimes sent on overseas tours. ] |
[ I've never been in a different country, in their rings
using their style of fighting.  It'd be an opportunity to
 learn. ] |
[ Recently, when Amamoto returned from such a tour he quickly
became one of the top group of wrestlers. ] |
[ Such a tour is a great opportunity.  And such an opportunity
 cannot be passed up. ]

Rikimaru:
You'll leave on the second, for three days.  Absorb all you can
from their style.

YY:
Understood.

{ Note: After the American tour, upon your return to View Japan,
you will either join the FWO, or Shikigun.  To join the
FWO, you must use either Technical or Rough moves the
most and have Ambition of 4 or higher.  Otherwise, you
       will join Shikigun }

( Fade out )

[ And so, my tour in America's WWC was decided. ]

( Plane landing )

( Fade in )

[ Well, I'm not here in America for sightseeing.  I need to get
started on my training. ] |
{ Already, tomorrow I have a match here in America. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ I don't believe my eyes that my opponent is the person standing
in front of me. ] |
[ The Spike, one of WWC's top stars. ] |
[ A big opportunity, one with a lot of pressure! ]

Spike:
Hey!  You one of Junto's students?

[ Junto was another wrestler who came here and become one of the
top guys when he returned to VJP. ] |
[ On top of that he was one of Spike's strongest rivals. ]

Spike:
I hope you put the same amount of life into your fight.  I'm
counting on you, rookie.

YY:
As big a star as my opponent is, it would not do to give anything
less than my best! |
I'm coming with everything I've got!

Spike:
Okay, that's what I want.

( Match 7: Yamashita vs. Spike )

[ Today my contact here in America, Azteca Dragon, introduced me
 to his training gym. ]

( Fade in )

Azteca:
While you're here, feel free to use my gym.

YY:
This will be a big help.  I can spend my time well here.

( Burton shows up )

{ Note: This encounter with Burton will differ if your wrestler is
       going to end up joining the FWO or Shikigun. }

YY:
Hm?

Burton:
Uwoooooooooooah!

YY:
Woah!

Burton:
Hm?  Where have I seen you before?

Azteca:
Hey, Burton.

Burton:
Oh, hey Musei.

Azteca:
This is one of VJP's wrestlers who has come here on an overseas
tour.

Burton:</pre><pre id="faqspan-4">
Hey, I know tough it can be to do a tour overseas.  However...
Once in the ring, it doesn't matter.

YY:
Thank you, Burton. |
My name is Yuji Yamashita.  Nice to meet you.

Burton:
I'll remember it.  Later!

[ With another yell, Burton left. ]

YY:
What did he say?

Azteca:
He's always like that.

YY:
I see.  He seems like he'd be fearsome in the ring.

Azteca:
But you'd still want to lock up with him, wouldn't you?

YY:
..I don't think I'm strong enough yet!

[ Today, I'm facing Big Steiner, who has been in Japan... ] |
[ His raw power and suplex skills are well known. ] |
[ But I'm not backing down.  I am going to get right in his face! ]

( Match 8: Yamashita vs. Steiner )

[ After this last match it will be the end of the overseas tour
and I will be returning to Japan. ]

Masa:
So how was your visit?

[ Masa had come to visit.  He was also going to be going back to
 Japan. ] |
[ He came for a quick visit, as he had to see my match. ]

YY:
I've learned quite a few things here.  It's really been a great
trip.  The reaction of the fans is similar to that in Japan in
how it's straight from the ring.  It's been interesting.

Masa:
I see.  So you've learned about how to get the crowd more into the
match.

YY:
You think so?  I'm not sure I understand it myself.

Masa:
Well, don't worry about it.  Isn't it your turn next?

YY:
You're right.  Here I go!

[ My last opponent in this tour is Blood Beat. ] |
[ In atmosphere of American pro wrestling which emphasizes image
and gimmicks , he is one of a rare breed who still places importance
on the actual wrestling. ] |
[ He has been a champion many times over and he possesses a tremendous
amount of experience.  Of the matches during this tour, he is the
 strongest opponent! ]

( Match 9: Yamashita vs. Beat )

{ Here the View Japan route branches.  As stated before, to join the
FWO, you must use either Technical or Rough moves the most and have
 Ambition of 4 or higher.  Otherwise, you will join Shikigun }

E1. Shikigun

[ While I was away, View Japan had changed quite a bit. ] |
[ Kouno, along with Amamoto and the others, had formed a new group,
 the FWO Japan. ] |
[ FWO Japan and Shikigun were battling it out on a consistant basis,
and this is the environment I returned to. ] |
[ It was on that day, when I was to return to the rings of Japan,
as I stepped into the arena. ]

Hatamoto:
Hey!  Yamashita!  How was your tour?

YY:
Um, yes!  I learned a lot during it!

Hatamoto:
I see.  Well, things are certainly different around here now.  You'll
need to use all that you've learned!

YY:
Right!  Certainly along with your group!

Hatamoto:
That's what I like to hear.  With this new battle the atmosphere here
is a more heated one!

YY:
Right!

Hatamoto:
For View Japan and all of pro wrestling we've got to fight hard. |
Don't you think?

YY:
Exactly.

Hatamoto:
I think we could use you in our efforts to rise against them. |
Together we'll show what pro wrestling really is.

[ Hatamoto and I felt the same way.  The way things are now, VJP
will slowly waste away. ] |
[ And as a result, it would lead to the overall decay of the Japanese
wrestling world.  Such is the influence of VJP. ] |
[ I don't want to see that happen, so we need to pull VJP away from
 that fate. ] |

YY:
Right!  Count me in!

Hatamoto:
Alright!  We'll make VJP strong again!

YY:
Yes!

( Fade out )

[ On that day, I was quickly made a member. ] |
[ Upon my return to Japan, I found myself feuding with the FWO. ]

[ From what I saw, this battle with the FWO would be one of survival.
Whoever is left is the one who will win. ] |
[ Amidst all of this, my first match since my return was decided. ] |
[ It was quickly set to be one against Amamoto. ]

( Fade in )

Amamoto:
Hey you!  You've shown your face here, hey!  Here, I'm going to destroy
you, hey!

YY:
I see what you're trying to do, but you're not going to have fun at
my expense! |
You're going down, and that's what I WILL do.

Amamoto:
Your spirit is willing, but you are too weak, hey!

( Match 10: Yamashita vs. Amamoto )

Reporter:
You've been doing well.  What are your feelings regarding your match
with Amamoto?

( Prompt 9 )

A. He hit pretty hard... for someone of his skill level.
  { H +1, B +1 }
B. Ill-prepared.
  { H -1, A +1 }
C. Again!  I want to fight him again!
  { H +2 }

( Your choice of words doesn't seem to change the dialog )

Reporter:
I see.

YY:
We're looking to lead the promotion into the coming century.  That's
our main goal. |
If the FWO means to get in the way, we'll eliminate them.

Reporter:
From your one match since your return, it looks like you've grown and
learned a lot about fighting in the ring.

YY:
Overseas, I had a lot of people to learn from.  It's no surprise some
of it rubbed off on me.

Reporter:
Will you be participating in the V1-Trymax Tournament?

YY:
It'll be a good way to get our point across to make a statement in the
tournament.  In that way, I hope I am entered.

( Fade out , in )

YY:
Phew...

Shizuka:
Need some medicine?

YY:
Eh?

Shizuka:
You've gotten their attention. |
It's not just Amamoto.  There's Koshima, Takahashi, and Sakata.

YY:
.....

Shizuka:
Looks like things are going to get fun.  Good luck in the V-1.

YY:
Yes, I'll give it my best shot.

[ Just as Shizuka said, things are starting to get "interesting."
Everyone will be kicking it up a notch. ] |
[ But it's not going to be fun! ]

( Fade out )

[ The way to the top in View Japan is paved by the V1-Trymax
tournament.  It's about to start. ]

{ Path branches based on win or loss }
( Match 11: Yamashita vs. ( big guy ) )
( If Yamashita wins )

Nakaoka:
Yamashita! |
Your first match was a victory.  Congratulations!

YY:
Not yet!  Congratulations are still early!  I still have a ways
to go to be the tournament winner!

( Transition )

YY:
One down!

( Fade out, in )

Shizuka:
Next is Kouda, eh?

YY:
Right.

[ Although he has slipped recently, at one time he was one of the
 top wrestlers. ]

YY:
But I can't let myself lose.  I have to go with full force!

{ Path branches based on win or loss }
( Match 12: Yamashita vs. Kouda )
( If Yamashita wins )

Shizuka:
Did you say Yamamoto was your next opponent?

YY:
Yeah.

Shizuka:
Yamamoto.  This seems like it'll really be fun.

YY:
You think so?

Shizuka:
You'll have to get up pretty early in the morning to pull one
over on him.

YY:
I'll enjoy the match, but beyond that I still have my sights set
on being the tournament winner!

( Fade out, in )

Yamamoto:
....

[ Yamamoto had not a word to say before the match, which only added
to the pressure.  He had the air of a killer.  However! ]

YY:
I have to do it!

{ Path branches based on win or loss }
( Match 13: Yamashita vs. Yamamoto )
( If Yamashita wins )

[ It was time for the deciding match of the tournament, and in the
other branch, in the semifinals, Hatamoto won over Amamoto. ]

Hatamoto:
Hard to believe that we're going to have to fight each other, isn't
it? |
Even amidst the feud.

YY:
Hatamoto...
Today, I have to overcome you!

Hatamoto:
If you can.  Fight with a killer instinct!

( Match 14: Yamashita vs. Hatamoto )
( If Yamashita wins )

[ After the match I was surrounded by the press. ]

Reporter:
It was a tremendous match.  Congratulations on winning the
tournament!

YY:
Thank you very much!  I'm glad I was able to pull it off!

Reporter:
And now, you are granted a title match for the IGP Title.  What
are your feelings regarding the title match?

YY:
Well, I haven't really thought about it that much yet. |
I'm still absorbing the fact that I won the tournament and had
to get past Crusher Hatamoto to do it.

Reporter:
So you are overwhelmed with emotion.

YY:
I sure am!  But still in the end, today is just a step more!

Hatamoto:
You were pretty strong.  It never occurred to me how far you
would get.  Today I lost.  Congratulations!

[ Hatamoto shook my hand. ]

YY:
Thank you very much!

Hatamoto:
But it's not over yet!  Once you get that belt, I'm going to
challenge you for it! |
Win that belt!

YY:
Right!

[ Hatamoto had me shooting for sky. ]

Shizuka:
Finally, eh?  I'll be your second out there.

YY:
Thank you very much.

Yamamoto:
Stay relaxed.  Stay focused and keep after him.  Eventually, you'll
get that one breakdown in his defenses and that will be your opportunity
to seize.

YY:
Right!

Hatamoto:
..Good luck.

YY:
Thanks!

YY:
I took a moment to steady myself, and gather myself up.

YY;
Yeah!!

[ I will not fail in bring the belt back! ]

( Fade out, in )

Yamato:
I don't know how long my aging body will hold out against all of you
challengers... but one thing is for certain, my spirit will simply not
yield! |
Do you understand that is what holding the IGP title means?  Do you
have the heart to hold it?

YY:
I'll show you that I understand it well!

Yamato:
We'll see how prepared you really are.  And then we'll see who will
hold the title! |
And who will continue the legacy of Victory Musashi...

YY;
I'll show that I'm worthy of all of that!  Everything you throw at me
I will take!

Yamato:
Heheheh...Let's see if we can count on you. |
You have to have a passion for pro wrestling, a desire to take on all
comers.  Keep that in mind.

YY:
Let's go!

{ Route branches based on win/loss }
( Match 15: Yamashita vs. Yamato )
( If Yamashita wins )

Reporter:
Congratulations on your championship.

YY:
Thank you.  I've made it this far.

Reporter:
What will you be aiming for now?

YY:
Anyone can come after me if they like!  FWO or whoever believes
they have what it takes to fight me I'll be glad to take them on. |
We'll see if I can hold the title as Yamamoto and Hatamoto have!

[ Once the pressed left, and I was left alone, I held the belt tightly
in my hand.  This was the moment I had been dreaming of since I was
a child, and now it had come true. ] |
[ Coach Jakugen, I hope I made you proud...  Koichi, I hope this
 encourages you... ] |
[ At that moment, someone tapped me on the shoulder. ]

Shizuka:
You did it.

Keisuke:
You really beat him!

Yamamoto:
I almost can't believe it.  You did it.

Hatamoto:
At last you made it.  Looks like I have a new rival!

YY:
Hatamoto.

Hatamoto:
Alright, everyone!  Break out the sake!

{ Note: For those of you who might not know, sake is rice wine.
       It's my personal favorite alcoholic beverage. }

( Fade out )

[ That day the members of Shikigun had a big party. ] |
[ ....... ] |
[ To tell the truth, there was still something missing. ] |
[ *hic* ]

( Fade in )

[ On a day soon after, I was called to the front office. ]

Rikimaru:
Oh, you made it.

YY:
I'm here...

Rikimaru:
Let's get started.

[ Rikimaru spoke of a different kind of match. ] |

YY:
I see...

[ I can't say I was too thrilled with it. ]

Rikimaru:
Your opponent will be Kosai Nogawa.  Musashi scouted him in his
promotion and he is their champion.

YY:
!

[ On top of being a fighter with in a glamourless environment,
a win for him would be of great value. ] |
[ In that way, for me, as the champion, to lose would cause VJP
to lose a great deal of credibility.  It's a high-risk,
 high-return proposition. ]

Rikimaru:
What'll you do?  If you reject, I think we can have Hatamoto replace
you.

YY:
I'll do it!

Rikimaru:
I see.  Lately, you've had dazzled eyes, I think. |
But I do think we can depend on you in this.

YY:
Yes!

( Fade out )

[ I spent a little time with Hatamoto.  We went over a few things
 for the fight. ] |
[ Winning for winning's sake wasn't enough.  The reputation of pro
wrestling was at stake.  It was very important to make a good
 showing. ]

( Match 16: Yamashita vs. Nogawa )

Shizuka:
It's an ideal time, isn't it?

YY:
You think so?

[ Ever since the challenge match, we've been in good shape.
Afterwards, business has been doing better and more fans have
 shown interest. ]

Shizuka:
Recently, Hatamoto and everyone have been backing you up in times
of trouble.

YY:
That's true...

[ I've faced rivals one by one in this promotion. ] |
[ But there's one thing amidst all of this that I've been wanting. ] |
[ Something that would make me very happy.  I went out into the
 corridor. ]

( Fade out, in )

Reporter:
Yamashita!

YY:
I have brought a message from Koichi Sakagami...

Reporter:
Koichi?!  What did he say?

[ My voice raised is surprise. ]

Reporter:
He said, "I want to challenge you, so I'm working hard to do so.
You keep at it in the meantime."

YY:
So that's what he said...

[ Come to think of it, I wonder how he has done.  While in a
different promotion, I haven't heard much in the way of news. ]

YY:
How has he been doing lately?

Reporter:
He recently won the Tag Title.  He lost, but he had a Triple Crown
title match.

YY:
So he has been working hard... |
....

( Fade out )

[ This is what had been bothering me since winning the championship.
I need to do something to make what I need a reality. ] |
[ I need to propose this to Rikimaru. ]

( Fade in )

Rikimaru:
....

YY:
Please grant my request!

Rikimaru:
Well, I understand your feelings in this.  I had high aspirations
when I was in your position as well.  So, I know were you're coming
from, but what you're asking is difficult.

YY:
Yes.

Rikimaru:
Well, we'll see what we can do.  I bring it up at the next meeting.

YY:
Thank you very much!

[ After that, the had a meeting to discuss it.  They came to a
 conclusion. ] |
[ At the View Japan Dome.  Yamashita and Takahashi versus Sakagami
 and Ohbayashi.

( Match 17: Yamashita and Takahasi vs Sakagami and Ohbayashi )

Koichi:
Yamashita... Today's match was the greatest.

YY:
Yes, it was.

Koichi:
But don't think that we're done.  From here on our battle truly
begins.  Someday, we'll go one-on-one.

YY:
Definitely!

( Fade out )

[ And so this big match drew to an end.  It was a big success and was
talked about for quite some time. ]

( Fade in )

YY:
As I thought, he also wanted a singles match.

Shizuka:
Well, I hate to say it but I'm not sure there will be a next time.
That was difficult enough to bring about.

YY:
I guess so...

( Sounds of bustling people )

Shizuka:
What's all the noise about?

YY:
I'll go take a look.

( Transition )

YY:
What in the world is going on?

Yamamoto and Handen:
Um...

YY:
What is it?

YY:
Ah, just a moment!

Reporter:
Yes?  I'm a little pressed for time...

YY:
What is all this about?

Reporter:
I just got here, but it seems like Nogawa from ULO has come and
attacked the front office!

YY:
What?

Reporter:
I'm off!

[ I wanted to see what was going on myself. ]

( Transition )

[ When I got there whatever was going on ended.  I got there just in
time to see Nogawa emerge. ] |

YY:
Rikimaru!  What happened?  Is anyone from the front office hurt?

Rikimaru:
No one is hurt.  Everything is okay.  He came flying in here is all.

YY:
Why did he do that?

Rikimaru:
Ever since the challenge, the press have been criticizing him.

( Fade out )

[ From this matter the plan to put VJP against ULO emerged.  In the
ring, we were going to settle this. ] |
[ It progressed to a match between Nogawa and Hatamoto. ] |
[ Nogawa's lack of common sense to raise his hand against the workers
of the front office made my stomach turn.  I hoped Hatamoto gave
 him what he deserved. ]

( Fade in )

[ I was originally going to see about a singles match with Sakagami,
but this turn of events jolted by the ULO has made me think that
such a thing would be futile now. ]

YY:
Excuse me?

?:
What did you say?!  You're the president of the athletes!
What are you thinking saying something like that? |
Think about it for a while!  You're banned from the building!

[ What's this? ]

( Hatamoto emerges and quickly leaves )

YY:
Um....

[ It was Hatamoto.  Did they say banned?  Hatamoto? ] |
[ Afterwards a number of people emerged.  The company president as
 well as Rikimaru. ]

Rikimaru:
Why are you here?

YY:
Well I came here to talk about something, but...
About Hatamoto, what happened?

Rikimaru:
We were having trouble negotiating the rules for the match with
Nogawa.  There was a dispute with the president.

YY:
And that's how he got banned?

Rikimaru:
Hey, were you eavesdropping?

YY:
No, when I came in through the door that's all I heard.

Rikimaru:
Nogawa was excluded from the announcement...

YY:
I, I see...

[ Eventually, there wasn't much more said.  I felt my confidence in
the company president drop from doling out the suspension... ] |
[ For the event, I was scheduled for a match against Handen. ]

( Match 18: Yamashita vs. Handen )

[ Once my match was over, I went to see what would become of the
match between Hatamoto and Nogawa. ]

( Transition )

[ Nogawa was ready.  His demeanor was set for a fight, a perfect mask
 of stone. ]

( Transition )

[ As for Hatamoto, there was something not right about his demeanor.
It didn't seem to me that he was ready for a counterattack. ] |
[ Why?  Why was it... ] |
[ I couldn't figure it out, and Hatamoto was not be ready for Nogawa. ] |
[ There was something I was forgetting.  I approached ringside. ]

( Transition )

[ Nogawa hopped into the ring and posed.  Then he grabbed the mike... ]

Nogawa:
Hey hey hey hey!  Is that it?  You've got to be joking!  Yo!  That's
what pro wrestling is, a joke! |
Fans of View Japan, look and remember this!

[ Such words were lethal.  It was an elaborate way to cause a riot. ] |
[ I had to cut this off at the source and go after Nogawa.  I had to
 prevent any further damage. ]

YY:
Such things are easy to say, but beat me if you can!  Let's see if you
can back up what you say!

Nogawa:
Back it up?  Back it up?  Hey, I'll beat you to an inch of your life!

( Fade out, in )

Rikimaru:
This is bad.  The front office is sure that a return match
would somehow make things worse.  How does one begin to combat the
statements he made?

YY:
This isn't just about one individual!  This time we have to worry about
what the fans think! |
At this rate all of pro wrestling will suffer!

Rikimaru:
I understand that.  I also want to continue with this.  I feel the same
way you do.

( Fade out )

[ I felt that if we were not allowed to follow through with this that
the president was not fit for his office. ] |
[ Win or lose, this is the last time we'll have anything to do with
 ULO. ]

( Fade in )

[ To prepare for the fight against him, I hit the dojo for special
 training. ]

YY:
Thanks for coming.  I'm ready.

Kaien:
Let's begin.

[ Kaien was kind enough to provide me with special training for the
 match. ] |
[ The training was done in total secrecy.  If anyone asked where I
was, I told them I came from the High Class Dome. ]

Kaien:
First we'll see how you deal with a punch.  Show me how you defend
against it.

YY:
Right!

[ And thus the special training began. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ The training was difficult, and we kept at it day after day.
The strength of pro wrestling and the strength of shootfighting
were totally different things.  At least that's how my body felt
 about it. ] |
[ In one week, the challenge match will replace the training. ] |
[ There was no considering him winning.  I had to make sure, for
the sake of pro wrestling that I won. ]

( Fade in )

Kaien:
Finally, tomorrow is the day.

YY:
Yes.  Thank you very much for going through the trouble of providing
this special training.  It meant a lot.

Kaien:
But I was surprised.  To tell the truth, I was worried how much you
would be able to absorb, but you learned a lot very quickly. |
Ever thought about entering the High Class promotion?

YY:
Eh?

Kaien:
Hahaha, just asking.  However, you'd always be welcome.

YY:
T-thanks.

( Fade out )

[ And then the day arrived. ]

Nogawa:
Yamashita!  Come and fight and be ready to die!  I will not be
pulling any punches!

YY:
You are overconfident!  All your yelling will be the best that you
manage!

Nogawa:
What are you talking about!  There is no strength in pro wrestling!
I'm going to annihilate you!  Get over here!

{ No branch for win or loss, but losing is -20 Popularity points
 which ensures a bad ending }
( Match 19: Yamashita vs. Nogawa )

[ I took the mike to counter the comments Nogawa made when he took
the mike the last time. ]

( Prompt 10 )

A. Talk him down the same way he did.
B. Make a dramatic spontaneous appeal to the fans. ( +20 Popularity )
C. Say nothing.  ( +10 Popularity )

( Choice 10B )

YY:
Hey, Nogawa.

[ The crowd went quiet. ]

YY:
There was no heart in your fight.  Why were you fighting? |
I was fighting to protect the name of pro wrestling, to protect my
my fighting spirit.  Why were you fighting, eh?  Some kind of sabotage
mission?  You're just a pawn! |
You didn't put any of yourself into that fight.  Anyone who does not
have the heart for the fight will not succeed. |
However, if you come without ulterior motives, with only a will to
fight, then I'll always be glad to lock up with you!  I'll be waiting!

[ I said what I needed to and tossed the mike away. ]

( Transition )

[ I got down from the ring, and the crowd came alive, the majority of
 which responded favorably. ]

( Fade out, in )

Reporter:
Yamashita! |
Congratulations!  Do you have any comments on the match with Nogawa?

YY:
I said it all when I was in the ring.

Reporter:
From the fans of pro wrestling and everyone involved,  Everyone is
thankful, I believe.

YY:
I think so.  I felt that upon hearing what I said, that people would
not look badly on it. |
The president of the company may not have been able to do anything,
but I felt what I could do was win.

Reporter:
So you're saying...

( Transition )

[ I think I might have gone too far.  I'm not sure why I said that. ] |
[ I think it was because of how I felt Hatamoto was treated that it
 came out. ] |
[ But whatever.  The purity of pro wrestling has been restored. ]

( Fade out, in )

[ I lost my head before but not I've settled back in.  The next series
was a IGP Title match with the challenger decided in a recent
 tournament. ] |
[ The winner was Hatamoto.  As the champion, I cannot lose my place.
 I must not lose! ]

Hatamoto:
I said that I'd come after you and the IGP Title if you won it.  And
now that day is here. |
And now I am the challenger.

YY:
How quickly I've come against my strongest challenge.  When I started
I never thought we'd be in this situation. |
However, I must win without fail!  Should I defeat you, I will truly
be the IGP Champion!

Hatamoto:
Let's go!

{ Path branches based on win or loss }
( Match 20: Yamashita vs. Hatamoto )
( If Yamashita wins )

Reporter:
It was a tremendous match.  Congratulations on your successful title
defense!

YY:
Thank you very much.

Reporter:
Looks like you have two victories over Hatamoto!

YY:
He's a great fighter.

Reporter:
Who will you be defending the title against next?

YY:
Anyone will do!  I am burning for the next challenge.  Anyone who wants
to take me on, I'll be waiting!

( Transition )

Hatamoto:
Yamashita!  You did it!  Congratulations!

YY:
Yes, I did!

Hatamoto:
You've really gotten strong!  Now you stand at the top of VJP!

YY:
Thank you very much!  This is the greatest feeling!

Hatamoto:
But it gets fierce from here on.  There will be many enemies coming
after you now, won't there? |
You will have to watch your back.  Your matches will be more pressure-
filled than ever before.  Be prepared.

YY:
Right.

Hatamoto:
At any rate, I'd like to challenge you again!  Until it's my turn once
again, don't let that belt slip from your hands!

YY:
Yes!

[ I had faced my strongest challenger, and now I could really say
 that I was the champion. }

( Fade out, in )

[ I was called to the office. ]

Rikimaru:
Well, the reason I've called you here is that the will be a pro
wrestling summit, which Olive Japan will also be attending.

YY:
I, I see...

[ I was not suspecting anything out of the ordinary. ]

Rikimaru:
And, we're thinking of putting you in the main event.

YY:
In a singles match?  Against who?

Rikimaru:
Whoever the Triple Crown Champion is at the time.

YY:
At the time?  Won't we know?

Rikimaru:
Well, tonight there is a title match.  The card is... |
Mitsuhide Hikawa defending against Koichi Sakagami.

YY:
!!

[ I was totally overwhelmed by this tremendous news.  Rikimaru
 grinned and laughed. ]

Rikimaru:
Whoever the champion will be, their representative will make for
the greatest of matches.

YY:
Thank you very much!

( Fade out )

[ I was really stunned.  For the pro wrestling world, for the first
time, VJP and OJP were having a cross-promotional match between
 champions. ] |
[ And then I realized that this greatest of matches could be between
 Koichi and myself... ]

( Fade in )

[ I'm hoping to get word of the results of the Triple Crown title
 match. ] |
[ You have to win, Koichi!  You have to make our dream match happen! ]

Reporter:
The result is in!

[ I was holding my breath. ]

Reporter:
At 42:38.... |
Sakagami wins by pinfall!

( Fade out )

[ I don't remember much about what was talked about after that. ] |
[ My mind was completely on training for the match. ]

( Fade in )

Hatamoto:
Finally, eh?

Yamamoto:
Get out there and do it, Yamashita.

Shizuka:
Good luck.  This is the greatest event in history, isn't it?

Keisuke:
Get psyched!

Hatamoto:
Everyone will be watching.  For the fans, the press, and we, the
wrestlers!

[ I gathered my strength. ]

YY:
Here I go!

( Transition )

Koichi:
....

YY;
....

Koichi:
It's really... coming true.

YY:
Yeah.  The dream we had back in the Jakugen Dojo.

Koichi:
Heheh, on this great stage I'll beat you and be the best in Japan.
Not bad, eh?

YY:
Don't be ridiculous.  I'm the one who's going to win.

Koichi:
Heheheh...

YY:
Heheheh... |
Everyone watch well.  We are bringing into being the wrestling of the
next millenium.

Koichi:
Watch the beginning of a new age!

YY:
Let's go!

Koichi:
Right!

( Match 21: Yamshita vs. Sakagami )
( If Yamashita wins )

Koichi:

YY:
Ah, but even though I don't know when we'll lock up again, we
definitely will sometime.

Koichi:
Absolutely!  I won't let you get away that easy!

( Fade out )

[ The cheers were neverending, even long after we left the ring... ]

[ The pro wrestling summit at the dome was an overwhelming success.
It brought about a boom to the industry. ]

YY:
It deserved an award as Match of the Year, don't you think?

Rikimaru:
Yes, and an award for Wrestler of the Year, too.  The formal award
is why I've asked you here.

YY:
Wrestler of the Year award you say... what?!

[ The Wrestler of the Year honors is awards by the votes of the press
and the fans.  Every year it is given to the best wrestler in their
 view. ]

Rikimaru:
You have really done well.  The award agrees with my own opinion of
you.

YY:
Thank you, Rikimaru...

Rikimaru:
That time... when I saw you win Jakugen's dojo, you reminded me of
myself when I was your age.

YY:
Rikimaru...

Rikimaru:
I must be getting a little old.

YY:
I don't think so.  You, Sakagami, and I all trained under Coach
Jakugen...

( End View Japan path )

*** End of guide (for now) ***

V. Translation Notes:
As more paths are translated, the guide could begin to get confusing.
I'd appreciate input as to how to structure the guide to account for
diverging paths.

The T-shirt the coach wears contains the abbreviation of the motto of a
Japanese fuedal lord.  Literally, it says "Wind, Woods, Fire, Mountain."
The whole motto is:

"Swift like the wind,
Quiet like the woods,
Overwhelming like fire,
Immovable like a mountain."
