Yosuke Ide Mahjong Cram School
Introduction
Manual Translation and story mode rules
Introduction
Yosuke Ide is a 64 former Japanese Mahjong Champion. Born in Tokyo, he has
devoted his life to improving the conventional image of Mahjong. Often seen as
form of gambling, Ide wishes to promote “healthy Mahjong” as a game that can be
enjoyed by parents with their children. He wrote his graduate thesis on the
sociology of mahjong, and has often appeared as a Mahjong commentator on Fuji
TV. He held the Master Rank on 5 different occasions. He has written over 65
books about Mahjong and has stared in over 12 Mahjong games, from the NES era to
the current day.
Released on April 21st, 2000, this game is the 7th and last Mahjong game for the
N64. The game features interactive replays of the games of the 1997 Autumn Seta
Haisou Datsu Mahjong Japan Series, and features 20 of the players that played in
the series. Its main mode is a story mode competition that plays out over the
course of 2 years.
Mahjong came to Japan from China, and it exists in numerous forms. The 4 player
Riichi version is most popular in Japan. It can be compared to the Western card
game rummy. An explanation of how to play Mahjong is far beyond the scope of
this guide, but I recommend Light Grunty’s youtube channel and this free book by
Daiana Chiba:
