<INTRO>
///////
If you've played the Saturn game Guardian Heroes then THIS is where that
nutty combat system came from! I've never had a chance to read the Manga
nor watch the Anime of this series, but I think this is a great game with
lots of character. Hopefully the Manga is as good as this! The reason
I'm doing this FAQ is simple.. I own it, I like it and I wanna.
Is that good enough for ya?
Heh, heh...

--THE STATUS BARS--
When playing the game you should notice a picture of your character. Next
to this picture there should be two energy bars. The Yellow one is your
LIFE bar. The more this goes down the worse off you are... (Duh!)
The Blue bar underneath the Life bar is your SPIRIT bar. This is energy
that allows you to do Special Moves and DESPERATION moves! As you perform
special moves this will decrease (it can be built up again with the SPIRIT
CHARGE). When this drops to empty then you will be dizzied for a short
while (Hint: Do let it empty! :P). When your LIFE drops below 50%
and you have a full SPIRIT bar then your DESPERATION Move becomes available.
--LINE SWAY--
Yu Yu Hakusho operates on a Two-Tier system (a-la Fatal Fury 2) in which
you can jump to the "Backround" and continue your fight there. The
Line Sway Command will jump you to the Backround or Foreground depending
where you are.
--BACK DASHING--
Hitting the Backdash Command (X/Z on a 6B, B+C on a 3B) will cause your
character to hop back. In this small period, you will be invunerable
to attack until you land. This is quite useful against fireball-happy
opponents.
--BLOCKING--
A bit of a no-brainer here.. but, it's in the manual.. Holding C will
defend against Jumping and Standing Attacks/Special Moves/Desperations.
To defend against Ducking Attacks hold Down+C.
--COLLIDING GUARD--
If you attack an opponent when they attack you and the two hits connect,
then you get the Colliding Guard. When this happens there is a small
green burst of energy and the two attacks rebound off of each other with
no damage dealt to either character. This is kinda helpful when you're
low on energy. This does NOT apply to spiritual attacks! So don't start
hitting fireballs!!!
--NIDAN JUMP--
A double jump. Every character can do this. It helps as you cannot
air-block. Just jump forwards then in Mid-Air, jump Backwards.
--SPIRIT CHARGE--
Holding down the A or B buttons causes your character to pose and gain
Spirit Energy. Just be wary of your opponent when doing this, or you'll
get bopped!
--REACH ATTACKS--
Pressing Forward and an attack button causes you to perform a "Reach
Attack". Basically you lunge with an attack... these can be cancelled into
Special/Desperation Moves.
--THROWS--
Done by approaching your opponent and pressing Foward+A. But these have a
strange use. Not only do you inflict damage on your opponent, but you can
then juggle them into air with other attacks too! :)
Ex: Yuusuke can Throw an Opponent then follow-up with a Rei Gan.
Experiment with different characters to see what you can get!
--MID AIR COMBOS--
Yes, before SFVsX-Men.. Air Combos. Jump up to meet the enemy and start
hitting them. You can get a few weak attacks in before a heavy attack.
Or if the character has a Mid-Air special move then you can combo that!
--CHOUHATSU (TAUNT)--
Hitting A+B+C will make your fighter Pose for a sec. Some of them are
quite cool...

<CHARACTERS>
////////////
--YUUSUKE--
Yuusuke is the Main Character from the series (As far as I can figure) and
has been taught the Rei-Kou-Hadou-Ken fighting style by Genkai. Hot-Headed
and arrogant, Yuusuke is a force to be reckoned with.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Rei Gan = QCF+A or B
#Fireball Attack. Holding down the button will cause the energy to grow.
If you press C whilst charging the Rei Gan it will disappear. The next
Rei Gan you use will be the size of the Charged Rei Gan that you supressed.
Kuuchu Rei Gan = QCF+A or B in Mid-Air
#Mid-Air Rei Gan. You can't charge this one.
Shotto Gan = D, D+A or B
#A quick burst of energy pellets, kinda like E.Honda's HundredHandSlap.
Hyaku Retsu Ken = A or B repeatedly
#This is the Hundred Fist Punch! But you can keep it up as long as you
keep hitting the buttons.
(DESPERATION)
Rei Kou Rush = F, D, F+A or B
#Yuusuke dashes across the screen until he comes into proximity with the
opponent. He then launches into a 7-Hit Combo which makes the enemy fly
backwards as he fires a fully charged Rei Gan at them.
--KUWABARA--
Another Hot-Head. This time it's Master Kuwabara. A rival to Yuusuke who
wields a Rei-Ken (A sword of Light) as his Spirit weapon. Powerful yet
kind, Kazuma Kuwabara is a good ally or a fierce enemy.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Rei Ken = A+B together
#Kuwabara swipes with his Rei Ken. Can be done Standing/Mid-Air/Crouching.
Jigen Tou = D, U+A, B or C
#A three hit slash. A button = Far/B = Mid/C = Near
Rei Ken Zuki = QCF+A or B
#Kuwabara slides forward and thrusts with the Rei Ken.
Rei Shu Riken = D, D+A or B
#Fireball attack. The Rei Ken splits into three as it travels.
(DESPERATION)
Reiken Ranbu = D, D, F+A
#Kuwabara does a stationary 11-Hit combo with the Rei Ken
--KURAMA--
Kurama is a Spirit Fox from the Demon World who came to the Human world as
a baby. He is now a strikingly handsome young man who has a great interest
in Biology. This knowledge is also used as Kurama's form of defense, using
demonic plants to injure his enemies.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Rose Whip = A+B together
#Kurama does a little swing with his Thorned Whip
Bara Nage = QCF+A or B
#Fireball Attack. Kurama throws a rose at the enemy
Fuukaen Bujin = D, U+A or B
#Kurama spins around in a circle whipping up sharp leafs
Makai Shouku Butsu Shoukan = D, D+A, B or C
#This causes a Plant to rise from the ground. A=Far/B=Mid/C=Near
(DESPERATION)
Youko Hen Ge = D, F, D+A
#Kurama reveals his real form as he charges at the opponent with a mass
of poison vines in his hand.
--HIEI--
Hiei is a outcast Fire Demon. A great fighter with amazing speed, Hiei
uses Demonic Fire to vanquish his foes. He created his own fighting style
and used his knowledge to create the dangerous technique "Ja Ou En Satsu
Koku Ryuu Ha", with which he calls forth a Black Dragon made of Demon Fire.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Ja Ou En Satsu Ken = A+B together
#Hiei calls forth a Demon Flame Sword.
Rengoku Shou = QCF+A or B
#Hiei dashes forward with a few punches
Kuuchuu Rengoku Shou = QCF+A or B in Mid-Air
#Hiei floats in place whilst throwing a few punches
Iai Geri = D, D+A or B, then A or B again
#The first motion will make Hiei jump high into the air. (He's controllable
like this) The second button push will make him dive down, if the enemy
is within range Hiei will land on them then jump away whilst slashing them.
Ginzou = Hit F, F ,F, F
#A quick teleport
(DESPERATION)
Ja Ou En Satsu Koku Ryuu Ha = QCF, QCF+A or B
#Hiei summons the Black Fire Dragon as a BIG fireball attack. If you hold
the button down you can control the flight of the dragon. If the Dragon
should hit Hiei, then he will lose the ability to do the Desperation again
but will become a lot stronger.
--GENKAI--
The trainer of Yuusuke, Genkai's power was second to none in the Human
world. She is a Master of Rei-Kou-Hadou-Ken but has given most of her
power to Yuusuke. Grumpy and obnoxious, she'll not let anyone stand
in her way.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Rei Gan = QCF+A or B
#Same as Yuusukes' Rei Gan
Rei Kou Dan = D, D+A or B
#Similar to Yuusuke's Shotto Gan but has a bigger range
Rei Kou Upper = D, U+A or B
#A dashing Dragon Punch Style move
Kuuchuu Rei Kou Upper = D, U+A or B in Mid-Air
#Mid-Air variant of the above
Hyaku Retsu Ken = A or B repeatedly
#Faster than Yuusuke's... Can be done in Mid-Air too..
(DESPERATION)
Reiko Randa = F, D, F+A
#Like Yuusuke's, Genkai's desperation runs forward and delivers a 10-Hit
combo which launches the opponent up.. As she Rei Kou Uppers them!
--CHUU--
Umm... All I seem to know about this one is his fighting style is Sui-Ken
(Drunken Fist) A powerful character, with heavy hitting moves.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Ren Sui Youki Dan = QCF+A or B
#Same properties as Yuusuke's/Genkai's Rei Gan
Hyaku Retsu Sui Ken = A or B repeatedly
#Hmm.. See above...-_-
Shoulder Tackle = D, D+A or B
#Chuu launches himself at the opponent
Surprise Kick = D, D+A or B in Mid-Air
#Mid-Air dive kick.. Quite effective
Mawarikomi = A+B together
#Using this near an opponent makes Chuu run around them.
(DESPERATION)
Sui Fuu Ren Kyaku = QCF, UF+A
#Chuu jumps upward with 4 Roundhouse Kicks, then a Falling Headbutt.
When he lands he flexes his muscles as he poses. This also hits.
--JIN--
Some form of Wind Demon. Jin uses whirlwinds to pummel his(?) enemies.
An annoying character to play against.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Shura Senpu Ken = QCF+B
#Dashes forward with a Whirlwind encased punch
Double Senpu Ken = QCF+A
#Dashes forward with two Whirlward encased punches
Baku Fuu Shou Heki = D, U+A or B
#Jin spins 'round with an Axhandle punch, which turns him into a Whirlwind
Kuuchuu Fu Yuu = F, F in Mid-Air
#Mid-Air Dash
(DESPERATION)
Idou Baku Shou Heki = D, D+A+B
#Jin does a Baku Fuu Shou Heki, but you can control it. You can cancel it
by pressing A+B. That's a good idea, because he gets dizzy if you leave
him to finish the move.
--TOGURU: ANI--
The elder of the two brothers, Toguru Ani uses Butai (Body Weaponry) to
manipulate his body parts and use himself as a weapon. A bit sick really.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Zenhou Kou Shoku Shu = A+B together
#Does a strange pose as flesh-like tentacles fly out of him.
Chi Chuu Shoku Shu = D, D+A or B
#Toguru Ani plants his hand into the floor, as it jumps out ahead of him.
Yubi Bari = D, D+C
#This move causes his finger to elongate, as he pokes them with it!
Ken Hen Ge = QCF+A or B
#Toguru Ani turns his body into a spike, then flys at the opponent.
This can be done in Mid-Air and can be controlled.
Dummy = D, U+A, B or C
#This move makes Toguru Ani appear somewhere else as his body is a decoy.
(DESPERATION)
Ranbuu Ken = F, D, F, D+A
#This is just a Powered-Up version of the Ken Hen Ge. Controllable too!
--TOGURU: OTOTO--
The younger of the two. This one uses Kin'Niku Sousa (Muscle Manipulation)
to grow in size, mass and strength. A powerhouse who has enough strength
to push over a couple of houses..
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Shidan = D, D+A or B
#Does nothing until up close, where he flicks something at the enemy.
Katsu = A+B together (Reversal)
#Kinda just stands there posing. Hits up close tho'
Dash Upper = QCF+B
#Exactly as it says
Double Punch = QCF+A
#Not a Double Punch, but a Double hitting Punch...
Sou Wan Gou Shou = D, D+A or B in Mid-Air
#Diving Axhandle punch.
(DESPERATION)
100% Chuu no 100% = D, F, D+A
#Expands every muscle in his body and charges at the opponent!
--ITSUKI--
I know nothing of this character, save that he's fun to play with!
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Yaminade Shou Kan = D, D+A, B or C
#Itsuki stands and prays as two spectral fists appear. You then control
these to do your bidding.
Side Step Kick = QCF+A or B
#Jumps forward and delivers two powerful kicks
Ryuu En Kyaku = D, D+A or B in Mid-Air
#Diving Kick.
Teleport = D, U+A, B or C
#Umm.. Doing the move with A teleports to the right, B = Middle, C = Left
This can also be done in Mid-Air.
(DESPERATION)
Jikuu Touketsu = D+A+B
#Gets the Award for the easiest desperation! This move will freeze time
and the opponent with it. Only lasts for about 4 Secs.
--SENSUI--
Again, I don't know about this character. Looks like a villan and to be
honest.. The CPU is evil with him.
(SPECIAL MOVES)
Resshu Kou Kyuu Ha = QCF+A, B or C
#Interesting Fireball technique. Perform this move with A and the Fireball
is dropped to the floor and booted across it. The B version is Side Kicked
across the screen and the C Version is punted up at a diagonal.
Ki Kou Jyu = D, D+A or B
#This is like Toguru Ototo's Shidan.
Resshu Ken = A+B together (Reversal)
#Strike a pose, then counter with a Kick.
(DESPERATION)
Kyodai Resshu Kou Kyuu Ha = D, QCF+A, B or C
#Powered up version of the Resshu Kou Kyuu Ha.. Looks nice tho'
