Now I've got all the token stuff out of the way, let's roll!
Welcome to Christopher Hyde's Spyro: Season Of Ice Walkthrough. For
this guide, I have been using the European version of the game
(PAL). I don't know if the US version of the game is different, but
I seriously doubt it.
If you have any comments, criticisms or anything at all, just
e-mail me (
[email protected]). When e-mailing, please
follow these rules:
1.Put 'Spyro: Season Of Ice FAQ' as the subject, or something along
those lines. I get so many e-mails a day that, if you do this,
there is a greater chance I will respond. Courtesy also increases
the chances of me responding.
2.Any e-mail saying this FAQ is bad, making any rude comments or
trying to cause trouble will instantly be deleted. OK?
3.Read and re-read the FAQ before e-mailing me questions. Chances
are the answer will be in the guide.
4.Erm...thats it.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ D.About me. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
My name is Christopher Hyde and this is my fifth FAQ (see section
3E for details on my others). I decided to write the FAQ because
Spyro: Season Of Ice is a great game.
Anyway, that is the end of the 'about me' section and now comes the
beginner's guide to Spyro: Season Of Ice. This section basically
covers the essential gameplaying and, if you are on Winter Fairy by
now, you should know the stuff covered in this section, so you
don't really need to use this section. As I said before, it is
mainly for the beginner Spyro: Season Of Ice player, but you may
want to refer to the guide layout (O) for a guide on how to use the
walkthrough.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ E.Story. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
After the defeat of the Sorceress, many of her old rhynoc minions
were left out of work or had to take less-than-ideal day jobs. None
more so than Grendor, the rhynoc librarian at the Grand Central
Dragon Realms library. A small, meek figure, Grendor never made the
cut into the rhynoc army and desperately longed for a career
change.
One day, Bianca spent a few hours in the library researching ideal
vacation spots for a trip she was planning for Spyro, Hunter, and
herself. With all the travel books, Bianca mistakenly left the
Sorceress' Spell book behind. Finding the book, Grendor was
inspired by an ingenious plan. Flipping through the pages, he found
himself a transformation spell to change his meagre frame into a
towering mass of muscle and brainpower!
Wasting no more time, he read the spell aloud; too hasty even to
notice the book was turned upside down. Grendor wound up with bulk
and brainpower all right, but in the form of two heads, and a
migraine in both of his thick skulls. Frantically, Grendor searched
for some way out of his terrible predicament, finding only one
antidote listed in the appendix, the wings of 100 magical fairies.
Following the instructions, Grendor captured Zoe and casted a
magical spell, freezing the fairies in place throughout all the
Fairy Realms.
Using her last bit of magic, Zoe the fairy sends a frantic message
to the only one who can help them...
Spyro and his friends Hunter, Bianca and Sparx were relaxing on a
beach near the enormous Dragon Shores theme park.
Spyro was reflecting on the events of the last few months. He had
freed all the dragons from Gnasty Gnorc, who had frozen them all in
crystal. He had accidentally been warped to the lost world of
Avalar, when he freed the land from a regime of tyranny led by an
evil dictator, Ripto. He had also rescued the dragon eggs from the
Forgotten Worlds, where the Sorceress and her legions of rhynocs
had taken them. Hunter had also met Bianca, the Sorceress's
assistant there. She helped Spyro when she turned against the
Sorceress and Hunter was smitten with her. After they had all
returned from the Forgotten Worlds, Spyro decided that they needed
a break, so here they were at Dragon Shores.
He was about to drift off to sleep when Hunter startled him.
"Hey Spyro, I think I see a Flying Sheep Saucer heading straight
for us! Let's get out of here before it abducts us!" the tiger
yelled. Hunter had encountered a flying sheep saucer in the
Metropolis area of Avalar and had not quite been the same since. He
was constantly having deluded visions of them while the pair were
in the Forgotten Worlds and he was now on medication.
Spyro squinted to look and then rolled his eyes. "That's not a
Flying Sheep Saucer, Hunter, it's just a balloon" Spyro replied.
Bianca also sat up and the group watched as a red balloon drifted
across the sea towards them.
When it got closer to them, Bianca grabbed it and found something
attached to its string.
"Look... There's a note here from Zoe. It says 'Dear Spyro, I'm
using every last drop of my magic to send you this message. Someone
has cast a spell over the Fairy World, freezing fairies in Ice
Crystals. And we can't get out! Now the rhynocs are back and
collecting fairies one by one. I wish I knew what they were up to.
Please come back before it's too late." She read out.
"This is terrible, we have to go help Zoe." Spyro said, heroically.
"And all the fairies." Hunter added.
Bianca nodded. "While you go see what's happening in the Fairy
World, I'll check the Sorceress's Spell Book for something we can
use to find out who's behind all this."
Hunter looked puzzled. "You know Bianca, I haven't seen you
carrying the Spell Book in a few days."
"What do you mean? I never let it out of my sight. It's right in my
bag..." Bianca said, looking concerned. She pulled her bag closer
to her and rummaged around in it. "OH NO!" she exclaimed and then
looked back up at Spyro and Hunter.
"My Spell Book!" She cried in horror. "Where is it? I must have
left it at the library when I was picking up that travel book for
our Dragon Shores vacation. I've gotta go find it!"
"Bianca, while you find your Spell Book, Hunter, Sparx and I will
go find those fairies." Spyro told her.
"OK. See you soon!" called Bianca as Hunter, Spyro and Sparx walked
away.
The introduction sequence shows this, complete with pretty
pictures.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ F.Characters. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
SPYRO -
Species - Dragon.
Sex - M.
Life's great when you're a dragon, especially a famous one like
Spyro. He's quite a celebrity now he's defeated THREE nasty
dictators and freed hundreds of creatures from enslavement. Spyro
is the ideal dragon for the job of rescuing the fairies.
Confident and cocky, he often finds that the older dragons don't
appreciate his irreverence, but even they can't fail to admit his
bravery!
SPARX -
Species - Dragonfly.
Sex - M.
Spyro's best friend is a dragonfly named Sparx. He's a busy little
fella and loves to help Spyro collect treasure - after all, if he
stays near Spyro he's more likely to get fed (Sparx just LOVES
butterflies).
This might explain why, when Spyro's in danger, Sparx also defends
him against attack. He can take up to 3 hits. After that he darts
for cover. You can see how he's feeling by his colour.
Gold - Full health (3 hits left)
Blue - Medium health (2 hits left)
Green - Low health (Only 1 hit left)
If Spyro is attacked after Sparx has flown off, he'll lose a life.
If Sparx is low on health, or gone, just flame some small creatures
that release butterflies and he'll be back. When he eats a
butterfly he gets one point of health until he's back to full
health. Every now and again, Sparx will find a special butterfly (1
in 10) that restores him to full strength and gives Spyro an extra
life. Keep a look out for creatures that might release butterflies
and always try to make sure he's well fed.
HUNTER -
Species - Cheetah.
Sex - M.
A close friend to Spyro since his adventures in Avalar and the
Forgotten Worlds, Hunter is like a professional trainer. The skills
he teaches will help you navigate through this huge world. Hunter
is also an expert fairy hunter, so make sure you speak to him
regularly - he might even reward you with a fairy!
MONEYBAGS -
Species - Bear.
Sex - M.
Moneybags is all business. For a price, in gems of course,
Moneybags will deliver some amazing things. He can open up travel
routes, open portals and activate doors and bridges for *ahem* a
small fee. If you can afford it, you should say 'yes' to Moneybags'
demands. However, if you say 'no', you're likely to annoy the
greedy bear, which can be its own reward...
Moneybags has appeared in Spyro 2, when he was trying to get enough
gems to escape from Avalar and also in Spyro 3, when the Sorceress
was paying him to look after things. During the events of Spyro 3's
ending, he runs away to Spooky Swamp (a haunted swamp where the
inhabitants speak entirely in Haiku) to become a Haiku poet.
THE PROFESSOR -
Species - Mole.
Sex - M.
The Professor is a absent minded but kindly soul who accidentally
transported Spyro to Avalar in Spyro 2. He then made a brief
appearance in Spyro 3 when his island laboratory was being overrun
by rhynocs. He appears in this game twice: once in Honey Marsh and
once in another one of his laboratories in Time Machine Lab.
ZOE -
Species - Fairy.
Sex - F.
Zoe is a fairy who saves Spyro's progress through the Fairy World.
When you see her, get close to her and she will zap Spyro with a
progress-saving spell (how convenient). The next time Spyro loses a
battle, he returns to the last place Zoe zapped him if he has lives
remaining.
BIANCA -
Species - Rabbit.
Sex - F.
She was the apprentice to the Sorceress and led the rhynoc's egg
stealing party, until she turned to the good side. She is now
romantically linked to Hunter. She appears frequently in the game,
using her spells to help your progress.
GRENDOR -
Species - Rhynoc.
Sex - M.
After stealing Bianca's spell book, Grendor cast a spell on himself
to make him super strong. However, the spell misfired and he now
has two heads. He is the 'brains' behind the freezing of the
fairies, as their wings are needed for a potion to get him back to
normal again.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ G.Controlling Spyro. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
Arrow keys -
Makes Spyro move. If you hold them down gently, Spyro will walk in
that direction. If you hold them down fully, Spyro will run in that
direction.
When you are gliding, the arrow keys move Spyro in the air.
Button A -
This lets Spyro jump. Use the arrow keys to choose the direction of
the jump.
To glide, press the A button to jump and then press it again. Spyro
will now begin gliding. Use the arrow keys to change the direction
of Spyro's glide. Press again to make Spyro hover.
Also used for commands in the Pause menu.
Also used to scroll through text when talking.
Button B -
Makes Spyro flame. Spyro always flames in the direction his head is
pointing.
Also cancels commands in the Pause menu.
Button L -
Hold this button down then use the arrow keys to look around a bit.
Button R -
This makes Spyro charge. Hold it to carry on charging. Use the
arrow keys to change direction.
START button -
Brings up the options menu.
SELECT button -
Opens the Atlas. Can also be accessed through the Options menu.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ H.Fairies. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
For those of you that have played Spyro 2 and 3, fairies are the
equivalent of orbs and eggs. Most of them are rewarded for doing
special tasks helping animals liberate the rhynocs, but some are
just lying around. There are a total of 100 fairies in the game.
Fairies can also be used to open up levels, as levels sometimes
require fairies to open them (for instance, Stone Age Speedway
requires 14 fairies to open).
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ I.Gems. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
Gems are pieces of treasure that are spread throughout the Fairy
World. Spyro can collect them and give them to Moneybags in
exchange for something good.
Gems come in several different colours, each one being a different
denomination.
This short guide to gems lists the colour and then the
denomination.
Red - 1.
Green - 2.
Blue - 5.
Yellow - 10.
Gems are either lying around or sealed in caskets. Spyro can open
these caskets in the following ways.
Baskets - Your typical container. Can be flamed or charged to be
opened.
Jar - The second most common container. Must be charged to be
opened.
Mystery jar - This is yellow with green stripes and has question
marks around the side. It can be flamed or charged at to be opened.
Once flamed or charged, it disappears and then reappears elsewhere
in the level. You then have to track it down and repeat the flaming
or charging. It then disappears and reappears. Carry on and
eventually the jar will break and releases its cargo.
Locked boxes - These only appear on a few levels, but they're taken
from the first Spyro. You need to find a key, which will be hidden
well somewhere in the level. Once the key is found, Spyro can
unlock the box with it by simply walking up to it.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ J.The Atlas. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
The Atlas is a log of all your accomplishments in the Fairy World.
Use the Atlas to:
Keep track of your fairy and gem count or see how many are left to
find.
See which levels have been completed.
See what percentage of the adventure you have completed in each
realm or all the worlds.
Open the Atlas by pressing the START button, selecting ATLAS from
the Pause menu and pressing Button A. Alternatively, press SELECT
to warp straight to it.
In the Atlas, you can see all the worlds you have or will visit
listed on the Contents page. Under each level's name is the amount
of gems and amount of fairies to be collected. On the first page is
the total gems and fairies for all the worlds and the percentage of
the whole adventure you have completed.
Turn the page by pressing left or right.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ K.Conquering the Fairy World. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
Frozen fairies have been hidden throughout the Fairy Realms, hidden
away until Grendor plans to use them. The only way Spyro will ever
rescue the crystals is by getting help from the friendly beings who
live in the many realms - 24 in all - that make up the Fairy
Realms.
HOMEWORLDS, REALMS AND PORTALS -
The 4 Fairy Worlds each have a homeworld at their centre, with
portals to many realms. By visiting each realm, Spyro will get the
help he needs to travel to the next Fairy World.
PORTALS -
Spyro travels to realms by entering portals in the homeworlds. He
begins with the choice of a few portals. Later, more portals will
open. To enter a portal, just walk/fly into it. Spyro will
instantly be transported to a realm. Some portals will only open
after a certain number of fairies have been freed.
RETURNING TO A HOMEWORLD -
When Spyro has succeeded in a realm, an exit portal will appear.
Just jump into the portal to return to the home world.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ L.Travelling through levels. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
There are many different lands for Spyro to explore and, in each
one, there are a number of objectives he must fulfil before he can
return home.
1) Help the local inhabitants resolve the problems caused by the
rhynocs.
2) Defeat enemies.
3) Locate all the fairies and gems in each region.
4) Find the portal that leads back to the homeworld.
If Spyro achieves all of his goals, he can expect to be rewarded
with additional fairies as well as obtain access to new regions. If
he finds enough fairies, Spyro will finally be able to take on the
might of Grendor himself.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ M.Sparx Worlds - a brief introduction. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
Sparx also gets to show his stuff in lone battles. He blasts his
way through tight corridors collecting gems and searching for eggs.
Nab butterflies to increase health. A fairy appears when you get a
key to cast a saving spell on Sparx, and if he dies he will return
to this point.
However, you have to find special areas before Sparx can go into
battle.
Button B - Fire. Hold it down for rapid fire.
Button L - Special Weapon. Eating coloured butterflies gives Sparx
special powers, so press this button to use them.
Button A - Charge.
Button R - Strafe. Hold it down then press a direction to move
constantly facing the direction you were pointing to when you first
pressed it.
Here is a list of powers you get -
Blue butterfly - Increase health.
Yellow - Shield.
Green - Quick fire.
Purple - Atom bomb.
Red - Homing missile.
Sparx's four levels are -
Ant Farm.
Wasp City.
Caterpillar Gardens.
Beetle Burrows.
Once you finish Beetle Burrows, you unlock Sparx's special ability,
like in Spyro 3. This ability lets you to warp to any level in the
game. All you need to do is select the level you want to go to and
then press A. You'll then warp to that level.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ N.Speedways - a brief introduction. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
There is a speedway realm in each home world. There are two
different difficulty settings and Spyro can choose which one to
play. These are Normal and Hard.
The idea of the speedways is to beat the course before the timer
runs out. If you run into enemies, you will be slowed down and some
time will be taken away. Time will be added for passing through
rings and taking down enemies.
There are various types of enemies. The most common is a lot of one
enemy flying past e.g. the birds in Stone Age Speedway. The second
commonest is the squadron of enemies that fly from left to right
e.g. the cavemen in Stone Age Speedway. You also get rings (which
you need to fly through), large enemies (where you need to remove
their shield before attacking them) and bosses, which come in the
form of dragons. If you hit these, your time will be reduced by
three seconds instead of the usual one.
You receive a fairy for completing a speedway on normal difficulty
and another for completing it on hard difficulty.
/----------------------------------------------------------\
{ O.The guide layout. }
\----------------------------------------------------------/
The guide is set out in the following way. I have used Market Mesa
as an example.
1.Section A1 - Market Mesa
2.Gems - 300 3.Fairies - 6
4.Species - Llamas
5.Names - Luc, Lucky, Lyle, Pierre
6.Flammable objects - Candles
7.Location of locked box - Directly east from the starting point
8.Location of key - At the very top of the structure in the centre
of the level
9.Butterfly Animals - Rabbits
10.Enemies - Chargers, Pirouetters, Blue Thief
11.The next stage of the rhynoc invasion is the taking over of this
peaceful market town.
12.Fairy 1 - Irene -
1.The section number and the name of the level.
2.Amount of gems available.
3.Amount of fairies available.
4.The inhabitants of this level.
5.Their names. I also include other characters that appear in the
level e.g. Hunter, Moneybags etc.
6.The object you need to flame a number of to receive a fairy.
7.The location of the locked box is given here, as a compass
direction. Imagine the up-right corner of the screen as being north
to read the directions.
8.The location of the key is given here, using directions the same
way as the locked box location.
9.The animal you have to flame to get a butterfly.
10.The enemies' names. I have invented most of them. It is fairly
easy to work out which one I am talking about, though.
11.I write a short piece of commentary about that level here.
12.The fairies are listed here. This tells you the name of the
fairy and a brief description on how to get the ice crystal. They
aren't in any specific order, just the order I got them in as I
wrote the guide :) except the last fairy, which is the fairy you
get for flaming all of a certain item.
With the last one (and the ones that require you to find things), I
have included a list of locations of where the items are. Remember
that the items will reappear/extinguish if you lose a life, so you
need to do them all in one go.
I haven't listed the gem locations as it would take HOURS and I
only want to give a basic guide, not a full, piece-by-piece
walkthrough to every level.
Anyway, that's the first section done. Many of you have probably
skipped straight to this section, but I recommend you read the
guide layout above.
Now, we come to the bit you clicked on the link for.
That's right...it's time for the walkthrough!
SECTION NUMBER 2 - THE WALKTHROUGH
/---------------------------------------------------------\
{ A.Autumn Fairy. }
\---------------------------------------------------------/
Gems - 300 Fairies - 5
Species - N/A
Names - Hunter, Bianca, Moneybags
Flammable objects - Pumpkins
Location of locked box - N/A
Location of key - N/A
Butterfly Animals - Sheep
Enemies - N/A
The ruins of a castle set the scene for the first homeworld.
Fairy 1 - Gabrielle - Easy. North of you as soon as you begin the
level.
Fairy 2 - Torrie - When you find the portal to Stone Age Speedway,
she is to the SE of it.
Fairy 3 - Summer - When you find Hunter on the ledge behind Market
Mesa's portal, speak to him to learn how to glide. Once you reach
the first raised area, this fairy can be found.
Fairy 4 - Autumn - After successfully finishing Hunter's gliding
lessons, you will be on another raised area, next to the crystal.
Fairy 5 - Grace - Appears after you have flamed all the pumpkins.
1) To the far south of the homeworld - when you find the portal to
Lava Prairie, keep going south and you'll find it.
2) Just to the north of the portal to Lava Prairie.
3) Head further north from pumpkin 2 - alternatively, go west from
the portal to Ant Farm.
4) On the steps to the NE where the portal to Stone Age Speedway
is.
5) To the east of the steps where pumpkin 4 is, along a narrow
stretch of land between them and the water.
6) To the south of the Winter Fairy portal.
7) On the steps behind the Market Mesa portal.
8) On the same raised area as Summer.
Section A1 - Market Mesa.
Gems - 300 Fairies - 6
Species - Llamas
Names - Luc, Lucky, Lyle, Pierre
Flammable objects - Candles
Location of locked box - Directly east from the starting point
Location of key - At the top of the structure in the centre of the
level, next to bell 2.
Butterfly Animals - Rabbits
Enemies - Chargers, Pirouetters, Blue Thief
The next stage of the rhynoc invasion is the taking over of this
peaceful market town.
Fairy 1 - Irene - Lyle needs help in ringing the bells of the town
for the choir. Here are the bell locations:
1) Cross the bridge next to Lyle. Cross the next bridge and climb
up to reach it.
2) At the top of the central building.
3) On the western side of the level, across lots of bridges.
The bells need to be rung in this order:
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3
You can flame or charge them to make the bells ring. Once you've
rung them all, Lyle will give you the crystal in appreciation.
Fairy 2 - Grayson - Lucky has had his lucky action figure stolen by
a thief and it's up to you to get it back. Sigh. Hold down R so
that Spyro is always charging and then begin the chase. Cut corners
all the time, either by cutting across them or, in the case of the
corner next to the gap, jump over the gap. Keep trying and,
eventually, you'll get him. Lucky will give you the crystal in
return.
Fairy 3 - Liz - On the northern side of the level, next to bell 1.
Fairy 4 - Alice - After getting rid of all the enemies, Pierre
gives you this fairy. He will also open the exit portal.
Fairy 5 - Lauren - On the western side of the level, next to bell
3.
Fairy 6 - Marta - Appears after you have flamed all the candles.
1) NE of where you begin.
2) On the southern edge of the central building.
3) SE of candle 2, on a lower ledge.
4) To the NE of Lucky, on a higher level.
5) On the steps leading to the top of the building in the middle.
6) After getting candle 5, carry on up to the next level of the
building. The candle is on a ledge to the SW of this level.
7) Next to bell 3 and fairy 5, on a platform in the west.
8) Once you find the locked box, glide east of it to get to a
platform with some gems on. Glide NE from this platform to reach
another one with this candle on.
Section A2 - Lava Prairie.
Gems - 300 Fairies - 6
Species - Lava Dwellers
Names - Bonky, Trog, Fang
Flammable objects - Cacti
Location of locked box - On an island east of the starting point
Location of key - Extreme north of the level
Butterfly Animals - Sheep
Enemies - Clubbers, Pterodactyls, Gnasty Rhynocs
Rhynocs are causing havoc in this prehistoric land.
Fairy 1 - Ali - After speaking to Bonky, you need to use the cactus
bombs to kill the pterodactyls. Cactus bombs are the spherical
green things and must be flamed onto a geyser to exterminate a
pterodactyl. They can be destroyed by walking over them or flaming
them into the lava - if they do get destroyed, return to where it
came from and another will have appeared. There are a total of 4
pterodactyls. Here are their locations:
1) SE from where Bonky is standing.
2) Go NE from Trog.
3) Slightly to the SE of pterodactyl 2.
4) Near the steps on the northern edge of the level.
Fairy 2 - Suzan - Head south from the first pterodactyl and you'll
find this crystal.
Fairy 3 - Rhonda - Trog asks you to get rid of the gnasty rhynocs
that are trampling his cactus garden. These are the large rhynocs
that throw stones at you. The easiest way to kill these is to stand
on the ground in front of them, but on a lower level. This means
they can't hurt you but, if you flame from here, they'll be killed.
There are several on the steps near Trog, several on some more to

Location of locked box - Head SE from the starting point
Location of key - Next to Nadia
Butterfly Animals - Frogs

Rhynocs are giving the mermaids of Mermaid Coast a headache.
Fairy 1 - Rachel - Stanley is due to meet Stacey on the beach, but
rhynocs have turned the lighthouses off. You need to locate the
lighthouses and flame them to relight them. To flame them, climb
the sand steps that are next to them and flame when you are at the
same level.
1) North of Stanley, over the small patch of water.
2) On the same island as Kathy.

Flammable objects - N/A
Location of locked box - N/A
Location of key - N/A
Butterfly Animals - N/A
Enemies - Fire Dragon
The Fairy World's first speedway is set in the Stone Age.
Fairy 1 - Sam - You get this for completing the speedway on normal
difficulty. You need to:
- Fly through a series of rings.
- Flame pterodactyls (blue ones give you gems and yellow ones
give you more time).
- Flame several squadrons of birds (try and flame them as they
fly past first to save time).
- Fly through a rock belt (gems are hidden between the rocks
and crusty rocks give you more time).
You then face the boss, a fire dragon. He'll swoop towards you and
then fly backwards. Flame him as he flies backwards and dodge when
he heads towards you. As you flame him, he'll get shorter and
shorter until he disappears. Grab the yellow gem he leaves to
finish.
I recommend holding down either A or B for the whole speedway (or
at least, the sections where you have to shoot things), as you will
be more likely to hit something randomly.
Fairy 2 - Peaseblossom - Complete the speedway on hard difficulty.
The enemies come in the same order as before; you just begin with a
smaller amount of time.
Section A5 - Ant Farm.
Gems - 200 Fairies - 1
Species - Insects
Names - N/A
Flammable objects - N/A
Location of locked box - N/A
Location of key - N/A
Enemies - Termites, Termite Nests, Glowflies, Little Glowflies,
Glowfly Nests, Small Grasshoppers, Grumpy Grasshopper
Some pests need exterminating and Sparx is the best dragonfly for
the job.
To start off with, get all the games that are scattered around the
doughnut shaped area. Don't forget to grab the blue key. Leave the
blue butterfly for now, as it will come in handy when you are
nearly dead. Go through the blue doors and shoot the insects that
try to attack you. Get the yellow gem on the left. Head south and
go straight downwards, shooting the termite nests as you go. Now go
into the area on the west and kill all the glowflys, then get all
the gems.
Go into the large area in the middle of the level. Kill the termite
nests, termites and the occasional little glowflys. Grab all the
gems that are in the area. Eat the blue butterfly if you are
running low on health, or leave it for when you may need it.
Now go into the blue doors to the south of the large area.
Exterminate the termite nest and the glowfly nest before retrieving
the red key.
Head a-l-l the way to the far west of the level and open the red
doors. Get the gems and the yellow butterfly for a shield. I kept
this for the boss, as he is pretty darn difficult. There is also a
blue butterfly here, if you need it.
Now return to the central area and open the red gates to the south
of it. Massacre the hordes of glowflys inside and get the green
key, plus the two yellow gems.
Head directly north from these red doors to a set of green doors.
Get rid of the two glowfly nests and kill the glowflys and
termites. Get the purple key and the gems.
Now for the boss. Return to the central area and go to the purple
doors (they are opposite the blue doors). Open them and you'll meet
the boss, Grumpy Grasshopper. I used the following strategy to kill
him.
1) When you are near him, use the shield.
2) Now stay underneath him. The shield will hit him repeatedly,
depleting his health.
3) When the shield begins to run out, dash out from beneath him and
then use your normal fire to finish him.
Also beware of the small grasshoppers when you are shield-less.
He'll turn red when he's near death. After this, get the remaining
gems and exit the level.
Fairy 1 - Angela - See above.

The peaceful Panda Gardens have been overrun by rhynocs.
Fairy 1 - Jennie - Song's box of incense has been stolen by another
thief. Use the same tactics as before to catch him. Be careful of
the trees that litter the area, as well as the water surrounding
it. Once you catch him, Song will give you the crystal as a reward.
Fairy 2 - Doodle - Yan's brother Lum has got stuck in a mystery
jar. To find out how to destroy it, see section 1I. The jar will
appear in the following locations:
1) Next to Yan (surprisingly!)
2) Next to fairy 3.
3) On the same small island as fairy 2 and the key.
4) On top of the building in the NW of the level.
5) Next to Yan.

Flammable objects - Honeycomb Plants
Location of locked box - On the same island as you begin on
Location of key - On an island east of honeycomb plant 3
Butterfly Animals - Rabbits
Enemies - Stingers, Beezooka Rhynocs
The Professor wants you to clean up Honey Marsh so that he can
conduct his experiments in peace.
Fairy 1 - Kristen - Rhynocs have knocked the Professor's Time
Machine into the honey marsh. To retrieve it, he needs to get the
bees to stop producing honey. However, they don't want to, so Spyro
must help. An easy way to find the hives is to follow the rivers of
honey. Once you find a hive, you have to get rid of the bees. This
can be done by flaming the hive to make a bee come out, then
charging to the nearest flower. The bee will sit in the flower. The
hardest one to do is the one in the southern corner, as you need to
climb some steps. Persevere and you'll be able to do it. Once you
have sorted out all 4 hives, the Professor will give you this
fairy.
Fairy 2 - Yaya - On steps in the NE of the level.
Fairy 3 - Chu Chu - Next to the flower that you need to guide the
southernmost bee too when doing the fairy 1 task.
Fairy 4 - Letty - After doing lots of gliding, you can find this
one in the east.

Fairy 1 - Liora - You get this for completing the speedway on
normal difficulty. You need to:
- Flame pterodactyls (blue ones give you gems and yellow ones
give you more time).
- Flame several squadrons of flying bears (try and flame them
as they fly past first to save time).
- Fly through a series of rings.
- Flame several squadrons of draclets (try and flame them as
they fly past first to save time).
You then face the boss, two ice dragons. Use the same method as
before to finish them off and rescue the fairy.
Fairy 2 - Naomi - Complete the speedway on hard difficulty. The
enemies come in the same order as before - you just begin with a
smaller amount of time.
Section B5 - Wasp City.
Gems - 200 Fairies - 1

Enemies - Termites, Termite Nests, Glowflies, Little Glowflies,
Glowfly Nests, Small Bees, Big Bee
A field has been taken over by more insects.
Get the gems that are next to you when you start, then kill the
insects that try and attack you. Head north past the two junctions
and go up the alleyway between two lines of leaves. Get rid of the
termite nest up here. Return to the junction at the bottom and go
east. Grab the gem and the green butterfly. Now you have quick fire
- use it whenever things get a bit hairy. Go west and get rid of
all the termite nests you can at the moment. Leave the purple
butterfly for now, as it will get rid of your brand new quick fire.
And we don't want that, do we? Not until it's taken down a few
insects with it, anyway. Head to the SW. You'll probably end up
with lots of insects following you - find a suitable place to turn
around and kill them all.
In the SW corner, you'll find another termite nest and a blue key.
Pick it up and then go the eastern side of this part of the level
and get rid of the glowfly nest. There will also be a red butterfly
flying around near here, you decide whether to leave it or pick it
up. Go through the blue doors near the purple butterfly. You'll
find yourself in an area with 3 termite nests. Get rid of them all
and follow the path round to the red key. Now head all the way back
to where you began and go through the red doors. Dispose of the
glowfly nest, the little glowflys and the termite nests. In here,
there are two more butterflies (green and red), a few gems and the
green key. Now, what could we do with that...?
The green doors are found near where the blue key was. Get rid of
the termite nest. Destroy the weird mechanical device here. This
machine powers the force field around the termite nest to the NW,
so you can now go and destroy it. Now go north up the alley and
blow up the termite nest and the glowfly nest. Get the purple key
at the end. There is also a blue butterfly here, if you are running
low on health.
The purple doors near you lead to the boss, but there are some
purple doors opposite the starting point that you can open now to
get some gems. Once they have been got, go through the purple doors
near where the purple key was.
The boss! An angry bee waits your arrival. He'll send little bees
out to attack you if you get too close. I killed him by using the
power I had when I went it (which was a shield), then using the two
butterflies in here. He goes red when he's nearly dead, as before.
Watch out for the little bees too - he sends about 3 out each time.
Fairy 1 - Jody - See above.

Spyro finally gets to meet who is behind the fairy freezing!
To get to Grendor, glide over a river of lava to an island in the
middle of the level. He's on here, waiting for you.
After a short speech, you begin the boss. He fires homing fireballs
at you first. These can be avoided by jumping over or running away
from until they extinguish. Once his shield of fireballs has
disappeared, you get the opportunity to charge him. Do so and then
he'll try to jump on you. Run around the island to shake him off
(you can tell where he is by his shadow). This will hurt him. If
you need them, remember that there are some sheep in the NW corner.
After 5 hits, he'll disappear and leave a fairy crystal behind.

More insects for Sparx to blast!
Start off by getting the four gems that are near you. Leave the
blue butterfly for now. Head north and kill the numerous insects
that try to kill you and their nests, so that they don't respawn.
Getting the green butterfly that is around here may be helpful for
this. Get the gems as you go and you'll eventually come out in a
central area with three doors. Get the blue key from the small
alley in the north to open the blue doors. Be warned - there are
lots of insects in here! Go north and kill the termite, caterpillar
and the hordes of beetles, as well as their nest. Get the blue
butterfly from behind their nest if you need it. Now go south and
kill the various insects. Retrieve the red key. Return to the area
with the doors and go through the red ones. Head south (killing all
the insects) as far as you can go, when you'll reach some green
doors.
Go east to find more green doors and then go south. Go round the
path here (killing more insects) and go north at the junction
you'll reach. Shoot the machine until it blows up and then get the
treasure and the green key from the south of the junction. Go to
the second set of green doors and open them. Get rid of all the
enemies in here and get the gems and the purple key from round the
bend. Now go back to the central area and get the gem from behind
the purple doors and then kill the caterpillar behind the blue
doors. Go through the other purple doors to face the boss.
And what a boring boss he is. It's a big version of a normal
caterpillar, so it just drifts around not attacking you especially
at all. The only way you can actually get hurt is by touching him.
The idea is to get rid of all his body parts and then beat him up
while he has no body parts, as he is extra vulnerable. He'll then
regenerate some more, so repeat until he dies. You may want to get
a butterfly that you missed earlier and use it's powerup against
him. There is also a red butterfly in here, if you need it. Once
he's down, grab the gems and escape the level.

Deputy Matty has been locked up by rhynocs and Sheriff Skip needs
him out to help round them up.
Fairy 1 - Carrie - Farmer Scott has had his brand new shovel stolen
by another thief. Use the usual tactics to get it. This one is
easier than previous thieves as there aren't as many obstacles and
you can corner him on the south-western side of the island and try
and get him from there. After you kill him, you'll get this fairy.
Fairy 2 - Sandra - On an island to the SE of the starting point.
Fairy 3 - Flavie - On a high ledge to the SE. You need to glide

3) Next to snow crystal 3.
4) East of fairy 5.

Once you have all 6, the rocket launches and you receive the
crystal.
Fairy 2 - Meg - On ledge on an island towards the west of the
level.
Fairy 3 - Ember - On a very small island in the extreme NW.
Fairy 4 - Beaney - Kranky wants you to find his friend Oscar, as he

soon as you flame all the enemies. He'll then unlock the portal to
Summer Fairy and give you this crystal.

Flammable objects - N/A
Location of locked box - N/A
Location of key - N/A
Butterfly Animals - N/A
Enemies - Space Dragon
Spyro's final speedway is set in outer space.
Fairy 1 - Mustardseed - You get this for completing the speedway on
normal difficulty. You need to:
- Flame flying saucers (blue ones give you gems and yellow ones
give you more time).
- Flame some alien astronauts (kill the little ones then kill
the main one).
- Flame several squadrons of space monkeys (try and flame them
as they fly past first to save time).
- Fly through a series of rings.
- Flame airplanes (blue ones give you gems and yellow ones
give you more time).
You then face the boss, a space dragon. Use the same method as
before to destroy it and rescue the fairy.
Fairy 2 - Micki - Complete the speedway on hard difficulty. The
enemies come in the same order as before - you just begin with a
smaller amount of time.
Section D4 - Beetle Burrows.
Gems - 200 Fairies - 1
Species - Insects
Names - N/A
Flammable objects - N/A
Location of locked box - N/A
Location of key - N/A

Glowflys, Termites, Termite Nests, Beetles, Beetle Nests,
Robobeetle
Sparx's final level is a maze-like garden.
Get the 4 gems that are scattered around you first. Go north, past
all 4 coloured doors and go east when you can. Follow the path
round (killing enemies as you go) to get the blue key. There is
also a blue butterfly here. Now return to the blue doors and go
through.
Follow the path here, slaying more insects, to reach another set of
blue doors, where you'll find a purple butterfly if you need it.
Through here is the red key, a blue butterfly and two termite
nests. Get rid of the pests, grab the key and the gems and then
head back to the first corridor and go through the red doors.
In here, there is a termite nest, a beetle nest, two blue
butterflies, several gems and the green key. You can't get at the
beetle nest as it is protected - for now. Go through the green
doors.
Through here is another path with more enemies blocking the way.
Fight your way to the end and retrieve the purple key. There is
also a red butterfly near the key and a blue butterfly near the
first termite nest. Now head towards the purple doors.
Lots of enemies in here. Destroy their nests to prevent them from
reproducing. In the south of the area there is a machine to turn
off the shield around the red doors' beetle nest. There are also
yellow, purple and blue butterflies in the south. Around the bend
in the east there are more enemies, a red butterfly and gems. At
the end of the passage are some purple doors, leading to the boss.
And he's pretty difficult. The idea is to shoot him (obviously),
avoid his spike-missiles and try not to let him touch you by
charging. That's the basic pattern, really - shoot, avoid, charge,
shoot, avoid, charge. There is a purple butterfly and also a red
butterfly in the arena, if you are in need of some heavy firepower.
After a while, his front armour will drop off, meaning he can't
shoot at you and then he'll turn red, meaning he's nearly dead.
After he turns red, he'll lose the back armour next and, the next
time something happens to him, he dies!
Fairy 1 - Franny - See above.
You now also have Sparx's special ability unlocked (see section
1M).
Section D5 - Grendor's Lair.
Gems - N/A Fairies - 1
Species - N/A
Names - N/A
Flammable objects - N/A
Location of locked box - N/A
Location of key - N/A
Butterfly Animals - Snowballs
Enemies - Grendor
Spyro faces off with the rhynoc behind the fairy freezing.
This fight takes place in an arena with the same layout as your
previous battle with Grendor. He threatens you to begin with and
tells you to prepare for the worst, as he is using ice magic.
However, it doesn't make any difference. He can be defeated in
exactly the same way as before, he just takes 9 hits to kill as
opposed to 5.
Once you defeat him, Grendor hands over the 100th crystal, Zoe. Now
sit back, watch the ending sequence and the credits.
Fairy 1 - Zoe - See above.
Once you've done that, you get returned to the Spring Fairy
homeworld. Head over to the Dragonfly X portal in the NW side.
Moneybags is standing outside and will return all the gems he has
taken from you over the game. You can now go into the Dragonfly X
portal, as long as you have all 7000 gems as well as the 100
fairies.

This is a small reward from the developers for completing the game.
It is similar to the Sparx levels in style, but different in pretty
much every other way.
There are a series of levels that you need to complete. In each one
is a different objective, such as killing a spider.
The controls are:
Arrow keys - Face a direction.
B/R - Move forward in the direction you are currently facing.
A - Shoot.
L - Use powerup.
Powerups will appear as you progress. These are all the same as the
ones that appear in the regular Sparx levels and do the same thing
upon using.
As far as I can see, there isn't a point to this game, apart from
to get a high score. Have fun!
