Finally! A Time Trial Coin Walkthrough!

Walkthrough History----------------------------------------------------
01/20/2004: Began walkthrough. Added Novice, Hard, and Expert courses.
01/21/2004: Added Extreme courses. Revised and finished walkthrough.
Finished a walkthrough in two days??? NO WAY!
Introduction-----------------------------------------------------------
It's been a little over a month since this game was released; it's
been over two weeks since I bought the game (with the DVD thank you
very much); but still no one has written a complete Time Trial
walkthrough. I had to explore the game on my own and eventually I
received all of the coins! Oh the agony of actually enjoying the
challenge that the game hath placed before me! Anyways, this guide is
here for those of you who get frustrated in trying to find those coin
shards. Yes, I do refer to the coins as "shards" simply because they
are only pieces of coins.
Recommended Boarders---------------------------------------------------
-Ricky Winterborn (blonde-haired dude sitting on picnic bench):
His jumping skills are much needed in some areas.
-Akari Hayami (Asian girl with beanie on lodge balcony):
Her turning skills will help you get certain shards easier
than other characters. Her skills also help out when you
almost miss a shard and need to turn quickly.
*It is possible to get the coins with Kemen Vasquez, Rob Haywood, and
Terra Hunter, but it's much easier with the other two.
Rewards for Coins------------------------------------------------------
-Two coins: First set of extra board (Fair)
-Five coins: Second set of extra boards (Good)
-Nine coins: Third set of extra boards (Best)
-Eighteen coins: Alternate designs for all boards (hold L trigger when
selecting board). Please note that these boards DO NOT have
improved stats.
IMPORTANT TIP: Whenever you're near a coin you'll hear a jingling
noise. Listen carefully so you'll be guided to the coin.
=======================================================================
Novice Courses---------------------------------------------------------
=======================================================================
Course 1: Enter the Cold (Ski School)
Music: Finger Eleven "Good Times"
Description: A straight-forward run. Good practice for beginners.
Difficulty: Very Easy
You'll be able to get all the coin shards on the first run.
Coin shards:
#1: Head down the slope at the beginning. The shard is right before
the turn
#2: Continue down until you reach a quarter pipe, the shard is on top
of it. Line yourself up for the jump, but DO NOT jump over
the quarter pipe.
#3: Keep following the path until you reach a sign with three arrows
pointing right. The shard is under the sign.
#4: After the arrow sign you will continue down to a jump that will
lead you back to the main path. Once you make the jump you
will see another ramp with little snowmound to the right of it.
The shard is in front of the snowmounds.
#5: The final shard is on top of more snowmounds right before the
finish line.
Course 2: Easy Life (Tenderfoot Pass)
Music: Cauterize "Killing Me"
Description: A public area with cheering crowds and plenty of skiers.
A good place to learn jumps.
Difficulty: Very Easy
This course may take you an extra run or two.
Coin Shards:
#1: Towards the beginning there is a ski lift pole. The shard is on
the right side of the pole.
#2: After you go off the jump before the overhead bridge you'll hear a
guy who will tell you grind the rail, doing so gets you this
shard.
#3: Right before you reach the cheering crowd (they're at the end of
the big open area mid-course, you'll hear their applause as
you pass them) there is a jump in between the trees (keep to
the right before the crowd). The shard is on top of the jump.
#4: After the crowd is another jump with skiers going over it. Ignore
the jump and keep the left of it for the shard.
#5: You can't miss this one. The shard is on a ledge right before the
finish line. Keep left (and jump at it if needed to) to claim
it.
Course 3: Angel Light (Frosty Shadows)
Music: Socketzero "Point A"
Description: A town at night. One of my favorite levels. Good
practice for learning how to spot multiple paths.
Difficulty: Easy
You'll probably be doing this course over a few times unless you're
familiar with it from the demo.
Coin Shards:
#1: Head down the course unti you reach a turn. A car will be off to
the left and the turn will go right. Jump over the broken
section of fence to claim this shard, although the jump may
take some pratice.
#2: There's a barn after the fence jump, you can't miss it. The shard
is inside the barn.
#3: After the barn you'll come off a short drop and head into town.
Keep right and prepare for a quick jump. You'll end up on a
road full of barriers. The shard is at the end of this road.
#4: Keep left at the next fork in the town. You'll see a row of black
trash barrells, smash through them and claim the shard that
follows.
#5: You'll come to a very long rail alongside the road. Keep to the
right of this rail and pass under the white trees, the shard
is there.
=======================================================================
Hard Courses-----------------------------------------------------------
=======================================================================
Course 1: Easy Life (Power Threat)
Music: Finger Eleven "Other Light"
Description: A combination of previous tracks under snowfall, you'll
recognize certain parts as you come to them.
Difficulty: Easy
You may have a hard time getting the grind for the third shard right.
Coin Shards:
#1: Get ready for a race. A snowmobile will come out from the right.
You must follow it into the garage. The shard is in the
garage. Keep your speed up though, otherwise the garage door
will close before you get there.
#2: You'll come to the lodge quickly enough. Break through the window
and claim the shard inside.
#3: This is a tricky one. Be sure that you aren't too going fast as
you break out of the other side of the lodge. Position your
player so they're traveling right over the upcoming bridge.
The shard is on the rail on the other side of the bridge. The
best way to hit this grind is to make a short jump before you
go over the bridge to catch the rail.
#4: Before you go grinding the stairs you'll come to a forest area
with a group of rabbits. Keep far to the left. The shard is
it next the net barrier.
#5: After grinding the stairs you'll come to a long drop. Keep left,
the shard is next a tree.
Course 2: Angel Light (Tree Top Trauma)
Music: Socketzero "Friendly Fire"
Description: A logging area complete with a lumber mill.
Difficulty: Easy
The only thing you really need to worry about on this course is the
moving logs at the mill.
Coin Shards:
#1: Keep right from the start. There is a jump with a shard on top.
#2: After you make the jump keep going until you reach a several trees
connected together to form a grinding pole. Keep your balance
as the shard is at the end of the grind.
#3: Keep to your right as you pass into the mill. A shard will be
amongst several moving vertical logs.
#4: After the long stairway you'll come to a big building with moving
horizontal logs. The shard is in the middle of the building.
#5: After the big mill building you'll see two pipes off the left,
grind them and claim the shard on the other side.
Course 3: Aspen Lake Dam (Grits N' Gravy)
Music: Boysetfire "Handful of Redemption"
Description: You don't really get to see the dam until a later level.
This level is basically just a downhill run with a bunch of
rocks and trees in the way.
Difficulty: Easy
There's nothing really to say about this level other than "Where's the
dam?"
Coin Shards:
#1: From the start keep left. You should notice a row of trees that
are close together, stay to the left of them to get the shard.
#2: Keep your speed up after you get the first shard and try not to
lose your balance after the jump. Quickly travel over the
collapsing bridge until you grab the shard.
#3: It would probably be easiest NOT to hit the dynamite barrels since
the next shard is right above the area where it explodes into
a secret path. Otherwise go around the opening and up on top
the dirt mound to grab the shard.
#4: Stay to the right after you get shard #3. You will come to a very
long rail grind, stay on the rail until you get the shard.
#5: Right before the finish is the last shard, you can't miss it.
Course 4: Ride Easy Railways (Trestle Trouble)
Music: Squidd "Don't Stop Now"
Description: A mountainside under a train bridge.
Difficulty: Medium
You'll need good jumping experience in order to claim the coin and
watch out for those ever-so-annoying deer.
#1: After you pass through the tunnel make a very sharp right and go
over the jump. The shard is over the jump. Be sure you have
enough experience in order to make the tricky jump, otherwise
you may fly right over the shard.
#2: After the jump, you'll chase a couple of deer through a small pass.
After the pass the area will open back up. To your left will
be a hill, you can see the shard sitting atop it.
#3: Now you need to make your way all the way to the right of the
course. There's another shard amongst the trees.
#4: You should have started seeing the train bridge by now after the
third shard. Keep to the left until you come to the second
part of the bridge. You're going to be passing underneath it
on the upper edge. Prepare to jump to get the fourth shard.
This may take some practice.
#5: You'll have to jump again to get over to the final shard which will
be in an open area above the regular path. This might take
pratice to get to as well.
=======================================================================
Expert Courses---------------------------------------------------------
=======================================================================
Course 1: Easy Life (Revolution Cliff)
Music: Squidd "7 8 9"
Description: Another combination of previous courses. That lodge
seems to appear a lot...
Difficulty: Medium
The miniture avalanche is nice, but I had a little trouble with the
final shard, who knew?
Coin Shards:
#1: From the start you'll need to keep right so you can get up on the
ledge. When the ledge ends you'll need to jump. After landing
you'll break a sign and cause an avalanche. Ignore the
rumbling and focus on grinding the rail. Doing so gets you the
shard.
#2: The avalanche will break open a secret path. You'll need to take
this path (actually, it's a tunnel). Once you come out the
other side there will be a twisting grind rail. The shard is
on the rail.
#3: Now it's time for a nice big jump. After the grind rail, keep left
and make sure you're still to the left as you go over the jump.
The shard is in a narrow path that you will land in.
#4: This one is tricky. You'll go over another jump and rush through
a rocky path. SLOW DOWN, you'll need to be able to spot the
jump ramp to the left. Make that jump then watch out for the
next space to jump over. The shard is after the second jump.
#5: We come back to the lodge... again. Go underneath it this time.
Slow down a bit so you can turn left. The shard is up against
the backside of the lodge.
Course 2: Angel Light (Midnight City)
Music: Boysetfire "Rookie"
Description: You're basically going to be rushing through downtown.
Yea...
Difficulty: Medium
Knowing which rails to grind makes all the difference.
Coin Shards:
#1: Blast through the last of the town. Eventually you come to a left
turn but you're going to go right through some trees. You'll
land in a gulley with a shard.
#2: After the gulley is a parking garage, you want the right path. It
curves until you end up on the left side. There's a rail to
grind with a shard on it. You can take the left path, but
taking the right makes it easier to reach the shard.
#3: Grind time is not over! Cross the highway (watch out for cars)
and keep right. Grind the first rail which will take you even
further right and lead you two a second to grind with a shard.
#4: There is a big stairway at the end of the pavilion. Grind the left
rail to get the shard.
#5: Right after you go through the long curve you'll see two white
trees, a sign with arrows, and a curb in front of a fence. You
need to get up on that curb and ride through this path past the
restaurant to get the shard.
Course 3: Aspen Lake Dam (Rotted Ridge)
Music: Socketzero "Yuiop"
Description: Here's the dam, complete with a collapsing building and a
rock slide.
Difficulty: Medium
Getting the jump through the fence on the bridge can be hard.
Coin Shards:
#1: You'll be forced to run into a rail from the start, grind it for
the shard, but don't fall off otherwise the building will
collapse.
#2: You'll come to a fenced bridge which you'll have to jump out from
through a hole to the right. When you land you'll see the
shard.
#3: Now it's time for a rock slide. Dodge the rocks until you come to
the end of the area, the shard is up the side of the hill.
#4: Finally, the dam. You'll see a good section of the damn up ahead.
Keep right and getting to hold the L trigger button for a VERY
long rail grind (perhaps the longest in the game). The shard
is some way down the rail.
#5: The final shard looks like it's laying right in the path, until you
reach it. Instead you'll come to a drop off with the shard
floating in air, be sure to get a good jump in order to grab
it.
Course 4: Ride Easy Railways (Diesel Disaster)
Music: 8711 "Beat Me Beat Me"
Description: You start in a small town, pass through a rail yard with a
train wreck, and end up back in a town.
Difficulty: Hard
Snagging the fourth shard can be aggravating, argh!
Coin Shards:
#1: From the beginning keep right. Go behind the house and onto the
road for the shard.
#2: Keep going until you see the helicopter fly out of the snowstorm.
This shard can be annoying. Slow down to a stop and gently go
over the side. Try to keep your balance so you can snag the
shard.
#3: When you enter the railyard you might notice a grinding rail.
Grind the rail or go around it, just make sure you hit the
second rail for the third shard.
#4: Like I said, this one can be a pain and is (to me) the hardest
shard to get. After the train derails head down to just before
the second town. You'll see an orange diesel engine and
boxcar sitting there. Pass them and head to the left side
towards the powerlines. Don't focus on the shard piece, just
focus on landing the grind. Grind the powerlines to get the
shard. How many times will it take you? Be honest...
#5: Get back onto the road and jump over the flatbad railcar. Follow
the snowmobile and keep going behind the yellow house to get
the last shard.
Course 5: Frozen Melee (Sick With It)
Music: Socketzero "Pear Spawn"
Description: A ballistic assault of turns and drops. Get to know this
course well.
Difficulty: Hard
I still don't think I've gone over every possible path on this course.
Coin Shards:
#1: After you smash through the ice you'll see three paths. Take the
right path leading up and make the two jumps. There will be
a small building with a grind rail next to it. Grind the rail
to get the shard and be sure to fall off the rail on the left
side.
#2: At the next possible spot, drop off to the left again and stay on
this ledge until you get the shard.
#3: Now you'll pass through a tunnel which looks like it's leading
upward. Land over on the left side when you come out and grind
the first tree you come across. The shard at the end of the
tree.
#4: You'll be falling after the grind (perhaps the biggest fall in the
game next to the ski jump in Trick Attack). Land and head
straight for the grind tree to get this shard.
#5: After going up two different inclines, the path narrows and you'll
come out on a small, natural bridge. The final shard is there.
=======================================================================
Extreme Courses--------------------------------------------------------
=======================================================================
Course 1: Angel Light (Top Tree Mama)
Music: Socketzero "Friendly Fire"
Description: A "Mirror Mode" version of Angel Light (Tree Top Trauma)
Course 2 from Hard mode except the shards have moved.
Difficulty: Hard
The first jump can be so hard to make...
Coin Shards:
#1: Don't head for the ramp, instead head towards the trees hugging the
right wall. If you're far over enough you'll be travling
rather slow (which is good) so you'll be able to catch the
jump when the ledge moves up on you. If you land the jump
(which can be a pain at first) then you'll be able to snag
the shard.
#2: Head back into the trees. The trees will stop abruptly with a
drop. Jump (don't fall) over the drop and get the shard.
#3: When you land from the drop you'll need to hang right. You'll see
a log come up on you. Jump up on to it and grind it for a
shard.
#4: You'll come to the lumber mill and enter the big building with the
horizontally moving logs. The shard is on the right side of
the mill.
#5: Once you come out of the mill you'll see the grind pipes again.
This time they'll be on the right side, but you still need to
grind one of them (it doesn't matter which one) to get the
final shard.
Course 2: Ride Easy Railways (Treble Tussle)
Music: Squidd "Don't Stop Now"
Description: A "Mirror Mode" version of Ride Easy Railways (Trestle
Trouble) from Hard mode except the shards have moved.
Difficulty: Medium
You're going to end up traveling from one side of the course to the
other in order to grab all the shards. You're REALLY going
to have to know where all the shards are for this course.
Coin Shards:
#1: Head out of the tunnel and you'll end up in the jump area. Make a
quick turn to the left and head IN BETWEEN the left ramp.
That's right, head straight for that tree. Just don't hit the
trunk and you'll be able to catch shard that is hidden by the
tree branches.
#2: Chase the two deer through the small pass and come to the next
field. SLOW DOWN, I mean it. Just creep across the snow and
head for the left wall. If you pass a tree on the left and
come to a drop you'll see the shard. But if you're traveling
too fast you'll fly right over it.
#3: Now head all the way to the right, but don't go all the way to the
wall. You'll come to a drop that is flanked by a ledge up
against the wall (you'll know you're there because there are
trees at the bottom of the drop). Fall off the drop just next
to the ledge and you'll see the shard.
#4: You're now in the area where you'll first see the train bridge.
You have three paths: the upper path (a steep slope up to the
left), the middle path (a short path with rocks), and the lower
path (towards the right). Take the middle path to claim the
shard. In other words: just keep going straight.
#5: Before you come to the finish line, stay to the left and snag the
shard.
Course 3: Easy Life (Evolution Riff)
Music: Squidd "7 8 9"
Description: A "Mirror Mode" version of Easy Life (Revolution Cliff)
from the Expert mode except the shards have moved.
Difficulty: Medium
It took me a few runs to figure out where coin #5 was...
Coin Shards:
#1: Jump off the ledge and grind the rail like on Revolution Cliff (the
avalanche will occur, but you don't need to worry about that).
Be sure you drop off to the right. DO NOT head down the ice
tunnel path that opens from the avalanche.
#2: You should be on the far right path, go through the cave and pass
through the line of trees just outside of it. Keep right as
you come to the second group of trees (DO NOT jump the log)
and claim the shard.
#3: You'll come to a rail. Grind it. Get the shard. You can't miss
it.
#4: Just keep going along the path. You'll come to a big drop with the
shard on the ledge. You should get this shard without even
trying.
#5: Head for the right side of the lodge with the picnic bench. Smash
through the fence and hit the L trigger. What? You're grind a
rail? But... Oh, there's a shard!
Course 4: Angel Light (Sid's Night Midi)
Music: Finger Eleven "Conversations"
Description: A "Mirror Mode" version of Angel Light (Midnight City)
from Expert mode except the shards have moved.
Difficulty: Very Hard
This one takes some getting used to and good jumping skills are needed.
Coin Shards:
#1: Race down to the parking garage and take the left path. Hug the
right wall and prepare to jump. Jump straight out, even though
the path turns. If you timed your jump right you'll be
grinding a straight rail in the middle of the garage. The
shard is now yours.
#2: Jump up onto the center of the pavilion with the small tree garden
(four white trees in a raised up circular area). The shard is
right in the middle of the trees.
#3: I hate this one. Jump up onto the right side of the big stairway
before the long curve. Grind the rail and fall off to the
right or just jump over the rail entirely. If you make it
you'll come across the shard.
#4: There are two ways to get this shard. Either jump through the
restuarant window on the left side (go through the rail and hit
the bigger windows) OR fall down the first set of stairs before
the restuarant, jump left onto a curb and just keep going.
You should end up on the left side of the restuarant with the
shard.
#5: Before the BIG drop by the finish line, keep all the way to the
left. The shard is waiting for you.
Course 5: Ride Easy Railways (Dazzlin' Teaser)
Music: Socketzero "Yuiop"
Description: A "Mirror Mode" version of Ride Easy Railways (Diesel
Disaster) from Expert mode except the shards have moved.
Difficulty: Medium
Not too much of a challenge here...
Coin Shards:
#1: Before you reach the first wrecked car (next to the ambulence)
there is a shard sitting atop a snowbank. You can't miss it.
#2: After the idiot in the red car slams into the semi, head over to
the left side of the accident scene. The shard is waiting
there next to the semi.
#3: Head through the snowstorm into the railyard. Pass the snowmobiles
and jump onto the wooden ramp. Jump from the ramp over the
yellow boxcars. When you land, keep right and snag the shard.
#4: Go down the hill to the orange diesel. The shard is on the right
side of the engine.
#5: You'll be in town by now. Head behind (to the right of) the red
building that sits next to the track.
Course 6: Frozen Melee (Wit's Thicket)
Music: Socketzero "Pear Spawn"
Description: A "Mirror Mode" version of Frozen Melee (Sick With It)
from the Expert mode except the shards have moved.
Difficulty: Very Hard
You're going to be going places you never thought existed...
Coin Shards:
#1: Head down the center (lower) path at the fork. Make a small jump
when you hit the ramp to get the shard.
#2: DO NOT SMASH THROUGH THE ICE! Instead, head right and you should
fall onto a ledge. Keep on this ledge as it gently moves left.
The shard is towards the end of the ledge.
#3: Go through the tunnel where it looks like you're traveling upwards.
Keep to the left and drop. Take the right curve (by the moose)
and slow down as you come to the left turn. Notice the space
under the fallen log? Go under the log SLOWLY. If you dropped right
you'll grab the shard. STAY ON THE POWDER! DO NOT TAKE THE ICE
PATH!
#4: Towards the end of the course you'll come to a bunch of tall
snowmounds. Keep to the right towards the wall and get the
shard.
#5: SLOW DOWN! Keep as left as you possibly can and you'll drop by
the natural rock bridge. The shard is under the bridge.

-That's all the coins there are! If you got them all congratulations!-
