[HELP]

Basic Premise
-------------

Chibi Maruko-Chan 3: Mezase! Game Taishou no Maki is an extremely linear
story game, as you can basically press A without ever touching another button to
scroll through every line of text in the game.

The basic storyline is of a tournament of sorts between Maruko-chan and
her classes, and several mini-games will break up the storyline. There is no
actual requirement to try to win or get a good score with every mini-game, but
there are two different endings apparently. One ending occurs if you get about
2000 or more points between all the mini-games, while a lesser ending occurs if
you are runner-up or poorer.

Every mini-game (except for the first mini-game) adds onto your running
score. You can practice with them from the title screen by selecting the second
or third option.

[MINI]

Mini-Game 1: Ball
-----------------
This appears to be the only game that does not actually give you any
points after. You are given 3 balls, one at a time. You must slowly navigate it
through several tunnels to the saferoom at the other end of the level, and be
careful not to hit the wall or else your wall will break. You can press forward
in the direction the ball is going on the D-pad to speed it up, or press the
opposite direction to brake it and eventually make it reverse direction.

Although most of the walls cause the ball to break on impact, there are
a couple of lined walls that this is not the case. However, if you are near the
top of the screen and you come down to one of these walls, the ball will fall
through it. Additionally, when you come to the smiley face, you need to press
right to go past it.

Mini-Game 2: Hoop
-----------------
In this mini-game, one of Maruko's classmates climbs up a pole with a
basketball hoop attached to his back. By pressing and holding down A, when you
release the A button, Maruko throws the basketball at an angle. The longer you
hold down the A button before you release, the higher and farther the throw
goes.

The hit detection is rather twitchy for the game to count a throw as
having been successfully made into the hoop, and there is no animation to
indicate a good throw, but hitting the hoop from the side will not give you any
points.

If you overthrow the ball, you can hit Maruko's classmate in the head.
This does not deduct any points, but he will move down a bit on the pole, and in
subsequent hits he may go back up as well. This changes the positioning of the
hoop as well, so you will have to evaluate how long you need to hold the A
button down for subsequent throws.

The mini-game lasts for 45 seconds. Every successful shot made gives you
10 points.

Mini-Game 3: Strength Test
--------------------------
The Strength Test is much like those carnival strength tests you see:
Maruko must hit a pedestal with a hammer, which in turn will send a bell up a
tower. The amount of strength behind the strike is determined by a bar to the
left side that fills up and down: the higher it is when you press the A button,
the higher the bell goes.

However, the more strikes you make, the less often the bar fills up
totally: the first strike, the bar will fill up completely every cycle, but by
the last strike, it will only fill up about once every four cycles, so you need
to watch the bar and get your timing down pat.

You have 5 strikes in total you can make. You can earn either 0, 10, 30
or 60 points depending on how hard you strike. Additionally, if you manage a
perfect game of 300 points, you get a special scene at the end of the ogre
falling off the tower.

Mini-Game 4: Flags
------------------
The author must admit, he is not quite certain as to how exactly this
game is played. You are given four sets of directions - one corresponding to the
A button, one to the B button, one to the D-Pad, and one where you touch nothing
at all. A and B raise the flag that Maruko carries in her left hand (right from
the player's perspective), and the D-Pad raises the flag in Maruko's right hand
(left from the player's perspective).

Apparently you basically have to raise the flags according to the on-
screen directions, and you get 10 points every time you do so correctly.
However, as you go through the 10 tries you get, you get more than one set of
directions per try, and it becomes quicker and more complex per try.

Mini-Game 5: Frisbee
--------------------
In playing Frisbee, the farther your throw, the better the score. How
far you throw is determined much the same as the strength test: by a bar to the
left side that fills up and down. The higher it is when you press the A button,
the further your frisbee goes.

However, the bar in Frisbee is a lot less friendly, as most of the time
it will only fill up about two thirds, with it being very rare that it fills
almost all the way up, and even rarer that it fills up completely, so you will
have to have twitch reflexes.

The maximum score you can get is 500, with 5 x 100. In practice,
however, typically the best you will get is a score of 90 per throw.

Mini-Game 6: Shoot the Target
-----------------------------
In a booth game, Maruko can move between three spots, left, centre, and
right. Two types of target will pop up behind the booth - a tomato man and a
flower man. By pressing the A button, you can throw a ball. If you hit a tomato
man, you gain 10 points, but you lose 10 points if you hit a flower man. You
have nominally 10 seconds to get as many points as you can, but the actual timer
takes longer than 10 seconds to tick down.

Mini-Game 7: Claw Machine
-------------------------
You are given a claw machine with three white dolls at top of the pile:
two rabbit dolls and a cat doll. Press and hold A to make the claw move left.
Once you let go of the A button, the claw will stop where it is at, then go down
and make an attempt to pick up the doll. You have a very tiny amount of leeway
with the claw positioning, but it needs to be fairly exact to pick up the doll.

You get 3 tries with the claw. The rabbit dolls are worth 30 points each
and the cat doll is worth 40 points, so you can obtain a maximum of 100 points.

Mini-Game 8: Singing
--------------------
So far as the author can tell, this is a simple 'rapidfire press A
button' game. The game counts down 10 seconds per try with a total of 5 tries,
and you obtain up to 80 points per try if you can fill the meter all the way up.

Mini-Game 9: Whack-A-Mole
-------------------------
In this game you play Whack-a-Mole. Because real Whack-A-Mole would be
rather difficult using a D-Pad and two buttons, instead the six holes moles may
pop out of are mapped to the Game Boy controls, such that the four holes on the
left correspond to left-down-right-up, while the upper right hole corresponds to
the A button and the lower right hole to the B button. Every time a mole pops
out of a specific hole, you need to press the button the hole is mapped to in
order to whack it.

You have a total of 30 seconds to hit all the moles that pop out. Every
time you smack a mole, you earn 10 points.

Mini-Game 10: Picture Flash
---------------------------
A picture of an object will quickly fly across the screen in this mini-
game, and this is repeated for a total of 10 times. Each time, you will be asked
what the object was that just flew by. It appears that each object will always
be a specific number in the selection of 1-4, so for reference:

       1. Rabbit, Bread
       2. Boat, Dog, Doll
       3. Human
       4. Egg

If you guess correctly, you get 10 points.

Other than that, considering this FAQ is for an obscure old game, if you
have any other obscure old games that you do not play anymore, consider sending
them to me (I will even pay the shipping cost!). I write FAQs for plenty of
obscure old games with no FAQs, and having a physical copy of the game (and even
better, a manual) is superior to not. You can email me if interested at
