==1. Revision History==
=======================
09/08/04 - 2.00 - Added MSK's guide to Irouhazaka in Version 2. Some
corrections, and driving techniques added. Oh and of course, F*** TokyoPop!
has been updated. If you don't like that section, then don't read it.
I am also annoucing that I am quitting updating this guide and I'm letting my
friend GrAyEeWoLf take over the guide. He is a much better driver than me in
the game and he is dedicated to it.
The reasons why is simple. I have to drive 1 hour away to play this game and
when I get there it's usually taken by people with a mountain of tokens or
dollars/quarters/whatever. Plus I had near death experiences on the highway,
that scared the bloody hell out of me. Besides, there are much better people
out there to make a guide out there (like ChaiThai but he claims to have
retired.)
Also I believe that I completed a task and made people aware of the crappy
Tokyopop versions of Initial D. I did something that made people more wiser
and not to waste their money on overly expensive and horrible versions of this
great series. I felt that I already made a difference.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their support.
--ViperMask
07/08/03 - 1.96 - I changed a few things in the car listings. First of all,
the Efini/Infini 3 is NOT the GT-X Savanna. The Efini 3 was a limited edition
of the FC3S Savanna. Second, the WRX STi GDB is NOT the Prodrive Style that
was released in Europe. My bad! I also made some corrections in the F***
TOKYOPOP! sections. For a big change, I finally added the "Home Course
Advantage" cars in the Version 2 section.
07/05/03 - 1.95 - I changed a few things. I can't remember what though because
it's been a while since I last worked on it. But I do know for sure that I
updated the F*** TOKYOPOP! section with more points that would support my
arguments. Anyways to you Formula 1 fans. Here's to a great race at Magny
Cours!
06/01/03 - 1.93M - Good lord it's been a while. I fixed some errors in the FAQ
and got rid of the unnecessary language in the guide. Oh yeah important note
(which you all know by now): Special Stage delayed till June 27th. If you want
to know what the M stands for. It stands for "Monaco" since this FAQ was
submitted during the 2003 Monaco Grand Prix.
Looks like some TokyoPop employees or overprotective parents didn't like my
anti-TokyoPop section and CJayC wanted me to change it! Well. I'll clean up
SOME of the language but I'm keeping the anti-TokyoPop section up there. So,
this is my middle finger to all of you TokyoPop supporters!
Updated the "F*** TOKYOPOP!", Special Stage, Copyright, Codes, Links,
Soundtrack, Cars and Tuners, Type of Cards, Track Listing (course info for
Myogi, Usui, Akagi and Akina) sections and changed Questions and Answers to
just "Frequently Asked Questions."
Oh yeah. If you are going to send me locations, ONLY SEND ME LOCATIONS OF THE
JAPANESE VERSIONS! I've been getting locations but no one tells me if it's the
Japanese ones or not. So don't even bother trying to e-mail me if you are
sending locations for the english versions, they will only be deleted. Oh
yeah. The same thing goes for people who uses the TokyoPop names.
01/01/03 - 1.75 - HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Here's to a great, prosperous 2003!
Anyways I accidently deleted the new songs from the track listing, a Special
Stage exclusive song has been added to the Special Stage section, adjusted the
format in the Version 2 Tracks, and there's a minor copyright update to keep
the automotive manufacturers happy.
12/25/02 - 1.70 - THE CHRISTMAS HYPER MEGAMIX VERSION 2 UPDATE! Yes everyone!
INITIAL D: Arcade Stage Version 2 is Officially out in Japan!!!!! Version 2
now gets it's own section! Other updates includes MORE RETARDED TOKYOPOP NAMES
and more b*tching from me! Suzuki section added, deleted the Itsuki note,
revision history now includes update dates, correction to Iketani's name,
Version 2 soundtrack correction, got rid of soundtrack note on "Beat of the
Rising Sun", ALTERNATIVE names to the cars, Help needed updated, the "Skyline"
bug deal has been updated but now it actually effects all cars. THE PLAYSATION
2 VERSION OF INITIAL D: ARCADE STAGE (which is named SPECIAL STAGE) which will
be released in March 27th of 2003! Also let me state:
NO MORE LOCATIONS NEEDED! THEY ARE EVERYWHERE NOW! But however. I'll only
take LOCATIONS FOR JAPANESE VERSIONS OF THE GAME. So all of you people who
call the characters by their fagtacular Tokyopop names can REPENT FOR YOUR
SINS!!!!!!!!! That's why section 10 (now known as section 11) has been
coverted to a anti-English version.
Sorry to everyone who already sent locations. I didn't put them in this
update. Forgiveness please! And all English machine locations have been
deleted. Before you read on, let me say that all Parts Courses from Version 2
are not on the guide. I need to wait for SEGA Rosso to update their webpage.
10/28/02 - 0.96 - Locations updated, "50 saves per card" controversy for the
English machines added in the English and Version 2 section, Locations updated
(mostly Australia), and a little Usui strategy added.
0.95 - Another update. Japan was taken out of the locations (in the contents
anyways) because you can probably find it anywhere in Japan. Australia added,
the "RS" tuner has been identified, very bad news on the English machines (it
made me cry!), some other locations added, more Myogi info, AI info, and a note
on the car tuning, those parts you earn do improve your car (what was I smoking
when I say they just change the appearance!?!?!?)
0.91 - Big update. F*** TOKYOPOP section added READ THAT FIRST! Contents have
been changed. Two new sub-sections for "Getting Started" added. Changed a few
things in The Tracks section and all tracks have the rivals info. Small guides
to Myogi right and Usui left added. Bosses added. Changed the name "Side Body
Kit" to "Side Skirt" in the cars section with a correction in the Mazda section
(I forgot to add RX-7 to the Efini 3 FC3S.) I updated the soundtrack section
with a small note. Codes and Secrets has been changed to "Codes, Secrets, and
Tips" and it has been updated. I updated locations and prices. Thanks and
Special Thanks updated. New link added. "HELP NEEDED!!!" has been changed.
Info on the English version and Initial D: Arcade Stage Version 2 added. And
finally a Questions and Answers section added.
0.72 - More info on Myogi added. First Locations and Prices added, and
Copyright was changed a bit.
0.69 - Holy crap! Donny Chan (another GameFAQs contributer) sends me some
important info even though he is not a Initial D fan! So there are some
corrections and additions in "What's Initial D?", "The Gameplay", "Codes and
Secrets", and three new links! I switched the Choosing Your Car and The Name
Screen, because that's the proper order when you first play the game. I have
also change the tracks section, the characters section and I updated my
Copyright info. For the tracks, I just added the Myogi (Easy) course, the
others will come later.
05/11/02 - 0.60 - First release. Not complete. Need a lot of help! If anyone
can fill me in on the game, I'll post it here and give you full credit.
1.1. Author's Note
==================
I would like to say that this game is in Japanese, and I learned some stuff
from help from some people, and a little bit of self experience. Also, for the
cars, I went to the SEGA Rosso homepage and translated it through
Altavista.com, but I tried to clarify a few things for the FAQ. Anyways, enjoy
the FAQ!
1.2. F*** TOKYOPOP!
===================
Why am I so hostile towards Tokyopop? Well they are translating the anime and
manga to english here. And oh my god, did they butcher the anime BAD. They
feel that "Westernizing" the names will make the anime more popular. This is
not true! It only butchers the anime. It's like rape!
We true, pure Initial D fans thought it was bad enough for them to change the
names, but oh no, they went much further: The soundtrack HAS CHANGED. Instead
of my worries of listening to Limp Bizkit or Eminem. We got something much
much worse. What we got was this RETARDED rap by people who probably never
listened to rap or hip hop in their lives and it sounds like something from
Seasame Street. It goes something like "Da Eight Six Rolling down the track,
Initial Drift, Initial Passion *a bunch of other crap that I couldn't bare to
listen*" and THIS S*** REPLACED the energetic Eurobeat soundtrack!
They also CHANGED THE BATTLE SCENES. They tried to added more visual affects
to the car battles but it looked cheap and godawful. And get this, their
slogan for Initial D is "Initialize Your Dreams!" What kind of g** s*** is
that!?
They ARE targeting Initial D to a bunch of little bastard children who probably
don't know a thing about cars. People have been telling me that they think it
could appeal to children to find out about the REAL Initial D. 100% untrue.
Kids and other people are too racist and prejudice to care about the real
Initial D. They will never find out what Initial D REALLY IS. You want to
prove me wrong? BUY THE HONG KONG PIRATED DVDs, or if you can read Japanese
THE ACTUAL DVDs FROM JAPAN.
Tokyopop did piss anime fans off in the past however. When it was known as
Mixx Entertainment and they had their Mixxzine, they included Sailor Moon as a
special comic, then the owner of Mixx move Sailor Moon to another zine named
"Smile!" (What kind of name is that!?) So this pissed off a ton of fans, and
the Editor got so pissed he resigned. Anyways check below for list of name
changes.
Here's the list of names.
Crap Names - Real Names
Tak - Takumi
Iggy - Itsuki
Cole - Iketani
Natalie - Natsuki
Boss - Yuuichi
Ry - Ryousuke
K.T. - Keisuke
Zack - Takeshi
Maya - Mako
Simone - Sayuki
Kyle - Kyouichi
Hawk - Seiji
Aki - Wataru (Hey Tokyopop, Aki is not a American name! It's Finnish!)
Carrie - Kazumi (Wataru's sister)
Dice - Daiki
Smiley - Sakai (Sakai literally means Smiley I think)
Touch - Tomoyuki
Kylie (Previously Kia) - Kyouko
Danny - Kenta (What the hell is that?!)
Caine - Kai
Nobu - Nobuhiko (Uh, "Nobu" still sounds Japanese)
Sid - Sakamoto
However Shingo, and Bunta escaped with their real names. But doesn't that
defeat the whole purpose of changing the names in the first place!?
It gets worse. They are changing the dialogs, and get this they want to change
Takumi into a PIZZA DELIVERY BOY instead of Tofu delivery driver! Why? To
appeal to those big TV network corporate f*****s and put the show on TV!
Also my friend Ryosuke had to sin and get volume 3 of the TokyoPop mangas for
some reason. This is what he found. I'm sure he will repent someday.
- Itsuki calling Takumi his "homie." like nearly every time.
Homie? No one said that since 1991!
- Tons of spelling and grammer errorz (like what I just did).
- Changing the dialog completely. (I.E. Takumi: "I'm not going to let a
dickweed like him win this race!")
- Natsuki Mogi's scences with Papa at the "hotel": DELETED.
- Listing the Trueno's engine runs on "Spirit, Talent, and Determination" (STD!)
- Saying that a Rotary engine runs on one cylinder, thus more power (which is
completely WRONG.)
- Translation errors in future versions. Like saying Seiji Iwaki drives a
Lancer Evolution VI (he actually drives a Lan Evo IV).
- In another volume: Listing Takumi Fujiwara as a Akina SpeedStar even though
he is not a team member.
The whole result of "Americanizing" everything (which is like RAPE) is a
butchered Initial D that is also a slap in the face to Japanese names and
cultures (AKA Racisim).
And get this...One of Stuart Levy's excuses to why he prefers dubbed to
subtitles was; "subtitles covers up the art of the anime and ruins it." So
here he is trying to call himself an artist with that excuse, trying everything
he can to justify his butchering. Well I'm not a artist, but I believe I have
the right to say that what Levy said was irrelevant and ignorant. My belief is
subtitles are there to help people UNDERSTAND the whole art and concept of the
anime, while keeping it's original form intact. While dubbed ruins the
original form of this great piece of art (Initial D in this case.)
Another thing! I don't believe the Japanese change the names when any American
comics or cartoons are released in Japan. Like they don't refer Homer Simpson
as "Hiroshi Sato" or some crap like that. They don't change Super Man's real
name to a more "Japanese name." So why are the North American companies are
changing everything to sound more "American"? It's a form of racisim!
Now TokyoPop released the DVDs with the original copies of Initial D on it.
BUT! It also contains the "translated" episodes too. TokyoPop (while trying
to appeal to ricer wannabe teenagers in a pathetic, half-assed matter) calls it
the "Tricked Out Edition" that includes "enhanced battle scenes." If you want
to know how bad the TokyoPop DVDs are, then I'll tell you.
- Completely changed the dialog. (Example: "I'm down with my man Cole." --
"Iggy.")
- Horrible voice actors that doesn't sound anywhere close to the original voice
actors.
- Mispronouciation (Aww-kina instead of Ah-kina)
- Horrible music by a bunch of amatuer garage bands and hip hop groups.
- Replaced the realistic engine sounds and sound effects with fake ones.
- Battle scenes have cheesy "special FX" with "blurring" and "color changing"
and "mirrored effects". Basically make it look like a really stupid music
video from the 1980's.
- To be honest, the "original" version has been edit itself. There is a scene
with Natsuki and "Papa" and Papa implies about....Doing THAT with her. Instead
they changed the subtitles to make it say "Well I've seen you in one." (a
bikini.)
- As for the "original" versions on the TokyoPop DVD. The quality is no
different compared to the pirated Hong Kong versions. Just that the TokyoPop
versions just has some annoying echo to it.
Besides, it's the first three episodes on DVD for in Japanese and English. So
it's more like paying $20 for JUST THREE EPISODES!? What a rip off. You can
get the translated DVDs by independent translators with all of the episodes for
$40 Canadian on 4 DVDs! Do the math.
Why did Stuart Levy do this, even though he preaches about "not to ruin the
original art" even though he did do the opposite and ruined the battle scenes?
Well one Initial D fan e-mailed him and get this. He said he did it because
"He liked it better." What a bloody hypocrite!
Unfortunatley there are some idiots out there with Neo Nazi attitudes defending
TokyoPop, saying it's understandable to destroy a civilization's culture to
appeal to the Americans. And these idiots dismiss evidence that SEGA made up
their own names and had no influence by TokyoPop for the english version of
Arcade Stage. Bull****. You cannot forget that when TokyoPop annouced they
will be releasing (raping) Initial D and releasing it to the Western World,
they also announced that they have changed the names, and even showed a list
simular to the one that I have above. And this is before SEGA released Arcade
Stage Version 1 in the United States/Canada. So they must of got some
influence by TokyoPop. Don't dismiss the facts to support your beloved fascist
TokyoPop "translators"!
With that said I must thank Quentin Tarantino for his amazing anime sequence in
Kill Bill Volume 1. Why am I bringing this up? It's because Quentin Tarantino
showed anime for truly what it is. A form of art, and it's important to show
off it's true beauty as an art form instead of marketing it as a money making
tool that so many people as done in America (and Japan at times.)
The best way to boycott Tokyopop is to NOT buy ANY of their products. Buy fan
translations of the anime instead! You can get those in places where there is
a big Asian community. A note for the DVD owners: Buy the real versions, not
the burned DVDs. The burned ones don't work on all machines!
So that's pretty much it. F*** TOKYOPOP!
=========================
==2. What is Initial D?==
=========================
Initial D is a popular anime and manga that takes place in the Gunma prefecture
in Japan. The main character is Takumi Fujiwara, a 18 year old boy who became
a drift style road racer. Takumi is in high school and has a job at the GS Gas
Station (Esso in the manga.) Itsuki Takeuchi (Takumi's friend) and Iketani
Kouichirou (the leader of the Akina Speed Stars) were working at the station,
and they were talking about cars and drift techniques. When Takumi asked them
what they were talking about and they laughed at him for his "stupidity" when
it comes to cars.
One night, Keisuke Takahashi of the popular Akagi Red Suns group was driving
his Mazda RX-7 Type-R on Akina Mt. Then a Hachiroku (literally means "eight
six") came up from behind him and then they basically raced and Keisuke was
defeated by the Hachiroku, or an OLD Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. Keisuke, was
pissed that his superior RX-7 was defeated by a old AE86!
Meanwhile, Iketani was working, Yuuichi Tachibana (his boss) told him that the
fastest driver in Akina is a man driving a Hachi Roku and owns a Tofu shop.
Iketani then finds out that it's Bunta Fujiwara, Takumi's father. One night,
Iketani was driving on Akina to improve his driving skills for his match
against the Red Suns, but he got into a huge accident and was put in a neck
brace. He then calls Bunta, asking if he can drive for him. Bunta said it's a
50/50 chance that he can make it.
Race Night. The Red Suns were waiting. Keisuke was ready to race against his
opponent. IF he shows up that is. Then the Truneo AE86 showed up. But to the
shock of everyone, Takumi steps out of the car. The Speed Stars were afraid
because Takumi didn't know a thing about cars. He then said that he beat RX-7
Type-R before. That's when Iketani realises that it wasn't Bunta that was the
fastest on Akina. It was Takumi!
I won't spoil the race but I will tell how Takumi started to drift. When he
was 13, he was delivering Tofu to a hotel on top of Akina Mountain late at
night. Takumi hated the fact that he was losing sleep so he can deliver tofu.
Bunta gave him a cup of water to put in the cupholder. He told Takumi, not to
spill any of the water, or the Tofu will break. At first, Takumi was spilling
a lot of water, but Bunta told him to "circle" the water, so Takumi did and
started to drift. Then he was driving and drifting so fast so he can get home
to sleep, NOT to improve his skills!
That's it. Go buy the First Stage on DVD to find out more! Just becareful.
Some places are selling copied versions of the DVD. Do not buy the copied
versions unless you KNOW that your DVD player can play the copied versions
(some can't!).
======================
==3. Getting Started==
======================
3.1. The Gameplay
=================
Okay, as you know already, Inital D: Arcade Stage is a racing game based on the
popular anime and manga. The thing is, unlike any other racing game, this game
heavily uses the drift style of racing. This means your car slides into turns
and usually out of turns. Kind of like the rallying in the World Rally
Championship. So when you go into a turn at a high speed, the rear end of the
car will fish tail and you must learn how to control the car while it's
drifting. Plus you cannot crash. You can skid the guard rail and lose about
10 klicks or more and you cannot gain speed for like 10 seconds. However the
10 second penalty has been purged in Version 2 for a much shorter pentalty (3
seconds) or at times, no longer exsists (i.e. DC2 on Iro.)
There are many drifting techniques out there. But I will post them later.
3.2. The Start Up Screen, Card System, and Points
=================================================
When you first start the game, you'll get a screen with two boxes with kanji in
them. One tells you to insert your card (if you have one) to continue playing
from that card, OR, to play the game with a new card OR without a card, push
start. From there you'll get a small tutorial. Now to get a card, you have to
put in more money. Card prices differ from each machine. You can tell how
much more money to put in by the red number (I.E. 3). After that, push the
view change button. If you don't want a card, just push start again.
Now you are probably thinking "What?? Cards? Huh??" Well the card is a size
of a trading card and if you get a card, this will hold information on your
progress in the game for story mode and time attack mode. And it holds your
points. One more thing: If you get your card, your kanji name and type of car
will be printed on a card with a random design on it (8 designs exsist.)
Finally, the points. Everytime you race your opponent and win, you get points,
and you spend the points on the car that you choose, by upgrading the
performance (like a special exhaust muffler), appearance (a sweet spoiler), or
other stuff. I'll explain a bit more in section 3.4.
3.3. Choosing Your Car
======================
You get to choose from a variety of cars from; Toyota, Nissan, Honda,
Mitsubishi, Mazda, and Subaru. You can change the colour of your car with the
shift knob. And after you select your car, you get to select the transmission
(Automatic or Manual), then you get to choose from a "Parts Course", either an
A Course, B Course, or sometimes a C Course. Some of the Courses in the game
reflect on some of the characters from the anime.
Example: Sprinter Truneo GT-APEX AE86, A Course = Takumi Fujiwara.
Nissian Sileighty RPS13, A Course = Mako Satou and Sayuki.
After you choose a course, you can win points by winning races, and after you
get enough points you can get your car upgraded, but the upgrading is
automatic, and you cannot choose what upgrade to get.
Remember: After you select your car and transmission, then saved it to a card,
your stuck with it forever.
Here's a very important tip: AVOID AUTOMATIC! It's TokyoPop quality (crap)!
Manual is a must because you need to control the gear shifting if you want to
be fast.
3.4. The Name Screen
====================
A bunch of Japanese Kanji, and I think some Katakana. You only have a maximum
of 5 characters to put in your name. Use the steering wheel to move the select
icon left and right, and the shift knob to move it up and down. If you leave
your name blank, you'll get an automatic kanji name.
3.5. Story Mode or Time Attack?
===============================
You get a option with two boxes with some Japanese kanji or katakana
characters. The top option is Story Mode where you race against rivals on the
tracks (read below) or you can race by yourself against time in Time Attack.
Use the steering wheel to choose your options.
The thing about Time Attack is that I find it less stressful and you get to
know the track a little bit. So if your inexperenced, do time attack first.
And you still get points in time attack! Also you can choose the direction and
time of day in Time Attack.
3.6. The Tracks
===============
You got your basic track difficulties here: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard.
The tracks are based on those from the anime. You face your rivals here in
story mode at day or night time, or race alone in Time Attack mode. Beware,
sometimes you race on the track backwards against opponents!
The rivals will be listed like this:
Name - Rating Level - Car - Day/Night Battle - Right (Normal) or Left
(Backwards) OR Uphill or Downhill (Depending on courses). - Points (if you win).
Please note that in the notes area, it has some MINOR spoilers from the anime.
You've been warned.
In Time Attack mode, choose your course, then you'll be asked if you want to
race in the left or right direction, then finally; day or night. Choose
whatever you want!
Something about the rival AI that Wen told me: "I was racing on Myogi against
Nakazato and his R32, and I can run the Grand Curve, but I can't get a lead on
him. I haven't quite gotten the hang of overtaking yet, they seem to be adept
at blocking, and yet they're also proficient at overtaking from the rear if the
opportunity arises. I've yet to see a player cut in front of an opponent at 180
on a corner."
I should note that from my own experence, the launch from the start and not
screwing up are key to winning a race.
3.6.1. Myogi (Easy)
===================
Right route: A easy stage. You really don't have to break on this track. The
only time you should break is at the big hairpin with the elevation change
(which I call the "Mirrored Grande Hotel Hairpin" because it resembles the
famous hairpin at the Monaco Formula 1 track. You can call it by it's old name
"Loews Hairpin" if you want.). Just let go of the gas pedal and turn and step
on the gas in the middle of the turn to complete the turn and you should be
able to take the turn at more than 190 KMH. Maybe more than 200 KMH! The exit
can serve as a passing point if your opponent messes up there. This is a 98%
FLAT OUT track!
Iketani Kouichirou - 1/10 - Silvia K's (S13) - Day - Left - 700
Notes: Too easy. Great for beginners
Itsuki Takeuchi - 1/10 - Levin (AE85) - Day - Right - 1000
Notes: Same as above, but just to point out: The game uses the AE86 model but
it's the AE85.
Shingo Shouji - 3/10 - Civic SiR II (EG6) - Day - Left - 1000
Notes: A little more challenging, I can't remember if he used dirty tatics in
the game like he does in the anime.
Takeshi Nakazato - 4/10 - Skyline GT-R (R32) - Night - Right - 1000
Notes: First time I had a problem with someone. Make sure you do not crash at
all! He uses a "grip" style of driving so this means heavy braking at turns,
and no drifting at all! Make sure he doesn't pass you at "Grande Hairpin" or
you WILL LOSE.
3.6.2. Usui (Normal)
====================
Left Route: Mostly a fun flat out track. With the two sharp hairpins (which I
will refer to as Parabolica), all you have to do is let go of the gas early and
start turning from the outside of the curve, all the way to the inside, and
then press the gas pedal down when you reach the straight part or in the inside
of the turn you should be able to take the Parabolica corners at more than 160
KMH. In the rest of the course, go flat out!
Due to the speed of those two hairpins. I decided to name them after one of
the fastest corners in Formula 1. I called those hairpins "Parabolica" because
not only it looks like the Parabolica corner in Monza, Italy. But the average
speed of that corner is almost exactly the same too.
Mako & Sayuki - 2/10 - Sileighty (RPS13) - Day - Left - 750
Keisuke Takahashi - 3/10 - RX-7 Type R (FD3S) - Day - Right - 1200
Wataru Akiyama - 4/10 - Levin (AE86) - Night - Left - 1500
Kai Kogashiwa - 5/10 - MR2 G-Limited (SW20) - Night - Right - 3000
3.6.3. Akina (Hard)
===================
Downhill: This long, twisty downhill track is the staple track in Initial D due
to most of the battles being taken place there in the First Stage. Here you'll
find a beginner taking most of the tight hairpins at more than 113 KMH. A good
driver can take them at 130 KMH or more. You can also use the gutters like
Takumi Fujiwara in the anime. They are suppose to help you take the turns at a
much higher speed.
Seiji Iwaki - 4/10 - Lancer Evolution IV RS (CN9A) - Day - Uphill - 1500
Kyouichi Sudou - 5/10 - Lancer Evolution III GSR (CE9A) - Day - Downhill - 2000
Ryousuke Takahashi - 7/10 - RX-7 Efini 3 (FC3S) - Night - Uphill - 2500
Takumi Fujiwara - 8/10 - Trueno (AE86) - Night - Downhill - 3000
3.6.4. Happougahara (Very Hard)
==============================
All battles at Happougahara are at night.
Daiki Ninomiya - 6/10 - Civic Type R (EK9) - Inbound - 1700
Sakai - 7/10 - Integra Type R (DC2 Turbo) - Outbound - 3000
Tomoyuki Tachi - 8/10 - Civic Type R (EK9) - Inbound - 6000
Keisuke Takahashi - 9/10 - RX-7 Type R (FD3S) - Outbound - 9000
3.6.5. Bosses
=============
Takumi Fujiwara at Happougahara - 10/10 - Trueno (AE86) - Uphill - 10000
Bunta Fujiwara at Akina - 10/10 - Impreza WRX STi (GC8) - Night - Downhill -
12000
3.7. Continuing From a Card
===========================
When you continue a game from a card, the game will load the card info and list
the stats on the screen. Use the view change button to view each file of your
card info. Then push start. After that, you'll get the Story Mode or Time
Attack option. That's pretty much it.
================
==4. Version 2==
================
Yup. Initial D: Arcade Stage Version 2!! Version 2 balanced out all of the
cars (LOL! Nice joke there), has slightly improved graphics, WET WEATHER
racing, adds new music, two new tracks, new opponents, a new mode, new cars,
new art and options and more! Some other info includes: the "rocket start"
from Version 1 does not work anymore. And get this...THE INTEGRA DC2 IS NOW
THE MOST POWERFUL CAR IN THE GAME! From initial reports, people say that the
DC2 has become the most powerful car on Akina, Happogahara and Irouhazaka, and
that a stock Integra can defeat a 100,000 point RX-7 FD3S!
Note: If you want to choose wet weather in time attack, it appears before the
time of day option.
One note I must stress is that the penalty of smashing into the wall and not
being able to accelerate for 10 seconds has been toned down a lot. It's more
like 2 seconds now and the game is a lot more forgiving when you smash the wall
(especially with the DC2!)
Also in Version 2 is the addition of "Home Course" cars. Each track is suppose
to have a car where it suppose to gain a advantage over other cars. However,
SEGA kinda messed up on this part. Here are the listings. And yes, I WILL
point out the errors SEGA made.
Myogi - Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (BNR32)
Myogi Wet - Cappuccino (EA11R)
Usui - Sileighty (RPS13)
Usui Wet - Sileighty (RPS13)
Akagi Downhill - RX-7 Type R (FD3S)
Akagi Downhill Wet - RX-7 Type R (FD3S)
Akagi Uphill - RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD3S-V)
Akagi Uphill Wet - RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD3S-V)
Akina - Cappuccino (EA11R)
Akina Wet - Integra Type R (DC2)
Happougahara - Integra Type R (DC2)
Happougahara Wet - Integra Type R (DC2)
Irouhazaka - Integra Type R (DC2)
Irouhazaka Wet - Integra Type R (DC2)
As you can tell, the fastest on Akina is suppose to be Trueno (AE86), and on
Irouhazaka it was suppose to be the Lancer Evolution III. However, due to the
sheer cheapness of the Integra, it has become the fastest car. But remember,
it is only fast in the hands of a skilled driver. Most of the DC2 drivers out
there are so full of s*** because they think they are good even though they
just hit the walls like crazy.
4.1. Challenge Accepting Screen
===============================
Now you'll notice a screen with two options. One option on the left with red
kanji, and one on the right with blue kanji. Use the steering wheel and the
gas pedal to choose your option.
Thanks to Kami Kaze no Kami from the GameFAQs message board for the following
info.
When you first press start, you get a screen with two options.
If the other player is playing AND he's accepting challenges, then left one is
NOT going to challenge, the right one is to start a challenge.
If nobody is playing the other side, then the left is NOT accepting challenges,
the right one is accepting challenges.
When you are playing, you can use the start button to switch between accepting
challenges and refusing challenges.
4.2. Data Conversion
====================
After the Challenge Accepting Screen, you get the typical "Insert Your Card or
Push Start" screen from Version 1. Insert your version 1 card, then insert the
amount of money listed and it will convert all data from version 1 to version
2. However the only things you keep is your name, car, parts course, and
transmission. You will lose your upgrades, time and battle records. Your
version 1 card is now unusable.
4.3. English Alphabet in Name Input Screen
==========================================
The game now supports Romanji (the English Alphabet). The first characters on
your screen are kanji of course. Go to the option ABOVE the RED KANJI (the
"finished" option) and step on the pedal. You now have English characters. To
revert back to kanji, choose the same option (since the Kanji and Romanji
swapped places.)
4.4. Challenge Bunta Fujiwara Mode
==================================
You see your typical "Story Mode, Time Attack Mode" screen but the third new
option is Challenge Bunta Fujiwara mode.
How it works is that you race him on certain tracks and try to earn wins
(represented by stars). Everytime you win, Bunta will become more difficult to
defeat.
The first 10 stars, is vs. Bunta using the old Trueno AE86. The second 10
stars is Bunta using the AE86 with the new engine. Then finally, the third 10
stars is Bunta using the Impreza WRX.
4.5. The New Options
====================
When continuing from a card, you have the typical records file, car information
file, etc. But the new file is (the last one) is new options. Keep tapping
the view change until it shows up. Use the shift knob to choose and option,
and the start button to select it. Options include:
Background Music (BGM): On, Off, ???
Map: On, Off, Cup of Water
Steering Wheel Tightness: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
(The higher the number, the harder it is to turn. 5 is the default.)
Time Display Mode: Normal, Simple
????: ????, ????
As for the Cup of Water, what it does is it replaces the map with that. It is
suppose to help your driving style (on courses that you remember completely).
What your suppose to is to circle the water like what Takumi did while
delivering tofu. However I couldn't even get the water to circle at all. If
you can circle the water during the entire race, it means you mastered the
course. Thanks to ZeroHiei for the info on the new options.
4.6. Card Renewal
=================
Okay this is the part that really pisses me off. I am afraid that SEGA Rosso
decided to limit the card saves thanks to the influence from those SEGA of
America dumbf**ks. The card renewal screen should show up when you covert your
old card or buy a new one. However it's just information with stuff I cannot
read. However when Card Renewal (Vechicle Inspection) does come up. You can
change the transmission and Parts Course if you wish.
4.7. The New Track Listings
===========================
New tracks, new listings. And now for the first time on each course, there are
HIDDEN CHARACTERS! However I don't know who they are. Rivals are listed in
the same way as above. But no info on time of day, weather or difficulty
level. Sorry.
4.7.1. Myogi
============
Itsuki Takeuchi - 1/10 - Levin SR (AE85) - Left
Takumi Fujiwara - 2/10 - Levin SR (AE85) - Right

Takeshi Nakazato - 5/10 - Skyline GT-R (R32) - Left
4.7.2. Usui
===========
Two People From Tokyo - 2/10 - Silvia spec-R (S15) - Left
Nobuhiko Akiyama - 2/10 - Altezza RS-200 (SXE10) - Right
Mako Satou & Sayuki - 6/10 - Sileighty (RPS13) - Left
Sakamoto - 7/10 - Cappuccino (EA11R) - Right
4.7.3. Akagi
============
Downhill: Now THIS is a fun track. There are plenty of straightaways with
challenging turns so it's a good technical track to master before trying Akina.
One of the best things about this track is that it's more wider than the other
courses so the chance of you hitting the outside wall has decreased.
Kyouko Iwase - 3/10 - RX-7 Type R (FD3S) - Uphill
Kenta Nakamura - 4/10 - Silvia Q's (S14) - Downhill
Keisuke Takahashi - 7/10 - RX-7 Type R (FD3S) - Uphill
Ryosuke Takahashi - 8/10 - RX-7 Efini 3/GT-X Savanna (FC3S) - Downhill
4.7.4. Akina
============
Kenji - 2/10 - Nissan 180 SX (RPS13) - Uphill
Iketani Kouichirou - 3/10 - Silvia K's (S13) - Downhill
Wataru Akiyama - 8/10 - Levin (AE86) - Uphill
Takumi Fujiwara - 9/10 - Trueno (AE86) - Downhill
4.7.5. Happougahara
===================
All battles at Happougahara are at night.

4.7.6. Irouhazaka
=================
All battles at Irouhazaka are downhill.
Seiji Iwaki - 6/10 - Lancer Evolution IV RS (CN9A)
Kyouichi Sudou - 7/10 - Lancer Evolution III GSR (CE9A)
Kai Kogashiwa - 8/10 - MR2 G-Limited (SW20)
Keisuke Takahashi - 9/10 - RX-7 Type R (FD3S)
Takumi Fujiwara - 10/10 - Trueno (AE86)
Downhill: This is M.S.K.'s guide translated by 21XL. M.S.K. is one of the best
players in the world. Big thanks to both of them for providing us with this
guide.
As most of you know, Irohazaka is the setting for the duel between Takumi and
Kai in the manga. The design of the course is deceivingly simple. To build the
simplest of mountain roads, i believe that the design of Irohazaka would be
ideal. utilizing only 180 degree hairpins to go downhill, this kind of design
would save a lot of time in terms of design and the actual build process of
such a road in real life. This is also the reason why one needs at LEAST 2.3x
in the game to finish the course. The motto of Iro is basically, it's a simple
course to learn, but difficult to master. Players often go faster / slower than
their personal best without ever knowing why. THIS is what makes Irohazaka
interesting and addicting to play.
Iro Theory
Due to the fact that Iro is a one way street, the track itself is narrower than
most places. In places like this, THEORETICALLY, the racing line should'nt hold
that much importance. But this is not the case. The reason is because there are
about 27 corners in iro in total. If the improper line was driven on ONE
corner, the effect would be negligable. But multiply that number 27 times and
it'll be devastating to the TA results. Let's just say for argument's sakes
that the difference between the best line and the worst is at best, 0.07
seconds per corner. 0.07 * 27 = 1.89s. A difference of almost 2 seconds could
be had. From this ALONE, one can see the importance of driving the best line
thru Iro.
Iro Technique
Jumps
As almost all of you know by now, there are certain places on Iro where one
could take a "more" inner line. The places where this technique could be
employed are in the 3rd, 6th and 9th turn in the 3rd sector. There's no doubt
that jumping could allow you to take a more inner line, however, even using
THIS line, there's an outer line, and an apex in the jumps. Since the jumps
have room more than one car length, therefore, one must also clip the apexes of
the jumps before it could be considered passable.
As for the lines in the jumps, some people might run into the problem at the
8th turn of sector 3. You cannot run the inner line on this jump cuz it'll not
set you up for the 9th turn properly, and thus INCREASING your cp3 times. This
will be discussed at length further on in this guide.
Hitting The Apex
Although HITTING the apex isn't a skill like that of the gutter technique on
akina, however thru experimenting and thinking, the players have developed this
technique that not only works, but works quite well as illustrated by the fact
that one could exit corners at 5km/h faster than if one DIDN'T hit the inner
rail of the apex.
as the name states, this technique is to purposely HIT the car on the rail of
the apex. By doing this, one's basically using the front end of the car as a
lever while rotating the rear end of the car to increase the turning power of
the vehicle. Add this w/ high speed to cause the car to "slide" towards the
corner exit would result in a higher than normal exit speed.
However, if one uses this technique when the speed's too low or hitting the
rail too early, it'd result in going reverse. So unless the player has pretty
good fundamentals to begin with, this should not be attempted.
Having said that, since this technique involves HITTING rails, this would
compromise the straight line acceleration after the corner exit. In all of Iro,
there's only ONE suitable corner to use this technique, and that is on the 3rd
corner of sector 3. The normal exit speed in that corner is 101 km/h. Using
this technique could bring it up to 103 km/h. since the straights aren't long
after the exit, therefore it could be sacrificed by trying to go for a higher
corner exit speed even if it means hitting the rail.
"Grinding" the apex
Normal apexes like the ones in the 2nd sector for example, requires one to put
the wheels onto the grassy areas in order to even be considered acceptable.
However, to get even CLOSER to the apex, one can challenge themselves by
"grinding" the apex.
On Iro, to get the car to clip the apex EXACTLY, one can feel the car touching
the rail, but will NOT hear any contact noises. THAT is when you know, you've
left ZERO room between your car, and the apex.
Like the above technique, one can develop this thru trial and error and the
COURAGE to screw up. Once you can control the steering input to a very fine
degree, then basically you've got the fundamentals to this technique.
Through experiment, I've found that this technique could be used in the whole
track. However, the highest chance of success using this technique are in the
low speed corners in sector 2. The difference between driviing thru the grass
and GRINDING the rail on cp2 is a difference of 0.1 second for that sector
alone.
Though it is recommended that until one achieves a time of 2.34.5 or below,
that they resort to this technique.
Iro Guide: Target time: 2.34.480
Sector 1 (39.230): Since there aren't a lot of corners in this sector, this
means that the car's straight line speed is more important than the cornering
speed. Translation: do NOT hit anything going in, and coming out of corners.
first turn: Upon corner entry, there should be some japanese characters on the
road. at the end of the string of characters, brake and downshift to 3rd at the
same time. upshift to 4th immediately after exit. 103-4km/h at exit. a CLEAN
exit is key.
second turn: At the end of the slight right before the corner, brake and enter
in 4th gear. exit speed should be 100-102km/h If the exit of the first corner
is clean, you could get away w/ a minor touch w/ the rail in this corner.
Sector Two
Since the proportion of corners and straights seems to be pretty evenly divided
in this sector, therefore if you can focus on the cornering speed and
maximizing exit speed, this would give you a good time.
Target time is 41.700
1st turn: There are some yellow lines on the track before heading into this
turn. Downshift to 3rd and brake BEFORE hitting the yellow lines, and aim for
an exit speed of 90-94 km/h. Upon reaching this corner, the speed would be
around 130 km/h, and since this corner is a left-right combination, therefore
heavy braking must be applied.
A lot of times, players will feel the car as if it's "paralyzed" and thus
unable to turn right. The cure to this paralysis, would be to take as straight
a line as possible when entering the left kink and use weight transfer to
"slide" the car to clip that left apex before entering the right hander haipin.
Moreover, one can begin entering the right hander if the car's halfway thru the
left handed kink. Your car might be 1-2km/h slower on corner exit, but not
taking this line would cost you 0.1 of a second and in battles, leave the door
wide open for your opponent to overtake you.
2nd corner: 4th gear off throttle, 104-106km/h exit
3rd corner: brake + 3rd gear, 94-96km/h exit
4th corner: 4th gear, off throttle, 105-108 exit
5th corner: brake + 4th gear, 103-105 exit. brake earlier than what it seems or
it'd be hard to hit the apex.
6th corner: brake + 4th gear, 99-100 exit. a minor graze of the wall on exit is
acceptable.
7th corner: 4th gear, off throttle. 108-110 exit. Since the straight is
somewhat long after this corner, therefore the goal isn't for a high corner
speed but rather a clean exit.
8th corner: 4th gear w/ braking. 109-111 exit.
Sector Three
Sector 3 contains Irohazaka's jumps. Although the jumps are quite close and
obviously the lines are very important, however one mustn't lose sight on the
fact that this sector also tests your acceleration and straight line speed.
Target time is 37.9
1st corner: 4th gear w/ braking. 104-106 exit. Acceptable to graze the rail on
exit.
2nd corner: 4th gear with MINOR off throttle. It's not a complete off throttle,
maybe 1/5th of the way at most. Exit speed should be between 122-124km/h and if
it's a complete off throttle, there's no way 124 could be reached.
3rd corner: 4th gear w/ brake. 98-100 exit. Can use HITTING the apex rail (see
above) technique and thus causing the exit speed to be as high as 105 km/h
4th corner: brake + 3rd gear, 95-97 km/h
5th corner: off throttle + 3rd gear, 95-98 km/h exit.
6th-9th corner: 6th corner need to use brakes + 3rd gear entry, 7th - 9th is
off throttle in 3rd. My apologies for not remember the speed for each one since
the line is more important than speed by 10 folds. Thus my focus in this
complex has always been on the line rather than speed. All I know is, if the
proper line was followed, the 9th corner exit speed would not exceed 94km/h.
On another note, if you take the "best" line thru the 8th turn, one can feel
that the car can't land and thus affecting your sector 3 time. the car can't
lnad thru the best line because the speed is too low, and the jump area is too
wide...so to cure this, take a wider line on entry and the car can land w/
sufficient speed to jump the 9th corner.
10th corner: 4th gear, throttle off. 101-103 exit. clean pass is the key since
the straight is one long one after this turn.
Sector Four
Put it simply this is an advanced derivative of sector two. Only it places even
MORE emphasis on clean lines since it has a major affect on acceleration after
the final corner.
Target time: 35.650
1st and 2nd corner: brake + 3rd gear to enter 1st corner. 90km exit (approx)
then full out and enter the 2nd corner, shift to 4th gear on exit and aim for
an exit of 102-104 km exit speed. The trick to passing this right left combo is
to use out-in-mid for the first turn so that you can hit the apex of the 2nd
turn. Quick hands are a must after exit of first turn, otherwise you cannot
pass thru the 2nd corner cleanly AND w/ full throttle.
3rd corner: 4th gear w/ brake. 105-107 exit
4th corner: 4th gear off throttle, 101-103 exit. Try to use the ALL the room on
the right to enter this corner. Do not lift and turn too early or you'll hit
the wall cuz you WILL floor it earlier than recommended.
5th corner: 4th gear, full throttle. your exit speed is determined by the
result of ur previous corner. I repeat again, LINES! LINES! LINES!
6th corner: 4th gear + brake. 100-103 exit. you CANNOT hit the wall on this</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
one. rather sacrifice speed or you'll pay the price the rest of the way
7th and final corner: 4th gear w/ partial off throttle, 111-113 exit..
Irohazaka Improvement Formula
2.40 (Beginner)
If it's a DC2, and the speeds are in the range of 85-140km/h w/ no major
crashes, this time acheivable.
2.36 (Advanced)
Have mastered the basic racing lines and are passing the corners at the limit
-3km/h w/o any heavy crashes
2.34 (Expert)
taking even better lines than 2.36 and speeds are at the limit -1km/h w/o any
crashes but only minor grazes.
2.33 (Pro)
2.34 technique + grinding the inner rail
2.32 (King of the hill)
rocket start a MUST along w/ all the skills described above.

==5. The Cars and Tuners==
==========================
Note: All cars listed will follow this type of format.
Car model (version) - Drivetrain - Gears - Aspiration (Turbo or Natural [NA])
Colours available
Course (Character if possible) - List of Tuners
Parts that you can get are here.
Drivetrains: FR = Front engine, rear wheel drive
MR = Mid engine, rear wheel drive
FF = Front engine, front wheel drive
4WD = Four Wheel Drive/All Wheel Drive
Each Parts Course makes the car look different and increase your performance.
The differences between the courses is in the parts you get and HOW it affects
your car's attributes (like acceleration, top speed, handling, etc.) The A
Course would give you a rear wing and a carbon fibre hood, while a B Course
would give you a new hood and a rear spoiler. Also. The A course could have
the best acceleration while the B course could have better handling. It's a
big trade off for some, so please choose wisely!
The benefits from the performance parts: Wheels improve traction.
Spoilers/body kits/skirts/wings improve your handling in corners, and mufflers
improve your speed and acceleration.
Further more, even though the game in unrealistic, it simulates the drive
trains well.
The Front Wheel Drive has understeer and makes it hard to handle in some
corners. However understeer is eliminated through left foot braking techniques
(or handbrake techniques). Most cheap production cars like the Honda Civic use
this drivetrain because it's practical for regular everyday all season driving.
If you drift in a FF car, expect your front tires to lose their grip quickly if
you push hard from the beginning.
Rear Wheel Drive is mostly used in sports cars and the car turns easier with
RWD. However in some cars this may also lead to oversteer and spinning out if
you put in too much steering input. RWD is horrible to use in the snow and mud.
Mid Engine Rear Wheel Drive cars has the engine in the back of the car, which
will help relieve it of understeer in some rear wheel cars. However, in some
cars, this may lead to too much oversteer (especially in the MR2). All open
wheel race cars (i.e. Formula 1) are mid engine rear wheel drive cars.
Four Wheel Drive/All Wheel Drive cars have amazing traction and suck the ground
like a vacuum cleaner (well the Subarus at least). A 4WD car is a great
investment especially for mud and snow driving. However 4WD cars have bad
cornering ability. But in the latest 4WD/AWD systems, doesn't seem to have
that problem. And besides, proper tuning and driving technique will get rid of
that drawback completely (especially with 4WD drift!) Nearly rally car in the
world these days uses 4WD. If there is serious flaw in 4WD, it has to be that
you shouldn't be using 4WD in trucks unless you are going off terrain. 4WD +
Truck (with it's high centre of gravity) = Truck rolling. So only use 4WD in a
truck when you are going off terrain driving.
The main difference between 6 gear and 5 gear cars is that the 6 gear cars
usually have a better launch (the start) and the game goes for most cars in the
game.
As for the Turbo vs. NA cars. Some turbo tuned cars suffer from "turbo lag".
Turbo lag is when you push on the pedal and it takes 2 seconds for the car to
accelerate. Turbo cars are great on straightaways and on the exit of a corner.
Some turbo cars are hard to handle if you can't cope with the lag. Especially
in the rain. However in game terms this only seems to affect Kyouko's Single
Turbo FD.
NA tuned cars gives you an instant responce once you step on the pedal. So the
the cornering enterance speed is much better than a turbo car. (In real life.)
To put it in more simple terms: NA cars for twisty courses where the horsepower
difference isin't as sevre (like Monaco in Formula 1.) Turbo cars for high
speed circuits like the Indy 500 oval and the OLD Hockenheimring.
In Version 1, the cars's basic tunes are completed at 60,000 points but you can
still get more things like oil changes, or parts changes that changes the
appearance of the cars (like new rims and spoilers). In version 2 the basic
tunes stop at 120,000 points and parts changes are now identified.
Let me clarify something: In Version 2 most of the characters from the
anime/manga will occupy Parts Course A (I.E. Takumi Fujiwara Parts Course A for
the Trueno AE86) and they might have a special tune like a new engine, turbo
kit, supercharger, or something like that. You can only get the special tunes
like the engine if you get Parts Course A. If you renew your card and change
the Parts Course, you still get that special tune like the engine. However if
you started with another option other than A (like B) but you change the Parts
Course to A, you will not get that special tune.
Here's a example. If you get an A Course Trueno AE86 you will get Takumi's TRD
AE101 Engine. Change it to a B Course Trueno, and you will keep the engine.
If I started on a B Course Trueno, THEN change it to an A Course, I will NEVER
get that engine.
So I STRONGLY advise you to get Parts Courses which are used by the characters,
THEN change it to something else at card renewal (if you want to.) Are we all
clear on that? GOOD!
Oh and I must stress this: If you get the misfiring system for the Lancer
Evolution III, DO NOT CHANGE THE MUFFLER or you will LOSE THE MISFIRING SYSTEM
UNTIL YOU CHANGE COURSES!
Thanks for ZeroHiei for this info.

Description: In Version 1, this is the worse car to use due to the heavy
understeer and horrible top speed (163 KMH!). Avoid it like the plague.
However, in Version 2 this has become the 9th best car!!!! It received a huge
boost in performance and became a really good car. It's even ranked the 3rd
fastest car IN THE WET! I have no idea why it became so powerful, I don't know
the details.

Description: The best FF car, bar none! This was the 5th fastest car in
Version 1, but in Version 2, this has become the best overall car in the game
(in dry AND wet conditions)! It's such a cheapass car. If you hit the wall by
going too fast, you still accelerate as if you completed the turn with no
problem! If you drive this car, don't be too proud of yourself because this
car is so damn cheap. As I wrote above: Most of the DC2 drivers out there are
so full of s*** because they think they are good even though they just hit the
walls like crazy. You want to see a good driver in a DC2? Watch people like
Extra HC from Hong Kong, and other of the top ranked Initial D drivers, they
will show you how good they really are! In Version 3, this car got a huge
performance hit. SEGA's programmers b*tched slapped it after the DC2 enjoyed a
run of being a cheap car. Infact in Version 3, people avoid it now unless they
want a challenge!

Description: This car suffers from heavy understeer. Plus the headlights are
so damn ugly. Other than that the 6 gears can make it confusing on a really
twisty course like Happougahara. If you want to drive this car, I have a
suggestion: Use the B Course. The other two courses are too ugly and the B
Course makes it look more like the World Rally Championship car.

Cappuccino (EA11R) - FR - 5 Gears - Turbo - Version 2
Red, Silver, Black, Green, Blue
Description: This car is insanely fun to drive. This thing inhertia drifts
like crazy. If you master the technique for this car, you can easily do Akina
in under 3 minutes! You should try driving this car in Myogi in the wet. The
Mirrored Grande Hotel Hairpin in the rain gives you a extreme inhertia drift
which is SO FUN to do (and watch if you're a spectator!)

==6. Driving Techniques==
=========================
Gas off Drifting - It's really a beginner's technique for Myogi and Usui. When
approaching the corner, step off the gas then steer quickly (but not hard so
you won't damage the machine) in the direction of the corner, and counter steer
(turning the opposite way) to correct the direction of the car if needed.
Braking Drift - A simple, and common technique that involves braking before a
corner (about 50 meters or more or less) then steering in the direction of the
corner, then pushing on the gas at the apex (somewhat like in the middle of the
turn/near the exit) the accelerate away. Counter steering may be needed.
Shifting in General - In Version 2 and 3 at the start, there are "Shifting
Points" for each car, if you do the shifting correctly, you should have a very
good launch at the start. Also downshifting before or after a corner may be
needed. Downshifting (Going down a gear) or Upshifting (going up a gear)
should be used with any technique if necessary.
Feint Drifting - The technique to use in Akina is very hard to master.
Basically it involves starting on the inside line then rocking the car out to
the outside, then steering hard inside, then exiting to the outside (if done
correctly.) Basically an In-Out-In-Out approach. See Eskimo Fob's Initial D:
Special Stage Akina guide for more information.
There are more techniques but those are the only ones I know.

==9. Codes, Secrets, and Tips==
===============================
Turn Off Headlights.
Has to be a Night Stage. Just hold the start button for 1-2 seconds to turn
off the headlights. Do it again to turn on the headlights.
Launch Start for Version 1.
At the start, hold the gas pedal all the way down, and when the screen says
"GO!", shift into third gear. Some players have geared into second or fourth.
So it depends on some people's preferences. (Thanks to tromik for reminding me
about it and adding his own notes.) This does not work in Version 2.
Disabling Boost
To turn off the boost in 2 Player Mode, both players must fully press and hold
the brake pedal at the loading screen until the words "BOOST OFF!" appears on
the screen.
Disabling boost will give you a fair match because boost gives the weaker
player a advantage and gives the stronger player screwed up handling and
acceleration. It will be a true test of player skills!
Unlocking the Subaru Impreza WRX STi V (GC8V) in Version 2
At the car manufacturer's screen, enter the following code:
Move the shifter Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down, then Hold the Brake
and press View Change.
If you entered the code correctly, you should hear an engine sound. Select
Subaru and the GC8V should be available (you may have to go past the GDB to
select it.)
Thanks for Shugo No Tenshi and Kami Kaze no Kami and ZeroHiei for bringing this
to light. Let me say that this is rated the 4th best car in Version 2 on
initiald.org.

==10. Type of Cards==
=====================
This is a list of cards that you can get from the machine. Listed in no
particular order. This is my OWN description of the cards by the way. Cards
will display your name, key number, car, and area cleared. Version 2 includes
a "Bunta Fujiwara Mode" section on the card.
I MUST STRESS THAT: If your card is stuck in the slot, push start and view
change at the same time so it will eject! DO NOT try to pull it out with your
keys, or a nail file, or anything like that!
Version 1 Cards (In no particular order.)
1. Truneo with Carbon fibre Hood. Racing with close up of Takumi's Face.
2. Takumi with the Truneo in the winter.
3. The Takahashi Brothers.

==11. Special Stage==
=====================
Initial D: Special Stage on the Playstation 2 is based on Arcade Stage on
Version 2. Howver it adds a new story mode where you play as Takumi and race
against his opponents from the anime. With the voice actors reprising their
roles!
t also includes Original Arcade Stage Version 2 Mode, Car Introductions by
Iketani, Able to race your "ghost", and a big plus, the cars have been balanced
out. However, there is no Bunta Challenge.
GT Force steering wheel recommended for the game. Not sure if other Logitech
USB steering wheels will be compatable (like the Momo Racing Wheel, Momo Force,
etc.)
There will be a Initial D: Special Stage GT Force made for the game but it's
just a repackaged GT Force when Gran Turismo 3 was first released, but with the
Special Stage artwork on the box! No special shift stick add on or anything!
Pre-order bonuses includes a free map of all of the tracks and a free cellphone
strap.
The Original Soundtrack for Special Stage will be released on June 25th, 2003
and you'll get 33 songs on 3 discs for 3800 yen. The track listings are below.

==12. Frequently Asked Questions==
==================================
Q: I can't finish the Myogi track! What's wrong?
A: Your probably braking at every turn. You DO NOT do that in the game. Only
on the really sharp turns I think. Plus you don't know when to turn and you
don't countersteer probably. Read the Myogi section for hints.
Q: What are the fastest cars in the game?
A: Easily the Mazda RX-7 Type-R FD3S followed VERY CLOSELY by Toyota Truneo
GT-APEX. Even though I heard the Truneo is only good with Takumi's Part
Course. Those two cars are the easiest to drift. Infact, they are so strong,
that in Initial D: Arcade Stage Version 2, Sega has to balance those two cars
out so the other cars would have a chance of beating the course record! But
like I said above. The Integra Type R DC2 is the fastest on Happogahara and
Irouhazaka so trying to balance the cars only made it worse.
Q: Any bugs in the game?
A: One bug I know of is the "defeated opponents bug." When you continue from a
card, and continue in story mode, the people you defeated shows that you
defeated them while selecting a course. HOWEVER when you choose a course,
those characters show up as if you have never raced against them. This has
been fixed in Version 2.
A: There is also the "Misfiring system" bug in Version 2. Once you get the
misfiring system but decide to change your muffler, you'll lose it until you
change the parts course in card renewal. But I had reports saying you only
lose it if you go back to the stock Mitsubishi muffler.
A: Japanese version of Arcade Stage Version 3 (Version 1.0) had a horrible bug.
If you raced Miki on Akina Snow 3 times in a row, you crash the machine, and
you end up losing all of your card data. However I'm not sure on the
following: If another machine was linked and he was playing at the same time,
his machine would also crash and he would lose his data too.
Q: What the hell possessed you to write a Guide/FAQ for this game?
A: I played the game and I figured out I might as well write a Guide/FAQ
because no one has yet. Also to make people aware of what TokyoPop has done to
the great Initial D series.
