This is Python 1.4, built for AIX 4.*. It includes readline support,
threads, dynamic loading of modules, and consists of:
       - Python 1.4
       - gdbm 1.7.3
       - tcl7.4
       - tk4.0

This version of Python contains the following modules:

_tkinter _xdr array audioop binascii cmath crypt curses dbm errno
fcntl gdbm grp imageop math md5 new nis operator parser posix pwd
regex rgbimg rotor select signal socket soundex strop struct syslog
termios time timing thread

The tar file contains:

Python-1.4/bin/python1.4
Python-1.4/lib/python1.4/        [lots of stuff]
Python-1.4/include/python1.4/    [include files]
Python-1.4/man/man1/python.1     [man page]

The optimal place to install this is under /usr/local.

The AIX specific files for building shared extension modules (python.exp,
makexp_aix, ld_so_aix) are located in the Python-1.4/lib/python1.4/config
directory.

It was built with IBM's cc_r on a Bull Estrella PowerPC running AIX 4.1.3
